I am not convinced that Lynch is worth half that money to us. Sure he looks a very good player, but we have a lot pf players to pay.I reckon KB is talking up his price because its a catchy headline and that's his job.
I reckon KB is trying to talk his price up in the hope Collingwood gash themselves on his contract.

Yeah, but believing he is doing it to hurt Collingwood fulfils my more sinister desires.
Not for $1.5 million hahaIf it means we snag another flag, who cares about the money?
I can't see the AFL letting this happen.Yep. The AFL aren't pumping an extra $25m into the Suns to then let their best players walk out.
Too much invested in the GC team to let it fall away on key players leaving.
Not sure how they will do it, as I don't think Lynch is that interested in the money, but I reckon he stays.

ps. Quite ironic that we ended up winning the flag from where we were ("worse than Fitzroy") before the expansion clubs when we had to rebuild our list during the compromised drafts thanks to these expansion clubs receiving a stack of first round high end talent. We walked away with the cup on our way after flogging one in the Prelim, while the other is in turmoil on and off-field (we also poached Prestia from them).

If the main thing Tom Lynch wants is to return to Melbourne (or get out of the Gold Coast) and money is not an over riding factor then the AFL cannot force him to stay. It would only take a restraint of trade suit for them to back down.
Sometimes it is not all about money.
However if he does want to leave and the Suns state they will match then it becomes like the Dangerfield situation and we would need to come up with the mother of all trades, especially since we will have our first pick @ #18 ;D
Tom Browne on Ch 7 news last night said Lynch has put off contract talks until the middle of the year.

Correct MoL.
We cant afford to offer him more than a mil Id have reckoned - unless theres some clever wheeling and dealing done.
Fact is the Pies can offer him 1.5 and we can't. Unlesd hes happy to come to us for significant unders (which may happen :shh) then we miss out.

Hopefully it's the largest VFLW contract ever. Somewhere around $800k. Then we can get Tom in under the cap for about $500k.
So,,Or all of the above!
...Lynch or Sloane fa and play Martin forward more while hoping Balta/Chol/Moore come on?

Martin's contract may have been heavily front end loaded as the salary cap went up so we could manage all the increases for this to happen.
If we have done this then Martin could be on $800/900 a season for the last 5 years of the contract.

Im just assuming. Maybe we can make room, maybe we cant. If Dusty is front loaded so that its only 800-900 a year for the last few (which I highly doubt, I would expect its the opposite) it means hes on about 1.6 - 1.7 right now. I dont see it.
Tigers ideal landing spot for Lynch
By SEN
7 March 2018
Former Richmond coach Terry Wallace says if finances fit, the Tigers shape as an ideal landing spot for impending free agent Tom Lynch.
As the hottest property on the free agency market, the 25-year-old star forward’s signature looms as the storyline of the 2018 season.
“How Richmond goes with the big deal they had to do with Dustin Martin, and how that impacts is something I don’t know, but if they are in the financial market then certainly they have to," Wallace told SEN Afternoons.
“The fact you know you might have 90,000 members that you will play in front of…there are so many things that have them (Richmond) stumped up the equal of anyone else.”
Wallace expects the Tigers' premiership defence to be in stark contrast to that of the Bulldogs last season, with another pointy end finish on the cards for the reigning premier.
Coach Damien Hardwick, himself the beneficiary of a newly inked three-year contract extension, took the unusual step of endorsing the recruitment of Lynch two weeks out from the season opener.
“The quality of those sorts of players don’t come out (of contract) often, so you’ve got to have a look at it,” he said.
Other clubs likely to make a spirited run at the Suns' co-captain include St Kilda, North Melbourne, Collingwood and Hawthorn. St Kilda is desperate to land a big fish to endorse it as a destination club while North Melbourne has the salary cap space to outbid any of its Victorian rivals.
Since being drafted with the 11th overall pick at the 2010 draft Lynch has kicked 234 goals from 121 matches. He does not turn 26 until October 30.
Players drafted in front of Lynch eight years ago included Jared Polec (pick five) and Reece Conca (pick six).

-Richmond & Hawthorn the two main clubs in the running, Collingwood unlikely. :shh :shh
THE AFL’s northern rivers of gold have evaporated, with only a modest AFL ambassadorship available to Tom Lynch if he stays at Gold Coast.
Lynch’s pay packet already hovers around $1 million at the Gold Coast, with the AFL adamant it would only consider a deal after he re-signed.
But the extent of the league’s crackdown on ambassadorships has emerged, with Lynch able to access as little as $50,000 from the league.
Inaugural Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett was paid around that figure as an AFLQ ambassador during his time up north.
He also had a lucrative deal with Gatorade, also an AFL sponsor, but it was not dependent on him playing with Gold Coast.
Brisbane’s Dayne Zorko receives around $25,000 as an AFL multicultural ambassador, while Eric Hipwood accepts around $15,000 as an Auskick ambassador.
The Suns confirmed they have no multicultural or Auskick ambassadors paid for by the league.
The league knocked on the head a Brisbane request for Luke Hodge to be an AFL ambassador in Queensland earlier this year.
It is a significant change for the AFL, which spent millions paying code-hoppers Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau when they moved to expansion markets.
The Herald Sun understands former AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou spoke with the Giants mid-year to discuss ambassadorships when Lance Franklin was slated to move to GWS.
Restricted free agent Lynch has made it clear that he will wait until mid-season as he assesses Gold Coast’s progress.
But unlike Dustin Martin, his decision will not be based on accessing bigger deals from Victorian clubs.
Gold Coast has the salary cap to offer him a lucrative deal of up to seven years, having already paid him a huge wage this season.
Hawthorn and Richmond both believe they are contenders for his services, with Collingwood also interested in the star forward.
Whether he would move to Collingwood and accept the pressures of becoming their forward-line messiah remains to be seen.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said at a Fox Footy launch recently that Scott Pendlebury receives the most funding as an AFL ambassador in the league.
But it is understood Pendlebury has in recent years had deals with AFL sponsors Telstra and Gatorade, so is paid by them rather than the league.
McLachlan has made clear the AFL won’t save Lynch from moving south if money is the deciding factor.
“No, let’s be really clear, he has to make a decision based on the merits,’’ McLachlan said.
“He makes a decision, if and when any player has signed, then people will go and look at it, there was some confusion around that. The highest-paid ambassadors - or the players who are getting the most ambassador money - three of the top four, I think, were with Melbourne clubs.
“That will have no bearing on whether Tom Lynch re-signs or not.’’
Assuming he does want to come to us, Gold Coast would still match any offer. So how would we get a trade done? Doubt they would accept this years and next years pick 18... :lol :lol :lolReece Conca - an excellent midfielder / halfback with sublime skills.

There is no use matching and forcing a player to stay that wants to leave. If they finish bottom 4 then they would get a compo pick immediately after their pick so they would have two top 5 picks. They could then get a tall and a midfielder and build around them.

Don't think its as simple as that. Adelaide matched Geelongs offer to force them to come up with a better deal. They could easily get more than a single pick inside the top 5 from quite a few teams id suspect.

Probably wont be. Richmond could also offer to trade a player like Miles or B Ellis for a nothing pick as a separate deal
Don't fret, one of the WA clubs should give us something decent for Sampi Bolton.... :shhI doubt we'd see a pick before the 40s if the status quo remains.

Sounds to me like someone is very scared of lynch comming to the tiges and doing what ever they can to circumvent that happening by driving discord between the two clubs, don't you just love the Journos. You give them too much credit. You really think one of those flogs with a loud opinion has any influence over what trades get done? Lol.

Yes I do, because they can. It just depends on how much of a wedge they can drive between the two clubs, its very easy to get two parties to fight against each other that sets up a barrier to getting anything done, all you have to do is lie to one party about the other and vice versa and co-operation stops dead, its the easiest trick in the world, try it some time.
In all seriousness, how the bloody hell do we afford him. We can't possibly?!
See what spending the cap on a few players did to St.Kilda?

Mis-read your post.
Thought he was asking for Broad......
maybe wanting to see his premiership medal?
Maybe we should look at going after Jesse Hogan?
Going nowhere with the Dees at the moment, and looked pretty frustrated at times last night.
How a team with a full forward like that up front can only kick 8 goals in the 6 qtrs. of footy to half time last night (6 against the Hawks the week before) raises some major questions on there coaching and forward set-up.
Heard the other day that Gold Coast will be looking for more "experienced campaigners" next year....

Tom Browne on MMM this morning had us in front to land him at the moment. He also said that our salary cap is a bit tight and we'll probably have to move on a few guys.Grigg can go back to his old club and teach them how to win without cheating.
Assuming Hampson is one. Another reason why Grigg's contract talks aren't going?

* Opposition clubs concerned how Richmond can afford this within their salary cap. Believe Richmond will need to offload 4-5 players to do it.

Pretty easy to move 4-5 players when you have to de-list a minimum of 3
Can easily think of 4 to move on
Is the veteran's list still a thing for offsetting some payments out of the cap?No.

We're definitely going to bring at least one, probably two and maybe even three very good player(s) across this off-season - whether Lynch is among them doesn't really matter- there's more than one iron in the fire and people are going to be far from disappointed either way*.... ...:shh

Also watched rance’s interview on the couch and found his comments to be pretty intriguing, worrying more about what it would do for the structure of the team than any monetary ramifications. Would think that if we were after lynch then our recruiting team wouldn’t be too happy with ranceys comments.

No problems with what Rance said.
Adding an AA 199cm key forward to our team would change the structure.
We won a premiership with the current structure so of course it would be "interesting".
He does back our current culture even if he were Jack the Ripper or Jordan De Goey.
Trusts the club to arrange the money although his reference to the big members base displays a lack of understanding of TPP.
[Oh personally no issues at all with what he said. But just wondering what our recruiters would be thinking if we are trying to lure this guy over and your vice captain/one of the most prominent players in the game says that.
Tigers vice-captain Alex Rance told AFL Tonight recently he did not want to inflame the situation or put more pressure on Lynch.
But he made it clear if he wanted to talk to the Tigers players he would be more than willing to make a pitch.
“Obviously if he wanted to come he would come and have a chat with us. You want a pulse check of the culture,’’ he said.
“Coaches and recruiters are probably going to paint a pretty good picture of what the club is. If I was to go to another club I would really want to feel the nitty gritty of what’s wrong with the club because everyone is going to say what’s right with the club. But I would think at some stage if Tom wanted to come he might want to sit down with the leadership group.

Who knows how many front loaded and back ended contracts we have??
In Balme we trust.
Is Lynch that good that we would pay him more than Dusty? It's more a matter of structure.
We are a side in a premiership window that is enough to entice a player for unders.
If he wants overs, a big PASS
... and while so 4me people at Richmond were annoyed that oneeye was so open with the Lynch conundrum, Hardwick's new outlook would have given it the OK.Can anyone here confirm if thats true?

OUT-OF-CONTRACT Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch will return to Melbourne for the Suns' mid-season break as his future remains in limbo.
Nursing an injured knee, Lynch will head back to his native Victoria in the coming days to spend time with family and friends.
The 25-year-old didn't travel to China with the rest of his teammates last week, continuing rehabilitation on his knee that worsened in the round six loss to Adelaide.
Lynch is not expected to meet with any potential suitors, instead heading bayside to celebrate his sister Bethany's 21st birthday around her commitments with Richmond's VFLW team, Neil Balme has been requested to MC the special day at the request of the Lynch family.
It is also expected 2 of Lynch's former team mates Dion Prestia & Josh Caddy will also be in attendance as well as Bethany's new boyfriend Richmond first year player Noah Balta.
The most sought-after free agent in this year's pool, Lynch will be hoping for a return against Geelong in the club's first match at Metricon Stadium this season in round 11.
Lynch's visit will be his last trip to Melbourne before the Suns play against North Melbourne in round 16.
It is understood Collingwood, Hawthorn and Richmond have enquired about Lynch's services beyond this season.
His partner has moved north this year against her will to be by his side with the Suns but only until the end of the year was her terms hopeful they can be brain washed to convince them to stay under new coach Stuart Dew who also really doesnt want to be here but we are paying him $3,000,000 a year
Suns chairman Tony Cochrane said earlier this month that there was no timeline pressure on Lynch's decision, But i have been sleeping outside his door and driving him to and from the club to insure he does not jump on a plane and head to Richmond.
"When you're dealing with someone who is as important to the club as Tom is, and we've got a lot of them, you don't hand out deadlines," But i would kiss his ass and tuck him into bed every night if required Cochrane told Macquarie Sports Radio.
"I don't think that's the way to win friends and influence people But i will do what ever it takes
"What we're trying to do is set up the right atmosphere and the right conditions by which Tom feels really compelled.
"We're putting such a compelling case forward that (hopefully) Tom feels absolutely compelled and feels sorry for us enough to stay.
"There's no deadlines involved here, we'll do whatever we have to do to retain Tom and fight very hard to retain him."

Sounds done. Welcome Lynch :shh
I wasn't 100% convinced previously, but watching us hammer the Eagles in the second quarter but constantly bombing it inside 50m without a target changed my mind.

Are we paying Lids contract this season to ?.No.
Are we paying Lids contract this season to ?.georgies, we did reportedly agree to "pay a substantial portion" of Lids' GWS contract.
Can anyone in the know clarify? Are we paying Lids contract this season to ?.georgies, we did reportedly agree to "pay a substantial portion" of Lids' GWS contract.
RICHMOND will pay a portion of Brett Deledio’s new contract at Greater Western Sydney, in what was a key element that secured the deal between the clubs.
Deledio has agreed to a new contract with GWS, in which he will be paid about $1.5 million over three seasons.
But the Tigers, who were due to pay Deledio more than $700,000 in 2017, will pay a substantial portion of the star’s new contract, which makes him a relatively cheap purchase for the Giants, purely in dollar terms.

I'm guessing we paid around 300k for the first year of his new GWS contract.

We paid a lot more than that; all reports were we paid nearly all of it and that would be pretty close to the mark

Yes we did and I've always been off the belief we became a better team when he left.
I understand others disagree, but him wanting out has been big win for us
I thought we’d already signed up broad?taztiger posted on here that Broad has re-signed for 2 years but I don't think it's been publicly announced in the media.

Ole Ricky Nixon reckons we're no chance to land Lynch.
Caught Ed and co. Schmoozing Lynch in Sorrento he reckons.

Spud telling the football world one of the 2 Lynchs and Gaff pies bound. All 3 will be staying put then. :lol
GC can’t be helping his decision getting smashed by 85 at homeHopefully he got home in time to watch us last night, and see that if Moore types clunk em in our forward set up, a genuine A grader would have a field day. A flags there for you Tom, just sign on the dotted line!

What happened to "Two Metre Peter"....injured or fallen out of favour? Looked like a superstar in the making last year.... :shh
We do need one. I would be tempted to play Balta for a large block of games as a forward/ruck. Can take a good mark and give us something in the ruck around the ground when Nank is resting. Ruck and Grigg is yesterday's tactic.

Agree, wamt to see Balta. Give me Balts over Moore every day

Moore would be a decent 3rd tall, unfortunately we usually play without a second tallGood point

Jack is 30 and Rance might be gone by the end of 2019.
Grigg, Hammer, Griffiths, Miles to name just 4 will be gone so there will be cash freed up.
I just did a little analysis of all the centre bounces on Friday night - who attended, what happened, I present it without comment:
1st Q:
Nank, Cotch, Miles, Edwards. Miles’ opponent Wingard pushes off him and wins clearance with Miles three metres behind him.
Nank, Cotch, Miles, Edwards. Cotch wins clearance (kick off the ground).
Grigg, Cotch, Caddy, Conca. Woeful bounce gifts Ryder clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Miles, Caddy. Cotch pushes off R.Gray, wins scrappy clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Miles, Edwards. Miles dives on ball, secondary ball-up (should have been holding the ball according to the rules). Grigg wins subsequent clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Miles, Edwards. Scrappy, ball in dispute until Port sweeper off the back of the square wins it.
2nd Q:
Nank, Cotch, Conca, Edwards. Cotch wins clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Conca, Edwards. Edwards’ man Wingard wins clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Conca, Caddy. Nank lays it down beautifully for Ryder, who wins clearance.
Nank, Caddy, Conca, Miles. Miles’ man Powell-Pepper starts level with him, pushes off and beats him to the ball by a clear metre. Conca confronts him but P-P handballs to Conca’s man Wines, who handballs to Caddy’s man Wingard (still next to centre circle), who boots it forward. Caddy had left Wingard to follow the initial tap and as such he was well clear.
Grigg, Cotch, Conca, Miles. Conca’s man Wines pushes off him and bursts 3m clear to win clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Conca, Miles. Miles’ man P-P gets the ball but is immediately tackled by Miles and Conca. Secondary ball-up. Tertiary ball-up. Byrnes-Jones wins scrappy clearance.
Nank, Caddy, Conca, Miles. Conca’s man P-P drops ball in Conca tackle, falls to Miles’ man Rockliff. Miles has gone ball-hunting and left him free. Rockliff handballs straight to Sheds but dumpire has called rubbish holding free against Conca. P-P wins gifted clearance.
Nank, Caddy, Edwards, Miles. Edwards’ man Rockliff gets short handball to Caddy’s man Wingard (Caddy left him again). Miles applies ineffective tackle, allowing Wingard to handball to Miles’ man Wines for clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Edwards, Miles. Miles dives on ball, handball to Cotch for clearance.
Nank, Cotch, Edwards, Conca. Edwards gets a bad bounce, his man Wines handballs to Cotch’s man Rockliff for clearance.
3rd Q:
Nank, Cotch, Grigg, Miles. P-P dives on the ball and throws it to Miles’ man Wines, who wins clearance.
Moore, Grigg, Caddy, Miles. Miles attacks nullified tap, as do Wingard, P-P and Miles’ man R.Gray, who taps it to advantage, bursts clear and boots long for clearance. Grigg and Caddy each two metres from contest, zero impact.
Caddy, Grigg, Cotch, Edwards. Caddy follows up his ruck work, handballs to Edwards who fumbles, ball bobbles around, Grigg handballs to Cotch for clearance.
Nank, Edwards, Grigg, Miles. Edwards anticipates the wrong way, Ryder knocks it down to his man Wingard who wins clearance.
4th Q:
Nank, Cotch, Grigg, Higgins. Grigg works Wines under ball, Ryder roves neutral ruck contest, handballs to Cotch’s man P-P who is metres clear, handpass to Higlet’s man R.Gray, back to Ryder, back to Gray, back to P-P who is tackled by Cotch but given six minutes to get his handball wide, Grimes off the ground, out of bounds.
Nank, Cotch, Caddy, Miles. Miles’ man Gray pushes off him and is a metre clear when Ryder lays one in his lap. He handballs to Caddy’s man Wingard who Caddy has again ignored while not impacting the contest. Wingard handpass to Rockliff off the back of the square, he chips it straight to Sheds.
Cotch attended 17 centre bounces, won 5 clearances. His man got 2.
Miles attended 15 centre bounces, won 0 clearances (1 clearance assist). His man got 4, plus an additional 3 first possessions.
Edwards attended 11 centre bounces, won 0 clearances. His man got 2.
Conca attended 9 centre bounces, won 0 clearances. His man got 2, plus 1 first possession.
Grigg attended 6 centre bounces (2 as ruckman), won 0 clearances (1 clearance assist). His man got 1, when he was in the ruck.
Caddy attended 9 centre bounces (1 as ruckman), won 0 clearances, got 1 first possession. His man got 1 clearance, 1 first possession and 2 chain possessions.
Nank attended 19 centre bounces, won 0 clearances. His man got 1 clearance, 1 clearance assist, 1 first possession, 1 chain possession.
Moore and Higgins attended 1 centre bounce each and didn’t bother the statistician. Higgo's bloke got 2 chain possessions.

Anyone still wanna pay seven figures? :shh
Have a sneaking suspicion we're trying force Collingwood to decide between re-signing De Goey and signing Lynch and we'll pounce on whoever they don't choose (hope it's De Goey)... :shh :shh

I don't think that Lynch should get more than the lowest paid player out for Cotch, Rance and Martin, let alone Dusty.
Yeah not worth it....either go for McGovern instead or better yet a quality mid and a cheaper KPP (just not Brad Miller/Aaron Edwards "cheap"...) :shhYes. Haha. Please no more Brad Miller Kent Kingsley types. :lol

I reckon we are a young bull midfielder too short and we have to endure the likes of Reece “Clanger” Conca constantly butcher the ball or make terrible decisions with the ball which more times than not make life more difficult for his teammates.
I’d throw the kitchen sink at Ollie Wines. Hasn’t signed for some reason and I reckon those wankers at port owe us for all the crap they’ve given us over the years. Stealing Ollie would be sweet payback for Chaplin.
Lest we forget EEA. :lol
Our team with our new player looks even better than ever without Lynch up forward.
Backs: Short. Rance. Grimes.
H/Backs: Houli. Astbury. Vlaustin.
Centres: Lambert. Cotchin. Edwards.
H/Fwrds: Cotchin. Caddy. Rioli.

Adelaide would literally let him walk into the preseason into the preseason draft than trade with us, in the current situation.
If we win the flag this year, doubt we’ll get Lynch.

Prestia all over again..... :shh
Thanks Sherlock Niall for stating the bleeding obvious ::)
With Conca “dominating all the key stats”, and if I am wrong, as some on here suggest and keep telling me, I would then expect a list of clubs fighting for his signature at seasons end.
A bit quiet on that front at the moment and I’m not hearing from anyone (except here) how important retaining him is to our future success. :shh
De Goey signs with Collingwood. 2 years, no idea how much.

Would have loved the kid at Tigerland.
On SEN yesterday arvo, they had us favoured to get Lynch ahead of Collingwood with Hawthorn third. Then some caller rings up claiming an AFL doctor has told everyone that Lynch is going to Hawthorn because he knows the medical staff from his junior footy days and due to their success with treating problematic knees of Burgoyne & O'Meara.
The media are having a bet each way. They don't know.

The Herald-Sun is claiming Cyril Rioli's retirement will allow the Hawks salary cap space to outbid other clubs.Decisions like this I feel have been made months ago as a general rule. Managers may try to get a bit more out of the deal but the player has usually let the club know what he intends doing.

Choosing a team because of their doctors :lol
I'd say our fitness staff are pretty damn capable too.
Yep, only Hawthorn have doctors. I heard some clubs have just discovered fire while we're finally getting telephones installed.I hear Dylan Grimes had to fly all the way to Germany just to get proper treatment.
Watching Vic Metro v SA game, I'd be holding on to our first round pick this year whatever happens.....some serious talent all over the park.....all those "super draft" predictions look like they're actually not just hype for once.... :shh

Mitch Cleary on SEN just now said Tom Lynch wants to get back to his family in Victoria and play in a premiership before his footy career is finish. Reckons Richmond will be able to get him for $500-600k less than what Gold Coast is offering. It says it all about where the Gold Coast are as a club that another club can prise a top player away from them for significantly less than what they can pay. In almost every other case, you have to pay overs not unders to get a top line player to move.
Ch 7 just showed footage of Tom Lynch at the airport and standing next to him was Balmey ;).Bloke commented on the RFC fan FB page saying he was on the same flight, that they bumped into each other as the Tigers were arriving at the airport at the same time and it was only a few sent news exchanges.
Lynch is in Melbourne to decide his future. They'll be showing his interview with Ch 7 later in their sports report (6.45pm).
Edit: beat me to it, roger :thumbsup.

Take Bellis for pick 2?
to be honest if we go b2b does anyone really care if we dont get him?Agreed, I’d much rather see us win it this year than get Lynch. Would be a hollow consolation prize if we lost the GF but got him.
I suppose we would be odds on for a 3peat.
Lol, that bloke. Will absolutely, 100% not be announced he is coming to us next week! :snidegrin
Q. Have you heard anything about it’s already a done deal?
Announcement as early as next week.
Isn’t it against the rules to announce anything outside of trade period, let alone when it’s about a contracted player while the season is still going? Lol
Lynch staying? 'It's not looking great', says Dew
Michael Whiting

GOLD Coast is all but resigned to losing co-captain Tom Lynch in free agency with coach Stuart Dew conceding on Wednesday "it's not looking great".
Lynch is in Melbourne after having surgery on his injured knee and is expected back in Queensland next week.
"I think history suggests that if you don't know at round 18, and he's our captain, it's not looking great, but that's the reality of AFL footy," Dew said.
"We're certainly planning for both (scenarios)."
Lynch has been linked with Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorn for most of his contract year.
The 25-year-old key forward has been tight-lipped about his future, while the Suns' have consistently stated they've been happy with the negotiations.
With Lynch sidelined for the rest of the season and successful surgery behind him, it is thought the Suns want an answer sooner rather than later.
"With Tom out for the year, we have parked it," Dew said.
"We're trying to snap a losing streak and Tom at the moment can't help us with that."
Lynch has played 131 games for the Suns, including 10 this season before a recurrence of a PCL problem shortened his campaign.

Throw in Dusty and who wouldn’t want to be a part of this??
Opportunity of a life time joining the biggest and best club in the land.
Tom Lynch ...This is the latest news on Lynch, torch:
Are we going to get him?
Tom Browne elaborated more on the meeting post GeelvsMelb game.
According to his "best trade source", our leaders and officials have already met with Lynch over the past week.
In fairness to Lynch, those close to him are playing down the meeting.
According to Browne, in his view, more face-to-face meetings with Lynch to come for the clubs in the running (Richmond, Collingwood & Hawthorn).
".@TomBrowne7 reports Tom Lynch had dinner with Richmond officials and players during the week."

Got some inside word Lynch wants to come to Richmond and will accept around 900k. :thumbsu:
Certainly not its from a player... but thats all i can say
A Richmond player? Yeop
A richmond player that i know well..after what i got told Lynch is a lock to be at with us next year so just sit back and wait now...

Getting 3 offers tabled this week & getting a feel for each club
Hawks will offer more coin
Richmond more immediate success
and Collingwood well they’ll offer Collingwood
[Lynch is being wined and dined by the Tigers] Coll & Hawks already done that.
My mail is a huge way bigger than the current 3 will come fwd this week.
[I've heard Hawks have put a massive offer on table. More money than Coll/.Rich. I don't think money will be ultimate factor in where he goes though.] Yep that’s was confirmed by me 10mins a go plus Jaeger O’Meara working hard on him.
[Is there a smoky] Yep a blue one. Would be a fair combo C Curnow & Lynch.
[Lynch is leaving a basket case. He isn't going to another.] No doubt that will play a big part.

Ricky back on the glass barbie.
If we were to get Lynch, that would be the piece of the puzzle we are missing.
How many times over the last couple of seasons have we kicked it forward just hoping we are able to create a contest and bring the ball to ground for our small forwards?
Having Jack do what he does basically from CHF these days, how good would it be to have someone of the class of Lynch to kick it high to and know if he doesn’t take the grab our small’s were ready and waiting to crumb or apply our pressure.
We have a massive opportunity to get a star KPF for basically a free hit and we are in a position to make it worth doing whatever it might cost us.
Obviously some really tough decisions would have to be made to afford him but I’m hoping the RFC makes them.
How many of us would be really upset if we lost Grigg and Houli for instance if it meant another premiership?

I would only be down with 900K if Martin, Cotchin, Rance and riewoldt exceed that sort of coin.
You are over rating Houli Dooks, Short has already made him easily replacable so if he is happy to stay then a haircut to his pay to help bring in Lynch. If we were to get Lynch, that would be the piece of the puzzle we are missing.

if the offer of 900k (or even a mill) is correct i reckon Hampson and Grigg retiring would cover it.
then theres Griffiths who has retired in January.
Need to get Shorty signed up next and probably Houli.
with crumbs (Townsend, Lloyd, Bolton Soldo Conca).
rest trade bait/delist - Miles, Menadue, C Ellis, Drummond, Markov)

Tom Browne on Talking Footy just said that after Richmond met with Lynch last week, we're going to meet with him again this week.
They're going to ask Dimma about it.
I really don’t care what they pay him especially if it comes from Hampson, Griffiths,Houli and Grigg’sDeledio salary. Just to name a few obvious ones.
if we don't get lynch I'd be happy to pick up an out of favour harry taylor for a year, re-sign everyone and hand out a one off bonus for sticking around for the 2018 and 2019 flags... then go sign a big fish or two when the old boys roll off the list for 2020. :lolI'd rather win a few more flags rather than bring in your Lynch's and Bontempelli's. Catch 22 I know, but we're in as good a position to win as I've ever known with the group we have.

Anyone who doesn't rate Bontempelli shouldn't be permitted to discuss football in the public domain... :shh
If Tom lynch were available for us on the weekend he’d be replacing Callum Moore in the lineup.....is there really a genuine argument against signing the guy for possibly nothing?
All the big boys are signed on and I’m sure list management isn’t leaving the bank empty to reward the rest of the team when contract renewals come along.
We are in a situation where some of the best players in the league play for us and sacrifice money to do so while the best players from other teams take unders to come across....let’s appreciate this.

Getting Lynch is not the be and end all. If i was given the choice of Lynch or a 2nd premiership the 2nd premiership would win hands down, lets just concentrate on that, if he wants in, he knows where to find us.They are mutually exclusive.

Does anyone think that Lynch has told the Tigers he is, or is not coming already, hence the signing of Rance, Broady and imminently Jack (by all reports). The contracts can now be put to bed because we know now where we are at with Lynch. If this is right I expect a few more to be completed soon too.
Also when comparing the interviews of Hardwick v Buckley this week Hardwick was very relaxed indeed and Buckley was the opposite. Am I reading too much into this?

Good to see Dimma sticking up for his player today.:snidegrin
Actually agree with Robbo to a certain extent
Why ?
Turn back the clock 2-3 years and longer and no free agent wanted to come to Richmond
Hawthorn , Geeling and Collingwood were the destination clubs
This will be the first agent we get by memory ( Lynch )
Reckon the system is wrong , and happy to take Lynch , but it is a bad look when a club captain is shopping himself around
Common knowledge he met with Collingwood last November when he was holidaying in Melbourne
Don’t think that’s fair on the Gold Coast
And where is Toms manager ???

It's only an issue now that Richmond is somewhere good players want to go? We spent years as nuclear wasteland and now we finally are an attractive proposition and these pricks are sooking it up LOL stuff OFF!

Or the Kangaroos recruitment that led to their first flag in ‘75
stuff the war let them have him. Like I said let’s see if we go b2b then assess his worth then.
I never had much hope to begin with anyway so let’s focus on plan b. Keeping our list together for another year
Im sure we are, we've been very dilligent and intelligent with our footy operations since balmey came over, cant see why we'd do anything stupid now. If Pies offer him stupid money then so be it, move onAgree.
We’ve forced their hand though. I’ve heard their new offer is will in excess of a million, if we match he’ll be our highest payed player. I don’t think we’ll match their offer, but I think with how Collingwood are travelling you could argue the “success at Richmond” line might be diminished.
Damn, thought he was signed and sealed to us.
Interesting times ahead. I actually don't think we need him right at this minute and if we go back to back who really cares if we don't land him.
We have Balta, Garthwaite & CCJ waiting in the wings. All 3 could be anything and Balta in particular looks the good as a potential key forward.
I would say to him that our offer is final and if he ums and arrs then move on and pull out of the race. We want him desperate to play for us and if he wants to play for the pies he can go and join those flogs for the money.
Cheers,
That’s actually what has occurred
Take it or leave it
Stuff him! I agree with the above posts - look after the players we have (Shorty esp) & give our kids a shot at the KPF role. What I have seen of Balta is very impressive, CCJ too, Miller, Chol & Moore all deserve a shot before we chase Goldilocks .... :pray

Collingwood must be moving on a number of players as their cap was supposedly tighter than ours. Unless Eddie is giving his girlfiend a job at channel 9 too.
Good old Tiger71 on BigFooty 1000% certain nothing has changed re Tom and he is ours.....He was right last year with Dusty - but then I think that was like betting on Winx.

Are you sure you’re not confusing rumour, innuendo and scuttlebutt with feelings of worry?
I’m somewhat indifferent about the whole thing. I would love him at the Tigers; strikes me as a smart and rational move without “upsetting the apple cart” for the figures I’ve heard that have been floated.
If we miss out; no worries, we’ll be as strong a contender next year as previously.
If we overpay I’ll be upset.
GAF either way. Collingwood seem to be after whomever we are after every single stuffing year, it is sickening and seems to be some sort of perverse, desperate spoiled brat syndrome where they can't stand the thought of us getting anything. How many times have they pulled this shyte?PM Eddy
Damo: Tigers Nervous About Lynch-Collingwood Meeting
MMM
1 Aug 2018 5:30pm
Triple M Footy’s Damian Barrett says Richmond are nervous about the fact that Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch has met with Collingwood twice in the space of a fortnight.
Lynch, who is widely expected to return to Victoria next year as a free agent, is believed to be deciding between Richmond, Collingwood and Hawthorn as his next destination.
Damo told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Wednesday that this time last year, the Tigers had Lynch “on the hook”, but now they’re not so sure.
“Richmond this time last year got Tom Lynch on the hook to the point where they thought they were going to be very comfortable when this decision had to be made about now,” Damo said during The Midweek Rub.
“The problem for Richmond, and when I say problem it’s not one they’re worrying about, was winning the premiership last year and potentially going back-to-back this year – it’s changed the landscape the way Lynch is thinking. It doesn’t mean he says ‘no’ to it (Richmond’s offer) but it’s certainly changed why he was going to go there.
“Does he want to go to a club as established as being successful? This is all part of his thinking. Collingwood is seizing on that aspect of it ... you don’t go back (to meet with Collingwood) a second time inside 10 or 12 days as it was on Monday without reason.
“Richmond has got a little bit nervous about the fact Collingwood now has gone in for a second time and they don’t know where they stand as Collingwood doesn’t right now.”
Damo also revealed that Nathan Buckley has met with Lynch as recently as within the past fortnight rather than “a while back” as the Magpies coach said on Footy Classified last week.

I’ve heard that it’s between us and Collingwood, the GC will match and demand 2xfirst rounders this year and a first rounder next year or he goes to the December draft
Lynch to Tigers a 'done deal', says one list boss - http://m.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-02/lynch-to-tigers-a-done-deal-says-one-list-boss

LMAO, matching?
They've just stripped him of his captaincy. How can they match the offer? They've already shown him the door.
Oh yes, they'll force him to tbe PSD.....
And get nothing versus pick 3 in a superdraft......
If you match you say you want him to stay as Adelaide threatened with Dangerfield. That way you force the team that wants him to trade. However when you say you don't want him, the team that does want him as a FA, may not want to trade their first rounders for him. He then has to walk to the PSD and they get nothing.LMAO, matching?

Why wouldn’t they match and request that trade?
They’re still showing him the door... on their terms.
The December draft is a threat, like 3 x first rounders is somewhat an ambit

Put it this way, no team would be going for Lynch if he wasn't a FA. The whole point of FA is that the player can go to the team of their choice without having to trade. If you want to keep the player, you match the offer. Gold Coast has played this poorly.
What’s of real interest is that it’s been reported that Lynch was on $1m this year . So easy to match ,any offerI don’t think that’s the point, really. There’s every chance he comes to us or Collingwood or whoever for less than what GC were paying him.
I said Adelaide played it differently and traded for better compensation. If you match you say you want him to stay as Adelaide threatened with Dangerfield. So where’d Danger end up?
Yep, playing it poorly....

:rollinOf course they can match. However, it's about them getting the best deal and keeping Lynch happy. No player would want to go to a club that after 8 years of service would treat them badly. What’s of real interest is that it’s been reported that Lynch was on $1m this year . The Suns could match $1.5m+ i'd imagine.
what a load of hot spankRanking 10/10 on the Piffle meter

I didn’t understand why he seemed to like talking about his or other people’s dicks...
Tiger71 sounds like a blow hard, like he loves the sound of own voice.
Doesn’t sound very intelligent either.
Has anyone met him? What’s he like? Is he legit or is he full of poo?
sounded like furious salami slappin for mine but that's just speculation:shh
Trading for him kind of defeats why the clubs want him as a free agent. I can't see any of the clubs wanting to trade for him. Pick 3 is also better than pick 18 and they could get Miles and Lloyd for free.
Boomer Harvey on Future Stars had us needing to give up our first round pick + Miles, Lloyd & Bolton in exchange for Lynch.
Richmond - 1st round pick, Miles, Lloyd & Bolton.
Coll'wood - 1st round pick & Darcy Moore.
Hawthorn - 1st round pick, Burton & Schoenmakers.
Harvey added that the Hawks was the better deal for Gold Coast.
Could bringing in Tom Lynch backfire on Richmond?
The Age
13 August 2018 — 5:11pm
This season has been Jack Riewoldt's most consistent ever - which makes the talk about Tom Lynch's potential move to Richmond all the more interesting.
The wantaway Suns forward would be on more money than Riewoldt, who will be 30, and would essentially be playing Riewoldt's position.
This week on The Age Real Footy Podcast, Michael Gleeson, Jake Niall, Caroline Wilson and Bob Murphy discuss the potential negative implications of bringing Lynch to the Tigers in 2019.

Lynch was very angry with Buckley publicly saying they had met.
Had to answer to the Suns and lost the captaincy when it all got out.
Tony Sheahan @TonySheahan
It’s understood Lynch met with Prestia & Caddy recently re his decision too
Tigers were-are Lynch’s first choice but Collingwood’s financial offer was significantly higher than that of Richmond’s
I was told he met with Prestia & Caddy a few eeeks who and still had little ideas as to where he will play in ‘19
https://twitter.com/TonySheahan
If you were listening to Eddie on MMM this morning you'd have to think that Lynch is Tiger bound.
They were talking about Cotchin extending his contract out until 2022, when he is already contracted until the end of 2020. The discussion then between Edddie and Tom Browne moved on as to why the extension would be done now and this was led by Eddie.
It went something like this:
Eddie: Why do you think that the extension was done now?
Tom: I'm not sure Ed.
Eddie: Could it be that they are freeing up cap space and back ending his deal?
Tom: Could be Ed. That would free up some room to land a free agent.
Eddie: Like the biggest free agent available this year?
The conversation on this issue was all led by Eddie and i can't see why he would be angling the talk down this path if he didn't think that Richmond have secured Lynch.

How many drinks would one have to have to even consider breaking this streak.?
Oh .
Guess the answer is 4.
Back to topic. After last night I'm not really sure spending a million plus a year on Lynch is such a great idea. I understand he is a good player with some leadership skills but to play him beside Jack who do you drop?
One of the small forwards? That would change the entire stucture of a flag wiining team
Caddy maybe? I don't think so after the last 2 years.
I know Jack is not getting any younger but I'm not sure this is the way to go. Would prefer us to develop one of our own
I really don't know if it's the best move for us. What do you guys think?

I go to just about every Richmond game at the MCG and to not have watched a loss live in about 18 months is something pretty special. Throw in another A grade forward which we desperately need IMO and it might be another 18 months of wins.
In this game you can not stand still- you need to be constantly improving.
By all reports he is an A grade fella as well which goes a long way in the environment this club has worked hard at creating.
I think he is perfect for what this club needs.
Think about the 2nd quarter where we had approx 20 inside 50s and only scored 1 goal in the last minute. Throw in one of the best contested marks in the league to take some attention away from jack and imagine the results....Yep I can see all that you guys say but I have some questions.
I should have had Setterfield on the bench & Cerra starting....and yes I believe adding those two would change that....Lambert is unlucky but that's the way it goes.....great depth though... :shh
Setterfield and Cerra?
When did we get them? :huh

Coming to us so she saysNothing new (i.e. he's coming to us but wouldn't yet "take it to the bank"). The only new info was Lynch and the Suns have made up so he leaves them amicably and he's accepted an invitation to their B&F and may even get up on stage to give a speech.
Well if "The Rover Contributor" says so... :shh
HOW SURE ON TOM LYNCH TO RICHMOND?
SAM EDMUND SAYS:
“(I’m) at least 90 per cent sure. I think you can be as sure as you can be without taking it all the way to the bank, if you like. I think he’s there, and I think every other club knows that to be the case. This isn’t a six-month operation, by any stretch, they’ve been into Tom Lynch for the best part of two years. Before it even made headlines, before it even made newspapers and TV stations around the place. They’ve been grooming him (to come to Richmond).
“We know all know that his sister now plays there, in the VFLW. We know that with all those big names — Cotchin, Martin, Rance, Riewoldt — they’ve all front-ended (their deals), they’ve all signed, they’ve all taken little haircuts. All the planning is in place, ready for the big T. Lynch to slot into the forward line.”

It is my understanding GC continue to confirm they intend to match a $1m a year contract. Tigs have been told this again yesterday as were we. We also know we can sufficiently front end a contract that will be beyond their range therefore eliminating that tactic . We are the only one of the three competing clubs who have that capability. TL management has also told alll three clubs they are not interested in dragging through a pre season draft scenario. They have also told all three clubs they will not accept existing players being cleared to make necessary room to front end.
The HFC can satisfy all these issues.
I understand he remains our main focus until he tells us otherwise. The good thing is we are well prepared for multiple outcomes despite what some of our so called supporters on this forum talk crap about.
This is an excellent point. I asked a similar question and we believe based on “intel we get around this stuff” we have advantage the Tigs have conceded we have and are genuinely concerned. They have no doubt attempted to improve their position, but they have got to keep a position that does not constrain them in a very tight TPP for the next three years. In other words over investing in one player. Remember Conors has other Tigs clients.

It’s a done deal; all parties have ticked off on in incl GC. There’s no spanner in the works.
The notion that they match anything up to a mill is laughable. So, what if we offer a million and 1 for Lynch?
Won’t affect their compo pick. Just :shh

Is there a link?
Anyone think they will match.
I wouldn't be surprised.
Their coach alluded to it.
Wow pick 3 is pretty good compo I would think. They will 99% getting pick 3 if they don’t match our offer (even though they’d offer more if he was happy to stay), which works well for us as we couldn’t offer anything close to pick 3 if we have to trade.
Bingo! And regarding the bit in bold, neither can Collingwood and Hawthorn if they were still in the race while Lynch doesn't want to go to another bottom club that could offer a better pick. The Suns will have to accept the pick 3 compo and let Lynch walk.Wow pick 3 is pretty good compo I would think. They will 99% getting pick 3 if they don’t match our offer (even though they’d offer more if he was happy to stay), which works well for us as we couldn’t offer anything close to pick 3 if we have to trade.

This makes Barrett & Maclure look stupid. Trying to manufacture newsFrom memory Maclure has always put Richmond in front regarding Lynch.
Since when has free agency had anything to do with equalisation? It’s a way for players who have served their current clubs for a long time to be able to move on freely should they choose to. Would absolutely suck to lose one of your best players this way and hopefully it never happens to us, but this concept is literally used in every other sport. The fact that the clubs are given compo picks is against what every other sport does which doesn’t reward a club for not being able to retain their talent.
Chaplin and now Lynch, yep we've absolutely killed it when it comes to Free Agency.
We were the laughing stock of the competition and football community for 35 years.
We were stupid to trade in Prestia for pick 6, should have spent it on quality talent and development as our current crop were over the hill.
We had a soft drawer that allowed to us finish top 4; but would go out in straight sets.
Spent too much to retain Dusty
Got lucky we played our finals on the G.
Were the worst team to win the GF in recent history, possibly ever.
Would be lucky to make the 8 this year.
And NOW are the team that’s ruining equalisation and FA in the competition.
And the media have the gall to accuse US of having our cake and eating it too....
Welcome to Tigerland Tom, hope you look back on it as the smartest decision you ever made.

Former Port Adelaide premiership player Kane Cornes argued on Sportsday SA that it wasn’t “fair” that Lynch could walk from the 17th placed Suns to possible back-to-back premiers Richmond. It's not as though Gold Coast gets nothing in return, Kane. The Suns do get a very good compensation pick 3 in return because they are a bottom club and their first round pick is early in the draft. The rules put their compo pick straight after this early first round pick. A top club in the exact same scenario wouldn't get their compo pick until pick 19 or thereabouts.
“How Tom Lynch can leave the Gold Coast Suns for a team like the Richmond Football Club in free agency just isn’t fair.” Cornes said.
Former St Kilda Grant Thomas tweeted that it was “a classic example of City Hall buffoonery” by allowing a star player to move to a strong club under free agency. The same Grant Thomas that said post-GF last year that we were worst premiership side in history :sleep.
“Here’s a classic example of City Hall buffoonery. Tom Lynch says he’s going to Tigers. Shock horror!” Thomas tweeted.
“Where else would a star player go who’s starved of the holy grail — premiership?! AFL are so damn stupid it’s insane. They produce a system to equalise but it imbalances. Classic!”
He didn't actually say that about us and is always very complimentary but whateverHe did. Then he said what an unbelievable job Hardwick did to win it.
Poorly worded tweet, he said possibly the weakest group to win a flag. I disagree with the statement but it wasn't meant to be a knock on the club. More backhanded praise in a way.It knocked and undervalued the individual quality in the team. Flag or no flag this year, we've proven last year wasn't a fluke nor simply based on a one-hit wonder gameplan and structure. Opposition sides have had 12 months to study and pull us apart yet we finished on top of the ladder and into another Prelim.
Lynch must be sitting back tonight happy about his choice of club to join next season :yep.Poorly worded tweet, he said possibly the weakest group to win a flag.
Also what does a St Kilda person like Thomas know about winning premierships? How to pinch a single flag in over a 100 years with a wobbly bouncing punt out of a pack of players that goes through for a point. Thomas is a failed coach who was given a dream list of first round picks and couldn't even get them to a Grand Final. Humility and praising opposition teams that achieved something he and his Saints couldn't is something he has never learnt.
Why don't you just give a bit of respect to the guys that actually run the site? They can do whatever they want and don't need posters like you what they should or shouldn't do.Lynch must be sitting back tonight happy about his choice of club to join next season :yep.do you ever not write an essay about rubbish unrelated to a SMALL issue?Poorly worded tweet, he said possibly the weakest group to win a flag.
You're wrong.
You’re entitled to a view, however contrary, it’s the main reason I like this forum.
Having said that, you seem easily led if you honestly believe Grant Thomas was attempting to provide even faint praise on our flag win. It was nothing more than a cheap shot on GF night to get attention.. His tweet the other night was exactly the same thing. When you look at the history of free agency, overall it’s had a “meh” impact on player turnover and the competition.
His twitter account is a slightly more sophisticated trolling account than Ricky Nixon’s which they both have because they are desperate for some attention now that they are irrelevant in an industry where they were once prominent
I agree with MT , Thomas does not carry a lot of weight when it comes to Football, especially a teams Talent.
A rabble?I agree with MT , Thomas does not carry a lot of weight when it comes to Football, especially a teams Talent.
Yeah, he only took a rabble to the prelim within a few seasons and left a list for his successor that enabled him opportunities to win a GF. What the stuff would he know about footy as a former AFL coach? :lol
Kane Cornes has found religion and now wants to slam the Free Agency system.
I can only think that this Lynch criticism is a smokescreen.
He is clearly more upset about the fact that Free Agency has delivered his beloved Power Steven Motlop and Tom Rockliff on big contracts in the same season :lol
I really hope we don't pay this guy overs but we will. He's good if fit but is he worth overs. He is not Wayne Carey that will take finals on single handed he will just play well and people will say about the same as Josh Caddy.

Eh, I happen to know Grant Thomas quite well as a previous employee of his. I can tell you he's got a lot of respect for what our club has done and it was not a case of trolling. His twitter is just a bloke who likes to talk footy, any trolling is aimed at those who actually deserve eg Gill McLachlan

Luke Ball

Robert Harvey
Stephen Milne
Fraser Gerhig
Etc
Yeah a rabble.....
You really are full of it.
Grant Thomas had the best list in the comp for about 3 years.
He’s no master coach.
You and Gil talk about GT? Shows that GT is getting to him :shh

They sacked their coach during the season and were amateurish in how their club was being run.
Milne, Riewoldt, Goddard, Ball etc were all kids and developed by GT. Some of them wanted to quit the club when he got sacked. It speaks to how highly they rated him. Ball got phased out after GT was gone, so I don't know why you're mentioning him. Is it because he played his best football under GT?
We were a rabble and we had good young players. You don't actually understand what a rabble is. St Kilda were a rabble when Grant took over. He changed their culture and they had had sustained finals success within years of him taking over. Ross Lyon inherited a good list and took them to 2 GF appearances.Grant Thomas had the best list in the comp for about 3 years.
He’s no master coach.
Doubtful. Port & Brisbane had the best lists in 2004. West Coast & Sydney clearly did in 05/06. Saints were up there though. 2006 they were stuffed by injuries. You and Gil talk about GT? Shows that GT is getting to him :shh

Mark Maclure on Tom Lynch:Why is it called Free Agency?
Our system is wrong, the AFL needs to do something about it. Free agency was for player movement not to help the reigning premier win more premierships

I personally don't like Free Agency. Why is it so wrong for a player to want to play in a successful side after, like some, have been playing for a crap club?
I was against it when it was introduced, and my opinion hasn't changed. I have always felt that FA is not for the betterment of anyone except a very few superstar players.
I assume the big name Free Agents are almost certainly going to join stronger clubs because for the greater majority, the decision does not seem to be about money. It is about chasing some success.
Most of the gun players at successful clubs seem prepared to take unders to stay where they are, particularly where the culture is strong. The gun players at poorer clubs are hardly likely to go to another struggling club, even for more money.
So what does that leave. The odd player like Polec who gets an offer way out of proportion to what the are probably worth, and it could be argued he is going to a club looking for some success as well.

I think we will give them Miles and maybe one other for basically nothing as a trade to further compensate them.
At least the weather is niceI think we will give them Miles and maybe one other for basically nothing as a trade to further compensate them.
I wonder who the lucky candidate will be..

That is absolutely my understanding, there’s an underhanded agreement to trade on Miles and possibly BEllis as well for some stake knives.I think we will give them Miles and maybe one other for basically nothing as a trade to further compensate them.

I reckon B Ellis is worth a bit more than steak knives is the only thing.
I don't see Brandon going (others will go before him) but the Suns are carrying a few future picks from last year's trade period on top of their own picks:I reckon B Ellis is worth a bit more than steak knives is the only thing.
So do I
I reckon B Ellis is worth a bit more than steak knives is the only thing.
Brandon Ellis is one of the worst players going around, can't understand any admiration for this fellow he is a useless liability. The team was sooo much better with out him against the Hawks.
Brandon Ellis, at worst, is a former AA squad of 40 member, runner up B&F, premiership player and likely to either play in his 2nd premiership or be 1st emergency for the 2018 GF.
You don't have to like him. Or even rate him highly. But don't suggest he's worth nothing or he's 'one of the worst players around'.

Premiership player. Stands put in our team as not Best 22 but will be a walk up start into the Suns team...probably a top 10 player such is the quality of their list

Here is how Brad Hardie thinks a trade for Tom Lynch would go down.
Even though Lynch is a Free Agent, Hardie believes the Suns will do a trade with the Tigers instead.

Andy Maher on SEN just said Richmond supporters would be happy if the Tigers were forced to give up next year's first and second round pick to the Suns for Lynch.
Ummm Andy, that's not free agency; that's a trade. It's also still less than the pick 3 compo the Suns will receive under F.A.
Only a nuffy would have criticised him last year. A real tosspot would have said Castagna was the better playerAnd only a muppet would defend Bellis as a footballer the way you do.
Hey we are all stressed out about finals but really guys??
Take a chill pill.
B Ellis played pretty well in the GF.
He puts himself on the line every game and is a player of the RFC.

I don't think its about respect mint, personaly i just don't think he is good enough, i think we have players that are better than him, MILES is one of them.

Wow...one look at the garbage Hawthorn dished up for 3/4 of last night's game and he would be running the opposite direction.Frawley a deadset liability last night, looked vulnerable every time the ball headed in his direction.
Hawks are stuffed. Old guys are too old and slow. A few handy middle-aged players, largely traded in. Not enough youth coming up. Same with Sydney and Geelong.
Wallace worried free agency is turning the AFL into the EPLNot really sure how anyone with any understanding of free agency could have ever thought that it would have worked out any other way. You would have to be very naive to believe that players would want to move from one lowly club to another, simply doesn't make any sense.

Hall of Famer Terry Wallace says he’s worried free agency could lead to the AFL becoming more like the EPL in the long term.
With both Gold Coast captains, Tom Lynch and Steven May, likely set to head to Victorian powerhouses in the trade period, Wallace is concerned about the future of the competition.
“I’m really frustrated with the way the system is playing out,” Wallace told SEN Afternoons.
“You’re getting all of these players leaving bottom clubs and going to top clubs and we are – I don’t want to overplay it – but the EPL is in a situation where only basically five or six clubs can win every year.
“They’re the elite and everyone goes to those five or six clubs. If you want to try and win one, you go to those five or six clubs.
“The other clubs become almost a breeding ground and when their players become good, they go.
“And this is what we’re getting to here.”
Wallace points out the last two premiership winners – the Bulldogs and Richmond – have risen out of nowhere, but says his concern is more in the long term.
“The more that this system is playing out the more the likelihood of us becoming (an EPL) type of situation, because if (May) goes, where’s he going to go? Collingwood or Hawthorn,” he said.
“So you have one Gold Coast captain going to Richmond, the top team, and the other going to the third or fourth team in the competition.
“They have both picked the three top seeded (Victorian) sides in the competition.
“And what else happens then? The Gold Coast get high-end draft picks and they develop them up until they become the next group that walk out the door like Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy.
“I’m not having a crack at those guys at all. The cycle continues to play out.”
The former Western Bulldogs coach admits he doesn’t know what the solution to the problem is.
“Those that ring up and say only allow these guys to go to the bottom eight sides – you can’t because the rule was brought in for the players,” he said.
“It wasn’t brought in for the clubs, whether you like the rule, or you don’t like it, it’s too simplistic to say only go to the bottom eight, but I’m not liking the way that it’s playing out at all.”

Tigers and GC still nutting a deal that keeps AFL happy , trade will be involved , names like Ellis and Miles being floated.

Will be on the trade radio launch tomorrow.Be hilarious if he does and says his reason for choosing us was our list, culture and premiership credentials. Would have the whole Club and our supporter base pumped up going into Friday night as well as sticking it up Treloar and Collingwood ;D.

I've heard though that he won't (or even can't) announce it until the free agency period opens in October.
wouldnt announce out of respect for the clubs involved
His management have told Collingwood and Hawthorn he’s not interested, which is why it’s a fate accompli (pending GC don’t pull some last minute poo)wouldnt announce out of respect for the clubs involved
Can he just name the clubs that he's not going to?

“The biggest decision to make firstly was whether I wanted to leave the Gold Coast and that was a really tough decision.
“It’s been eight years up there.
“The club pushed us really hard for a decision, so I went away and got surgery, came down, had a big think about it.
“The other decision has taken a lot longer and I sit here comfortable but it’s not all done at this stage.”

Well if there is no announcement before The Grand Final you know what's up
What’s Lynch’s defensive pressure like? Jack Reiwoldt brings the heat nearly as well as the smalls so I can’t see why Lynch couldn’t put decent pressure on, couldn’t be worse than Caddy (not a pot shot, he’s just slow)
Are we actually getting him? He might decide he wants to go to Collingwood after what we dished up.

* Need to see what the official compensation from the AFL is first. At the moment it's still speculation.
* Some other players we'll be bringing in so we need to see the net effect of it all.
* We'll have 3 days to consider but the answer will come pretty quickly next week.

@RalphyHeraldSun
Seven years for Tom Lynch a risk for a key forward coming off a PCL injury who will be 33 but at that money absolutely worth the price of just under a million bucks a year.

does FA continue during the weekend?Yep, torch.
so his 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th year he will be close to $950,000-$1,000,000Final year he will be on $1.5m as it says in the Age article YaBB posted the link to. Here's the full article:
At the age of 31, 32, 33? on $1m
especially considering hes 25 and not 30......Well said.
you cant look at his salary in his latter years in isolation have to look at it over the entire contract. The way they structure it just depends on list strategy.
The fact that hes coming to us on 900k a year and turned down from reports 1.1mill a year from the pies, 1.4mill a year from the hawks and 1.5mill a year from the suns says it all.

A Tiger supporter on facebook got Lynch to sign a Richmond jumper. Lynch still added the #19 as part of his signature so it looks like he'll be keeping that number at Tigerland.

2024: $1,100,000 31 y.o
2025: $1,500,000 32 y.o
7 years for $6,300,000
anyone think that’s A LOT for a 30 y.o key forward with a history of having a PCL reconstruction?
Better a PCL than an ACL!
Disagree. You can make a full recovery from both but PCL injuries can hamper you forever really. Unless you're Alex Johnson or David Rodan, the ACL may only be a 12 month thing.
That’s the same picture with a photoshopped guernsey lol;D
LOL William Vogue obviously has stitching up the back of his head.:lol
Interesting that he really appears like a young kid in front of the media, lack of exposure from being on the Gold Coast
This will certainly change and hopefully his confidence increasing will lift his footy output ever higher :thumbsup
Lynch in a Richmond polo at his presser :thumbsup. Here's the vision of Lynch's presser:
* Glad it's all over and can move on. Happy to be a Tiger.
* Joked about there being more media here as a Richmond player.
* Played with Caddy and Prestia so know them. Looking forward to get to know everyone else.
* Impressed by the Richmond Football Club. They've got something pretty special.
* Coming here is great for my footy. Great to be a Tiger.
* Knee going extremely well. Had good news from the specialist the other day. A month away from running. Should be right for round 1. Will start slowly on a modified training pre-Christmas but will ramp it up in the new year.
* Nice to fit in and learn from the club's leaders Cotch, Riewoldt and Rance.
* Very happy to nominate the Tigers and become a Tiger. Can't wait!
And the whinging continues ...

A Carlton fan outraged by "draft tampering" :stupid :lol
Yep hard to believe he was their captain. Has clearly not received the level of support he should have. Not surprising when Gary Ablett is your leader
Potential here is huge. If the opposition put heaps of work into Lynch then Jack gets off the chain. This could be a deadly combo.
Don't forget Caddy. This is going to be awesome. I'm more excited than when Cousins joined the club.

He was one of their better media performers ;D
And if we look at it honestly, when Prestia got to Richmond he wasn't that great in front of the media either. Still not the best much improved
Where as Caddy, having been at Geelong has always been very impressive
Huge acquisition and possibly the best recruit the Tigers have ever obtained. Very excited at what Lynch will bring to our team as one of the best players in the comp. We now have 6 A grade stars :shhIan Stewart says hello.
No surprises here. Tom Lynch has officially taken the no.19 jumper. :gotigersChoosing #19 helps with club marketing for next year too :thumbsup.

Lynch’s mobility can also help give Toby Nankervis a rest in the ruck, which will allow Shaun Grigg to play as a permanent VFL player rather than as the second ruck.

Quoted for truth
Where does Lynch play in our best line-up?
I actually think it might be deep forward, with Riewoldt playing a mobile CHF.
I'd say they'll swap according to mstch-ups and situations.... :shhExactly.
"We went out for dinner the other night on the Gold Coast," May said.
"We were talking about the Anzac Day Eve game. He said he was looking forward to playing on me, but I said I'd probably be playing on the best forward and that's Jack Riewoldt.

His 2018 season was only 10 games long but still impressive!
Tackles?
What should we expect from the new Tiger in 2019?

With respect Jack didn't kick 10 on May this season up on the GC.
He had 3 opponents that day.
Some poor clueless kid started on him.
May didn't get moved ontp him until the 2nd qtr. Then they went back with the clueless kid and then May again.
There was a third for about 10 minutes but cant remember who that was :lol
Correct.
He is at the club every day!
Most likely nothing but some nuffie Richmond hater that I work with reckons he knows a surgeon and Lynch has re injured his knee and had another surgery recently.
I mean, probably nothing, potentially just winding me up and I've completely fallen for it. But thought I'd throw it out there, see if anyone else's "inside info" matches up....
It was reported about 6-8 weeks ago that he'd had a clean up on the knee to hasten recovery. Maybe that's what's he's talking aboutMay well be, like I said the blokes a complete nuffie, but he occasionally has a solid piece of inside goss...
What's the rush. rather be safe than sorry...plus we have fututre hall of fame legend Buddy Balta ready to go now.... :shh

He’s in.Got the scoop, Willy?
Playing with fire rushing him back like this... :shhI don't think so. He won't get worse from the outing. If he reinjures his PCL, that could happen just as easily as if we waited another 3 months...... :shh
Every post is :shh :shh:shh
Are they rushing him back?Remember last years Prelim, Dougy?
I seriously doubt our fitness team would be okaying it if he wasn’t 100% fit. He came to club to play in these games, to that end we have to honour that part of the deal.
Which knee is the PCL issue? If you can't tell that would be a good result.
stuff me he was well short of a gallop. He'd be ecstatic to have snagged a few.
We're looking forward to getting out there and playing. They played off for a Grand Final, so you want to test yourself against the best in the competition.
Tom Lynch on Collingwood
Imagine coming to RFC to win a flag and standing next to Mav Weller in the forward line
Imagine coming to RFC to win a flag and standing next to Mav Weller in the forward line
:shh :shhImagine coming to RFC to win a flag and standing next to Mav Weller in the forward line
...and now he's gets to be the main target up forward again for at least a month.....starting next week in front of a crowd of stuff all people in a non-football state....:shh
I feel that in the first couple of games we have been obsessed with bombing the ball toward Lynch. Against the Pies there were a number of occasions where at least three small forwards were on their own but ignored. If Lynch is the only target then he has to get ball to ground and like our original game plan the smalls have to be there when it hits the ground.totally agree
Imagine coming to RFC to win a flag and standing next to Mav Weller in the forward line:shh
So according to Slobbo. Lynch is "one of the worst defensive forwards in the competition" ....geez he's no tackling machine nor is he a manic chaser but all things considered on the evidence so far this year he still looks a few steps up from the absolute bludger KPPs we had partnering Riewoldt up forward in recent years... :shh
...and now Gold Coast have gone past us...just keeps getting better for poor old Tommy boy... :shh
The way this season is going he'll cop a significant injury soon.
Worth every dollar we gave him.
Both hacks all the same and lynch was owned tonight
Agreed george.
The only good entry I can recall came from Stack, hit baker lace out.
Get a grip. What a laughably stupid & hysterical overreaction.
The guy has had no preseason. Get a grip of yourself. He was always going to struggle for the first half of the year. Fact. Trengove went to tbe bulldogs as a free agent too and was put into their leadership group IIRC. Hardly a dud. Was actually in Cotchin's draft and I know guys who rated him very highly at the time.Get a grip. What a laughably stupid & hysterical overreaction.
Ah no
Why ?
He was pathetic last night
No leadership
Doesn’t take a ruck contest
Got towelled up by a VFL player
And besides the injured players in the 9 games , was the lowest ranked player of the round
It’s going to be a long 6 years at $800k plus

For a guy coming off a knee op, that haven’t played much footy in the past 2 years, with minimal preseason, and in a new side with different teammates and a different game plan, I think he has been ok.
Blind Freddy can see he is not moving that well but like most stars, he is out there having a pretty decent go. The easiest thing for him to do now is have a rest and get people off his back but I bet he doesn’t.
Also if you have watched our games at all over the past 3 season, we are not a team that relies on a big forward to win is games. Whoever plays there is like everyone else and just playing a roll.
To the extent we basically changed the way Jack plays his footy to suit our game plan.
From my point of view he is about where I thought he may be. It’s others around him that are down IMO.
When characters like Matthew Lloyd and Jackster align in their potting that’s when I turn off
The problem is it’s not his fault that he is being selected when he is clearly underdone. So don’t have a go at him. Have a go at the selection committee. When characters like Matthew Lloyd and Jackster align in their potting that’s when I turn off
Mate
I rarely miss a training session
Open or closed session
He is struggling
I am with Matty Lloyd on this one , he is a liability . No defensive pressure and hopeless below his knees🤦♂️
How many games of AFL you play Chucky ??? 👌
Have you ever thought that the PCL injury has slowed him down ?
And then to have to carry injuries as the season progresses ?
My 14yo daughter said to me “ how come Tom is so slow “
Seriously watch the games
He might never be the same after the injury he had
And now got other issues 🤦♂️
You need to start taking more heed of the quote beneath your avatar.... :shh

He isn’t under done at allInjured or underdone, the point is they are playing him when they should be resting him. It's not his fault they pick him. The medical team should step in if he is injured. Why are you having a go at him if you actually saw him get injured at training? Have a go at the club.
He is carrying an injury and shouldn’t be playing but once you run out you give your best
I have no doubt he is carrying a quad / groin injury that he injured at training 2 weeks ago
Limped off at closed session when kicked the ground having a shot at goal
Irrelevant what the club say and we all know Balmey tell the truth 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Last two weeks has been embarrassing
Don’t play him I say
But who really cares what I think
Same as Dusty before Preliminary last year . Couldn’t even do the ladder run throughs at training but out he runs 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😂
I'm thinking Lynch probably kicks 6 this week now.
Won't make it. Trade for Taberner. :shh
Will kick 5 now, nothing surerWon't make it. Trade for Taberner. :shh
If Taberner is ever in the yellow and black, i'll spew up!
Lynch on Ch 7 just said he only got a corky on the calf and he's all good.:thumbsup
Where is all the Tom Lynch BS now?
The media and 7 year old daughters have had to eat humble pie.
What a beat up that was!
geez talk about over reaction.
hmm every time we get smashed in the midfield our forward line seems to be dysfunctional what a strange coincidence...
its no surprise lynch had a bad game the way the ball was coming in ontop of his head with 2 or 3 against him. a lot of the time he could barely get a run at it with the legal blocks north were applying against him.

We need a PLAN B if we get smashed in the middle!
Worst game by a full forward since “Sideshow Bob” Vickery. :banghead
At least Vickery didn’t have talent. What I can’t stand more is a bloke with oodles of talent wasted by laziness on the field.
Didn’t jump. Didn’t lead enough. Caught behind the pack. Didn’t smash the contest. Didn’t tackle. Didn’t chase. Offered nothing when the ball was on the deck. Provided no defensive pressure. Didn’t work hard enough up the ground.
What our million dollar man has to do is look at how big Ben Brown played, worked his absolute arse off running over 15klms, smashing the packs and flying for marks, using his bulk and massive frame to advantage.
All Lynch offered tonight was an academy award performance to allow him to kick his first goal. :shh
I hope this isn’t the sort of performance we are going to have to expect from him. Rubbish! :chuck :chuck :chuck
If Higgins, Broad, and Dud Soldo can cop it then so can this guy given he is paid the most. You can't defend that performance last night as I have in the past with him.Soldo was better than Lynch IMO.
Last night he was putrid. If it wasn't for Soldo it would have been the worst game by anyone this year IMO. Did he forget to jump and make a contest, or was he still injured?? He played like a girl last night and that's probably an insult to them
I hope it was a one off because things are about to get tougher
Lynch clearly still under done and hampered by last week's corky. No choice but to play given our pack of KPF depth at current with Jack out.This. We were murdered in the centre. We were murdered in tackling We were murdered in work rate.
F50 delivery was terrible.
I want to see more out of him personally but I'm looking beyond his first few months, he's a long-term prospect for the club and is still working up to his best.
Biggest problems are in the midfield for me...
Stop reading after "Soldo was better than Lynch..." :biglaugh :biglaugh :biglaughI’m not saying Soldo was good last night but if comparing to the game Lynch had, he was considerably better in his work rate and effort than Lynch.

The difference is I don’t expect much from Soldo as he’s just a fill in. Lynch shouldn’t be playing this poor but facts are facts he was worse than Soldo last night. Fact.
Either way both were extremely poor.
Lloyd said he wouldn't go as far as last time when he called Lynch a "liability" but Rance was right during the preseason when he said Lynch still had things to work on. Lloyd said Lynch is moving too early into his 'space' as the ball comes in. So he is often getting dragged and caught under the ball. Lloyd added that he'd love to give Lynch some one-on-one training to help him.

Hmmm......
A slower start to the pre-season following knee surgery last year would certainly have an impact, because if you don't get that solid block of training in pre-Christmas, you're generally chasing your tail for the entire season.
Without knowing the intricate details of his program, it's unlikely he would have got anywhere near the volume of running in his legs he'd need to be firing. And if you try and increase those loads now, it can make you more sluggish when it matters on the weekend.
:lolYou laugh when he dropped a sitter with no one within five metres of him?
You're going to look like an absolute clown soon enough, mr worshipper.
You're going to look like an absolute clown soon enough, mr worshipper.
I’m stating facts about the uselessness of Lynch currently. I wouldn’t be happier if he actually started doing what he was recruited to do. At the minute he’s making Sideshow Bob look like he was a better forward.
Why are you getting personal and calling me names? Like it’s bad to worship? Are you serious?
Much better effort in the second half. For a bloke who didn’t have a preseason, who barely trains, in a side where he is the only key forward option, who is coming 5th in the Coleman, you are expecting too much. He is on one leg FFS.
I will be his biggest critic only because I’m expecting big things. As long as he tries hard and competes at the required standard I won’t have an issue.

Boom or bust? Malthouse rates the recruits of 2019
I feel for Richmond’s Tom Lynch.
I have written previously about the former Gold Coast forward and I will reinforce the message that he needs space in front of him for leading patterns. Space that Richmond doesn’t give him.
His teammates further afield continue to kick it on top of his head, which is making him too easy to spoil. When Dustin Martin plays out of the goalsquare, Lynch finds himself too often out of position and he seems to have lost confidence.
For the Tigers to advance through the finals, at the very least, Lynch and Martin must play side-by-side deep in the forward line to give each more leading space.
But Richmond is not particularly great at delivering the ball cleanly to its forwards. Jack Riewoldt has had to take some spectacular marks to make his teammates’ kicking look good.

Should have had 5
I do like it we he attacks the footy and takes it high because he’s definitely a one grabber.🥃🍻
He does miss some sitters though, today he could’ve kicked 5 today.
Hopefully he’s reached his peak by finals he will be unstoppable.

I love Richmond
Glad he has found his true form
Bottom line is that you still based an entire argument on how crap Lynch was on what a little girl supposedly told you... :shh
This guy is an absolute gun. I wonder how the egg tastes on your face Matthew Lloyd.
I guess that the main issue here is anyone with any knowledge about the injury he had, the rather unique surgery he had and the very limited preseason he had, would have realised he would have never been the player he is now back in the early rounds. The club kept telling everyone that they didn’t expect much from him apart from competing in the air, not getting outmarked and bringing the ball to ground which he did. So harsh criticism of him was totally unwarranted. Totally. This guy is an absolute gun. I wonder how the egg tastes on your face Matthew Lloyd.
If you listen to Matty Lloyd comments today , he was entitled to his opinions and backed it up with evidence etc
The Tom Lynch of Friday night is totally different to the Tom Lynch of two months ago re running patterns and wrestling with opponents

I think the other thing is anyone can have wild extreme opinions on a week to week basis. You expect the “experts” like Lloyd to know that with his lack of preseason and surgery he was going to basically have to push through the first half of the season to build match fitness.
Most commentators were quite reserved in knowing that lynch was always going to be a long term prospect but Lloyd went as far to call him a liability and I’m glad Dimma fires back by saying Lloyd probably doesn’t know how to spell the word
I always had huge wraps for him and always felt that he was a superstar power forward that was let down by a poo team. So glad he crossed over to us
Melbourne great Garry Lyon believes Lynch could be the difference in the Tigers' hunt for a flag.
"This is why what's going on now at clubland in terms of targeted recruiting is important, because they've identified what they needed and they put all their chips in to it and they were able to pull it off," Lyon said on Fox Footy.
"He could end up delivering them another premiership and that's why it (targeted recruiting) is so critically important.
"He is looming larger every single week. You can just see on a nice warm day in September that he rips the whole thing apart."
Lyon also said the criticism of Lynch earlier in the year was laughable.
"The questions about him earlier (in the season) were all nonsense," he said.
"He was a bloke trying to find his feet who hadn't done much of the pre-season and he was just going to get fitter during the season as opposed to coming straight out and getting fitter now.

Only joking mate. :thumbsup
I put $50 on him to win it during the preseason! If he can get good service against Carlton he’s a chance!
Cameron been cold for a while.Brown choked last year. Only kicked 10 goals in the last 6 rounds while Jack kicked 28 in that period to win the Coleman.
If Brown wins it I'll make myself sick. Hawkins too...
Love how he plays with mongrel

Useless below the knees
And got towelled up by Jackson Trengove who is on a pie and a packet of chips for his yearly wage , spare me please
What does Tom actually do ?
I know I shouldn't do this as I'm technically baiting but seeing Jack deleted his account what the heck
Actually saw Jack last night, he was like all of us rapt with the result. He said to me "Go tigers". I said "yeah and what about that dud Tom Lynch :lol" ( yes I laughed as I said it)... for reason I d0nt get he didn't get the joke ;D
Without Lynch in the early part of the season. playing without any preseason, playing unfit we don't make the top 4
Without Lynch taking those big marks and kicking the goals against Geelong we don't make the Grand Final
Without Lynch leading Haynes away and allowing Jack to play on the not quite fit Davis and kick five goals.....nah we would have won anyway ;D
Just a moment to remember all the people on here who bagged him nonstop. You were not the only one there coach...... :shh
And a moment to remember AT The Courageous was not one of them....:shh
Gun :shh :shh

Any truth to Lynch going in for some scans??Yes according to Ch 9 news. But they haven't yet said what for.

RICHMOND spearhead Tom Lynch in some sort of doubt for Thursday night’s clash against Hawthorn with an ankle injury. Nothing disastrous, but Lynch has been diagnosed with low grade bone stress in his ankle.
Richmond confident Lynch will be fine to play after scans on ankle yesterday. Tigers say injury is at the real low end and despite the soreness and the game being only two days away, believe he'll be running out against the Hawks.

No glove this week by the look of it. Just some padding.
Lynch didn't train with the main group today. He trained earlier.
Tomorrow D-Day to see if he trains with the group according to Tom Browne.
Any news on how Lynch went yesterday at training?Training test now tomorrow according to Burge.
Right call if he is not ready as doing it again would see him out for the year.Yep and there is always next week.

It is the right call. We can always revert to the "Jack & the 5 dwarves" forward set up. It won a flag for us the first time, why not go with it again? :cheers

Because it was exposed by the end of 2018.... :shh
Not just talking about the prelim.....:shh
Not just talking about the prelim.....:shhOk then. So what are you talking about then?
The last 4-5 games saw us exposed with the one ruck and one key forward.
Also, sides rebounding the ball through the corridor saw us badly exposed off our f50.

No
But I'm not a fan of Brooke and I doubt every player is either
Anyone else heard about a rift between lynch and Cotchins wife?
Who is Hamish hartlett?Hartlett missed his chance to join us in 2017 ;).
Nobody

“Who is the bloke who is going to walk up to him and say ‘Tom, you make one more mistake win or lose, you are not playing next week. You’re going to miss a Grand Final, you’re on 800,000, you’re going to cost the club. You’re that close to being suspended Tom, don’t you dare go over’. All that sort of stuff.”

Nice of him but if I was that kid I wouldn’t want any piece of that from an opposition player that just knocked out my team lol
Collingwood today trying to claim they never were after Lynch :lol.
First their footy manager Walsh on MMM said they never were. Then Eddie chipped in and claimed they only phoned Lynch once and left it there.
Yeah right! :rollin

They do realise there’s video footage of one of their officials (can’t remember who) going to his house pretty late in the season and jumping the fence on his way out to try and avoid the media lol

Was much better today in the contest. Still not clunking contested pack marks as often as remember him doing in 2019 though. Also needs to stop giving away frees when he’s pinch hitting in the ruck in fwd50 otherwise get someone else to take them.
Can't read it, but plays from behind an awful lot for a key forward. Our forwards coach needs to remind him that he's 6'6" and built like a brick poohouse. Get in front Tom!

The article was in Slobbo's "dislikes" and is about Lynch trying to take too many one-handed marks. :shhWhich is what you have to do when an opponent is holding the other arm.
4. STOP THE ONE-HANDERS
Tommy Lynch has a minor flaw. He is a powerhouse forward and opposed to Tom McCartin on Saturday, was meritorious after half time when the match was done. His penchant to try to mark one-handed, however, is small facet of his game that he needs to eradicate. It’s not the first time this is on the radar. Lynch likes to use his strength to hold his ground behind his opponent. He uses an arm to keep position, but doesn’t release that arm when the ball arrives over the back, meaning too often he leans back and tries to mark the ball one-handed. It was a Wayne Carey speciality, but not even Carey could consistently take one-handers. It might be nitpicking, but I reckon every coach in every grade in every year played has said: “Two hands on the ball.’’ And sometimes, Lynch’s strength lends itself to giving a free kick away. He gave away two free kicks on Saturday and has given away seven for the season, which is the equal most for key forwards along with West Coast’s Oscar Allen and Brisbane’s Joe Daniher.
Stinker.
Slow.
Poor with his hands.
Always playing behind.
Doesn't seem to read the ball drop well at all.
Play him second ruck.
Is his role to drop marks and run slowly?
Last time matty Lloyd publicly criticised him he went on to kick 6 goals against port at Adelaide oval to win the game when we were without rance, Riewoldt, cotch and dusty........ sound familiar???
Thought he was more on his bike he took marks because he was on the move and it stopped two or three hanging off him.
Did he play more the JR role and Jr who i thought very good despite the low stats played more Toms role.
This week tom was in the best 5. Could have kicked in reality 5 or 6 kicking goals and taking marks despite what Hardwick said is what we got him for.
Maybe this is why we now have a mid season pick?Nah Soldo being put on the LTIL is why we have a pick. By the time the draft and bye occur Lynch would be on track to be back in a few weeks after the bye.
What sort of deal could we get for trading Lynch?
What sort of deal could we get for trading Lynch?
Trade him to Melbourne for their first rounder (probably low around 20).
The rate this guy is going since 2019 we would be better off with the cap space to spend on CCJ + Chol.

I'm exaggerating but they are the type of club that might bite. Ben Brown hasn't worked out and they are surely in the flag running.Short memory that first season he was basically a big reason we won the flag same as last year had a huge influence no idea some people.
He was huge in 2019. Modest in 2020. Quite average in 2021. Jack and CCJ have both looked better. It's concerning and if he doesn't return to form in the second half of the year is it worth losing guys like CCJ + Chol for him?

People reckon his tradeable do you understand he has been hampered by injury this year ?.
The qualifying final against lions last year showed how badly we needed lynch

Please. It's not like he was particularly good last year.
He's been mediocre since 2019.
If he's not clunking marks, which he often isnt, then he's just a lumbering down the line target.
His set shot kicking has been poor recently too.
Not saying he's crap by any stretch. But he's not the superstar CHF that I was expecting.
And our forward line hasn't exactly imploded without him.

So do you think we would have won back to back flags without him I doubt it.He commands the best defender and his fotm in 2019 was good.Let's not forget the role Dimma asked him to play to.

No, I dont think we would have won back to back without him, but the same could be said for a number of players.
Lynch is just not good as I thought he would be.
Personally, I was hoping for more than a few very good games, a few below average games and a whole lot of passable 'bringing it to ground' games.
if you are satisfied with his output thus far then fair enough. Agree to disagree.
I'm sorry, but you lose all credibility when you say an argument could be made that Jason Castagna was as important to us winning flags as Lynch :lol
One of our only blokes in form. Good on him. Hope he bags another handful
One of our only blokes in form. Good on him. Hope he bags another handful
What a difference a couple of weeks make
My main issue with him is that he misses too many easy shots and it's often at crucial points in the game... :shh
Sometimes he's a better shot from further out. That missed shot vs Freo killed us. No excuses for it when you're paying a bloke that much $$$ to kick goals for a living.
Can we trade him out lol?He is really a disappointing player and very frustrating to watch on tv.
I do agree was on fire first couple weeks when.he come back , but gez he gets nothing from the umpiring I tell you.
Can we trade him out lol?He is really a disappointing player and very frustrating to watch on tv.
Dimma then had a not so subtle dig at the umps:This is what Dimma is talking about. Clear frees to Lynch deliberately not being paid :thumbsdown.
Dimma: "He (Lynch) doesn't get treated fairly at stages. I would like those people (journos upstairs) to have a really good hard look at his game. Study it and see what they see. They will always find something to criticise I guarantee you. Once again the critics sit there and they judge from afar. Come and sit on the field and see how you go. Tough game these days."
Journo: "Do you mean treated unfairly by the umpires or by the critics?"
Dimma: "Watch the game! You have a look."
Wheres the stat on how often he gets scragged or blatant frees he’s not given?Did anybody mention Joe Diver-her today? :-\
Free kicks aside, Lynch had plenty of opportunities to impose himself on the weekend, but he was completely towelled by McKay.
He never gets any separation on his man because he's slow AF, so if his hands aren't sticky, then really he's just a 'bring it to ground' guy.
He's not a spud by any stretch, but personally I was hoping for more from a very highly paid CHF.
100%, well said Dimma.I think big Johno Brown hasn’t got any issues with Hardwick.
these blokes go around saying what they like, but dont know how to deal with it when they cop it back.
Remember Jabba a few years back said Buckley's life is not fulfilled if he doesnt win a flag, or words close to that. Jabba is one example of the many flogs in the media who deserve everything they get.
I agree with you about Robbo it’s a wonder hes actually got a job in the media. Worst journalist in the league

Harsh blaming the key forwards for our midfield's failure to win the ball and us continually having to start our attacks from D50 with 22 opposition players in front of us.
In any case, when we signed Lynch's contract there wasn't all these stupid new rules like the Stand rule that have caused the lowest return from key forwards in Coleman medal history. Carlton had Cripps, Kennedy, Cerra and Hewett winning the ball out of the middle at will and yet McKay and Curnow hardly contributed. Teams now flood back into D50 thanks to the Stand rule making it harder for key forwards. Another moronic SHocking legacy ::).
Harsh blaming the key forwards for our midfield's failure to win the ball and us continually having to start our attacks from D50 with 22 opposition players in front of us.Despite all his ups & downs Tom Lynch has already proved he can play. Very few (in fact none!) of the KPF's in the league are ripping the world open at the seams like they would a few years ago, so whatever the reasons for that, Tom Lynch isn't solely to blame. The only players who kicked bags this week were unknown rookies!

Was really disappointing tonight. Couldn’t hold a mark if his life depended on it. Balta was worse.
Granted our inside 50’s were rubbish but it doesn’t help when a forward isn’t willing to lead to space.
I don’t understand the reluctance.

Was leading up to the wing in the early game and it was working great. Late game was just bomb it on the head of two or three falls going for the same ball. It's hard to know if that coaching or just players not following the plan or not being able to follow the plan. Only those in the know would know that so it's very hard to place blame.
Brilliant game last night from Lynch. Terrorised the Doggie defenders. They had no answer. He worked his guts off and his pack/contested marking was on song. Loved the play where he worked up to the wing to take a contested mark and then worked hard back to the goalsquare to take another pack contested mark in the space of 30 seconds and kick the goal.

In fairness so far this season he has been working hard but just not clunking the big marks
I actually prefer him playing up the ground, we look better when he is playing that role
There’s some things he can work on obviously but geez the umpires give him nothing. Especially when you consider the free kicks that some of the other KPF around the league draw. He is constantly held/blocked off the ball and has his arms chopped and is taken high in the contest.

Spot on been happening for years never getting the frees Blind Freddy can see and othere forwards get.
Why can't he every get a free?he got a goal from one. What about parts of his game that don't require umpire assistance?
Shocking tonight and really gets me how he doesn't present for the outlet kick like other big forwards. So true. Its mindboggling
Why can't he every get a free?
A memorable 200th. Leading the Coleman tonight :clapping.
Also kicked his 400th goal.
Shut up a few of the media critics too. Our problems have been further up the ground which has starved Tom. Tonight the ball was mostly in our forward half so Lynch had a day out.
Another great game by lynchy (first half mainly), 27 goals from 8 games, leading the Coleman, presenting well, marking strongly what more could you ask for! Ok maybe stop missing the easy chances :lol
Looking back on the thread, plenty are quick to pile up on him after a quiet performance, hopefully can give him some kudos on the back of his strong form.
McGovern wasn't. Bloke doesn't play on anyone. Barely saw him when we played them
Saw the vision again. Forearm/elbow to the head, drew some blood. Might be in some trouble old tommy boy.

Prior to that alot on here wanted him gone.... I didn't :shh
Now the same folks are gushing over him ;D
I have defended him plenty over the years too but I think it's good people are giving him credit now that he's stepped up massively the past month. That's what you want from supporters. It would be a lot worse if everyone didn't get behind him and just talked about the bad performances of the past.
Has to kick those goals simple as that no excuses.
Excellent pressure applied for a key forward with 17 pressure acts. :clapping
Only Clarke had more (22) than him out of all forwards.

Charges laid:
Tom Lynch, Richmond, has been charged with Wrestling Lachie Plowman, Carlton, during the third quarter of the Round 14 match between Richmond and Carlton played at the MCG on Thursday, June 16 2022.
In summary, the player can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.
A first offence for Wrestling is a $1500 sanction. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

If this game and past month has taught me anything it’s that Lynch is our most important player by some margin.
Even when he’s having an avg game he’s still taking away the opposition teams best defender and often drawing multiple defenders away for our other fwds to benefit.

I can’t believe this was ever in doubt. I couldn’t believe the narrative that if he’s not kicking 10 goals a game he’s a liability and not worth the money. The guy is a jet and insanely important for structure. I think lynch‘sgoal tally is often a result of coaching (sometimes he’s a decoy?) and poor supply. His accuracy in general needs work for sure but sort that out and hopefully he can snag a coleman before he retires
Okay a bit of devils advocate here Haaarrgghhhh. Not a critique at the end of the day you can only beat the opponent you have.
Thing is eight goals against Grainger- Barass a 195cm 2nd yr player and still very undersized player does not look quite as good if it was against one of the more experienced and physically ready kpd's going around.
Have never been a critic of Tom either, i think he has been very good for us every year he has been there. It never ceases to amaze me just how blinkered we can all get and just ignore injuries or even players like TL playing with injuries because there is no one else.

Might be easier for you to just make a list of KPD's you actually rate highly that we can measure our own forwards against.
Can only beat who's in front of you and my argument for Lynch this week is that he was on some kids (Jeka first? The DGB then Sicily) and gave them an ABSOLUTE BATH kicking 8 goals, including some difficult kicks, and properly capitalising on the occasion. He's in awesome form.
Note Jack went scoreless despite the ass whooping we inflicted? Stuff like that tells me he's done.
Lynch on Ch 7 said just now said it's groin soreness. Just seemed to get worse as the game went along and he was sore in the last quarter. He will have scans but he mentioned we have the week off and he thinks he will be fine to play in a fortnight's time :pray. Would've been doubtful for next week if we had been playing.
Yep. He wouldn't have bent over to pull that large eski full of drinks out the way before the song either if it was bad. Did you see him prance over for the photo? Looks fine.
Just the club facade so the AFL doesn't have a whine about the sub we used.
2nd in the Coleman, clunking contested marks for fun. Has been sensational in the back half of the year. The key to our finals campaign.

Get a squishy rubber ball - the sort that offers some resistance - and jam it under your foot when you're sitting down, then roll it around beneath your affected foot. Worked for me a few years back. :)

If lynch is struggling with an injury during pre-season then all the more reason to list Bradtke over the likes of narkle, even if it is a very minor thing and he is just being managed.

I've come to think that it's connected to the auto-immune system, somehow. If you have it bad, it'll take about 9 months to clear fully. There are a number of medical procedures you can have, but none seem to make a lot of difference in my experience. You can try high priced specialist sports physios. In the end, the solution for me was to suck it up and wait for it to get better. It did.

It did.
I am indeed suckung it up but the pain sometimes is unbearable. The medicos have said anywhere between 3 to 12 months for it to settle. I’ve passed the 3 month stage.... :-\
Mitch Cleary on 7news just said Lynch is absent from preseason training with plantar fasciitis foot pain.
9news called it simply heel soreness.

I found that buying new shoes/boots with plenty of built in arch and heel support (RM Williams or similar) and then replacing the standard insoles with Footlogics Plantar Fasciitis insoles (from the web) helped me significantly. Cost a bit, but was worth it.
Agree, I threw out all my poo shoes, all high arch shoes with plenty of support, no problems now for 5 years, fingers crossedMitch Cleary on 7news just said Lynch is absent from preseason training with plantar fasciitis foot pain.

Yes anything with a proper heel support helps and RM Williams are great for this as per my podiatrist. All shoes should have some elevation under the heel to help the foot roll forward when you walk.
All the cheap crap you buy these days is flat as a tack.
Every Tom Lynch goal in 2022.

Lynch on 7news tonight said he is confident he will be right for round 1.
7news just said there's injury worries with Lynch too. Looked like from the brief vision he went in for scans too?Lynch said it's hopefully just a corky.
More in the sports report after the break.
Fractured foot, needs surgery. Sounds long term :(
We’re stuffed, time to tank, hope the draft is looking good
I would like to know what, if any of his pre season foot issues have contributed to any of this.
I would also like to know if coming back on made it worse. Gee I wish there was a doctor on here to provide advice. :banghead
Lastly, I would like to know what our fitness guru has done to counter all these injuries. This is the guru we promoted that learnt his trade and habits over the last few years.
What a mess our conditioning is in at the moment and our issues start with this dud.
HTF do you break a bone in a foot without any impact? Someone has stuffed up Lynchs rehab

Please don’t suggest anything untoward about our man Luke. Imagine for a second it was Peter Burge.
What a shambles.

He had plantar fasciitis on the pre-season. A nasty condition I can attest having just got over it after 8 months. The plantar fascia runs underneath your foot. Quacks told me that you can get stress fractures from it but rarely bone breaks
He now has a broken bone in his foot which has had surgery on. And believe it or not you can indeed break a foot without impact. Simple misstep can cause a break, or a quick change in direction. Which I'm pretty sure would happen in the odd AFL game

Nice cheap shot there Frankie, nice to have you back for the season ;D
But I tell you what. I'm off to a player sponsor function next week I'll be sure to ask him how he did it
Love your input WP , but the whole conditioning and fitness department has been a utter mess last 2 seasons blind freddy can see it I'm not blaming every injury but so many same reoccurrence.
Since start of 2022:
With Lynch: 13-1-9
Without: 1-1-5
Lynch was injured early on in two of those losses. So they don't really count in the 'with Lynch' column. Taking games Lynch fully completed vs those not/DNP since start of 2022 would go roughly:https://twitter.com/mightytiges/status/1653276368183111681
With Lynch playing the full game: 13-1-7
Without: 1-1-7
If this game and past month has taught me anything it’s that Lynch is our most important player by some margin.
Even when he’s having an avg game he’s still taking away the opposition teams best defender and often drawing multiple defenders away for our other fwds to benefit.
Agreed mate. Without him there Jack is a sitting duck
Don't see the point in bringing him back this season unless we somehow need to win the last couple to make finals. Get him right for a big preseason.
If Lynch fails to get up for this season. He's on 85 games for us. In 5 seasons that's 17 games a year on average. When you consider how many finals we've played with him that's such a low number.
Worth every cent as he was part of 2 premierships but it's a shame there has been such larges chunks of him missing as it's a loss to us fans seeing him out on the park. He needs 50 odd games to go passed his games played at GC. It's sad to think he may not get there and finish on less games for us than GC.
No mention of stepping his training program up a month ago and opening up the fracture again? Meehan is stuffen dud.
Back in two weeks. :shh
Running laps tommorrow. :shh

pathetic. The club should be held to account here both in the way it was handled and also the fact we now have a 34 year old trying to fill the void.
id also like to know who went for the job meehan was given. Was it an exhaustive process or did he bradbury the role? Does anyone actually know

Can you please explain to me how exactly the Club was supposed to handle a severely broken foot that required surgery that is taking time to heal?
No ranting or potting individuals who are not responsiblefor the injury, just answer the question. How should it have been handled?

Something seriously wrong here.. instead of being close to playing he will head for surgery and be ready for next year.. why wasn't proper surgery done already.
This is amateur BS from RFC

yep,
spends the whole pre-season repairing an injury in his foot only to be rushed in for round 1. Now they take the long road because he injured the other foot after being rushed at the start of the year.
when lynch did this injury did he return to the field, and what foot was injured during the pre-season?
Gibcus same boat. Its becoming a habit under Louis
This is not correct WP.
Lynch has come out personally and said it was not a collision injury.
Said he had a hot spot from incorrect loading ( change of gait ) due to his plantar fasciitis injuring and he actually heard the bone crack whilst running. Think the interview was a podcast with Dylan Buckley.
WP you may be correct , but it's been a mess our fitness and conditioning last 2 seasons we're not talking isolated incidents to many reoccurrences, soft tissues etc and players rushed back very poor management preseason fitness wasn't great either club took short cuts in this department.

Lynch hasn't been on Dyl and Friends.
Yeah, I watched that, but no mention of how it happened. That's different from Dylan's podcast, which Lynch doesn't appear to have been on. I dunno, if Lynch had come out and basically potted the S & C department, it would be a bigger story and we'd know about it.

If Tom lynch is fit, he’s the best fwd in the comp. End of.By a country mile also
Meehan should be ashamed of himself.
He should actually resign over that.
Hugely unpopular opinion but I'd put Lynch up for trade. Simply put I don't see us winning a flag in the next 2 years and I'm not overly confident that he will play again let alone be the player he once was. Trade him to a Sydney to replace Bud or Dogs for a huge upgrade. Let other clubs in the premiership window roll the dice on his ability to get back to AFL instead of us trying to get him back and go from a bottom 6 side to be mid table.
Unpopular opinion I am sure but where our list is at I feel us paying his wage in our salary cap and sweating on his fitness wont bear any fruit within the timeframe he has left.
Get a decent pick for him and build from there and wish him all the best to get back to full fitness and continue his career elsewhere.

Really!!!!
I seriously doubt any club would gamble any pick let alone a 1st or 2nd rounder for Tom if he was still under a very (possibly career ending) injury cloud.
I'd be seriously p'd of if we did it under those circumstances.
Like the alternate thinking but Grundy would be forward line at richmond as well which is what he doesn’t want so where is the idea on Grundy??Hugely unpopular opinion but I'd put Lynch up for trade. I'd be very confident in the grand finalists giving up pick 17 or 18 to get him
Melb offload Grundy and his salary and take on Lynch would be genius business. They don't need Grundy anyway not are using him. Dee's forwardline is a mess.
Collingwood don't have any decent KPF and are very similar to us in 2017. Lynch would compliment them massively.
This trade would be done in a heartbeat.

Agreed.
We’d have never won the flag in 2017 with all the panic merchants on this forum.
Work to do but it’s not that bad.
Tom was at the AFLW tonight watching his Beth playingNot all of us are like that
Had a chat.
Interesting what you find out when you talk the to the person in the moonboot and the actual injury
But no point in saying anything as people will just tell me his was lying to me and it's all Meehan's fault
Yep, i also caught up with him today and he said the moon boot is off in the next 2 weeks. Such a nice person :clappingloves a quiet beer when he's on the coast

WP's a coterie member - they get special access & privileges, secret code words & handshakes etc..... :shh
Maybe silly question but I'd be fascinated how other approach our players for a chat. Personally I don't do it, not out of being righteous but probably out of fear of being blown off and having a negative experience with someone I've loved following and supporting.
Do you introduce yourself as a Tiger member? Do you talk footy or other interests eg: Toms racehorse. Be interested in how others strike up a chat.
Hey mat great story too.
Have you seen and or spoken to him since?
As a runner too Mat I’d be interested to hear what he said about running
Saw him at races last week - he told me moon boot had come off earlier that week but he’s wearing it when going out as a precaution.
Phil Davis considers Tom Lynch as one of the hardest match-ups in the game right now.

Saw him on Sunday at the AFLW game Chuck can report no pies or hotdogs to be seen.
No moonboot walking normally
All positive :thumbsup
i think the club is desperate, no thanks to Luke and his amazing staff, and knows really if we are lucky we start seeing some of the old tom by May. At worst we may never see the old tom.
As a result they are looking at who else can come into the forward line. Balta worked well last year winning games off his own boot :lol
Star key forward Tom Lynch is on track to make a return early next year after enduring an injury-hit 2023 campaign.stuff me that sounds ordinary. As if they have NFI if or when he'll be able to fully train again, if ever
Lynch spent most of last pre-season training away from the main group due to a plantar fascia issue before transitioning back into full training on the eve of the season.
The 31-year-old played the first four games of last season before missing the rest of the season with a broken foot that has taken longer than first thought to recover from.
Lynch trained indoors on a wet and windy Wednesday morning at the Swinburne Centre and won't start transitioning back into the main group until January at the earliest.
"He had a really tough run last season and right now he is ticking all the boxes, but really similar to Josh, we just need to temper how quick we get him back out there," Yze said.
"If it means he is not available at the start of the year then we've got to be really patient with that. I'm hoping he will be, but he is progressing and he will start to up the ante after Christmas.
"The scans and everything that he has been through, everything has been positive so far. Hopefully he can have a good year next year."

Lynch post-game just said it might be a hammy. Didn't mention the foot.
Another soft injury is it?.. nothing do with our conditioning staff :shh
Why the stuff was he left out there for 5mins when clearly injured. He couldn’t as the play was in the immediate area. You could see him try to get off but the play just followed him. He even had a shot on goal after the injury happened.
I watched him afterwards, he was trying to run it out. I was surprised this it was reported as a hammy as Lynch would normally jog off immediately if it was a hammy whereas a knee or an ankle is a less conclusive injury. It looked like a lower leg injury to me, I was just hoping he didn’t re-injure his foot.

Hamstring tendon behind the knee. Will need surgery and be out for a while :help
8-12 for lynch means 16+
Season and probably career done
Just about season for him and with him ours. Looking bottom 4 down the barrell now.The number of injuries we have plus Tom and Noah will be a huge struggle but opens the doors for the Tiger Cubs.
Lol get outta here.
We can always hope (pray)

If lynch is back we win.Really big Tom is probably my favorite player, he may help straighten us up a bit because thats how he plays but he won't be having a big impact coming off such a big lay off and seemingly rushed back in.

Injury confirmed on opposite leg. Definitely went in undercooked though, lacking fitness and strength. The clubs medical, fitness and strength and condition has become an absolute JOKE

Crazy we have someone on the payroll that unprofessional.
He will get defended again no doubt.

What would be the point of that? Is it to wrap him in cotton wool and focus on getting him right again for the start of next season? Because I can garauntee you he will get injured in pre-season or at the start of next.
Tom’s a very injury prone player. Has been his entire career. Couple that with the incompetence of our fitness department and it’s a recipe for disaster.

He'll give us 2 things we're dearly missed in 2024, structure up forward and more importantly leadership

I have spoken to Lynch quite a few times, and IMO is cut from the broad type of character. Very Humble and loyal.
That being said if there is any truth to this then i would ditch my club membership for next year.
I can accept bolton, baker and as much i dont like it Rioli but to trade out Lynch would be a disgrace especially knowing duds like Meehan who contributed to this are still there.
There is no way we should trade out Lynch who is required to teach guys like Bauer and Lefau. Especially to a club like Collingwood as well.
I couldn’t stand another season where Kosi is our number one banana up forward.
Not fussed either way tbh...even with the Magician finally out the door, really don't think we're gonna see much more of him as it is....if we can snag a second rounder then why not...can't help our structure much stuck in rehab..... :shh

Surely they should atleast be asking for curnow instead of mckay lol
Keep Lynch as we need the structure he brings ( it has been sadly missed )
We also need to get him to 100 games. (11 more)
Lynchy turns 32 next month. If Cumberland Bauer and Fawcett were any good they would be a compelling front structure…..
I have long been in the keep him camp. I still am. My concern is the injuries and i ask myself how many more years will we have him for? and is he just one injury away from the end.
If the answer is one year to q1 and one injury is the answer to q2 then you have to at least ask is it worth our while looking at a trade if he was up for it. Only if he wanted it. A circumstance of say he is going to a club that will give him a shot at a flag one last hurrah if you like.Keep Lynch as we need the structure he brings ( it has been sadly missed )

Sadly that structure he brings may only be for one year.
With his age and injuries we do need to find and get games into two quality key forwards.
Might mean we are a bit tall fwd but it needs to be done imo.

IF IF IF. If this and if that freakin ifs everywhere.
We might not be so iffy if we actually took some talls earlier in the nd.
What are the odds of a pick after pick 40, or rookie psd or msd drafts.
We could have 8 kpfs on the list taken there and only find if we get lucky two okay types.
Cumberland is 24 and has not done anywhere near enough be retained.
Bauer well he shows some good attributes but like so many draftees we have drafted he hardly touches the ball. It seems that is also the case when in the vfl.
Fawcett who the hell knows what was he pick 43 or something been injured but how many picks in the 40"s make it.
Our list of key/Tall forwards lets not put our head in the sand about where we have taken them.
Lynch 32 pick 11
Lefau 26 ssp rookie
Kossie 24 pick 52
Ryan 24 pick 40 ruck/fwd
Bauer 22 msd rookie.
Gray 21 msd rookie
Fawcett 19 pick 43

Lynch told Tom Morris that he'll be at Richmond next year and has already started training.

"There's a guy who has played eight games in two years, he's a two time Premiership player and his name is Tom Lynch.
I know he's on $1.4million a year on a back-ended contract, but he is the type of player I would be at least talking about internally if I was Brisbane."
-Damian Barrett on replacing Joe Daniher

Got to love the media making things up just so they have something to say :sleep
Barrett must know something Tom Lynch doesn’t , as Lynch said he wasn’t going anywhere?
I honestly think with a bit of luck in injuries and some good drafting, we might get a decent bounce in the next 2-3 years.Agree 100 pc
It’s a decent defence and we saw how well Norf’s pick 2 played off the back flank in his first year, so losing Rioli mightn’t be such a loss.
The midfield is a little shallow but still has some strength in it and with a fit Lynch, Gibcus and Moz Jnr - not a great forward line but there’s some firepower.
Getting that bounce could be crucial as it helps us secure some trade and/or free agency talent by 2028 when the likes of Meatie, Lynch, Floss, Nank, Broad are likely to have finished or be finishing up.
It might actually stop us dropping back down the ladder again.
We cannot replace Lynch but through some smart drafting we should be able to cover Baker, Graham, Bolton (at least with consistency) and Rioli while putting pressure on Ross, HRS, Mansell etc to holding their spots with a wave of young talent.

whenever he plays
Wouldn’t be surprised if he called it at the end of the season especially if he misses a large chunk of it like he has the past couple.

Tom Lynch interviewed on Fox Footy:"Feeling good," Lynch told Fox Footy.

Dunno if it's actually anything, but towards the end of training Lynchy seemed frustrated with his quad and left the ground 5 or so minutes early. Mansell then gave an interview and wasn't too confident about Lynch being ready for Rd 1.
If he's injured, I'll be shattered for him

He’s fine, got him in the chest.
Well that doesn’t matter anymoreHe’s fine, got him in the chest.
Wrong
Got him square on the chin
He got shoved into him though .. not sure what they expect Tom to do
He was pushed.
Can the club appeal and get it downgraded to a fine?
Club is challenging the Lynch charge

AFL's twisted logic:
Player gets pushed into another player. No one gets hurt. That's a week suspension for the pushed player.
Player pushes opponent into an oncoming contest that results in that opponent ending up with a broken jaw. Nothing to see here folks!
::) :facepalm :thumbsdown
Still really bothers me that Maynard got off scot free for ending a blokes career but lynch gets a week, the north bloke gets three weeks??? Chook-lotto :help
It’s like someone rear ending you car, you hit the car in front, and somehow it’s your fault
