Lets put up a thread...and have all your ideas on how we can secure extra 1st or 2nd or 2rd round draft picks. Try not to go overboard but be creative...these probably wont come to fruition but for example i heard this as an example from a mate of mine recently.
Richmond finish last have pick 1
Port Adelaide finish with pick 4
Fremantle finish with say pick 6
Pavlic heads to Port
Coughlan & Krakouer head to Freo
Richmond gets 4 & 6
stuff like that!
-
If Sydney missed the top 8 were still interested in Razor and we finished 3rd bottom.
Sydney - Hall + pick 19
Richmond - picks 7 + 23
Give us picks say 3, 7, 23.

That would be a win for us!

I would just take 7 if we couldnt get 23. Especially so if a player like Leuenberger may still be around the mark- which he should be.
-
All hypthothetical of course
Couglan and Gaspar to Freo for Polak (who has obvious issues) and a 1st and 2nd rounder (Gives us some height)
Meyer - Adel - late 1st rounder (might be attractive if most of the boom SA recruits this year go top 10)
Krak - to Nth Mebourne - for a 2nd round pick (will only happen if they make the finals)
Roach - to Nth for a 3rd round pick (will only happen if they make the finals)
Schultz to Port Adelaide - for a 1st round pick
That will leave us with 4 first rounders, one priority?, 3 second rounders, and two 3rd rounders.
Nice to have 9 picks (plus the potential of a priority) in the top 40.

Every player besides Deledio is tradable.
But the players that might hold the highest currency that are dispensible are Coughlan and Tuck. Would trade either of them for a first rounder in a heartbeat. We can afford to lose one of them, if not both.
Would trade pettifer for a second rounder
Krak and Rodan won't get anything for - I would delist them at end of contract without hesitation
Would keep Raines - shop Hartigan if any bites take it. If not keep him
Hyde for a second/third rounder - doubt it
Newman and Bowden keep unless first round offers are made
Hall - need for tall backup but would trade for a second rounder - doubt it though
Tivendale - no currency - axe at end of contract
So realistically the only players that might get us something are Cogs (1st rd) Tuck (1st or 2nd rd) Hyde (3rd) Hall (2nd or 3rd) Hartigan (3rd). (Remembr 3rd rounders are still within the top 50). I would trade 3 or 4 of the above 5. Cogs or Tuck would be our best bets to get a first rounder - if offer was made I would take it.
This is where we need to get smarter - like the Hawks. You need to realise a players potential and need to be able to look at their improvement curve. Once they are at the peak of the curve and they are not in the champion status, and depending where you are at as a club (re-building or premiership potential) you need to be able to make the hard call for the long term benefit of the club. Hawthorn did it beautifully with Hay, Thompson and Rawlings.
-
The whole list is tradable in real terms (even Lids).
Lids (just an example kids) would be worth two picks in the top 7 and one would be top 3.
Tambling - 1st round pick
Richo - 2 1st rounders....
Tiv - 3rd round pick
etc...........etc............
The RFC should approach every trade period with a 'make us an offer' attitude. Every club should be made aware that any RFC player is available for the right price. Nobody is untouchable.
However some players won't fetch the price they are worth to the RFC and us as supporters so they will not be traded.
-
Has anyone got any examples of where a club says "Here you go- you can have anyone" and have consequently successfully rebuilt their club?
Freo pretty much did that, and they still sucked.
-
Bump ;D
-
Bump. So Punt Road Roar, do you think any are still possible?
-
Very tough ask I reckon to get an early pick.
-
Unless Laidley and North do something stupid for the third year in a row or go for a quick fix because they literally can't afford to finish bottom 4 again then pick 8 will be our first pick. Best result seems to be trying to trade for another early 2nd rounder (late teens to mid 20s).
-
The entire Richmond team and pick 8 for the West Coast Eagles team.
I think dangling the pick 8 carrot in front of West Coast will sway them.
