Richmond captain, Trent Cotchin has committed long-term to the Tigers, extending his tenure beyond his current contract.
The Tigers’ skipper is contracted until 2020, but has inked a new deal to remain at Richmond until the end of 2022.
Cotchin,28, a premiership captain, Brownlow Medal winner, three-time Jack Dyer Medallist and All Australian has played 217 games in the Yellow and Black, across a decorated football career.
He has captained the Tigers since the start of 2013, and led his team to last year’s drought-breaking premiership win.
“Trent is everything we could ask for as the captain of our football club. His leadership and care for his teammates, as well as the courageous way he plays the game is just exceptional,” Richmond General Manager – Football, Neil Balme said.
“He leads by example with his talent and toughness on-field, and his maturity and authenticity off-field. We’re lucky to have him leading our playing group.”
After an impressive and promising junior career, Cotchin was selected by Richmond with pick no.2 overall in the 2007 National AFL Draft.
Cotchin’s contract news comes as Richmond recently re-signed co-vice captains, Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt, as well as young-guns Jack Higgins and Jayden Short.

What I'm suggesting is that i think the club is working really hard with our higher payed players, to renew ( not extend ) their contracts and perhaps back ending them. This clears font end payments to create salary cap space. Otherwise we may be asking ourselves why extend Cotchin when he's got a further 2 years and is 28yrs old. As Jack intimated when he extended his, they essentially screw up the current contract and provide a fresh one with new terms and conditions.

Yeah I'd say we're back ending all those ones in order to front end Lynch's for next year with everything we can. That way when 2022 roles around we've got space back in the cap, Cotchin Rance and Jack won't be getting the coin they're on now and Lynch's contract will be mostly paid off. Well, that's how I see it anyway.... :whistle

It was a good decision to sign Cotchin until 2022. Cotchin hopefully if he avoids injury is one of those players who could easily play into his mid 30s.

On ya Cotch :bow :thumbsup.

Carlton ruined Kreuzer. He and Cotch were the clear best two players in their U18 year. A top club would've looked after and developed Kreuzer's body properly when he was younger.

Wallace would've wrecked Kreuzer in his first year....... :shh

That sounds like a high platform dive.
