We've done well over recent years to invest heavily in drafting youth. As we've talked about in the list analysis thread it's kept our list well-balanced.
It says a lot about Carlton that they've got 6 players 30+ and they've been a bottom 2 side. As much as they are adding early picks like Walsh they will still lose experienced key players in the next couple of years like Murphy and Simpson.
The Pies are going to be hampered by their burgeoning salary cap especially if they re-sign Grundy to a 7 year $$$ contract. They still have DeGoey and co. to re-sign and won't be able replace Pendlebury and Sidebottom with free agents. They rely on too few and lack quality when it counts deep in finals.
The Hawks and Cats are transitioning and still have older players remaining from their successful years they will so retire. The difference though is the Hawks list is in a healthier position with 31 players 18-26. Geelong's list on the other hand is still top heavy as Chris Scott keeps topping up.
North's list is similarly overrating and holding onto their large 27-29 age group which is why they've been in mid-ladder limbo land and will remain there.
