Richmond won't win the flag

10 June 2019
Consider these results: a 44-point loss to Collingwood in round two, a 49-point defeat at the hands of Greater Western Sydney the following week and a 67-point thumping by Geelong last Friday night. Those three teams are considered the main premiership threats, along with West Coast, which the Tigers haven't faced yet.
Consider this as well: there were 10 teams with a percentage in the triple digits after Friday night. Richmond wasn't one of those, having sunk to a miserable 94.5 after the Cats clash. This Tigers side has turned it on in stages, but ultimately, looks a cut below the competition's elite.

Just did the dreaded ladder predictor and have us finishing inside the 8 (8th) by 2 games with 12 wins above Freo & Sydney on 10 wins.
That is being quite conservative and losing to Adelaide, GWS, WC, Brisbane, Pies. We play 3 of those interstate teams at the MCG.
A lot will depend on when players come back from injury but hopefully we get on a roll towards the latter half of the year. I think top 4 is done for us in 2019

I am shattered, I thought we were shoe ins.
This guy must be a genius.

Some quirky stats:
* We've only made the finals twice in our history with a percentage of less than 105 and that was virtually a hundred years ago (1916 & 1924).
* We are a 2-3 goal offensively and 1-2 goal defensively worse side now than we were in 2017-18.
* The last time we were 7-5 at this point of a season, we won the flag (2017).
* We were 7-6 after 13 rounds in 1969 yet went on to win the flag two years after a drought-breaking premiership.

Are you putting a line through Richmond as a flag contender?
Tim Watson: Yes I am. As a flag contender. I don’t think they’re going to come back and I don’t think they’re going to finish in the top four and it’s too hard to win a flag from the bottom half of the eight.
Garry Lyon: Yep.

Currently 7 and 5 with Saints and Suns the next two.
Looking likely to have Cotchin, Edwards, Lambert and Astbury back for those two. Then Jack and Nankervis shortly afterwards
Have to win next 2 and go to 9 and 5.
Then our last 7 games at MCG Giants, Port, Collingwood, Melbourne, Carlton, WCE, Brisbane. With our low % we would need to win at least 5 of that 7 to make sure of a finals
Tough but not unrealistic if we get the players back and keep them healthy.
Would have to win all 9 remaining games and have results go our way to make the top 4. Do that and we would have beaten 3 of the current top 4 to prove our credentials.
Not raising the white flag yet. See how we are positioned after the Collingwood game.
