Seems like AFLX is up in the air (not a bad thing). With just two JLT games I wonder whether clubs will organise old fashioned inter-club practice games or just opt for intra-club short games?
-
With some of Richmond’s stars playing AFLX, there will likely be chances to showcase draftees Jack Ross, Riley Collier-Dawkins and youngsters Noah Balta and Ryan Garthwaite in the JLT Series.
Ross is a strong-bodied inside midfielder still working on his running capacity, while Collier-Dawkins is a 193cm midfielder who has impressed in scratch matches already.
Jack Graham is only weeks away from full training after a summer shoulder reconstruction but the Tigers have so far been spared the summer injuries that have hurt Essendon, Carlton and Port Adelaide.

-
Apart from showboat Reiwoldt, I hope no Tiger stars play AFLX.

Richmond’s next hit-out will be their JLT Community Series match against Melbourne in Shepparton on Sunday, March 3.
Leppitsh said Richmond will be fielding their best available team for the clash.
“We’ll have an idea after today what our team will look like, but best available, it will be,” Leppitsch said.

RICHMOND
NEW FACES: The Tigers are planning to go in full-strength for their first game, but recruit Tom Lynch won’t play, still recovering from a PCL he suffered last June. Former Saint Maverick Weller could play, as could top draftees Riley Collier-Dawkins and Jack Ross.
WHO’S MISSING: Lynch and Shaun Grigg (knee) are both targeting Round 1. Josh Caddy (ankle) and Jason Castagna (ankle) are also unlikely to feature.
WATCH FOR: The Tigers’ ruck set-up. There is much intrigue as to whether Ivan Soldo will be played as a second ruckman alongside Toby Nankervis, or if Richmond will go down a different path altogether.
JLT GAMES: v Melbourne, Shepparton, March 3, 4.40pm; v Hawthorn, Launceston, March 9, 7.10pm.

The last two pre seasons we have played with an intensity which has flowed into the season proper.
Will this continue ??
-
I dunno wy they don't just let clubs use their whole lists in these games if they want.......they're only practice matches.... :shh

I know the squad is not finalised but why would we go in with such a big team?
Surely we would use this to test a lot of players, the result doesn't really matter OR do we need to get games into these players?

If that’s who coaches think is in our best 26 barring the players injured the most surprising omission has to be kmac unless he’s also injured and I’m missing something

Probably just finally realising that he's actually not that good.. :shh

By the way, it's going to be a scorcher up in Shepp on Sunday.
You'd expect they'll have mid-quarter drinks breaks.

The Knockout King fully deserving of this chance as a run with player....:shh

Bolton played VFL practice game this morning
-
Anyone else looking forward to seeing Collier-Dawkins, Ross and Balta?
Yep. A chance to debut in round 1 if they have a good game.
The main thing though I'm hoping from today's game is no injuries [touchwood] :pray.
-
Cotch on the radio said he will be playing in both JLT games as he wants a couple of practice matches under his belt as preparation for the season proper.
So it appears we'll be playing a strong line-up (minus those injured) against the Hawks as well as the Dees today.

WHERE ARE THE UPDATES :banghead
-
Pretty ordinary start to this game. Disposal very ordinary. Smashed out of middle so far.
-
I know it’s only JLT but this is a little concerning.
-
WHERE ARE THE UPDATES :banghead
Are you volunteering?
-
26 to 7. Their mids are murdering us
-
No manning up at the stoppages. That's why they are all over us.
They also have the breeze but it's only worth a goal or two.
Finally we get it forward. After a couple of possies under pressure it gets to Higgins for a set shot. He misses.
8 - 32
-
Dusty back inside 50. Rushed by the Dees.
Dusty gets it again from the kick-in. Lace out to Jack on the lead. 45 out. Misses too.
10 - 25
-
Another bad kick-in by the Dees. Gets to Graham ... off to Short who dobs it :gotigers.
Rich 2.4-16
Melb 5.2-32
26 mins Q1
-
About time, MT.
-
It's on the tv, radio and on the net ::).
The Demons are controlling the game in all facets. They are winning the neutral ball (seven extra clearances), controlling possession with it (14 more kicks and seven extra marks) and applying strong pressure (11 more tackles).
https://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/jlt-community-series/2019/1/rich-v-melb
-
I've seen enough of Mav Weller already. Not impressed.
-
Houli off to Ross. Goes long but Melbourne clear.
They go up the other end for a goal.
16 - 38
-
FFS MT what channel is it on?
-
Fox Footy of course.
Another to them. Too easy.
16 - 44
-
44 to 16. Markov very poor error. Midfield way off the mark. Nank also cannot play forward
-
As he takes a nice mark and goals. 44 to 22
-
We look a long way off them in size, speed and aggression.
-
Thanks for the updates boys much appreciated :cheers
-
That's quarter time.
Rich 3.4-22
Melb 7.2-44
Goals: Higgins, Short, Nankervis.
Possies:
Houli 11
Short 9
Prestia 7
Higgins 7
Dusty 6
Ross 6
-
They are running harder and are first to the ball most times. TBH I'm not worried. This is the first JLT match and means nothing.
-
Disposals are even but we're handballing as much as we're kicking which is a poor sign.
Smashed in the clearances 9 - 15 including the centre clearances 3 - 7. The Dees also scored 5 goals from their clearances to just our one :P.
Being out-tackled by more than 2-to-1. Just 10 tackles for the quarter to their 24.
Contested possies 36-43. Another sign we aren't working hard enough.
Inside 50s: 12 - 16
Hitouts: 10 - 14
https://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/jlt-community-series/2019/1/rich-v-melb
-
Geez Clayton Oliver is a gun. Another goal to them after another clearance from the middle
-
Nank still playing the deep forward with Jack up high to start the 2nd qtr.
Soldo in the ruck not working. Another centre clearance and goal to them.
22 - 50
-
Markov run down.
We get it back at HB. Ross finds Dusty to Higgins who hits up Nank on 50. Goal :gotigers.
Rich 4.4-28
Melb 8.2-50
-
Rioli snaps around the body from 35 but it's OOTF.
We get it back. Ross to Edwards to Jack who snaps a goal from the pocket. :gotigers.
Rich 5.4-34
Melb 8.2-50
-
Houli out of the middle and Jack marks from 50. Just misses.
35 - 50
At least we're winning our share of centre clearances this qtr.
-
Dusty to Ellis marks 49 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 6.5-41
Melb 8.2-50
-
RCD looks classy.
-
4-2 up in the centre clearances this qtr. Two to Cotch.
-
Dusty long out of the middle. Nank couldn't reach it. Throw-in 35 out. Preuss grabs it and is tackled. HTB free to Weller. Misses.
42 - 50
-
That was HTB against McDonald but not paid ::).
Nank toe-poke is a point.
Balta marks the kick-in 60 out. Puts it up by Melbourne clear.
Melbourne finds Balta 3 times in a row but he keeps putting it up to a contest. Have a bomb with the breeze, Noah.
43 - 50
-
Much better work rate.
-
Markov deep in defence gets the free. Finds Rioli at HB. To Ross to Broad who goes to HF but Melbourne intercept.
Rebound goal to them against the run of play.
43 - 56
-
Broad pathetic turnover kills momentum. Dee's goal. 43 to 56
-
Broad has been rubbish.
-
Prestia courageous at HB. Short possies finds Grimes. To HF. Scramble and Melbourne clear.
Grimes gets it back. Short now off to Broad who finds Butler 55 out. Goes towards Dusty in the pocket but it's spoiled for a throw-in. Point to us.
44 - 56
-
Put money on C Oliver for the brownlow.
-
We really need Lynch so that Nankervis can get into the ruck. Like the look of Balta and Collier Dawkins.
-
Short inside 50. Balta can't mark. Scramble. Ball-up just outside 50. Dees clear.
Melbourne turnover at HB. Rioli marks deep but the ump pays an off the ball free to the Dees ::).
We get it back via a OOTF kick. Higgins marks and half goes for goal. Balta can;t mark but clever second effort gets the goal at ground level :gotigers.
Rich 7.8-50
Melb 9.2-56
-
Free to us as Melbourne only had 5 defenders. Prestia out of the middle hits up Jack. Floats across goal and Balta marks by the point post. Goal :gotigers.
Scores level.
Rich 8.8-56
Melb 9.2-56
-
Inside 50s 2nd qtr: 16 - 6.
Kicking far more than handballing this qtr too.
Markov finds nank inside 50 but it's paid a free to Melbourne.
Balta wide to Lambert who centres back to Broad. Goes long. Throw-in and Melboujrne clear.
Balta in the way again. His 6th mark. But he kicks it straight to Preuss down the line.
-
Balta in for R1
-
Half-time
Richmond 3.4 8.8-56
Melbourne 7.2 9.2-56
Goals: Nankervis 2, Balta 2, Riewoldt, Higgins, Ellis, Short.
-
Balta in for R1
Noah Balta's second quarter:
10 kicks
5 inside 50s
6 marks
2 goals.
:thumbsup
-
Also like Collier Dawkins he has good presence for a young kid and does nice things.
-
Richmond has pulled back its 22-point deficit at quarter time to level the scores at the main break. In that term the Tigers flipped the script with four more centre clearances and 76 per cent time in forward half.
Disposals: 189 - 172 (cont. 75 - 80). We had 66 kicks and just 27 hballs that qtr. Much more efficient.
Clearances: 22 - 23 ( centre: 9 - 9). So we got on top in the clearances that qtr too to even them up.
Inside 50s: 31 - 23 ( marks in50: 11 - 5 ).
Tackles: 27 - 42
Hitouts: 16 - 22
Frees: 9 - 15
Possies:
Dusty 15
Houli 14
Short 14
Broad 13
Prestia 12
Higgins 12
Balta 10
Lambert 10
Cotch 9
https://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/jlt-community-series/2019/1/rich-v-melb
-
First 5 mins in the Melbourne's forward line but we hold them out.
Eventually we clear. Weller to Soldo to Lambert and hits up Jack 35 out. Misses.
Well we're in front.
57 - 56
-
Cotch to Houli to Markov who finds Weller. Gets it back. Rioli to Lambert to the goalsquare but Nank is spoiled by McDonald for a point.
58 - 56
-
Markov intercepts at HB. Ends up with Weller 70 out. Goes long but Jack can't mark and it's paid a free to the Dees.
Astbury good spoil. Floss finds Ellis at HB. Goes to the wing. Ross to HF but ordinary kick and Melbourne clear. They rebound but thankfully finally miss a shot.
58 - 57
-
Dan Butler who I rate has been exceptionally poor.
-
Rioli cleverly to himself then to Higgins. Weller marks inside 50 but tries to find jack instead of going for home. Ball-up. Nank off the pack grabs it and goals :gotigers.
Nank with 3.
Rich 9.10-64
Melb 9.3-57
-
Good transition. Balta to Jack in the pocket. Centres to Butler 35 out. Misses.
Goalkicking practice needed this week.
65 - 57
-
The Butler...:shh
-
We pick off Melbourne again. Rance to Ross to Baker. Goes long. Rioli goals :gotigers.
Rich 10.11-71
Melb 9.3-57
13 mins Q3
-
Astbury intecepts at HB. Houli to Prestia to Floss to Weller to Prestia who ran on but he misses.
72 - 57
-
Cotch in the middle. Spearing pass but Soldo can't mark.
We get it back. Cotch finds Lambert 48m out. Misses right.
73 - 57
-
Astbury intercepts again. Rance to HF. Balta to Dusty who snaps around the body for a goal :gotigers.
Rich 11.13-79

Somewhere Claw is fuming we didn't end up copping a belting like it could have been at one point....:shh
-
Soldo tap to Edwards. Higgins marks on 50. Almost Balta hangs on. Lambert dribbles it for a throw-in. Melbourne clear.
We get it back. Houli to Ross to Dusty to Short to Floss back to Houli. Poor kick.
We get it back again. Houli to Balta who hballs to himself and keeps going. In the pocket and kicks back towards the goal but it's rushed.
86 - 57
-
Ump pays them a 50 plus a poor handball by Grimes allows them in for a goal against the run of play.
86 - 63
-
Sheesh
What's our forward line even gonna look like when Caddy and Lynch are fit? Balta making things interesting
-
On transition again. Prestia and Lambert 1-2. Higgins long and it's a deep pocket throw-in. Now a ball-up 50 out.
Butler to Prestia to Lambert who misses his snap.
87 - 63
Free kicks: 11 - 19
-
Coast to coast goal to them just before 3/4 time.
87 - 69
-
Kicking for goal not great. Coast to coast goal Melbourne. 87-69.
-
Cotch to the goalsquare. Higgins to baker = goal :gotigers
Rich 13.15-93
Melb 11.3-69
-
I really don't think b Ellis will play round one or much this year. Goal to us. 24 points up
-
Siren goes just as we were attacking.
3/4 time
Richmond 3.4 8.8 13.15-93
Melbourne 7.2 9.2 11.3-69
Goals: Nankervis 3, Balta 2, Martin 2, Riewoldt, Higgins, Rioli, Short, Ellis, Baker.
-
Balta is super impressive. Should be in contention for Round 1.
-
Our poor conversion kept them in the game. Twice the number of scoring shots (28-14) yet the margin is 'only' 4 goals.
Since quarter time, Richmond has made seven running bounces compared to none by Melbourne. The strength of the Tigers' run and carry game is shown by their kick-handball ratio of 1.10 in that time, in comparison to the Demons' more direct 1.81.
Richmond has managed a 46-point turnaround since quarter time and lead by four goals at the final change. The Tigers capitalised with 12 more intercepts than the Demons for the quarter, launching scores from 11 of the 26 they won in total.

I still dont get why we give away so many frees? Is it because our players make body contact always? were not dirty in the way The Hawks of the 80s were but they always won the free kick count.
-
Last quarter we took off our gun mids and played the cubs in the guts. So nothing to be concerned about.
Positives: No injuries, Fab Four, cubs impressed, Houli's return to 2017 form.
Negatives: Goalkicking - When you have 33 shots to 21 you should win easily by 7+ goals.
As for the umpiring especially in that last quarter :facepalm. Same old same old ::).
-
Richmond has won by 12 points, kicking 12 more behinds than Melbourne.
The Tigers won 21 more intercepts than the Demons, scoring 90 points launched from 88 intercepts in comparison to 46 points from 67 intercepts by their opposition.
The Tigers have transitioned inside forward 50 from 28 per cent of possession chains launched in defensive 50, well ahead of the Demons' rate at just 14 per cent.

Also why do we not receive that many free kicks? So every opposition is much cleaner than us despite us as a top 4 side being a classier team than most of them ::).

I thought Jack Ross showed good signs as well
-
Looked a class above - especially after quarter time.

Balts and Arabs were fan... RCD was good.
Markov was also very good I thought... Ellis usual game and Butler needs a few games to get going.

Butler was very poor.

RCD showed exciting glimpses but clearly not aerobically ready for AFL yet. :shh
Ross already looks an upgrade on Graham ....bigger, quicker and actually gets the ball... :shh :shh
If Butler, Edwards & yes even Rioli were cleaner more & one-touch we'd be unstoppable. :shh :shh :shh
Conversion still a worry - disappointing after the accuracy in the intraclub , obviously even the minor increase in pressure of JLT had an effect. :shh :shh :shh :shh
Soldo - yep still useless.... :shh :shh :shh :shh :shh
As for the umpiring - looking forward to our hat trick of free kick wooden spoons - on track to do it again in a canter.. :clapping :gotigers :clapping
-
The Umpires are imploding :lol

That about sums up my thoughts but I’d put Butler’s output a couple of levels below Rioli and Shedda

While agree Graham didn't have great day a bit harsh on a bloke who's only been back in full contact traing for less than a fortnight
Was equsl highest tackler though
-
I love what Graham brings to the team and he's also a down to earth no fuss bloke. I see them both complimenting each other for years to come. :shh
