A story of connection and growth headline Richmond’s Dreamtime jumper for the 16th annual Dreamtime at the 'G match against Essendon in Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
Designed by the Club’s Korin Gamadji Institute Program Lead, Michelle Kerrin (Arrernte/Luritja) in conjunction with Shane Edwards (Arrernte) and Jack Riewoldt, the jumper tells the players’ story since arriving at Richmond together in November 2006.
The famous yellow sash has been transformed into a gum leaf, symbolising a pre-game ritual Riewoldt picked up in his early Dreamtime games where he would place the leaf handed to him by Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Joy Murphy into his sock.
The leaf sash is split into two sides, with the white side representing Jack’s story throughout his time at the Club and his learnings of Indigenous communities.
The orange/brown side represents Shane’s journey, not only within the Club but within his own identity. It starts with the rain of a heavy head and clears with the sun coming out, depicting the clarity of learning more about his indigeneity.

WA media want to show off Dreamtime as their wannabee GF.
Why WA would nail ‘Dreamtime at the P’ if the AFL moves Richmond v Essendon west
West Australian
28 May 2021
On this week’s episode of The Duff and Quarters Podcast chief footy writer at the West Australian Mark Duffield, The Sunday Times sports editor Glen Quartermain and Channel 7 journalist Mark Readings urged WA footy fans to get behind the potentially historic relocation.
“Let’s show the rest of Australia what a grand final would have looked like here,” Quartermain said.
“Two very big supporter bases in WA, Essendon and Richmond, let’s actually show the AFL, and the WA government what (WA footy followers) could have done with last year’s grand final. Let’s light up that precinct and show them what we’ve got, which is considerable.”
Optus Stadium was snubbed for Brisbane’s Gabba for the 2020 grand final, after Queensland’s significant contribution in allowing last year’s season to proceed.
Optus would be a fitting replacement for the MCG as WA has produced some of the greatest Indigenous names to have ever graced the footy field, including hall of fame inductees Polly Farmer and Barry Cable.
Former St Kilda great and Pingelly product Nicky Winmar’s courageous stance against racism while playing with St Kilda against Collingwood in 1993 was immortalised in 2019 on the venue grounds.
“I think that’s a really exciting development for Western Australia and I hope that Western Australians get right behind that match,” Duffield replied.
“The things we could do with that match with our stadium and with the roof lit up in Indigenous colours and that sort of thing.”
“With all due respect to the footy we had last year, this is the biggest occasion we could get in WA outside of a final,” Readings said.
“Get Stephen Michael, get Nicky Winmar, get Barry Cable, get Peter Matera, the Indigenous heritage we’ve got here is incredible, let’s make something of this that has a WA flavour to it.”
WA has also enjoyed a return to near pre-COVID crowds this season compared to Melbourne numbers which have struggled recentl,y with the AFL unable to pinpoint the direct cause for the trend.
The reigning premier’s match versus the GWS Giants in round nine amassed only 18,798 fans, far short to their 2019 average of 41,682 (3rd in AFL).
While Collingwood v Port Adelaide at the MCG in round 10 only managed 23,415 punters, a club that averaged 50,812 footy-goers in 2019 (1st in AFL).
Optus Stadium has a maximum capacity of 60,000 spectators, with potential for a sellout at the venue with strong supporter bases for both Essendon and Richmond in WA.

Ummm
The main reason eason Optus Stadium was "snubbed" (their words) and idd not host the GF was because of their government's strict border closures last year.
To suggest otherwise is ridiculous
-
Hardwick said he was still unsure what the coming days would hold, with the club’s showpiece Dreamtime at the G game against Essendon scheduled to take place in Melbourne next Saturday night.
“We don’t (know what’s happening in Round 12) at this stage,” he said.
“We have our bags packed and the expectation is we could be anywhere. Once again we’ll deal with what we know right now and that’s playing Adelaide on Sunday.
“We’ll worry about that when the AFL come back to us, possibly on Sunday night.”

Probably play Hugo somewhere he has no idea like back pocket then drop him for Rioli.

I like the hand prints on the back of the jumper, it proves we were pushed in the back! :whistle

Tom Browne (yeah I know) said on 7news tonight that Dreamtime will be at an empty or near-empty MCG or else in Perth in front of a full house.

Tom Browne (yeah I know) said on 7news tonight that Dreamtime will be at an empty or near-empty MCG or else in Perth in front of a full house.
Seeing Tommy said they will be announcing round 12 either tomorrow night or Monday think it all but guarantees it will be in Perth :banghead :banghead
Gil and his merry men and women won't one of the marquee games of the season played in front fo empty stands
-
Play it in Perth. Stay there and play the eagles week after then have the bye. Bombers already there. Makes so much sense
-
This is going to be a very difficult game for us.
-
Essendon are playing a high press. When it works they can get on a roll but when it doesn't they can also concede a stack of goals. That's why their games this year have had huge momentum swings. We first have to get past Adelaide but next week it's about winning the contested footy (hopefully we now can with most of our A-grade mids back) and bringing the pressure for all 4 quarters. Rutten is trying to have the Bombers play like us with that surge footy. Being more experienced at it we should be better at it but only if we the contested footy and bring the pressure.
-
Jon Ralph on Fox Footy said Dreamtime will be in Perth. Essendon will remain over there and we'll fly there after the game tomorrow.
-
Barrett saying at this stage the Dreamtime game will be in Perth.
-
Gives Don's the edge, already being there and had a game.
Otherwise good venue. Strong indigenous heritage and a fair few of our boys from that part of the world.
-
Snelling on the Sunday Footy Show said Essendon has been told the Dreamtime game is likely to be in Perth but it's not been confirmed.
Yeah, it does give the Bombers the advantage but hopefully we finally start getting a bit of luck injury wise :pray so we're not two man down and off our feet in the last quarter like the Eagles were last night.
-
Dimma confirmed post-game we're playing the Dreamtime game in Perth.
Mark Stevens on 7news said "it's a lock".
-
Confirmed on the AFL website as well.
FOR the second consecutive season, COVID-19 has forced the AFL's Essendon-Richmond Dreamtime game away from the MCG, with the 2021 edition to be played next Saturday night at Perth's Optus Stadium.

Essendon is ninth on the ladder with a bullet. Here’s why Richmond — and the rest of the top eight — should be nervous.
David King and Daniel Hoyne
HeraldSun
June 1, 2021 - 3:58PM
Currently sitting ninth with a 5-6 record, Essendon faces eighth-placed Richmond (6-5) in a blockbuster Dreamtime clash on Saturday night.
Speaking on Pure Footy, Champion Data analyst Daniel Hoyne said Essendon was producing finals-like numbers over the past month in wins against West Coast, North Melbourne and Fremantle and a two-point loss to the Giants.
He said the Bombers ranked fourth in the AFL for loose ball gets over the past month while an overall 15th ranking for contested possessions was misleading.
“A lot of their ruckwork is contributing to that, their free kicks are contributing to that, if you take that out and just look at what they’re doing when the ball is on the deck, they are actually the sixth-best ground ball team in the competition.
“Their profile over the last month, if it continues for the next 11 matches, they are going to be in it right up to the eyeballs in terms of playing finals this year.”
Essendon's strike rate past 4 weeks:
Stoppages: 2nd in the AFL.
Turnovers: 4th in the AFL.

They've played Collingwood, Carlton, Giants, Dockers, North and a very underwhelming West Coast in the last 6 weeks. Not exactly a tough draw, and they dropped the game against Giants. If we bring our 'A' pressure game, we should win comfortably. Famous last words :rollin

Apparently this is what Optus Stadium is going to look like on Saturday night:

Essendon fans on bomberblitz mocking our season so far and saying they will beat us because the game is in Perth:
R1 Home Win F*** Carlton 25 pts Meh
R2 Away Win Dawks 29 pts Double Meh
R3 Home Loss Sydney 45 pts True colours starting to show
R4 Away Loss Pot Adelaide 2 pts Honorable
R5 Away Win St. Kilda 86 pts Proper win
R6 Away Loss Melbourne 34 pts Still have not beaten a reasonably good side
R7 Home Win Bulldogs 22 pts Now they have
R8 Home Loss Cats 63 pts Previous week was stuff to uncertainty
R9 Home Win Giants 4 pts Lucky
R10 Away Loss Lions 28 pts More confirmation they can’t beat a good team
R11 Home Win Crows 28 pts Meh again
R12 Away Bombers
If we play the way we have been playing and put ourselves into the good team category (which I think we are) then we can beat these pussies at Optus Oval.

Most Eagles fans seem to hate us out of jealously for winning 3 of the last 4 flags. So I wouldn't be counting on neutral support for us. Hopefully plenty of WA-based Tiger fans turn up and make plenty of noise :thumbsup.

Essendon's midfield has stood up in the past couple of months, but is it enough to match the class of Richmond's on-ball brigade?
Ross Lyon and @matthewlloyd18 preview the match ups. #9FootyClassified
Watch: https://twitter.com/FootyonNine/status/1400065779958177794
These are their midfield match-ups:
Phillips - Chol
Merrett - Cotchin
Parish - Martin
Zaharakis - Graham
McGrath - Prestia
Cox - Bolton
Langford - McIntosh
-
Might be tough
-
From the Essendon games I've seen, we need to watch out for:
- Parish in the middle who is their main clearance winner. Graham can 'tag' him.
- Laverde has been their main interceptor and rebounder in defence along with Heppell across half-back. Laverde will need to match-up on either Jack, Dusty or Bolts. Whoever it is just needs to push deep.
- We've coughed up a few soft goals from D50 stoppages this year :facepalm. Hooker continually tries to gain front position and grab the ball out of the ruck to snap at goal as he did against the Eagles. Something our rucks or Balta need to be aware of.
- Tippa has scored 18 goals in their last 6 games. He's a bit of a barometer for them. Keep him quiet and they normally lose. So that job goes to Baker or Floss.
I presume Grimes will get Stringer.

Essendon v Richmond
Kingy says: “I'm going to go with Richmond but I'm very nervous about the Essendon stoppage game.
“I'm not confident about it but I've got too much faith in what they've done.”
Kingy’s pick: Richmond at the line (-10.5).
Sammy says: “I'm going Richmond too. I'm just not sure if they'll win by more than 10.5.
“It might break open a little bit late.”
Sammy’s pick: Richmond at the line (-10.5).

-
Chol straight out of the middle but Bolts can't get to it before is goes for a point.

Why wasn't that 50 to Jack? You can't hold someone after a mark.
Prestia misses his snap.
2 - 0
Got to take our chances.

Bolton long and CCJ held in the goalsquare. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 1.2-8

That pass by Dusty to CCJ :o.
Not sure why CCJ didn't take the shot. Dusty's next kick is sprayed :P.

Chol is BOG so far :o. Finds Dusty 30 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 2.2-14

McGrath has limped off for the Bombers.
-
Half asleep there Tiges. Lucky they miss.
14 - 1

That's HTB. Bomber defender tried to evade before the tackle. Similar to Aarts' one.
-
Schoolboy turnovers :banghead.
Bloody gift to them :banghead.
14 - 7

That Bimbers kick we 8 meters
-
Some of our blokes need to realise we're wearing black & yellow :P.
Finally we hit targets. Short to Pickett to jack in the pocket. Misses.

Good kick in board by Floss. Sheds hits up George 35 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 3.3-21
Ess 1.1-7
Hopefully that goal is the start of George returning to some form.
-
Poor old scotch looks like he is running around in circles.
-
So you can tackle someone without the ball?
-
We're our worst enemy tonight. Butchering good chances.

Quarter time
Richmond 4.3-27
Essendon 1.2-8
Goals: Riewoldt, Coleman-Jones, Castagna, Martin.
We outplayed the Bombers that quarter. However, missing open targets cost us a greater lead rather than anything Essendon did.

Prestia showing how much we had missed him this year.

Jack trickles a shot along the ground from the pocket but it's just touched on the line.

Seen enough with CCJ. SIGN 3 YEARS ASAP.

Seen enough, time for Bachar to binthecodea of playing on in 2022. Retire
-
Stupid Tiges on the wing :banghead.
Lucky they missed on the turnover.
34 - 15
-
Stop kicking it to bloody red jumpers :banghead.
-
Georgie has started well
-
Great tackle Aarts.
That first possession should have been a kick Bachar. Had an open man inside 50 for the kick not a handball.
Bachar gets it back and does hit up Jack 35 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 6.5-41
Ess 2.3-15

Pickett getting a bath from young Cox.

Graham back pass to Aarts 40 out. Misses.

A terrible 50 given away by Jack
No excuses for it :banghead
-
So the umps don't pay two clear 50s in the first qtr (one each way) and now pay one. All we ask for is consistency ::).
Bombers get a goal out of it.
42 - 21

What was that first decision Cads? :huh3. You had an open goal.
He gets it back and kicks it anyway :gotigers.
Rich 7.6-48
Ess 3.3-21

How many obvious frees are going unpaid... for both sides.
We’ve got some match up issues down back.
-
Very poor by
First Dusty should have been pinged, ditto Cotch
Then Chol, had to make that contest, he basically stopped and watched = disgusting
-
Another dumb turnover on the wing gifts them a goal :banghead.
48 - 27
Every goal they've got has been from our dumb mistakes :banghead.
-
Can thank Floss in D50 for saving the day and Aarts' desperation in F50 for that goal to Graham :gotigers.
Surge footy goal.
Rich 8.6-54
Ess 4.3-27

Well done by Aarts then to keep that contest alive and give it off to Graham.

Another kick inside 50 straight to a Bomber :facepalm.
Thankfully Baker intercepts the kick out and CCJ is held 35 out. Misses.

Poor by Bolton there.

Umpiring absolutely on song again this week
No consistency at all
-
Letting them back in the game just before half-time :banghead.
Lucky they missed.

Can we pin the arm in the tackle Tiges?
-
Being outworked in the last 5 mins. Bombers getting more numbers to the contests and fall of the ball. Need a rocket from Dimma.
-
At times we've been great
Other times we've gifted them goals
We should be further ahead
-
Half-time
Richmond 4.3 8.7-55
Essendon 1.2 5.4-34
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Coleman-Jones 2, Caddy, Castagna, Graham, Martin.
Frustrating game. Our dumb mistakes and skill errors keeping the Bombers in it by gifting them turnover goals. Then add our intensity dropping off in the last 5 mins. They were more desperate.
-
Keeping them in it with some stupid shyte.....Bolton's fumbles have cost us two goals...Baker's been poor since that breakout game in the midfield v GWS...Houli's been mostly awful......Cotchin's mind's clearly still in Melbourne...no excuses with McGrath out of the game.... :shh
On the bright side - Chol....while others big noted themselves some of us always knew.... :shh :shh
-
Should have been at least 2 or 3 goals further in front.
-
Someone has got to get on Parish with McGrath out surely
-
Cotchin is only there in body.
Chol has been very good.
Someone must tighten up on parish.
Expecting more from Dusty to be honest his kicking has been very poor.
Jack been good. Our forward 50s entries have been poor after first five minutes.
-
On top in most of the stats (more of the ball) but we've had fewer inside 50s because of our silly mistakes and turnovers. Need to get our heads into gear with the use of the footy.
-
Grimes still in the rooms after the high hit from Tippa.
-
Fluffy Tiger there's throwing allowed tonight.
Need to lower our eyes going inside 50. Not just long bombs.

Ok I'm going to say it
That was weak by Bachar, get him off :banghead
-
Houli couldn’t tackle a wet towel on a clothes line.

That's 2 last, casual kicks by Chol :scream
-
Dumb Chol. Better off having a shot.
-
Someone put scotch on a plane home, stuff me.
Chol has zero defensive urgency at all.
-
All of Chol's good work in the 1st half is being eroded away right now
-
Cotch what was that!
Too many Tiges with their brains still in the locker room :banghead.
We are making it so easy for them to gain possession :banghead.
56 - 41

Brainfade after brainfade :banghead
-
Aarts.... WTF!
-
Bolton goals
-
Don’t throw it away now boys
-
Sheesh, needed that goal. They are just waltzing away from every contest.

No system. Just created something out of nothing there.
CCJ contests and Bolton gets the crumbing goal :gotigers.

Poor coaching not running someone with Parish. Really poor
Yep.
Add Pickett in the ruck when we are playing two tall rucks and we can't win a clearance.

Another bad turnover not finding an open target (Houli).
Lucky they missed again.
68 - 44

Jeez our mids are lazy and slow on defence tonight.

We are better when we don’t bomb it

This is the pure definition of winning ugly.

Balta has been a wall in defence tonight.
Well done Graham. Kept running for the handball receive and goaled :gotigers.
Rich 11.8-74
Ess 6.8-44

How many simple targets have we stuffed up and missed tonight :banghead. A choice between Caddy and bakes and we allow the one Bomber to contest and spoil :facepalm.

They got that goal because of our two failures before to hit targets clearing from defence to the wing :banghead.

Geez we're getting smashed in the centre clearances this qtr :help.

Bolton's effort there was pathetic

Tackling is pathetic.

We are grasping at fresh air all night. Cotch, Houli need to give their pay packet back tonight.
-
Lucky!
Their turnover got us that goal
-
The problem is in the guts. We're getting smashed and they are getting easy F50 entries while we have to start every attack from defence.
Good work Jack. We only score on transition from defence or off a turnover like just then.
Goal to Dusty :gotigers
Rich 12.8-80
Ess 8.9-57
-
Umpiring terrible but largely going our way.
Houli needs to retire. He is slow and losing every contest.
FMD why do we play Pickett in the ruck when we have both Chol and CCJ in the team???
-
Cotch is cooked I think.
-
Cotch is cooked I think.
Is his head in the game? His focus this week has (rightly) been on his sick kid.

Just need the 4 points.

Essendon 1.2 5.4 8.9-57
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Coleman-Jones 2, Graham 2, Castagna 2, Martin 2, Caddy, Bolton.
Not sure how we are still 23 pts up. That was a pathetic quarter. Brainfade after brainfade and smashed in the guts.
-
A big last quarter fellas we need %
-
Nice kick Dion. Didn't just bomb it. Jack marks 45 out. Shanks it and doesn't make the distance :P.
-
A big last quarter fellas we need %
Let's just get the 4 points first
-
Ump blows whistle
No one has a clue whose free it is
Then suddenly advantage :banghead
-
Cotch is cooked I think.
Is his head in the game? His focus this week has (rightly) been on his sick kid.
Get your point
But why play?
-
Again failing to hit a target (that switch kick) leads to a goal for them :banghead.
That switch kick missed Kmac by 30m :facepalm.

Meant to be a pro. Should be switched on for the game.

We are playing panic footy
-
We obviously don’t want it. :help :banghead

Lucky again :banghead

Slack defensively Tiges.
Lucky they missed again.
80 - 65

Who gave that away?
Gift them another one
We are in huge trouble now :scream
-
This is a bloody disaster.
-
Can we get anyone on the defensive side of a stoppage.

Who gave that away?
Dusty they said on radio

Another brainfade gifts them a goal. Off the ball jumper punch apparently.
80 - 71
-
Who gave that away?
Dusty they said on radio
He should know better
-
Another gift from stupid footy
-
We've been pathetic this half and deserve to lose
-
If we give this up it may well F the season
-
Geez there's dumb footy out there. First in centre and then in defence :banghead.
-
Our mids getting smashed.
-
Season on the line
-
Our mids are lazy
-
Season done I reckon. Spent force
-
If we come back from this it will be a miracle
-
If CCJ is going to tap it forward can we actually have a Tiger mid there running onto the ball :banghead.
Getting smashed again in the middle.
Another defensive too letting the ball over the back.
-
Absolutely lazy and pee weak. Where is captain courageous? Can’t be sighted?
-
Disgraceful
-
We get the free and Aarts misses taking the advantage :scream.
-
Aarts :scream
-
This is our season fellas
-
Our workrate has been pathetic since 5 mins before half-time. How does Parish get on his own forward of the ball with a 1-vs-2?
-
Hardwick has been negligent tonight allowing Parish to run free tonight. He's cost us.
-
George goals
-
This is embarrassing.
Our mids are asleep.
-
Jack getting to that HF contest created that goal. Aarts to George who goals :gotigers.

Goals: Bolton 3, Castagna 3, Martin 3, Riewoldt 2, Coleman-Jones 2, Graham 2, Balta, Caddy, McIntosh, Rioli.
We kicked the last 7 goals to win by 39 after conceding the first 4 goals of the last and trailing :o.
-
They gave us a scare, but how good was our last ten minutes? :clapping
-
Man my blood pressure can’t take this. Pumped to get the 4 points devastated for prestia. It’s bizarre how the tigers can get absolutely pantsed then play a half of good football and come up winners. It won’t work against melb obviously but happy to bank the wins and fine tune the intensity and concentration as we get deeper into the season
-
Darcy Parish won the medal with 44 possies. Not sure why Dimma didn't tag him but Dimma will probably reply that we won the game.
-
They might as well have tried RCD as a lock down tagger on parish he may have been effective.
-
I thought Balta was our best
Absolute rock down back all night
-
They gave us a scare, but how good was our last ten minutes? :clapping
Incredible last 10 mins but we would've lost tonight if we had been playing a top 4 side. Our best is still brilliant when we get on a roll but our lapses and mistakes during games are substandard and we're also conceding runs of goals. Second week in a row we've conceded 4 goals to start the last quarter before turning it around.
-
They might as well have tried RCD as a lock down tagger on parish he may have been effective.
Actually that's a good idea, would be great for his development :clapping
-
Darcy Parish won the medal with 44 possies. Not sure why Dimma didn't tag him but Dimma will probably reply that we won the game.
He is a jet bloody hell. I'd always laughed at him for looking like such a prom queen at the draft camp.
-
what’s Prestia’s injury?
-
That Prestia injury is such a downer on what ended up being a good result.
-
I think Prestia was precaution.
-
Got the win and went up gear when we had to which was good only concern is teams are getting to many multiple goals against us and back.in game.
-

Parish deserved the medal. Killed us out of the guts especially after half-time and his efforts got them the lead before we turned it around in the last 10 mins.

We needed that win. Looked dicey in the last.
Castagna found the footy which was needed as he has been rubbish best game for a while (94% efficiency) :rollin
RCD was quiet and struggled to find the footy when not in the guts and spent a lot of time on the bench as did Caddy as both only had about 60% game time.
Aarts was good but why he didn’t handpass to Dusty is beyond comprehension he was super lucky not to get HTB.
Dusty was immense but his disposal can be very very sloppy at times. I think teams are going at him better than they have and not getting fooled by the fend off so those are probably factors. He just does things that help the team win.
Chol was awesome in the first quarter. If he can string 4 quarter it would be amazing.
I hope Grimes is ok, he got a big hit from Tippa.
I hope Prestia isn’t serious as he is an awesome midfielder and just a bull in the guts.
The umps were kind to us for once.
Anyway good win in the end and a good boost in percentage.

Dylan Grimes joins ABC Grandstand from the change rooms:
“I think it’s the sign of a mature side, that can fight back when the momentum is going the other way. It was a real arm wrestle and I’m proud of the boys for grinding it out.”
Dylan Grimes on the surface at Perth Stadium:
“It was a bit slippery, I think the dew settled in at half-time. It is a great stadium, the crowd was something else. Tonight was special and I’m looking forward to coming back to this venue in a week’s time.”
Dylan Grimes on the Tigers fight:
“We try and reinforce the process. Whether you’re in front by 100 or down by a mile, when the momentum swings against you, it’s important to go back to the fundamentals and that’s all you can really control as a player.”
Dylan Grimes on the rest of the season:
“Everything has been so up in the air that we haven’t really thought ahead. We didn’t even know if we were flying back to Melbourne or Sydney till a couple of hours before this game. We have to take it as it comes.”

Rcd needs to be more inside and getting the footy out. Thats his caper not the outside stuff.
-
Great to get up in the end but it didn't look like it for a bit. I still think we went in one tall down, Pickett in the ruck just doesn't work and Dimma should already know it from previous games. Happy to get out with the points.
-
Great spectacle and stadium. Kudos to the Perth crowd for packing it out.
The only thing I have a negative is the prematch entertainment. I know they only had a week to arrange it but;
- it was extremely poor from what I could see on the tv. It’s as if they grabbed a bunch of indigenous people from the local park and asked them to do some tribal dancing for a few minutes for a few bucks
- why weren’t they allowed on the ground? It’s big enough there’s plenty of ground to do some sort of prematch ceremony.
- if not the ground why not a designated stage area - on the steps in the aisles was just tacky and poorly designed.
I’ve attended many of these and it’s a little hit and miss sometimes the prematch is very well arranged and other times it seems to be put together last minute. I personally think the Anzac eve game is a much better prematch and seems to be organised a lot better than dreamtime.
I reckon they could do so much better job than they’ve done and you’d think “dreamtime” being a massive resource itself to build from.
-
Jack Graham was outstanding and for me was BOG. Was highly impressed by his game. Bolton was impressive as was Chol and Noah. Much better game from George.
RCD and Caddy very quiet. Concern for me is our wing positions still seem to be a problem.
-
Gee Prestia and then Edwards comes back and suddenly RCD's not attending the centre bounces and getting less touches...well duh.....kid played his role well enough under the circumstances... :shh

Got to find a way to put him in there to good not to gives Cotchin and Prestia a chop out.

Nice write-up of the game from Mongrel Punt:
And then it happened.
Challenged, and looking as though they were out on their feet, the Tigers found something.
They have a gear, this team. It is a gear other clubs wish they had, but just don’t seem to possess. We saw it against GWS earlier in the season, and we saw it again in this game. With the momentum swinging wildly to favour their opponents, the Tigers simply stood up and said “enough!”
What followed was a tsunami of yellow and black goals, as the premiers slammed on seven majors from the 15-minute mark of the last quarter to seemingly cruise to a 39 point win.
39 damn points! After being down and seemingly looking down the barrel just 15 minutes earlier! Unbelievable stuff from this club, once again.

AFL Report Card: Round 12
Max Laughton, David Zita, Ben Cotton and Ben Waterworth
Fox Sports
June 7th, 2021
RICHMOND
They did it ... again. There had to be doubt creeping in about Richmond’s ability to win after the Bombers piled on four straight goals to take the lead midway through the final term, but once again the reigning champs flexed their muscle and somehow wound up 39-point victors. The Tigers simply ooze belief and continue to overcome whatever obstacles are thrown their way. Dion Prestia looks set for yet another sideline stint, but you have to back Richmond in given how its responded to adversity so far this year.
In the votes
Dustin Martin and Shai Bolton tore the game apart in the final term, with three goals between them when the game was on the line. Jack Riewoldt and Callum Coleman-Jones combined very well for the second consecutive week, while Mabior Chol was fantastic in the ruck covering the absent Toby Nankervis. Jack Graham rarely missed a target and Dion Prestia had the second-most touches of any Tiger before being subbed out.
Room for improvement
Not for the first time this season, the Tigers conceded a run of goals that they usually don’t allow. It happened against the Crows last week and again against Essendon as the fourth quarter got underway. After an impressive start to his career, Riley Collier-Dawkins looks to be running low on gas and could be due for a rest with his side’s game against the Eagles moved forward to next week.

If you go back and actually watch the last quarter we made some ordinary errors and the ball bounced Essendon's way.
Jack missed a goal early in the quarter that would have taken us to 28 points.
Can't remember who kicked the ball backwards to McIntosh's wing but the ball went well over his head and by the time McIntosh got to it it spun away from him. Did well to tap it to his advantage but by then others had arrived and the ball spurts out to Essendon's advantage and they are away. All our defenders are out of position especially Balta.
Once we stop to stupid errors the game swung back our way.
Wonder if Jack had of kicked that goal early on what the narrative would have been about Essendon

It was Broad who missed the target by about 20 metres. We made alot of basic skill errors that cost us goals in terms of us scoring but also by the Bombers, should had been 7 goals up at 3/4 time with the game pretty much dead and buried.

When a player takes a shot at goal, Champion Data also records the player’s position on the ground and how much pressure they are under.
For instance, Richmond kicked 19.9 (123) against Essendon in Perth last weekend – the club’s second-highest score of the year. But based on the difficultly of the shots at goal the Tigers took, they were ‘expected’ to kick 106.5 points for the game, meaning they exceeded accuracy expectations.
It can work the other way, too. In the same game, Essendon finished with 12.12 (84). But according to Champion Data’s expected accuracy formula, the Bombers should’ve kicked 101.3 points.
While the Tigers won the match by 39 points (123-84), the margin should’ve been a lot closer according to the expected scores (106.5 to 101.3).
This is why teams use expected score. Tigers coach Damien Hardwick would’ve left Optus Stadium sensing his side didn’t perform as well as the scoreboard suggested. It helps teams avoid complacency when, if they simply looked at the margin, they might think all is well.

Regrettably the match committee did not agree with your view and have dropped RCD for the match against the Eagles.
