AFL freezes ticket prices for first three weeks of finals

AFL.com.au
Aug 21, 2019

TICKETS to the first three weeks of the finals have had a price freeze for this season.

However, the AFL has announced that tickets to the Grand Final have had a three per cent cost rise, with the cheapest tickets starting at $155 for the premiership decider.

Clubs competing in the Grand Final will have access to a combined 34,000 tickets for their members.

The League has stuck with the same prices as last year for all finals tickets at all venues across the first three weeks of the finals series.

Seats to the first two weeks of the finals will start at $35, with the cheapest preliminary finals seats costing $65. On-sale times for games will also be staggered to meet online demand.

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan said it was important to the League for finals to be accessible to all.

"We are committed to ensuring finals footy remains within reach of all fans and enabling them to experience the atmosphere that the Toyota AFL Finals Series brings," McLachlan said.

"With a heavily contested season of competition so far and the top eight still to be determined, it's important that fans can support their team in person throughout the finals.

"The Toyota AFL Grand Final is not just one of the biggest days on our calendar but also a celebration of Australian culture. We continually strive to preserve affordability of the game, to make way for as much of the community as possible."

What a hypocrite. Anyone who wants to know why the AFL is a joke need look no further than the toss at the top.

I bought tickets for the “In The Wings”  function last week.

Not cheap but worth every cent for a prelim final IMO.

Bring it on!

Mad scramble for footy finals tickets begins

ANDREW KOUBARIDIS
Herald Sun
16 September 2019

Tens of thousands of footy fans will scramble for preliminary final tickets today and tomorrow as Richmond prepares to play its first home final this year.

The AFL is expecting more than 90,000 fans to pack the MCG for Friday night’s blockbuster between the Tigers and Geelong.

Almost the same number could file through the gates on Saturday to watch Collingwood tackle Greater Western Sydney for a Grand Final berth.

Richmond and Geelong will be allocated 25,000 tickets each for members, ahead of allocations for MCC and AFL members and the public.

Richmond fans began camping outside Ticketek’s Exhibition St outlet on Saturday in a bid to secure a ticket this morning.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Frank Borg said.

He joined the queue at 6.30pm Saturday and has managed little sleep since then.

But like others in the growing line, he was counting down until tickets went on sale. “I think about 4am we will be getting pretty excited,” said Mr Borg, pictured (above, on left) with fellow fans Kirsty Upjohn and Greg Moschoyiannis.

The fans in the snaking line endured two cold evenings and some “misbehaviour” from Melburnians heading home after nights out.

“There were a few bottles thrown and we had a couple crying on the corner — we think they were breaking up,” Mr Borg said.

In previous years, people had tried to give money thinking they were homeless.

“We just laughed and showed them our Tigers colours,” Mr Borg said.

Ms Upjohn is used to camping out for tickets, too.

“Every year we come back and you see the same faces. It’s not boring because we have each other, and a few board games as well. It’s like one big family,” she said.

Battery chargers for their phones, plus a projector so they could relive past glories — including the 2017 Grand Final — help pass the time.

“Once I actually get the tickets I don’t think I will be able to sleep, it will be too exciting. If it’s anything like that last week in 2017, I will hardly get any sleep at all,” Ms Upjohn said.

Marcus Briggs will be among 200 members of the Geelong cheer squad hoping the Tigers are tamed at the MCG on Friday night.

He said he would keep the week as normal as possible — “until Thursday, then we’ll make a banner. We’ll try and keep it under control (but) then Friday it’s all on.”

I got on at 9:05 and got 5 category 1 tickets no issue. Preparation is the key with ticketek.

Shambles as always with ticketek  :banghead

as a Club XI member we had a priority hold (guaranteed tickets) in a 30 minute window from 9.00am to 9.30am. It got extended by 20 minutes to 9.50am as so many people couldn't get through

We got through but the whole fiasco took close to 25+ minutes.

Two weeks ago for the Gabba via ticketmaster it took the grand sum of 5 minutes. No waiting for a spot to become available, just straight through

In 2019 that is how should be. Every year Ticktek says it will be better than previous years, it never is.

Cannot agree, you can be as prepared as you like but if the website cannot handle the amount of traffic then it's going to be a farce

We were prepared

As always we had 2 of us ready, logged into our accounts with barcodes ready to go. For one of us it to 8 minutes to get a spot, for me it took over 10 minutes.

Then after 8 minutes it took another 10+ minutes for the transaction to go through - sorry that's not good enough in this day and age

I held my spot until I got a confirmation text at 9.26am from my mate to say they had a our tickets....

I’m in Most Na Soci, Slovenia with a pre paid sim and two bars of mobile reception.
I woke at 2.55am and had my tickets by 3.04am.
I 100% agree that preparation is the key :thumbsup

Agree with WP,

I was prepared as I always am.

Two different browsers open, barcodes ready to copy and paste and it took me until 9.20 to get in.

Tried on my phone and ipad while waiting with no luck also.

In saying that I did get good seats so am happy  :gotigers

It is frustrating though.
