Who should be on Richmond's Mount Rushmore?
By SEN
5 June 2020
Bob Murphy and Andy Maher have named their ‘Mount Rushmore’ for Richmond.
For those unaware, they are ranking the top four people (players, coaches or others) who symbolise the heart, soul and the spirit, those who have ignited the imagination and enhanced the foundation of the clubs they have represented – in Andy’s words. The four people who tell the story of the football club - in Bob's words.
They're not necessarily just the four best players the club has ever had.
Murphy and Maher put out a poll to determine the final member, having agreed on the first three.
SEN Drive’s Richmond Mount Rushmore: Kevin Bartlett, Jack Dyer, Tom Hafey and Matthew Richardson
Bartlett played 403 VFL games for the Tigers and was a part of five premiership sides.
Hafey coached the side to four premierships in 10 years between 1966 and 1976.
Dyer played 312 VFL games for Richmond, kicking 443 goals and winning six best and fairests before also coaching the team to a flag.
Richardson played 282 games and booted 800 goals for the Tigers.

Gold. Is that the anti Rushmore? Maybe that's statues you place around the sewer ponds at Weribee.
-
I'd build it as a cautionary tale...along with statues of John Pitura & Greg Miller holding a video cassette ... :shh

I think that whilst Ian Wilson made some mistakes the fact he won premierships mean he doesnt deserve that criticism. He was a great contributor to our club and ran the club whilst the club had big personalities like GR who had to big if an influence. We cant say GR was a great administrator and then say Wilson was no good. Wilson is a Premiership President who deserves our respect. My opinion only.

Royce Hart says hi!
The four for mine would be Dyer, Hart, KB & (if we're looking for our founder equivalent to a George Washington) George Bennett who was club president from 1887-1908 and saw us win two VFA flags and admittance into the VFL.

Couldn’t agree more
Royce Hart would be a certainty
