Fire away with your changes, if any?

Tough one, Reiwoldt should come in.
Not sure who goes out.  Possibly Broad.

Out: Houli (worst game in 5 years). Broad (rubbish). Ellis (rubbish). Soldo (rubbish) Caddy.

Ins: Naish. Eggs. Higgins. CCJ. Townsend (if Riewoldt is unavailable)

If Riewoldt is ready than that goes without saying.

It’s a pity Pickett is unavailable.

INS: Reiwoldt (if fit)

OUTS: Rioli, 2nd half cannot hide how bad he was in the 1st

If Jack's not fit = No Changes

Broad was actually ok
Did ok in the second quarter but was still hopeless and nearly cost us.
He was only looked ok because Houli was so terrible.

Acres kicked a goal against him in the first.
Went up 1 handed in the second for a turn over goal to saints.
Bruce in the last. Parker nearly kicked one on him too when he was caught napping.

I don’t know what you saw in him that was so good. I expect much better than what he dished up.

Best option we have atm. Garthy was getting flogged for a month before he got dropped, give him a few in the vfl before considering him again. Balta nowhere near it as a defender yet.

If Jack's not fit = No Changes

If jacks fit and he replaces one of the forwards then can take your pick of caddy and Rioli for who was worse yesterday although both significantly improved after half time. Actually think Jack for Caddy is better balance wise.

Weren’t you the one saying dusty should be dropped earlier in the season?

the Dusty of the last month is vastly different to the Dusty at the start of the year

Agree Houli had a very poor game. If Jack fit should come in but not sure at whose expense. If Jack not fit no changes.

In the Mix: Round 16

Sarah Black

2 July 2019

RICHMOND

Get them in: There were a host of players returning to VFL, but midfielder Mav Weller was named the team's best with 26 touches and a goal. Jacob Townsend put in yet another typically tough performance with 19 disposals, 12 tackles and three goals. After being told to "get the fun back", Jack Higgins kicked two goals in the first quarter and had 26 touches playing both in the middle and up forward.

Under the pump: Dan Rioli was the quietest of Richmond's rotating cast of small forwards, but saying that, still had 10 touches and kicked a goal.

Medical room:
After a whopping six players returned from injury to face St Kilda, there aren't going to be any further additions this week. Both AFL and VFL teams also got through unscathed.

Verdict:
Richmond may be unchanged for the first time this season ahead of its match against Gold Coast, but if Damien Hardwick is keen to get Higgins back, Rioli could make way. – Sarah Black

Fellow star forward Jack Riewoldt is an outside chance to play his first game since injuring his PCL in round six.

"He's harassing me, at the moment, Jack," Hardwick said with a grin.

"He's probably less likely than more likely. He'll train today (Thursday), and he'll train really, really well, but once again it comes down to a medical call. We'll trust our medical guys to put the player first, which obviously they do on a weekly basis.

"It's looking unlikely at this stage, but we'll see how he trains. There is a small chance, but with a player of Jack's calibre, we'll always be overly cautious. We'll wait and see."

There would be a case to get Riewoldt in for this game to gain a bit of match fitness and work on systems with Lynch before we take on GWS, Port and Collingwood

Caddy dropped?

I’d be reluctant to drop him, thought he got better as the game went on last week. Still has a way to go but I thought he got some swagger back in the last qtr

Caddy is injured
In what way, Jack?

Didn’t train at closed session today
Those who don’t train , 99.9% don’t play
Jack was directing Lynch where to run etc
Assume he plays

There are two people who attend closed sessions
Come and say hi when you attend
Say hi to me and Jacko
No doubt Jack could of played , but GC isn’t a final

i keep asking why do we incessantly bring in small players even when mediums and talls go out. we dont play very many of either to start with.

Glad for Egg to get a game by all reports he has had a great yr to date. But fmd he is coming in for a real big bodied medium in Caddy making the team even shorter and smaller than it already is.

The trouble really is a lack of decent mediums on the list. The only medium sized options we have atm who could come in  are Markov and Menadue two real big failures to date, who arent exactly big bodied and  just havent made the step up in 5 yrs. Then theres Townsend a five game wonder at the level.

The only other option atm is RC-D and going by reports he just hasnt done enough in the two's to force his way in.

Everyone has this game pencilled in but imo GCS are structurally at least the exact sort of team that troubles us. They have two blokes at 200cm as fwds and a 209cm ruckman.

They structure up
8 talls
8mediums
6 smalls
we structure up
6 talls including third tall types Grimes,Broad
4 Mediums
12 smalls.

Im all for playing a small player who may give us something over a bigger player who is likely to give little. But we jst dont have any option but bring in smaller players the list really needs to be balanced out.
This week it will be run and stun or bust. there will be no changing it up if things go badly  because there is no other option but play that way.
