-
McIntosh out for Dow, Castagna is the sub.
-
12 point game. :rollin
-
I wonder if our mids will pull the finger out.
Hopefully MRJ stamps himself as a permanent so we don’t need to see the other two play for us
I want to see more from CCJ I got a feeling he is soft but it’s just a suspicion at this stage.
Like the look of Stack and Rioli at HB especially Stack but so far some good signs from Rioli too.
-
Just want us to keep it basic today: focus on winning the contests, minimising unforced errors and nailing our shots. No more half-hearted picking and choosing when to go.
-
Sticking tackles would be a start.
-
Basics Tigers - no mistackles and missed open targets by hand :facepalm.
Edit: beat me to it Tigeritis.
-
Why the stuff can’t we hit a handball target? :banghead
-
Another mistackle (pin the arm FFS) :banghead and then Ralphsmith didn't go at the loose ball and got lost :P.
0 - 6
-
Really bad signs. Defensively 10-15m off opponents. No numbers and structure forward of the ball except for Lynch.
-
50?
Give me a spell :banghead
-
We look red hot at the moment. Clean ball movement, skills are up, hunting the man and ball.
…. Said no one in the last 6 weeks
-
Uh oh, the bottom team beating a team playing like a bottom team
-
Flat as tacks again :P
-
We are getting schooled
-
what is the free kick count up to now? including the dodgy fifty?
-
Zero pressure in the middle
-
And that's why the HTB rule is a joke. Tackle a player who just drops the ball and then you get pinged for holding the man.
That next pass to Thomas wasn't 15m either ::).
Aside from that we are playing as if we don't care. North have 22 uncontested marks already.
-
well if they put any pressure WP, it's gonna be more 50's right?
-
what is the free kick count up to now? including the dodgy fifty?
0 to 1
1 x 50 to them
-
You would think we are tanking given the lack of effort.
-
MR Jr is excited to be out there :clapping
-
Only way we were going to win forward of centre was via a bad North turnover.
Lambert misses from 35.
1 - 14
-
Stupid option by Bolton. And why is Short lining up for that handball.
-
Why not take the shot from 45?
Bolton hands off to Short who runs left then has to stop and swing on his right. Rushed.
2 - 14
-
how was that holding the ball?
-
How was that HTB against Lynch?
-
HTB against Lynch? :huh
-
Parker's disposal is woeful more often than not :banghead
-
What was that balldrop Graham?
-
Nank held twice in the ruck and the ump calls play on ::).
-
he was shoved out of that marking comp too
-
Terrible by Cotchin
Too slow
-
WTF !!!!~!
-
what just happened
-
We're playing crap but these umps are on the take. What a load of crock that being called a block ::). If anything it was a free to us if the mark to Hugp wasn't taken.
-
How was that a free kick?
-
That was ours, how did it go to North ffs
-
That block call the worst free kick given all year. Goal 🦘
-
We are so crap at the moment, it’s actually not funny.
-
This is embarrassing
-
Lyon and Jono Brown gloating about how bad we are playing
-
Baker done for blocking the Norf player. Think it was more lack of awareness than deliberate but just sums us up.
-
Disposal is as bad as I've seen it. From any club at any time.
-
So how was that not HTB against Norf given what has been paid against us? Norf player tackled and dropped the ball.
-
Our whole stuffing forward line gets blocked week in week out and there isn't a peep and yet they pull that out LOL
-
Hall just runs past all of our mids.
-
I thought when the umpire calls stand you are not allowed to move?
Three times now a N0rt player has moved, play on has not been called and no 50 called
WTF :banghead
-
Ralphsmith goes alright
-
we're tanking it out surely
-
Another pathetic quarter of footy
There's a clear pattern here :lol
-
This is Wallace-era stuff
-
I didn't think we could play any worse and we have. That was as soft, lazy and unskilled as ever. Disgraceful! >:(
1/4 time
Richmond 0.3-3
North Melb. 3.4-22
-
What a fall from grace.
-
There are 2 options here:
1. Players are off the coach, or
2. The coaches can’t coach.
-
That was comical.....we look like a team in first year of a rebuild... :shh
-
The worse thing is North have turned it over a heap to us (they should be 6 goals up) and we've done stuff all with it on the counter. No run and no effort especially from our mids. Lazy and slow as anything.
-
CCJ goals
-
Ump had no choice but to pay that free to CCJ
-
OMG we actually got a free! :o
Finally we kick it straight and we kick a goal.
CCJ goal :gotigers
Rich 1.3-9
NM 3.4-22
-
Rioli… 🤬
-
RIoli D, hands the ball back to N0rt :banghead
-
OMG… holding the man.
-
ROFL holding the MAN!!!!!!
-
Holding the man :huh
-
THis is UTTER UTTER rubbish
-
How was Larkey allowed to mark that
Terrible by our defenders
-
Even when he was at the Suns, Hall always had his best game against us
Richmond don't rate him so they just let him do what he likes, it is embarrassing
-
Can't hit simple targets :facepalm.
Can't defend. Allow North's forward a free run at the ball to a long high ball :facepalm.
Umps screwing us :banghead.
Same old same old!
-
How was Larkey allowed to mark that
Terrible by our defenders
This one at was worse
-
Our forwards coach needs to go. Even when we transition through the midfield cleanly we have to kick it 70 meters to the lead up forward.
-
We've checked out for the year. No one is giving a stuff especially our senior players.
-
Our senior players have been putrid.
-
Interesting shot a goal from Dow. Is that how we teach it these days?
-
Finally some forward pressure. Graham wins the HTB and hits up Dow. Misses.
10 - 24
-
Some strange poo going on. oh wtf is that 50 for.....tagger gets to be a jerkoff
-
Our forwards coach needs to go. Even when we transition through the midfield cleanly we have to kick it 70 meters to the lead up forward.
That would be X Clarke who also is our VFL coach.
-
He may have signed a new contract but he isn't immune to called out for being a selfish moron for giving away that free kick
Disgraceful Bolton
-
Rules rewritten, to stop our pressure but let everyone scrag our players to the point of insanity
-
Bolton selfish letting his frustration getting the better of him.
Another 50 gifts Norf a goal ::)
Interesting shot a goal from Dow. Is that how we teach it these days?
Stupid stand rule is teaching players bad goalkicking habits. Players aren't lining up and kicking in a straight line which is robbing them of accuracy.
-
they guy was in his face pulling him around and being a prick but the umpire let that go
-
This is highly embarrassing
-
We're done
-
I thought we’d lose but not like this
-
our system is the problem = coach
-
"A shell of a team" Sums us up.
-
If you don't turn up to play and don't give a stuff any side will pump you.
-
I know we are sh@t, but… it has to be demoralising for the team to roll out every week and get fingered in the b#m by the umps every week. They just invent decisions to pay against us and don’t pay a 10th of the frees we should get.
-
I thought we’d lose but not like this
I thought we'd win
We'd struggle to a win but we'd win
But not many out there seem to care, so right now I don't either
-
Players have checked out, it's obvious. Either that or were just hope less.
They are doing what they please
-
our system is the problem = coach
:lol
Then you better start another "sack the coach" thread
:rollin
-
I thought we’d lose but not like this
I thought we'd win if we showed up with the right intensity/workrate or else we'd get pumped by 7-8 goals if we didn't. Sadly it's the latter. North's one wood is their midfield contesting and we're just letting them do what they want.
-
our system is the problem = coach
No system will work if the players are lazy and have checked out.
-
5 mins short of half time and we've kicked 1 goal
Sums the last 8 weeks up to a tee
-
How many coaches/staff did we lose last season? The tackling, handballing, running patterns, mental, forward line, midfield and fitness coaches, did I miss any?
-
We can no longer kick mark or handball. It's quite laughable
-
How wasn't that a free to Bolton? The Norf player landed in his back.
-
Baker - stop dithering!!!!!
-
walk off and shut the season down.
-
How many coaches/staff did we lose last season? The tackling, handballing, running patterns, mental, forward line, midfield and fitness coaches, did I miss any?
You forgot the talent ID coach.
-
I know he is only had 1 disposal
But have really enjoyed MR Jr's game
He chases, 2nd, 3rd efforts
Having a dip and can tackle
-
We are also just burning teammates with our indecision. Free options to the left just then going forward and we kick long instead and to the ground towards Lynch then Edwards is too slow deciding and kicks backwards to Rioli who is under the hammer.
-
Jack sneaks one through (just) on the siren.
Half-time
Richmond 0.3 2.4-16
North Melb. 3.4 5.6-36
Goals: Riewoldt, Coleman-Jones
Can't believe we are only 3 goals down. We virtually matched them that on the scoreboard that 2nd qtr even though we were smashed in general play gifting them the ball with our lazy hackness :o.
-
It's all worrying, but the most worrying thing in this game is that North are VERY ordinary. And we look like we are actually trying. That's what worries me. Dimma just can't say at the end of this game that "North were very good, played some really good footy". They are crap.
-
We are also just burning teammates with our indecision. Free options to the left just then going forward and we kick long instead and to the ground towards Lynch then Edwards is too slow deciding and kicks backwards to Rioli who is under the hammer.
yep
-
Nank, Bolton and Lynch.....
-
Same issue all year.
- Midfield is now worst in comp, getting belted.
- Ball movement is cooked, can't move the ball and find a target in an absolute debacle of a forward structure.
-
Essentially we built a team of average picks and utilised high pressure and endurance to work teams over. Hocking turned the game into stop start gridiron to take the energy and pressure out of it and let the big dumb animals turn it into netball. I am surprised they haven't been handed stuffing bibs with their positions written on em.
-
No hunger, where has the Richmond way gone , let’s see if any of the kids want to be part of the future as finals defiantly looks past us now
-
Need to use our draft picks. Use wisely. Take all 6 picks to the draft.
-
I mean seriously...Stand...what netball rubbish is that ?
-

Hocking did what he needed to do to get Gee long a flag tjats all.
-
I mean seriously...Stand...what netball rubbish is that ?
Game worked perfectly without the rule for over 150 years. Get rid of it and the prior opportunity rule and footy would be much better
-
Hovking did it to savage us. It worked. I doubt they will change it.
I dont care who wins the flag as long as it is not Geelong.
-
agreed
-
Hovking did it to savage us. It worked. I doubt they will change it.
I dont care who wins the flag as long as it is not Geelong.
Yep
Go Bulldogs ;D
-
I was hoping Greene the little poo had done a better job on Danger but looks like he will be able to breath well enough to play >:(
-
I’m going to contradict myself several times here because I just can’t comprehend how far we’ve fallen off the pace. Yep, the stand rule certainly gave the kick and mark teams a huge boost, but, it’s the same rule for both teams and we’ve failed to adapt. But, we’ve recruited a squad over years to olay our style and game and the AFL interfered in how the game is played. It will take us years to recruit and adapt to the AFLs preferred game style.
-
Same issue all year.

Agree. Made worse since our intensity dropped has dropped away post the Eagles loss when a top 4 spot and another flag dream went out of the window. The only time we've turned up to play was for Jack's 300th when we had something to play for in the minds of our players.
-
Liking Ralphsmith, goes when he has to, brave and fast
-
Clear free to Nank not paid. Geez I wonder how Nank's got blood ump ::)
-
Geez, Nank gets his head ripped off and no free. It doesn’t get more obvious than that for a free kick.
-
Ziebell kicks it straight to Sheds 35 out lol. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 3.4-22
NM 5.6-36
-
doesn't count, wrong jumper
-
LOL two throwing the balls for North, nothing but he reckons we held it
-
How was that prior opportunity against Jack. He barely took possession.
-
Norf defender drops the ball = play on.
Jack drops the ball = HTB
::)
-
Blatant rugby pass by the Norf defender 10 seconds before it too
-
McDonald tackled and does a 720 = play on ::).
-
Why look to pass off Lynch 10m out running towards goal? :huh
-
Why just why
-
We're done
Might have gone a bit early :rollin
-
:lol Umpire bashing :rollin
I’d rather concentrate on how trash we are at keeping the ball inside our forward 50.
Oh and why we are struggling to beat a bottom team.
-
Prestia lowers his eyes and finds Graham 45 out. Passes sideways to Floss who is further out :huh. Misses.
We get it back and Bolton's long bomb gets over the top and bounces through :gotigers.
Rich 4.6-30
NM 5.6-36
-
Dan Rioli don't burn your free teammates forward of the ball.
-
Its bettee if we keep losing. We need a better draft position guys.
-
oh there is no doubt we are playing trash, no doubt at all. The umps just add another layer to the shizer lasagne
-
Can we take the first option Tiges (Parker) when it's on.
-
Jack & Tom have to Create more of a contest
-
How is MJR going?
-
Short to Sheds 40 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 5.6-36
NM 5.7-36
-
fast, some good pressure and tackles, hasn't got his mitts on it yet, but caused a few turnovers
-
How is MJR going?
He's chasing hard to apply pressure. Can't knock his workrate.
-
How is MJR going?
If you base it on disposals only people say not going great
But I'm loving his game.
Running, chasing, tacking, pressuring = the little things the 1%ers
And he's loving being out there
-
Every week we get back to even then a pathetic centre clearance costs us a goal.
-
Easy centre clearance and goal to Norf :banghead.
36 - 43
-
LOL speak of the Devil
-
Great roved goal to MRJ
-
MAAAUUURRICE! :clapping :clapping
-
Can't understand why we don't just kick it out of the centre rather than look for the perfect exit.
-
It was MRJ's goal before he kicked it.
His pressure created the turn over
-
Worth the price of the ticket.
Well done young fella and May there he many more. :clapping :clapping :clapping
-
Just kick the ball forward Nank.
MRJ's first goal :highclap :veryhappy :gotigers

Parker around the body snap from 40 and goals! :gotigers

We're in front! :o
-
Every week we get back to even then a pathetic centre clearance costs us a goal.
And agsin.
-
Now will we go to sleep again now we're in front like last week ::) or will we keep going?
-
Next centre clearance they just casually go forward
-
Parker is making poo happen...
-
Not perfect and risky but it gets to Baker who ends up with the goal :gotigers
Rich 8.6-54
NM 6.8-44
-
Was that out of bounds?
54 - 50
Got to love how Norf are given so much time in the tackle to get rid of the ball ::).
-
North get a nice little goal after taking the ball out of bounds...lol
-
We will win this one.
-
Out of bounds?
Yes but no called. We stopped waiting for the whistle
-
CCJ kicks a crumbers goal :lol
-
CCJ banana while tackled goes through.
Ump wants to Review.
Goal! :gotigers
Rich 9.6-60
NM 7.8-50
-
Our pressure much better this quarter
-
Norf player (Thomas) nailed in the tackle and illegally disposes of it = knocked out in the tackle ::)
-
I laughed at that call, clearly not the case.
-
Short got kneed in the back of the head, no free ump just calls for ball up
-
Id keep CCJ and trade out lynch lol
-
3/4 time
Richmond 0.3 2.4 9.6-60
North Melb. 3.4 5.6 7.8-50
Goals: Coleman-Jones 2, Edwards 2, Baker, Bolton, Parker, Riewoldt, M.Rioli.
7 goal quarter after only kicking 2 in a half. Amazing what intensity, workrate, playing as a team and giving a stuff does.
-
It's going to come down to the centre clearances. Norf up 13-3 in centre clearances.
Keep the pressure up as we did in the 3rd qtr and we stop Norf getting simple forward entries. Drop off like the first half and they will get goals.
-
Defensively asleep there.
60 - 54
Once again Norf get a goal from a stoppage clearance.
-
Bolts' snap misses.
Good forward pressure but Bolt's next snap is OOTF.
61 - 56
-
Should be 3 - 4 goals up.
-
Nice weave Dow but that's a left foot shot.
-
Should be 3 - 4 goals up.
Wasted that 5 mins it was trapped in our F50.
-
Edwards cops a whack across the ears

Laughable umpiring tonight. Thank goodness we still got the goal.

Rich 13.7-85

We finally rocked up in the second half.
As good as this 2nd half has been, it's an indictment on our first half.
Won't get away with that first half crap next week.
-
We're still in the finals hunt lol
-
You don't want to miss out on Jason Horne Kangas. Lay down.
We should trade up to get him
-
Ear massage from Mansell :D
-
We finally rocked up in the second half.
:clapping

How good a kick was that by Prestia to Nank :clapping.
Nank misses.

We are a much better with Vlastuin back
Been massive tonight

How bloody exciting is MR Jr?
-
Hugo from 40 misses.

Classic Jekyll & Hyde game.

Do we make the 8 ftom here?
-
Do we make the 8 ftom here?
Next week is huge
-
Dunno what to think. would prefer, No finals, fresh start, let em all think we are done, some good picks reset and smash em next year.
-
Its an elimination final for us next week. Must win game.
-
Final Score
Richmond 0.3 2.4 9.6 13.11-89
North Melb. 3.4 5.6 7.8 8.8-56
Goals: Coleman-Jones 2, Edwards 2, Baker 2, Riewoldt 2, Bolton, Parker, Prestia, Ralphsmith, M.Rioli.
11.7-73 to 3.2-20 after half-time.
-
Much better tackling and pressure which makes us a far better team. Rioli Jnr set the tone for the others to follow.
Our forwards did a lot better to lock the ball inside too.
Good win and better signs
Mids did much better too.
-
Do we make the 8 ftom here?
Depends which team turns up. Our first half team or second half team. I'm still very concerned about our forward connection, just is not right.
-
Thought Dow showed a bit tonight.
-
Dunno what to think. would prefer, No finals, fresh start, let em all think we are done, some good picks reset and smash em next year.
Each to their own but for me absolutely Not.
Look what happens when you get rid of players who have continually let us down.
Keep the same team.
-
Thought Dow showed a bit tonight.
Yes I agree. I liked his game tried to create and didn’t mind taking the game on.
Keep playing him.
-
The last 2 weeks the Captain has been a different player too. Covering the ground much better and finding some quality ball.

Last night was simply a lesson in workrate. It's been the key issue for us this year. There was obviously little workrate as a team in the first half but then back to what it should and needs to be in the second half. The stats back that up:

AFL Report Card: Round 21
Ben Waterworth, Ben Cotton, David Zita and Ronny Lerner
Foxsports
9 August 2021
RICHMOND
This was a dramatic tale of two halves. In the first two quarters, the Tigers’ season looked like it was headed for the scrap heap. Despite the sizeable carrot of finals footy dangling in front of them, they started the game with no energy and were bossed around by the Kangaroos for the better part of an hour, slipping 26 points in arrears at one stage. But a goal after the half-time siren from Jack Riewoldt gave them a pulse, and it served as the spark for a spectacular revival in the second half, as Richmond channelled their old selves, overwhelming the Kangaroos with intense pressure and slick ball movement to execute a 59-point turnaround by kicking 12 of the last 15 goals.
In the votes
If it wasn’t for Jack Graham the Tigers would probably already be coming to terms with their first finals-free season in five years. Determined to turn the tide in his team’s favour, 22 of his 36 disposals came in the second half, and he also finished with a game-high 10 score involvements, as he willed Richmond to overcome the vastly-improved Kangaroos. Nick Vlastuin also made an impressive return in his first game since Round 16, amassing a career-high 30 touches to go with a game-high 14 marks to be one of the most influential players on the ground.
Room for improvement
Quite a few cracks were papered by the final margin in the end, and the Tigers were probably lucky that they were playing the bottom side. If Damien Hardwick’s men started a game like they did on Saturday against probably 14-15 other teams, the game would’ve been over by half-time. The Tigers were lethargic and passive in the first half and allowed the Kangaroos to dictate proceedings. If Nick Larkey nailed a few simple set shots, it would’ve been very hard for the Tigers to get back into the game. Richmond cannot afford to start games like that if they still want to play finals.

Last night was simply a lesson in workrate. It's been the key issue for us this year. There was obviously little workrate as a team in the first half but then back to what it should and needs to be in the second half. The stats back that up:
Qtr Richmond's
pressure
rating:
1st 160
2nd 174
3rd 216
Tackles 3rd qtr:

NM 12
Disposals: Rich NM
1st half 178 - 222
2nd half 195 - 160

We also used the ball better in the second half. The efficiency improved in the second half.

Lucky to have a pulse at H/T. Game should have been beyond us by half time and probably would have been against any one but the 18th placed team.Thats about as bad as ive seen us play in the first half.
Some serious problems the way we are going about it not the least at stoppages

I wonder if North pulled back a bit in the last half to pad their ladder position??
-
For me Edwards is a worry he looks cooked lately.

i thought Parker was okay.

That's what I thought, show a bit, get the fans excited, but make sure they keep pick 1
-
doubt it. They still would be 2 points clear at the bottom, even if they had of won.

Positive: Changing things on the run
After a very poor start, Richmond was able to change things around mid-game which led to a 53-point turnaround.
Damien Hardwick shifted Shane Edwards and Liam Baker across half-forward after the main break to negate the way North Melbourne’s half-backs were dominating play after a substandard two-goal first half.
Aside from personnel movement, the Tigers also shifted their game plan after allowing the Kangaroos 72 uncontested marks by half-time. That was reduced to just 30 in the second half with the Tigers nicking David Noble’s game plan halfway through, taking 66 marks without pressure across quarters three and four.
The reigning premiers also ramped up the pressure and got their scores from turnover game back up, breathing life into their season in the process.
For the Tigers faithful it was also brilliant to see Maurice Rioli Jnr do some nice things on debut while Thomson Dow, who was a late in for Kamdyn McIntosh, produced a quality performance in game five with 22 disposals.
Negative: Horrendous start, inability in the middle
As mentioned above, the Tigers started poorly.
North were at times toying with them in the first quarter before taking a 20-point lead into the main break. That could have been more if the Kangas made the most of all their chances.
What was more worrying early was Richmond’s inability to win a centre clearance. At one point, North led 8-0 in centre clearances, before the Tigers went some way to bridging the discrepancy by winning 7-6 in the second half.
If they want to beat the Giants this weekend or even qualify for finals, they’ll want to fix up that side of their game.
