Brendon Gale statement
RFC
August 20, 2020
Richmond Football Club CEO Brendon Gale today made the following statement:
“Richmond – like all other Clubs and the broader AFL industry – has been confronted by unprecedented financial challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Thanks to the magnificent support of our members and sponsors, we have been able to stabilise our financial position in the short-term, but these challenges will extend into next year and potentially beyond.
“As a result of the current situation, we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to make a number of administration staff redundant. These are all wonderful people and the situation they find themselves in, is no fault of their own.
“These staff have helped build our Club to a position of strength, and we thank each and every one of them. They have been a part of our Premiership successes and we hope they look back on the role they played in delivering our fans such joy, with great pride.
“Unfortunately these measures are simply unavoidable as we look to stabilise the Club in the short-to-mid term. We have a responsibility to deliver our members a strong and sustainable football Club and in times like this, that unfortunately means making some very difficult decisions.”

Flea was let go today, his work with Club80 and all other supporter group including those interstate connected 1000's to the club, will be sorely missed
-
That's a joke letting go of Flea surely there could have been a solution the guy worked for the club tirelessly through thick and thin people like that hard to come along.
-
Seems no one is immune. Not even Legends.
-
What of the Talking Tigers 3some? Any news?
-
A very sad day.
So many great people at our Club and a number have been let to go, just so devastating for them
My heartfelt thanks go to every one of them for all their hard work durong their time at the Club
Just gutted :'(

2021 is going to fiscally tough I gathered from the interview.

Huge financial losses coming up I reckon.

Huge financial losses coming up I reckon.
No, I don't think so.
These redundancies are so the Club doesn't make a massive loss.
I listened to Penny's interview on SEN yesterday Club is navigating through this.
My gut feel after listening to her, is break even or small loss with no handout from the AFL
what about guiseppe WP?
any news.
Seppe is up in QLD Frankie.
Today's job losses were all in Admin, not in the footy dept

They've held off the redundancies for as long possible I feel.
It's a moving feast, unless there is crowds next year it might be fiscally challenging.
As it will be for the whole competition.

Reckon you are right.
I think this year the damage has been mitigated to a degree because the season has gone ahead.
The real challenge IMV is next year because right now that is the great unknown. People have not asked for refunds on membership but as Peggy said on SEN Wednesday and she actually said some people may not be able to that again
Also, think there will be more changes (restructuring) once the final info comes through about list sizes, Salary Cap, Footy Dept Soft Cap etc
I would think one of the most pressing thing the club (any club for that matter) is lock away sponsors for 2021 and beyond

Yep Sponsors mighty important.
Let's hope we have great relations with our current ones.
Mind you this virus and compound effect all the way done is huge.
Going by her interview the clubs are wanting some clarification for next year, so they can at least look at budget models.
Trying times I feel.

Surely the club has Jobkeeper for all these people?
-
Surely the club has Jobkeeper for all these people?
I think it does.... (not 100% sure)
But even it does
AFL distributions are going to be down, so that is a hit to revenues
Doesn't hide the fact all Clubs have been told by HQ that club's must slash costs
That is why the Club is in part are doing this
And as Benny said Club has worked far to hard to get us out of debt, build the Club to incredibly strong financial position. Not sure the majority of members want the Club going back into debt asking for AFL handouts
-
We'd also have casual employees that aren't 12-month permanents at the club and wouldn't be eligible for jobkeeper.
