Hey guys,
Heading to Metricon this year and looking for some advice on the best spots to either sit or stand.
Is it totally necessary to book seats?
Or is walk up ok
Cheers
-
Metricon has a seating capacity of around 24,500 and it has good viewing from any area. Even with the Tigers playing the crowd probably won't get to more than about 18,000 or so. If you want the security of having a reserved seat then booking would be a good idea. More a matter of where you prefer to watch the game from and then seeing if seats are available in those areas.
If its fine the sun will be an issue if you want to sit on the wing across from the interchanges as game starts 2.10pm so you'll need a hat/cap and sunglasses.
https://www.austadiums.com/stadiums/stadiums_seating.php?id=31
Hope that helps a bit.
-
Gold Coast's biggest crowd last season was against the Tigers
And it was around 15k-16k
Reserve seats are expensive. Another reason they don't get crowds
You don't need to book as there is always plenty of walk up seats available.
But the best seats are definitely the reserve because they are put of the sun
-
Thanks guys,
If I’m happy to stand and have a beer I guess walk up is best?
I did notice that reserved seats were quite expensive!!
-
We're overwhelming favourite against the Suns.

Match preview: Gold Coast v Richmond
AFL.com.au
Michael Whiting
Jul 2, 2019
Where and when: Metricon Stadium, Saturday July 6, 2.10pm AEST
What it means for Gold Coast: This season is starting to look a lot like 2018 – win a few matches early and then not much after. With 10 straight losses, the Suns are desperate to show their home supporters there's some life left in 2019.
What it means for Richmond: Every match counts and the Tigers simply have to win. Just a game clear of ninth and 10th, Richmond follows its trip to the coast with matches against GWS, Port Adelaide and Collingwood.
The stat: The Suns' loss to Sydney last week continued a shocking run in the second half of recent seasons. In 2017 Gold Coast won one of its last 11 matches. In 2018 it was again one of the final 11, and this year it's three straight losses since the season's mid-point.
The match-up: Dion Prestia v Anthony Miles
Both men are playing their former club; Miles for the first time and Prestia the second. Although slightly different players (Prestia has a little more zip and Miles a little more grunt) they're similar in nature and should provide an intriguing midfield battle.
It's a big week for: Tom Lynch
After leaving Gold Coast via free agency at the end of last season, the former Suns skipper returns for his first match at Metricon Stadium in opposition colours.
Big call: Lynch puts all the drama aside and has a day out with six goals
Prediction: Tigers by 35 points

This is the 3rd year in a row we have played GCS up there.
We haven’t played them in Melbourne since 2016.
How does that work?
I know the fixture is a chook raffle but surely the AFL can schedule sides to play at alternative venues each year. That at the very least should be their aim.
I remember the North Melbourne home ground advantage was even worse. From memory we haven’t played them at the G in 8 occasions.

Would you rather play Gold Coast or west coast away? If Gold Coast are one of or away games every year I wouldn’t complain.

Think I was pretty clear what I think is fair. It shouldn’t matter who the side is, it should be alternative venues each time you play a side.
Do you think it’s right for us not to play North at the MCG in the last 8 games??

Any chance of this being an upset?

Last time the odds were as juicy as this we played in Cairns :shh
It'll be no gimme that's for sure. Aside from their last home game against North, the Suns have been very competitive at Metricon. They've won two, choked in the last minute against the Dees, and pushed Geelong for just over three quarters. Add the forecast wet weather and it means we still need to be switched on especially at the coal face and the territory battle so there isn't an upset.
R2 beat Freo by 3 pts
R4 beat Carl by 2 pts

Good solid win in soggy, slippery conditions
Time to head home

Records
* Richmond's first quarter score of 9.2 was the highest by them in that term since Round 9, 1981 v St Kilda at Waverley, when they kicked 11.5 en route to a 31-point win that day (Kevin Bartlett four goals and Michael Roach four goals).
* Their half-time lead of 84 points was the biggest since Round 2, 1931 v North Melbourne at Punt Road. That day, they led North by 97 points at the main break – 17.9 (111) to 0.4 (4) – and went on to win by a whopping 168 points (still a Club record). A 17-year-old lad by the name of Jack Dyer debuted for Richmond in that match, while an 18-year-old, in just his second senior appearance with the Tigers – Doug Strang – booted 14 goals, which remains a Club record 88 years on.
* Their half-time score of 16.7 (103) was the third highest in the Club’s league football history behind the 17.9 (111) of 1931.
* They registered 100 points in an opening half for the first time since Round 9, 1980 v Melbourne at the MCG. That day, it was 16.8 (104) v 5.6 (36) at half-time, with the final margin being 93 points in the Tigers’ favour (captain Bruce Monteath eight goals, David Cloke five goals and Kevin Bartlett four goals).
* That first-term score of 9.2 was their best in any quarter this season.
* Richmond’s final score of 23.12 (150) v Gold Coast is the highest by any AFL team this season, eclipsing Fremantle’s 21.15 (141) in the opening round against North Melbourne at Optus Stadium.
* And the Tigers’ winning margin of 92 points is just one short of Greater Western Sydney’s season-high of 93 against Carlton in Round 9 at Giants Stadium.
