Title: Tigers will have to attempt to win premiership from lower half of top 8 (Age)

RICHMOND’S NEW FRONTIER

The most important consequence of West Coast’s stirring comeback win over Richmond is that the Tigers will almost certainly have to attempt to win the premiership from the lower half of the top eight.

Richmond is far, far better than a 7-6 team. Their best will test or best anyone’s, but the loss to the Eagles - which still could have been won if Jason Castagna had lowered his eyes (one of dozen or so maybes for Richmond) in the final seconds - means the top four seems beyond their reach.

The Tigers would need to win each of their nine remaining games to be assured of a top four berth - even eight wins would be dicey, given their relatively poor percentage and the gap between them and the current top four.

So, the upshot is that they’ll probably be coming from an elimination final, hoping to be hosting that game in Melbourne (and avoid the Eagles in Perth). It’s a scenario that is far more challenging than any of their three flags, in which they finished third.

The match was memorable for the heroics of Josh Kennedy - still a nimble force in his 16th season - and for the astounding talents of Nic Naitanui and Dustin Martin. Shai Bolton, too, is emerging as Martin’s apprentice; there’s a sense of Lillee and Thompson about Martin-Bolton - if Dusty doesn’t get you, Shai might.

West Coast will play finals now.

Richmond can progress much further. In racing parlance, they’ll just have to do from three wide.

Callum Twomey and co. on the AFL website think we're showing all the signs of an end to a dynasty and that we're done.

* Patches in games where we look vulnerable.

* Opposition sides think we're gettable.

* Losing games badly or being run down from behind in our losses.

*  Minus 20 (25 - 45) in terms of goals in the second halves against top 8 sides.

We are literally 1 win outside the top 4. I don't see why we can't get back in.

Dees showed yesterday that top teams can still lose games unexpectedly.

going to be hard unless we pull out a 100 point suns or saints win.. Also other teams have a game in hand.

This week when we have a bye the following teams play each other

cats vr buldogs

then the following week when we play the saints

eagles v dogs
lions v cats
port v swans

then when we play the suns

swans v eagles

We will win both of those you would think, and we could be anywhere from 5th to 7th after the suns game.

The last round IMO will determine the order:

ROUND 23

Brisbane Lions vs. West Coast Eagles (G)

Geelong Cats vs. Melbourne (GMHBA)

Richmond vs. Hawthorn (MCG)

Sydney Swans vs. Gold Coast SUNS (SCG)

Western Bulldogs vs. Port Adelaide (MRVL)

We're in the position of not being able to drop any games unexpectedly (eg Giants, Freo or GC away, or any of the other so-called winnables) and pinching at least one from Geelong or Brisbane. That would give us 15 wins - still might not be enough to get us to top 4. I just did the ladder predictor and if other games go as expected, we'll finish 6th or 7th I reckon, even if we win all games from here. We really need one of the top 4 to fall in a hole.

I did the ladder predictor this morning

And on best case I had us dropping only 1 game, finishing 16-6 and we still finish 6th

Relying on other teams to drop games isn't going to be enough

BTW: I have the Dees finishing 4th LOL

Let's take it one game at time and go from there.
