Title: Team selection strategy during compressed fixture?
Post by: one-eyed on July 23, 2020, 03:46:29 AM
Borrowing this from Ross Lyon.

Which team selection option should we go with during this compressed fixture period?

1. Slightly weakened team each round rotating our stars.

2. Pick one game to rest all our stars. Preserve them for the other matches.

3. Play best available in every game and just take the high risk vs high reward strategy.

Go hard and play the best team based on form, availability and injuries.
Games only go for 80 minutes so they should be able to recover quickly if they are not training mid week.

Given our lengthy injury list we won't get much choice. Probably only rest Dusty, Grimes and Jack.

The Port game is going to be the toughest travelling with only a 4 day break.

Can't understand why the AFL don't just extend the bench...obviously makes far too much sense for the incompetent boobs...... :shh

Play the best team. Rest the tired/sore blokes as required.

I agree but more on the grounds that fringe players have less exposure due to less games this year.

AFL will argue that teams should slow down to avoid injury etc. Pffft
