Agreed, I don't have a view on the hyphen. Hoping he's the best one since Rhys-Jones

For a premiership year, that has got to be a good haul covering needs, bit of X factor and a father and son.

Agree with Owl.
Good haul, covering needs with a bit of X factor and F/S.
Actually I'd call it excellent regardless of the premiership year limitation.

X factor small forward with the first.
First ruck picked.
Solid Key Position swingman.
Highly rated father-son.
Another Key Position swingman who can ruck.

Yeah, excellent

Very happy. Addressed needs. Higgins and Balta very exciting.

Seems to be a bit of opinion that Higgins is a genuine mid too. Got plenty of small forwards all of a sudden whereas a few years ago we had SFA.

So glad we got a KPP, ruck, KPP/ruck hybrid.

The verdict: We rate your club's draft haul

AFL.com.au
25 November 2017

RICHMOND

Selections before academy and father/son bidding: 17, 20, 25, 53, 55
Selections after bidding: 17, 20, 25, 34, 63
Who they picked: Jack Higgins, Callum Coleman-Jones, Noah Balta, Patrick Naish

Verdict:

Richmond already has a fleet of small forwards, but it was too hard to go past Jack Higgins at pick 17. The Oakleigh Chargers jet will likely overtake a couple of those options, such is his forward craft and goal smarts. He's a steal for the Tigers.

With three of their next four selections the Tigers addressed some needs by adding talls – ruckman Callum Coleman-Jones and key defenders Noah Balta and Ben Miller.

Balta was a hard one to read but his athleticism will appeal, while Miller impressed at the Combine.

The Tigers went into the night hoping a bid wouldn't come on father-son Patrick Naish until after their first three picks, and that's how it played out, after they matched St Kilda's bid at No.34.

That was a brilliant result for the premiers, and perhaps the final icing on their stunning 2017.

Really tall tall's are such a risk
In general a good draft but it could be a total bust in 3 years if the talls fail and naish is too skinny.

Agree, time will tell.

Miller will not be a bust for where we got him.

BUCKENARA SAYS:
This was a dream result for Richmond. The Tigers were able to use their first three picks on some really talented players before a bid came for father-son Patrick Naish, a player I rated at No.14 in my top 50. The club would be delighted he slipped through to No.34, they got him really cheaply. They also addressed two needs — for a developing ruckman/forward (Callum Coleman-Jones) and key defender (Noah Balta) to develop behind Alex Rance and David Astbury. I liken Balta to Rance because of his athleticism and ability to read the play, he’s the modern-day defender, so Richmond really was the perfect place for him to land and learn his craft from one of the best defenders in the game. Jack Higgins is a real professional, he’ll do everything right and be dedicated to being the best AFL player he can be. I think he can play some senior footy next year, while Naish could be given a taste.

THE VERDICT:
Richmond’s dream year continued through to the draft. A brilliant haul for the Tigers.

Uusually I bag Richmond drafts but it looks like we killed it this time. Got some players in who if developed properly could
help us stay successful for a long time.

Will confess haven't really paid much attention to this year's

But all reports are we've done very well indeed

Just glad we've addressed some of the obvious weak parts of our list

When Claw finishes fixing the West Coast and Melbourne lists, maybe we could get his view.

Higgins might have been too good not to take but I thought the best Big mobile forward would have been the plan for pick 17
Overall it was a very good draft for the RFC

4 picks inside the top 34 was a great result after winning a flag.

Hasn't really played in the ruck much so far , still raw but signs are there, showing more promise as a KPF at this stage but still early days.... if I had to make a call right now I'd say he will be a player whether rucking is a significant part of that however I couldn't say ....:shh

RICHMOND

What's gone right so far?

There's no real need for big trading when you win a flag and all the players play with such connection and teamwork. So I'm happy despite not gaining anyone. Really hoping for the big tuna for next trade period.
- Xavier Brodie, Ballarat Vic

Passing on Josh Schache and drafting Ben Miller and Callum Coleman-Jones, with the possibility of Tom Lynch coming next year, has been the smart move.
- Glenn Cartledge, Blackburn Vic

What's been the biggest disappointment?

We're the reigning premiers and 7-1. I broke a shoelace this morning.
- David Pethick, McKinnon Vic

The jury's out on ...

... Anthony Miles. He's too good for the VFL. Will he stay or go?
- Philip Sutherland, Benalla Vic

... small forwards. Next year we will have to get another tall at centre half-forward.
- Andrew Verrier, Dodges Ferry Tas

... whether we did enough.
- Greg Paul, Auckland New Zealand
