The "fantastic" Richmond role model who inspired Deledio

Former No.1 draft pick Brett Deledio says Mark Coughlan was a “fantastic role model” during his early years at Richmond.

Coughlan was a prolific ball winner who took out the Tigers’ best and fairest in 2003, before a spate of injuries decimated his career.

The midfielder was delisted in 2009, restricted to just 92 games in nine seasons at Punt Road.

“Cogs, he was a fantastic role model for me,” Deledio told Off The Bench.

“I learnt so much from him in my first two years that I was there.

“I modelled my body and physique off him because he was one fine specimen that bloke.”

Yep, Cogs was a fan favourite. About our only young player in the early 00s under Spud that looked like becoming an A-grader. Sadly, OP and then the ACL wrecked Cogs' career  :(.
