Rance to play again in 2019? Don't rule it out: Grimes

THERE'S hope yet that Richmond defender Alex Rance may make an astonishing return this season, with teammate Dylan Grimes saying he is "shocked" at Rance's speedy recovery from a knee reconstruction.
The five-time All Australian ruptured the ACL in his right knee in round one against Carlton after landing awkwardly in a marking contest.
Speaking to AFL.com.au, Grimes said there was a chance Rance could be taking up his customary spot in defence by the end of the season.
"In terms of his actual physical process, he's coming on in leaps and bounds," Grimes said.
"He hasn't put a line through himself at all to play [again] this year. He's banging on the door for sure. His first three weeks, he's shown more improvement than we've seen in some ACLs in three months."
Grimes was full of praise for Rance's attitude, both in the immediate aftermath of the injury and in his rehabilitation.
"I'm so shocked at how well and … the professionalism he has shown in the early part of his injury and the recovery process," Grimes said.
"Even on the night of the injury, he was down on the bench, encouraging other players. Post-game, he was in [the rooms] making sure we were doing our recovery and getting the most out of ourselves.
"To be honest, the next day when we found out it was an ACL injury, he called me up to make sure I was okay. That's the sort of leader we're talking about."

If Libba did it I don't see why Rance couldn't give it a shot, especially if we are in contention...

libba? did he return in the same timeframe
-
Goldsack was the guy who returned early

libba? did he return in the same timeframe
Libba came back in about 10 weeks. He did so to save his career. He was likely going to be delisted. All selfish reasons for Libba.
Personally I wouldn't take any risks with Rance. Take the full 12 months. He is far too valuable and important to us.

Veteran Western Bulldogs defender Dale Morris could return to football in the next month after initial fears a knee injury could rule him out for the season.
Morris, who suffered an ACL tear at training in March, has targeted the bye rounds for his comeback – about three months after injuring his knee.

I believe it was 18 weeks.
If Rance was to do something so radical it would only be worthwhile if we were a genuine shot at the flag. Get a few games into him before finals...

By round 23 we'll be in the top 4 and Rance will be training the house down

14 weeks are you sure that's right?
Not so sure about that to be honest. He missed all of last year. Maybe it's his old man

Are you talking about Tony the skipper or his son Tom, he of the bizarre tatts?

If he comes back and reinjures himself people will say we rushed him back too soon.
If he comes back and dominates people will laid the decision.
I’m no doctor but if he’s given the all clear then him reinjuring himself will come down to bad luck rather than any medical reason.
He is that good and important to us that if he’s fully recovered and fit then he plays simple as that.

he or bizarre tarts?
:huh :shh

We might not even make finals.

Exactly Matt.
WP yes old man libba did it not the son.
I only recall Goldsack returning in the same year of the current players, but I could be wrong

Rance was expected to miss the rest of the season but given how well advanced the five-time All-Australian is in his rehab after undergoing a knee reconstruction, Hardwick admitted he might be faced with a tough decision later in the year regarding whether or not to play the star defender.
“What our judgment call is this is one of the best players I’ve ever seen play the game,” Hardwick said of Rance.
“Short term [versus] long term - so that’ll be a decision that’ll make its way in due course.
“It’s going to be a tough decision if it comes down to it but we’ll cross that bridge once it gets towards that.”

Rance is a stuff (in a good way)
If there was any athlete in the AFL that could recover quicker than the norm, it’s our star Alan Rance.
Fingers crossed for him and us.
Imagine winning our second GF in 3 years with Alex playing a massive part in it.
Surely there would be a movie made.
