According to Eddie we're possibly heading to Darwin to play the Giants in round 22.
AFL wants to get a game up there in Darwin. Initially thoughts were it was going to be Melbourne vs Adelaide. However, the AFL wants a GWS home game as the Giants will then get the money to make up for the loss of their Canberra home games this year.
-
Where's our makeup games ???????
-
stuff you AFL!
-
I was a tad bit excited at the prospect of a trip to Darwin. Would mean seeing family
But now we are going back into lockdown no hope of getting there now
-
Hard to see it being played outside of Victoria let alone Darwin now unless the NT govt sets up a week long bubble for both sides up there like we had in WA before the Freo game. Can see this match now being played at Docklands, Kardinia Park or even Ballarat.

... Friday night’s blockbuster against eighth-placed Greater Western Sydney at Marvel Stadium
The Giants, who trained at the Tigers’ Punt Rd headquarters on Monday, had asked the AFL that the pivotal clash not be held at the MCG, where the Tigers have been traditionally been so strong but have won only four of their 10 matches there this season.
The Tigers have won two of the three games they have played at Marvel Stadium in 2021 despite coach Damien Hardwick declaring after the four-point win over the Giants in round nine that: “I hate coming here”.
Balme said the Tigers will approach Friday night “as if it was a final”.
“The ground doesn’t win you the game, the players win the game,” he said.

Prefer it isn’t at the G. We’ve been horrible there this season.

GWS will be without Brent Daniels for at least a month after the small forward injured his hamstring against the Cats.
But the Giants but could be spoiled for choice at the selection table this week, with seven players facing fitness tests ahead of the crucial match against Richmond.
Jacob Hopper (concussion), Phil Davis (concussion), Sam Reid (ankle), Daniel Lloyd (ankle), Stephen Coniglio (toe) and Adam Kennedy (hamstring) could all be available for selection if they pass fitness tests, while Bobby Hill is also a chance to return after spending 14 days in quarantine before joining the team late last week.
Josh Kelly (quad), Shane Mumford (managed), Jesse Hogan (managed) and Jeremy Finlayson (managed) all weren’t listed on the Giants’ official injury list, so they loom as possible inclusions.
Irish defender Callum Brown will also miss two weeks with a hamstring injury.
Rising Star favourite Tom Green is still one to two weeks away from returning from his hamstring injury.

The GWS Giants’ bid to play their home game against Richmond at Marvel Stadium looks set to be granted.
Slated times, venues and dates for round 22 are all based off what industry sources currently understand the preferred fixture plan to be as of Tuesday afternoon, with the fluid pandemic situation able to alter such plans at short notice.
Richmond and GWS’ race for eighth spot will re-commence on Friday at Marvel, the Giants seemingly successful in avoiding having to play a home game at Richmond’s home ground the MCG. Marvel is of course is the ground the Tigers were openly critical of earlier this season.

AFL360 has our game starting at 7:50pm.

Toby Greene is involved in almost 40% of the Giants score. That's the highest in the AFL.
So he is a massive out for GWS from a team scoring perspective let alone because he's a gun himself.
The other thing about GWS is they allow the opposition to have a stack of inside 50s but they are strong defensively at preventing the opposition from scoring per F50 (just 39%). That's how they still beat Geelong last week despite the Cats having 65 inside 50s.

The AFL wants us out of finals read the script everyone. Hence the Geelong Doctor's report. They will appeal and he will get off 100%. He plays this week guaranteed.
Plus the umps will give them a tidal wave of favourism during the game.
-
Yes reckon he will play for sure now.
-
GWS will try their luck at the AFL Appeals Board in a bid to free Toby Greene to play in Friday night's crunch clash with Richmond.

From Dimma's presser today:
Friday's clash with GWS is crunch time for the Tigers, who sit two points behind the eighth-placed Giants with two games to play in the home-and-away campaign, as they attempt to keep their three-peat hopes alive.
Hardwick said the Tigers, winners of three of the past four grand finals, were "in a reasonable place with big-game experience" and felt they were hitting their straps ahead of Friday's "enormous challenge".
The Tigers have improved in key statistical areas over the past month, with two wins from their past four matches. They have tightened one of their major flaws, leaking opposition goals from stoppages, and their triple-premiership coach likes what he has seen in recent weeks.
"There's been bits and pieces that have improved. There's been some inconsistency of performance - we'd obviously like to iron out those," he said.
"But we look at the way we've been playing there's been more Richmond-like performances - if that makes sense - in the way we've gone about the game and the way we've played.
"So look, ideally we'd still love to be in a little bit better shape than what we are at the moment but there's some things that we're doing in our game that we really like."
This is the second time the Tigers and Giants have met at Marvel Stadium, having done so in round nine when the Tigers won by four points. Hardwick declared after that game that: “I hate playing here … our people don’t come here.” Less than 18,000 fans had shown up, the Tigers’ lowest home crowd since 2004.
When asked about those comments, Hardwick replied: “I don’t know about voiced displeasure but the fact of the matter is we have won a fair few games there [at Marvel Stadium]. We are happy to play there. It doesn’t really worry us where we play.”
This time there won’t be any fans as the contest will be behind closed doors but Hardwick said he had no issue with the Giants requesting the match be held away from the MCG. The Tigers have won two of three matches they have played at Docklands this season.

THE PENULTIMATE round of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season will kick off with a sudden-death showdown between Greater Western Sydney and Richmond on Friday night.
The 2019 grand finalists stayed in the finals race with wins on the weekend, setting up a blockbuster round 22 clash.
The match, originally scheduled for Giants Stadium, will now be played at Marvel Stadium - the same venue the two sides clashed in round nine when a Dusty Martin-inspired Tigers claimed a narrow victory.
In a statement, the AFL said Supplementary Protocols were currently in place for Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Gold Coast, GWS, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, and the Western Bulldogs.
AFL clubs and broadcasting manager Travis Auld said: "The Friday night match between the GWS Giants and Richmond has both teams playing for a place in the top eight.

They do know we've won two out of the three games we've played at Marvel this year including a comeback win over the Giants :huh3.
-
Richmond looked like the Tigers of old in the second half last week against North Melbourne.
North's Uncontested Marks Score Differential to Rich
1st half 73 -20
2nd half 30 +53

They were trying to get this game to Canberra which would have been worse for us. I reckon the lockdown in Canberra came at the right time. Who would have thought we would embrace to prospect of playing at Marvel!

Greene is officially out.

Aarts is the sub.
-
I have tipped the Tigers but to be honest it was more heart than head. I don't think they win this with our outs but let's hope they put up what the did in the second half last week. Happy to be proven wrong. :gotigers
-
We can't afford another start half asleep and not turn up until half time. Need to bring the second half pressure and intensity of last week for the whole 4 quarters. It all counts in the guts. If we can match/nullfiy them in there then we win; otherwise they win.
Not sure why Aarts is the sub :huh3.
-
Nice start, 2 handed push in the back and Hogan goals.
-
Some dumb decisions at stoppages so far. We've had first hands and we've just coughed it up everytime :banghead.
0 - 6
-
What an idiot! :banghead
Lynch :facepalm :facepalm
-
:banghead
Jack kicks the goal but a free is given away in the goalsquare to GWS :banghead
-
Lynch needs to pull his head in.
-
That wasn't a free kick against Lynch on replay. Bloody cheating umps >:(.
-
Lynch needs to pull his head in.
For what?
They just showed the replay
It wasn't a free
Pathetic decision
Pot the bloke when he deserves it, not for something that wasn't a free
-
Not even close to a free kick, absolute disgrace of a decision.
-
Baker goal :gotigers
Rich 1.0-6
GWS 1.0-6
I'm surprise the ump didn't steal that off us as well for a free against the invisible man ::).
-
This ain’t good.
Umpires crucifying us early. :banghead
-
Not even close to a free kick, absolute disgrace of a decision.
:clapping
Exactly
-
Playing against the umps tonight. Absolute disgrace >:(.
-
Another dodgy free against Grimes for something that happens in every game ::),
Umps on the take tonight >:(.
-
Dumb footy by Hugo
-
Geez, here we go. The fix is in ladies and gentleman.
-
Cheating pricks. If this is what it's going to be like we have no hope.
-
Great pressure boys!
-
Good forward pressure. Graham wins the HTB free 40 out. Misses.
7 - 12
-
Great effort by Garthy there
-
Who was tap to CCJ? Straight to a Giant.
Then a mistackle on Taranto.
:banghead
7 - 18
-
Great by Gsrthy
Then let down by Hugo and the missed tackle by Stack :banghead
-
The stitch up is on! Umps looking for a big game …. :-\
-
We're getting smashed in the clearances. Lost every one.
Not getting numbers to the fall of the contest.
-
How the hell did Bolton allow his man to just run into space and take an uncontested mark
-
CCJ needs to smash players mot stop and let them get easy possession. :banghead
-
Another free bloke in their F50
Another uncontested mark
Now 3 goals down and look off yet again
Meaning Another slow, sloppy start :banghead
-
We're just stationary minding space in defence and allowing the Giants to run into the spaces in between :scream.
Too easy for 'em, Tigers :banghead.
7 - 25
-
Not looking good again. Getting picked apart while are marking our territory on the grass.
-
CCJ snap misses.
8 - 25
-
Geez that must have hurt them playing that free to Lynch.
-
We've just witnessed a miracle
Lynch got a free
He goals :gotigers
-
OMG! The umps finally saw a free to Lynch for over the shoulder. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 2.2-14
GWS 4.1-25
-
Can we actually get a centre clearance Tiges?! First hands again and we turn it over by hand again :scream.
-
Not liking Ralphsmith's game
Silly errors
-
Can we actually get a centre clearance Tiges?! First hands again and we turn it over by hand again :scream.
That was Cotch again
That's at least 3 now
-
Should I turn it on?
-
Don't know about others but I am bloody frustrated with what I'm watching
Sloppy, sloppy, bloody sloopy :help
-
Garthwaite pushed off the ball by a midfielder
Haha
-
Getting smashed everywhere. Midfield is nowhere to be seen when the ball hits the ground.
-
Maurice Jnr is way off the pace
-
Poor option Cotch kicking it to Maurice against the taller Haynes.
Then about 4 soft efforts in row. 3 to allow Haynes to get through then Garth being outbodied by a mid in Taranto and falling over :facepalm.
-
Another sloppy turnover by Lambert
-
Our fricking skills :banghead.
-
Doesn’t look like we want to play finals.
-
Clear HTB to us first and the ump waits to pay the a free to GWS ::). They get another goal out of it :banghead.
14 - 39
-
Nope, not up to it. Skills are brutal and our mids and defence is a rabble.
-
It ain’t just the umps ruining this game. :help :banghead
-
Just dumb by Dan Rioli
Didn't need to come in there, we would have got at least a stoppage
As a result gift them a goal
-
Embarrassing
-
Game over!
Season over!
-
What will it take for our mids to extract a digit?
It’s a massacre in the middle at the moment.
-
Clear HTB to us first and the ump waits to pay the a free to GWS ::). They get another goal out of it :banghead.
14 - 39
That's because Rioli infringed
Just stupid
45 to 14
Season on life support
-
Can't win Tiges if you allow them to waltz out of the centre every single time :banghead.
1/4 time
Richmond 2.2-14
GWS 7.3-45
Goals: Baker, Lynch.
Soft lazy mids and pathetic umpiring sums up that quarter :banghead.
-
Is there a reason why McIntosh wasn’t picked? Surely he is better than some of these other blokes?
-
There's no pressure yet again this week. This is going to be be a slaughter.
The mids are getting smashed. Our centre square work is a disgrace to put it bluntly.
-
Rioli Jnr a great story but he's not ready for this.
-
Is there a reason why McIntosh wasn’t picked? Surely he is better than some of these other blokes?
Ralphsmith is playing his role tonight and doing it very well at the moment
-
After everything we’ve known and the finals on the line and our mids dish up that level of poo allowing the easiest footy out of the middle I've seen since 2017 vs St Kilda.
They should be ashamed of themselves.
It looks as though they aren’t even trying to get the ball out.
-
Free Giants everywhere... :banghead
...Garthwaite.... :help
Umpires.... (https://metalneverbends.forumotion.com/users/3115/50/25/04/smiles/166726.gif)
-
Clear HTB to us first and the ump waits to pay the a free to GWS ::). They get another goal out of it :banghead.
14 - 39
That's because Rioli infringed
Just stupid
That sums up what is wrong with how the game is umpired now days. The Giants player had prior opportunity, got run down in the tackle and didn't dispose of it let alone dispose of it legally. That's when the free should be paid. Clear HTB. Umps should not be ignoring clear frees and waiting to pay a free from the resulting 3rd man in pile on.
-

Umpires.... (https://metalneverbends.forumotion.com/users/3115/50/25/04/smiles/166726.gif)
Our mids :banghead
-
Shank by Graham and no score :P.
Is it going to be one of those nights we use to regularly get in the 90s when finals were on the line :-\.
-
Can't also win Tiges if you can't make the distance from 40 out twice (Graham) :scream.
-
School boy skills out there and decision making point the fingers at the senior blokes.
-
Actually we able then to maintain possession.
Nice pass by Floss to Sheds 40 out. Goal! :gotigers
Saying we needed that is an understatement.
Rich 3.2-20
GWS 7.3-45
-
And we lose a follow up centre break. Goal
-
Another easy centre clearance to them that ends up resulting in a goal :banghead.
20 - 51
-
The youngsters are killing us. Not hard enough Hugo
-
Another goal from a centre clearance :banghead.
Can we protect the defensive side at stoppages, Tiges! Been the issue that's killed us all bloody year :banghead.
-
Our wingers aren’t running into the centre square with their man, and almost acting as the sweeper to protect the fast break. It’s cost us the last 2 goals.
-
And that play on the wing with Hugo sums us up. 3 Giants free forward of the contest and not a Tiger opponent near them. Mids not working hard enough to support each other.
We luckily get it back and get it forward to Lynch. Misses.
21 - 58
-
Rubbish!
We need some new mids. These blokes aren’t much chop really for centre clearance.
It’s not good enough.
No Dusty no clearances at all
-
Are we the only team who doesn't understand the stand rule? Another 50.
That's it, we're done.
-
A slaughter.
-
Have a good long break lads, recharge for next year and come back fit & firing.
-
Training drills out of the middle for GWS :thumbsdown.
-
It's been an unbelievable 4 years
We're done
Bring on 2022
-
I’ve never seen a worse centre clearance team. Why stick with the same guys in the middle game after game.
-
OMG! We actually won a centre clearance :gobdrop.
-
LMAO - going out with a whimper....Hardwick asleep at the wheel with no-one to save his arse....so fitting that Leppa's commentating... :shh
-
Yeah I’m done
-
Just embarrassing! :help
-
Time to clean house. Including coaches.
-
Cotch hobbling
-
Bending over for them
-
Yet again looking disinterested
-
Would actually prefer we lose next week too....firstly for better picks and secondly to avoid 6 months of 9th jokes...
-
We've actually had more possessions :o but 10 less inside 50s and 9 less goals. Handballing as much as we kick is always a bad sign. Just not doing anything or going anywhere with the ball while the Giants waltz inside 50 from stoppages for goals.
One percenters: 9 - 23 .... a stat we usually dominate shows our intensity and pressure is off.
-
Would actually prefer we lose next week too....firstly for better picks and secondly to avoid 6 months of 9th jokes...
Play like this and we will lose next week.
-
We actually kicked a goal. Baker set shot from 50.
Rich 4.3-27
GWS 12.5-77
-

Chucky...methinks a certain thread bump is in order.... :shh
-
Half-time
Richmond 2.2 4.3-27
GWS 7.3 12.5-77
Goals: Baker 2, Lynch, Edwards.
So we've kicked 1, 1, 2 & 4 goals in first halves over the past month. Not sure what our pre-game routine is but it ain't working.
-
Rest everyone over 27 years old next week.

we are a train wreck, can we play all the kids now.

Apparently all the assistant coaches are getting rested after next week.
-
Might play the ladder predictor and see how low we can finish.
-
Starting to think Norf tanked in the second half last week…
Anyway, hello rebuild my old friend!
-
Our season was shot to pieces after the insipid effort against the Suns
Been downhill since

-
Our game style needs changing this off season. Think we also need to change our clearance philosophy as we constantly get smashed week in week out. It's been an incredible ride and it's been so rewarding to be the best for multiple years, however change needs to happen, and fast.
-
Leon Cameron did his homework. Heavy tag on Prestia and our inside mid game turns to water. Only Cotch left to fly the flag.
Our cubs inexperience have been exposed tonight too.
Of our 'stars':
Jack has only touched the ball once (denied a goal from that BS free).
Bolton has 10 possies but only a paltry 13m gained from them.
6 Tigers with just 1 kick or less in a half: Jack, CCJ, Nank, Hugo and Maurice. Garth hasn't kick the ball once.
Parker has just 2 kicks. Edwards and Stack just 3 kicks.
Half them team with one tackle or less.
:help

They've been very poor.
Extremely disappointed in Dow.
Tough part is they are looking for leadership and there isn't any

The new rules especially require those forward of the ball to lead up at the kicker. We are too stationary.
Edit: I say that and Lynch takes a mark and kicks the goal :gotigers/

Always a risk when you play kids that they'll follow up a good one with a shocker...still the right decision to play them though...and perhaps less likely to be happening now had they been played earlier or like Hugo been kept in the side -can also work the other way as they can tire towards the end of a season but nonetheless... :shh

He believed whsy he was telling us too

Pinball footy by both sides.
Jack to Bolton 35 out. Misses.
40 - 96

Two Tigers both mistackle Whitfield trapped on the boundary and let him run away :facepalm.

Wow ,even the boundary umpires now.

Two Tigers both mistackle Whitfield trapped on the boundary and let him run away :facepalm.
That weak crap's been going on all year #rinserepeat.... :banghead
-
Being an average side again is going to take some getting used to.
I actually expect us to bounce back strongly in 2022
Depends on the hunger.
-
The game now is just chipping the ball around on the 45 degree. Been saying all year the game is almost ruined. They need to revert back some rules
-
3/4 time
Richmond 2.2 4.3 6.4-40
GWS 7.3 12.5 15.6-96
Goals: Baker 2, Lynch 2, Bolton, Edwards.

In fairness Whitfield was almost in the first row of the seats :o

I know that's why I reckon we bounce back
Everyone will be embarrassed by this season, especially the 2nd half of the year
Just so embarrassing

Still need to tackle properly which we haven't done for most of the year. Too many costly mistackles.
-

Not almost. Hocking has ruined the game- simple! How one man can do this to our great game is a travesty. The worst administrator to have ever been appointed by the AFL and that's saying something :banghead
-
The aim was to get Geelong a flag.

No one had a problem with the man on the mark for 160 years until that idiot decided to change it because he didn't like our pressure game :thumbsdown.

-
The one positive from finishing outside the Eight is we 'should' get an easier draw next year. Mind you that's no guarantee as our draw in the second half of this year was classed as easier :-\.
-
A lot of things have lined up against us this including the rules and age
We need to adapt / reboot / adjust as what we were doing no longer works
-
Garthwaite :lol :rollin
Why is he still on our list?
-

Their typical "waaah my team has been crap for such a long time so the game is boring" rather than blaming their own useless clubs for being crap.
-
This is going to sound crazy
But I do wonder what impact not having crowds has on our player's mindset?
We are worse when there is no crowds
I mean with crowds we've average
Without crowds we've been pathetic
-
CCJ goal :gotigers.

Miss Dusty being out there.

Buy I do wonder what impact not having crowds has on our player's mindset?
We are worse when there is no crowds

No crowds didn't affect us in the second half of last week.
We lost to the dud sides like the Saints, Suns, Pies & Freo with crowds.
We've just been crap this year. Injuries has wrecked our year as we've had to chop and change the side every week. Add that our midfield has become the worst in the league. We've been smashed in the clearances especially at centrebounces even by bottom sides which has seen us cough up runs of 5 to 6 goals. Tactically, we haven't protected the defensive side at contests and stoppages.
-
Been hearing it all year injuries , and umpiring etc valid points to a extent I agree , but whoever things that's the only reasons for 2021 your in fairyland bigtime .On the field and footy department need to reset and review board needs to back it up with $$ to beef up the footy department few quality assistant's to come in.
Go to the draft simple as that with the hand we got the quality picks for a regeneration and make the hard calls on a few senior players premiership players or club legends or not needs to be done.
-
Garthwaite :lol :rollin
Why is he still on our list?
It's quite strange. Time to move him on.

Prestia free 40 out. Misses.

Add goalkicking to our list of things to fix over the offseason.

Maurice to Bolton for a goal :gotigers.

This match has done absolutely nothing to change my mind about tackling being our biggest single issue if I had to pick one... :shh
-
Positives for the season.
- good draft position.
- Stack at half back.
- some fringe players will finally get delisted.
- early rest for the team.
- club can reset and get some quality assistance for Hardwick.
- we can get rid of some panic merchants
- signing Bolton
-
Bolton crumbs but slams it into the post from 30.
55 - 105
-
And GWS has more outs than us too, very disappointed tonight
-
One thing the comments guys have mentioned is that we might for the first time in years get the benifit of a full preseason. For once I agree with.them.
-
Disappointing with two outcomes involving Maurice.
He made a mistake by dropping a mark. Nobody went to him
Then assisted Bolton goal and nobody went to him to congratulate.
Sums up our finish to the year we can't do simple things like supporting a kid.
-
Garth actually got a kick .
Stack long and Jack marks. Goal! :gotigers

Yes some of those nuances that made us a great team of success was our team cohesion and unparalleled connection which has been almost lost this season.

Another mistackle but we eventually get it back.
Edwards low inside 50 and Maurice gathers and goals :gotigers.
Rich 10.7-67

Scoreboard flattering us in the end.

I agree about the reset
But with the footy department cap it isn't that easy to beef up $$. Yes they can spend over the cap but then they get slugged the tax. Can we afford it? Do we want to pay it?
Will no crowds again the Club is going to take a significant hit this year in revenues. Remember last year there was job keeper. Benny Gale said last year that 2021 and 2022 were going to be tougher financially than 2020.
So they it may be a case of they may want to but they can't afford to

Liked Baker, CCJ, Stack, Graham, Nank, D Rioli, Vlastuin, Prestia, grimes
Send the team to NZ and get them some tackling lessons.
Also need to address why we give away so many free kicks. This is a real issue.

Understand you mate , but we been loosing quality assistant's before covid and club decided not to replace them and then Leppa and Fly go to. I'm not going say it's a massive reason, but we all know what happened at the end of 2016 when when we made changes and beefed it up.
-
Um....c'mon.... Gold Coast.... :santa
And
Go FREO,
Give the Eagles the old heave ho :pray
LOL.
We would need:
Essendon have to lose to both Suns and Collingwood.
West Coast also have to lose both of their games to their little brother Freo without Brayshaw & Brisbane.
St Kilda loses to Geelong (likely) and beats Freo.
Freo beat Eagles and loses to St Kilda.
And we would have to beat Hawthorn in Clarkson's last game when we've won just 2 of our last 8.

garbage. Soft cap please.
check out swans assistant coaches then compare our duds. Better still have a look at the cats panel. Cap doesnt seem to be an issue over there. Then compare it to these duds.
Andrew McQualter. Assistant coach, midfield/offensive.
Adam Kingsley. Assistant coach, midfield/stoppage.
Xavier Clarke. VFL & Development coach, forwards.
Ivan Maric. Ruck coach.
Sam Lonergan. Development coach & VFL midfield.
Its clear leppa held the glue together for this team.
Dimma thought well who needs him we have X clarke and mcqualter. :lol :lol

I suspect we felt we didn’t need Leppa, because he doesn’t look like someone that was cooked.
Those 2 assistants I mentioned are rubbish. Going from truck caracella leppa to those 2 is like going from Miranda Kerr to Aranxta Sanchez
-
Big issue is the change of game where we can't cause forward turn overs.
With the stand rule and also the larger goal square we can't pressure the crap out of sides and get turn overs which was our main source of scoring between 2017 and 2019.
Our game plan and system needs a review, not thrown out completely but may need to shift some players to put another feather in our cap like ball users in midfield as out distribution is average, always has been but with chaos ball and the amount of time the ball spent in our forward half it didn't hurt us but this year we have been destroyed as we can't force turnovers with uncontested footy gone up massively.
-
Does anyone else see that our zoning the whole ground is the problem?
It's almost obsolete....it's clear the AFL are trying to contrive a return to one-on-one footy but so far in their typically hamfisted way all they've succeeded in doing is turning the game into a hybrid of kick-to-kick and netball..... :shh

We had to cut 3 million out of footy department spend. In our case the bubble breach fines meant we had to cut deeper
So people had to go
Contracts are funny things. If you stuff someone who has one you have to pay them out. It goes into the cap
McCrae and Leppa were both out of contract, the others weren't. Exactly what do think we should have done remembering they had cut out $3 million?
I would think it's obvious that if all of them were out of contract then who stayed and who went would have been different
Caracella left the year before because he got a mega offer from the Bombers. McCrae got an offer from Hawthorn
I would Absolutely love for the 3 of them to still be there but I don't think it is a simple as saying why didn't we retain them
-
Didn't our football department buy a couple of players a $100,000 souvlaki up in Brissy last year?
Maybe there was a better use for that money? :P

So then you go to the remaining coaches and tell them to take a hair cut.
No one can tell me it was purely leppa who wanted a “break”
We most likely offered him peanuts as we just won a flag.
Our coaching panel has been exposed, and is on full display.

Welll no because from all reports he needed a “break”. You may know different then those reports are wrong.
Trust me it won’t happen again next year, or we are going down further. What we have left is vfl standard.

the Hawks spend more $$$ on McRae obviously a better offer than ours and the Hawks need to pay for a Clarkson that won’t be there next year.
They like Sydney & Geelong don’t seem to have the same soft cap issue that WP seems to go on about.

You are aware that since June there have been no crowds in Mleb and before that capped crowds. You do understand that no crowds mean no dollars from gate receipts.
So that is a major revenue hit.
Our other non pokies revenue comes from Aligned Leisure. You know gyms? Those things that when we are in lockdown aren't allowed to open?
And yes we made a profit last year, helped by over $10 million (checked & confirmed) received via job keeper. That won't be there.
So despite having 105k+ members we will not be generating the same revenues as last year so yes there is a gap.
Didn't think it would be that hard to workout ::)
I'll leave it there. There's more i could say but I wont
-
WP if we are feeling the pinch , with over 100,000 members surely every other club is too? Or is it our unique situation?
-
Ive got no doubt in my mind that the whole Dimma affair issue played a significant part in Leppa leaving.
That along with it being a hard year away from home and being away from family.
-
WP if we are feeling the pinch , with over 100,000 members surely every other club is too? Or is it our unique situation?
Every club would be feeling the pinch
Not one club is paying over the soft cap amount. Not one.
Every club has had to let people go from another areas ...every club.
Other strong clubs have spoken about the impact the soft cap reductions have had on their footy departments. Less coaches doing more work with many saying it's in the recruiting & development space where it being felt the most.
Every Club made cuts but in different areas. Maybe ours cuts were in the wrong place, I don't know. Clearly some people on here think it was around our assistant coaches. But as I said Contracts are funny things, when someone has one you are sort of backed into a corner a fair bit
So no, I don't think it unique to our Club
TBH I am expecting that more clubs will make losses this year than they did last year.
Ive got no doubt in my mind that the whole Dimma affair issue played a significant part in Leppa leaving.
TFL you're entitled to your view, totally respect it
But I am in no doubt that it had absolutely nothing to do with Leppa leaving

From Fox Footy:
“The moment has finally arrived,” Riewoldt told Fox Footy post-game. “We’ve been waiting, we’ve been wondering … that is as spiritless a performance as we’ve seen for Richmond, considering the stakes. In the first half, they were nowhere near it.
“History is undefeated – and tonight it showed.”
Triple premiership Lion Jonathan Brown said it appeared the Tigers “have lost hope”, while Melbourne champion Garry Lyon said the “stark reality” was the Tigers had lost seven of their past nine games.
“It would appear that the reign is over after as good a four-year block as you’re ever going to have in footy – and that’s not being disrespectful,” Lyon told Fox Footy.
Former Hawthorn sharpshooter Ben Dixon pointed out the Tigers conceded 27 points from centre bounces against the Giants and couldn’t score themselves from that source.
“They’ve gone from predator to prey and they are getting hunted,” Dixon told Fox Footy’s First Crack.
“They were scary two years ago and everyone that came up against the Tigers knew if you didn’t use the ball well, turnover scores and they were going to get punished. That’s just gone off a cliff. Their turnover scores, their pressure and ability to stop an opposition is gone.
“Not only have they lost their defensive action and hunger, they’ve lost it in the middle of the ground in structure. They’re actually falling apart a bit here. The wheels are off for finals, but you don’t want the cart to fall apart too and start getting your bum on the gravel.”
“They’ve had a great system for a long time, but everyone’s caught up. Now the competition’s so even … the system itself is not standing up.

Gate receipts - which club is benefiting from gate receipts this season?
Why wouldn’t hawthorn or Geelong or Sydney be as concerned with soft cap especially the Hawks considering the large payout they have to give to Clarkson? Sydney added to their football department. Geelong have kept all their assistants from last season. Hawks poached McRae.
How about answering the questions I asked you instead of ignoring them and answering question I didn’t ask?
If we pay over the cap, so what! We pay the tax, so what!
We still have more members than any other club paying their membership fees so the club might take a hit but all clubs are taking hits. Some just choose to not let it effect their footy department.

First up to confirm in 2020 we received over $10 million from jobkeeper. In 2021 we don't have that or gate receipts. It is money we don't have coming in this year. Do you understand that?
You are right Hawthorn will be paying Clarkson next year if he doesn't get another job. So Hawthorn are going to have to manage their cap next year. Can't see them paying over the limit or the tax.
You do realise that the clubs you seem to be obsessed with to make your argument were not paying the full cap last year like we were? So if the cap was 9 Mil in 2020 and you were only paying 8.0 mil or less then cutting back to 6mil is a bit easier than slashing 3 million?
Further to that Sydney added Pyke but got rid of people out of their academy and cut costs in that area. Geelong kept their assistants but they carried less than what we did. Even Scott has lamented how the cuts have impacted on their entire footy department
So you tell me if you have to cut 3 million out of your footy department spend how do you keep everyone in every area? Oh that's right you just keep spending 9 million, pay a tax even if you don't have the money to do it. It doesn't matter right? So what right?
It won't matter until of course the Club reports losses and then people will jump up and down and say how the hell did that happen?
You seem to think that because we have 100k+ members it somehow equals an endless money pit. It doesn't
Yes they can pay over the cap, yes they can pay tax but it cannot be at the risk of being financially irresponsible in the current climate. Our Club has worked far too hard to build its financial strength. The CEO has said many times this year and next year are going to be tough financially for us with the restrictions in place. Clearly the Club intends to not spend what it doesn't have.
But hey, let's spend more than we earn, it doesn't matter right? So what?

I understand your point mate , but you need quality assistant's we have let go 4 in space of 2 years and replaced one in Kingsley 2 went prior covid to correct Rutten and Blake .Like I said proof is in the pudding when we attracted quality assistant's back in 2016.You can see we're undermanned in the coaches box some coaches taking on 2 roles sorry for club of our status ,success and membership not acceptable add to that Emma Murray has been cut back to.

AFL Report Card: Round 22
Foxsports
16 August 2021
RICHMOND
Some teams come down gradually from their peak - the Tigers have fallen through the floor over the last two months. They were mercilessly thumped by a team that looks set to potentially do some damage come finals time rather than limp in as the Tigers would’ve done. There were junktime goals that brought the margin back to a somewhat respectable loss but it was anything but.
In the votes
Jayden Short and Trent Cotchin were both prolific and Daniel Rioli at halfback has been a great move by Damien Hardwick. Shai Bolton kicked a couple of goals and looked better than he has in recent weeks, while Liam Baker couldn’t have done much more.
Room for improvement
Some moments of ill-discipline gave the Giants a 12-point swing early in the match, with Tom Lynch’s free kick against denying Jack Riewoldt a goal while Dylan Grimes’ elbow to the back of Harry Himmelberg was just plain stupid. Jack Riewoldt was barely sighted up forward while in defence it was a scoring frenzy against the Tigers. Intercept marks were few and far between and it was just a sluggish and disappointing display from a side with everything to play for.

Our wingers aren’t running into the centre square with their man, and almost acting as the sweeper to protect the fast break. It’s cost us the last 2 goals.
They pointed this out on The First Crack last night.
Our wings were standing 15m away defensive side from their GWS opponents and then would run towards our backline while the GWS wingmen were left free. We tried it three times and it cost us a goal all three times :P.
St Kilda also tried it against Geelong and it cost them a goal. Clearly a dud idea!
