Title: Richmond discussion on SEN this morning

What brings great clubs down?

Gerard Whateley: “Richmond is on alert for this. This is Damien Hardwick’s study, he’s spoken about it a couple of times. He has been studying worldwide what brings great teams down.”

David King: “In the end, the great teams bring themselves down. Denis Pagan always said the hardest team to coach is a team that has had success because they have all the answers. They become better players in their own mind, they don’t want to listen to advice. They don’t want to be challenged. This (Richmond) group loves being challenged. Their system is so good, it’s not offence and then defence, it’s everything complimentary, the way they attack comes off the way they defend, the way they defend comes off the way they attack. It’s beautiful to watch. There isn’t a team that’s been able to handle that. That won’t change. The new rules suit them. Fast teams are going to go faster. I think if Richmond are 10/10 or 9/10 again this season, it’ll be theirs.”

Gerard Whateley: “I don’t think three (flags) is the end of their story. I said that at the end of last year and I still believe that.”

Gotta love these journos.

All in on us in pre-season.  Watch us start the year off slowish, dropping some games here and there.  They jump off quick, saying our time us up, our players are ageing, no depth, too many kebabs etc.  Meanwhile Port and Lions are killing sides at home, they look a million bucks.  Tiges scrape into Top 4 on the back of winning the last 6 games in a row. Journos now saying don't discount them, they've done it before.  When we raise the cup they are all back to saying this team's not done yet etc.
