AFL Round 12
RICHMOND vs Gold Coast
Monday, 17th August @ the 'Gabba.
Start time: 7.10pm
-
8 point game! :rollin
-
No excuses
-
SHould belt them up
-
No excuses as the Suns will only have a 5-day break, but Jack said Sunday & Monday were a write off for us as we had to remain in Adelaide to catch the same plane as Melbourne and didn't get back to our Qld hub until 3-4am Monday morning.

RICHMOND v GOLD COAST SUNS (Andrew Raines Cup)
Monday August 17, 7.10pm at the Gabba
How to watch on Fox Footy: Channel 504 from 7pm, with Anthony Hudson, Jason Dunstall, Jordan Lewis and Alastair Lynch (followed by On The Couch with Gerard Healy, Jonathan Brown, Nick Riewoldt, Garry Lyon and Tom Morris).
Tigers’ burning question: Is there too much emphasis on quality over quantity?
The Tigers have always been a quality-over-quantity team, but the lack of quantity across the board against the Power was alarming. They had just 24 inside 50s, while they also lost the contested possession (-43) and clearance (-18) counts comprehensively. They haven’t been a strong contested ball and clearance team in recent years, but they’ve been a stronger territory team than what they have been in 2020 so far. Saints great Leigh Montagna has concerns, telling First Crack the Tigers “have been much more inconsistent than they have been in their premiership years”. Monday night’s game gives the Tigers the perfect opportunity to bounce back after a nine-day break.
Suns’ burning question: Are they ready for the Richmond test?
The timing isn’t ideal for the Suns here. Not only do the Tigers have an extra four days to prepare for the game, they’ll be hungry to avenge that loss to Power. But if the Suns have truly improved this season, this is the kind of game against this kind of opposition where they can prove they’ve taken crucial steps. Three of their past four games have been thrillers, with two of those resulting in losses and one draw. If this clash goes down to the wire against, all eyes will be on how the Suns handle the closing stages, particularly against a battle-hardened side in Richmond.
Fox Footy expert tipsters’ verdict: Richmond 10 — Gold Coast Suns 1

SHould belt them up
The Suns are a more competitive team this year so they won't be pushovers and we can't afford another poor hiding in centre clearances. We need to bring the intensity and start well unlike last week and just focus on getting the win.
-
CROWDS IN QUEENSLAND
There is still a limited number of tickets available to purchase via Ticketmaster
Gates will open from 5.30pm.

From Barrett's Sliding Doors column:
IF ... the Tigers' best is still competition best ...
THEN ... the premiership defence remains on track. But in the now looming logjam near the top of the ladder, couldn't afford a slip-up against the Suns on Monday night.
https://www.afl.com.au/news/485111/sliding-doors-if-the-blues-are-to-be-honest-with-themselves-then
-
Win and we’ll be in the logjam for top4. Lose and we’ll be in the logjam for top8.
-
Get the 4 pts and cannot take Sun's lightly we need to control the game. Our smalls been poor this season we need them to click if not kicking goals atleast pressure which has been missing.Carrying a few to many weekly.
-
We will give them a proper fisting I'm sure.
And I like GCS...they are decent this year. Nothing on us though.
-
Wouldn’t want to come out sleeping this game.
Expecting big games from Lambert Dusty and Lynch.
-
No late changes. Teams as selected.
-
Hopefully we've worked on our clearances after last week.
-
Got the 1st clearance
Bolton misses everything with a who knows what sort of kick
-
JACK uncontested
Gets the 1st
-
Graham to Lambo to Lynch. Kick falls short but Jack marks & goals.
6 - 0
-
Wasting all these in50s.
-
Jack misses.
7 - 0
in50s: 8 - 0
-
Grrr! Dumb off the ball frees that cost us a shot on goal should be nappy duties as well.
-
Stupid by Kam :banghead
Same as every week we gift the sun's their first goal
-
Punished for wasting in50s :banghead
7 all.
-
Broady needs a rest
-
Can one of our forwards give a hard lead to drag a few defenders away from the goal square???
-
We look flat again
And cannot hit a target
-
Can we lower our eyes in50 and stop being predictable bombing it to our talls.
-
Goal to Marbs
-
Chol goal. Jack unselfish.
13 - 7
-
Lambo to Kmac. OOTF :P
-
We should be 4 goals up given all these forward entries :banghead
-
Wasteful 1st quarter
Disgraceful they were allowed to get that goal :banghead
Hope Dimma gives then an almighty spray
-
This is the opposite of last week.
13 all.
-
1/4 time
Richmond 2.1-13
Gold Coast 2.1-13

-
Unacceptable really.
If we are serious we win this by 10 goals.
Absolutely rubbish.
6 Marks inside 50 - (17 to 4entries)
-
Bolton our best. Markov doing better than expected.
Last week we were super efficient in50 but couldn't get it out the middle. Tonight is the opposite.
in50s: 17 - 4
we're going at 18% scoring eff. to their 75%.
-
Poor by Balta
Lucky King missed
-
They are scoring nearly every time they go forward :banghead
-
Pickett panicked then
Keep dishing this crap up we will be in trouble
-
That was disgraceful
Pathetic turnover
Gift them another one :banghead
-
Soft! They are working harder.
-
Dusty seems disinterested
-
Dusty seems disinterested
He’s not even trying.
He’s getting thrashed currently.
-
This is just crap by us.
-
This is just crap by us.
It's embarassing
-
Smashed in clearances this qtr.
-
Smashed in clearances this qtr.

-
This is very hard to watch
-
Well at least we scored
-
Jack miss
14 - 22
-
Castagna its time to go..
-
Seriously, foot of the pack
Basics
-
We're in big trouble here. Playing into their hands kicking long down the line. Our inside 50s are again a disgrace
-
We get it to HF & stuff up the next kick :banghead
-
Getting schooled by a bunch of kids.
-
We've had some poor quarters this season
But that was abysmal
It's just embarrassing
-
We give away so many off the ball frees.... :banghead
-
Worst game since Hunt kicked one after the siren, getting pantsed by kids. Why the stuff does Graham get a game? He is worse than useless
-
picked it within the first 5 minutes.
worst half all year for mine. 8 day break vrs 5 and you dish up that rubbish
not good enough
-
1/2 time
Richmond 2.1 2.2-14
Gold Coast 2.1 3.6-24
Goals: Jack, Chol
-
Woeful. soft, panicky crap....:thumbsdown
At this stage Bolton the only indigenous player who deserves a Dreamtime gig... :shh
-
Woeful. soft, panicky crap....:thumbsdown
At this stage Bolton the only indigenous player who deserves a Dreamtime gig... :shh
Thought Pickett and Stack very lucky to survive last week.
-
Lukosius & Anderson absolutely murdering us.
-
We don’t deserve top 4.
If we keep playing this standard it will be a Cats v Eagles grand final.
Even the Dees are playing better than us currently which shows how bad we are.
-
Playing like we thought we just had to turn up to win and now can't flick the switch.
Worst and softest 'effort' since the Hawks game. Pathetic!
Dimma needs to blast them.
-
Oh and like I've been saying all year - STICK THE stuffing TACKLES AND STOP THE stuffing HANDBALLS FFFS! >:(
-
1 point in a quarter of footy. :banghead
-

We keep playing this standard we won't even make the 8
I'm serious if we keep playing like this you'd be lucky to win another game
-
Not working hard enough simple as that gez our smalls need a dressing down really bad Sun's want it more.A bunch of kids we're playing that's not acceptable need a big spray. Our problem we a carrying to many passengers fullstop senior players and young ones been happening all year.
-
Lukosius & Anderson absolutely murdering us.
Graham is tagging Anderson and getting flogged. Hardwick really is a idiot for bringing him back
-
We seem to be just coasting along thinking it's just going to happen
-
We don’t have any run out of the backline and haven’t for ages. As soon as we play a team that can out mar us down the line we are in trouble. I can’t believe I’m saying this BUT we really miss Houli’s run and ability to break the line. Guys like Vlas and Grimes used to find some ball up field but it seems they are anchored in the 50 most of the game. Same with Broad.
-
Anderson 12 possessions in the second quarter :banghead
-
Small forwards MIA.
Dumb Pickett. Undisciplined
-
Pickett should not play again this year after that effort on Ellis
-
OGorman is a cheating ducking idiot
-
We're done here.
-
Small forwards MIA.
Dumb Pickett. Undisciplined
have a look at pickett standing the mark MT
was i missing something or did pickett not even have his hands up?
-
Bolton long and Jack marks. Goal.
20 - 26
-
You may be right Frankie.
-
Our kicking tonight :banghead
-
Have we had a stoppage in our F50? Giving them the clearances
-
George you've got make the distance from there.
Jack to Lynch goal.
26 all.
-
If Castagna plays next week sack Hardwick Deadset.
-
Can thank Jack for the comeback.
Out of centre. Pickett goal. In front.
32 - 26
-
How we are in front beggars belief
And we'll done Kam Macintosh, his 2nd and 3rd efforts that qtr were excellent
Can't say the same About a few of his bigger name team mates
-
3/4 time
Richmond 2.1 2.2 5.2-32
Gold Coast 2.1 3.6 3.8-26
Goals: Jack 2, Lynch 2, Pickett.
-
How we are in front beggars belief
We’ve had 12 more inside 50s.
Not that surprising really.
-
Suns kept us in it kicking points before our late burst that qtr. Jack lead the way. Been involved in 4 of our 5 goals. Seemed to lift the intensity of the whole side.
-
How we are in front beggars belief
We’ve had 12 more inside 50s.
Not that surprising really.
For 2 goals ;D
And 2 horrible misses by the Suns
-
Important point
-
Pickett point

Gold Coast 2.1 3.6 3.8 4.8-32

-
Markov cannot be dropped after that. He was superb.
-
Markov cannot be dropped after that. He was superb.
Agree
And KMac was very good too
-
Ugly game.
Markov very good, clean, quick and had a real go. Instant upgrade on DES.
Cotch, Jack, KMac, Vlas, Balta.
Stack and Rioli looked a bit better too.
-
Markov cannot be dropped after that. He was superb.
Agree
And KMac was very good too
Both were in our best. Markov can play at the level, just needs a bank of games without injury :shh
-
Take the 4 points and move on. In the end did what we had to do despite 2.5 rubbish qtrs including losing clearances badly in the 2nd qtr and wasting a 54 - 29 in50 dominance. Plenty of things to fix up.
-
Stack and Rioli looked a bit better too.
Thought Rioli was better but Stack not so good
-
Jack, Kmac, Cotch, Balta, Floss, Markov in the bests IMV.
-
Professional win but a few poor games by some. Maybe these guys need a spell with rotation:
We saw the worst of Chol tonight. When he doesn't impact in the air he is basically useless. Just didn't impact any contests and was pushed aside way to easily by slim defenders. Might be spent;
George has been poor for a bank of games and needs a spell; and
Soldo was very average again i thought.
Loved:
Cotchin, McIntosh, Markov, Balta, Bolton, Rioli, and solid games from Graham, Stack, Pickett and the defensive unit as a whole.
Move on to Dream Time :thumbsup
-
Lots of passengers again. Some are young and will have up and down games but there are a couple who were just awful.
Stack, Costania, Chol all had shockers. Lambert got a lot of it but turned it over far to much.
McIntosh, Cotchin. Vlastin, Markov were the best.
-
Stack and Rioli looked a bit better too.
Thought Rioli was better but Stack not so good
Stack is building his tank during games. Playing around the ball and providing pressure until he can use his strengths to burst out of stoppage, similar to Bolton. He is playing his role at the moment. Could see him play forward if they drop George.
-
Jack copped it from all corners this season but without him we don’t win this game. Wasn’t just his goals but he was one of the very few bailing us out with contested pack marks when we bombed it down the line.
Kmac one of the best and iv got to say markov has been impressive in both his games this year. Would like to see him play wing with Houli coming back this week.
-
Yes- Jack was good tonight.
-
that was putrid.
pickett, whislt not one of the worst has a real habit of doing stupid things, one handed tackles, not manning the mark as he should.
as a whole tonight is rubbish. we need titch and houli back asap. Soldo is cooked
-
Stack and Rioli looked a bit better too.
Thought Rioli was better but Stack not so good
What is with Stacky's kicking? It's a weakness making him tentative

BANG
A lot of short memory twats bagged the crap out of him but like true champions when he was needed he produced the goods
-
I thought he was cooked. Even the last two games before GCS he got a few cheap goals.
Last night he looked the best he's been all year. Quicker, leaping and taking shots confidently. This is the player we need him to be.
End isn't far but I hope he can play like this into 2021.
