We've had a few days to let it all sink in, so time for a poll on it.
What is everyone's opinion of a Night GF and should it remain from now on at night when the Granny returns to the M.C.G.?

While I'll agree that the night time slot worked well for the musicians & lighting effects, any decisions should be entirely football based. An important game like the grand final should only ever be played during the day! Dew fall around sunset changes the conditions & not for the better, its unacceptable to expect the players to change their game to suit the timeslot. Conditions changing naturally (rain falling after half time) is something all players have had to accept since the 1850's, but we should never enforce changing the conditions & the game just to suit a few musicians! ::)

Twilight. Pretty obvious

Agreed. Best of both worlds.

I love the traditional time slot. Mainly because I love having the rest of the night to go out and talk smack about the GF over drinks and pizza!
-
Arvo or twilight.
Night too slippery. Scrappy games...
-
Arvo for me
Saturday proved the day just dragged on as we waited
-
I heard the entertainment is better at night but IDGAF to be honest. It's always a drag before the game and at half time. Just gimme my football ....
-
Exactly - we're not stuffin' Seppos - Aussies watch footy for the actual game...breaks are for talking/banter, grabbing a feed and/or a drink and going to the dunny...... :shh

During the 35 years in the wilderness I always said I didn't care if the GF was 2am if the Tiges are in it. Haven't changed my opinion even with our success in recent years. I was too pumped after this year's win to sleep anyway.
From the AFL's (and sponsors & TV execs) perspective $$$ will talk, so I don't see it going back to the traditional day GF given the ratings. They may push the start back an hour or so so that the cup and medal presentation isn't after 10pm.

The ratings were highly skewed given everyone in Victoria was in lockdown. You’ve gotta factor in that each individual household was watching whereas in a normal year there would be family/friend gatherings, people watching at bars/restaurants/functions not to mention the 100k that would be at the G.
Personally I didn’t like all the waiting around but in saying that if we wernt in lockdown it would make it a lot easier. Still think the day time slot has more positives both for the public and the players.

Afternoon. Much better for families particularly with young children. Also night games really effect players in a bad way.
-
They should start the game at maybe 5.40pm so start in the day finish at night where they can do the fireworks. Petsonally i like day grand finals.
-
Apparently my step son watched the whole game at his dad's (I have converted him from a Pie).
Don't mind, but after 10pm for a 6 y/o is very late for bed.
Afternoon is better. Twilight if they insist on it getting dark for some lame reason.

💯 % Day

Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox has urged the AFL to return to a daytime grand final in 2021.
Although this year’s game marked the historic introduction of the long-touted night setting, Fox said the league should consider reverting back to the original afternoon start time.
“The day slot is really special, we don’t need to copy other sports. I don’t subscribe to the thought it’s about lights and entertainment, I think people just love our game so much,” he said on SEN’s Whateley.
“If we can focus on that more than the bells and whistles and bands, that’s why our game is so special. The tradition of starting off with breakfast and then lunch and getting our families home at a responsible time, I think they’re the positives of the game and that’s why our game has been so special.
“That’s a personal opinion - the G’ is just happy to have it and if the AFL schedule it at night we’re there to host it and wouldn’t want it anywhere else.”

AFL review to determine whether the night Grand Final stays — but Gill says the first was ‘incredible’.
