As much as Gas and Hall add experience and size in our defence against Kingsley, Steven Johnson, Playfair and Ottens resting forward, we sacrifice speed and skill particularly in Gas' case bringing them both in. Even if Gas was fit he most likely would have sat out most of the Crows' game on the bench anyway with the need for good foot skills playing that "keepings off" gameplan across the backline.
The Cats supposedly are going to add pace with David Wojcinski, Shannon Byrnes and Andrew Mackie likely to be brought in. They aren't household names but the latter two got away from us in round 1 last year. We don't want to spoil our ability to quickly rebound out of our backline and through the midfield, which apart from the Swans game have been very good the past 5 weeks, thinking too much about how we'll match-up against the height in Geelong's forward line.
Thoughts?
-
It's becoming more and more evident that this side cannot carry Gaspar anymore.
Nevertheless, I'd bring him back in with Hall, we need the height. I'd only play Gaspar for half a game maybe as a 'pinch hitter' defender, if one of their forwards looks like getting away from us.
Hall is in our best 18 I reckon and should be straight back in.
One worry is that Ablett jr has had a few quiet weeks and is due, who do you think might get him?
-
I'd put Rainesy on Ablett jnr after keeping Riccuito to just 4 possies with Razor on Kingsley, Joel gets Steve Johnson and Chubba gets Playfair. Possibly Hartigan on Chapman?
Steven King is out apparently so Ottens will be up against Simmo in the ruck. Go Simmo :gotigers.
-
imn rnd 1 when we got thumped last yr, newman kiled ablett, and was the only winner on the day 4 us, i would play newman on ablett and give raines a harder task as i think he thrives on the challenge. give raines the job on chapman, and harts the gig on mackie.
gas should not come in the side, he must earn his spot and razor, do we really need him v geelong.
mooney is also sus with a quad and i think its gonna be a fast game and paddy can play dwn back if needed. maybe put razor on the bench, but really who do u drop. u have to reward last weeks team with an unchanged line up.
its time ppl started earning their spots and not given a spot based on reputation
i will be happy if our team remained unchaged, patoo is another option down back and have noticed he has placed in defence attimes for the burgers.
this is teh game that i feel bling, lids and meyer will thrive, i remember rnd 22 last yr, lids and bling had gr8 games and recall bling taking on the cats and running off them. these 3 kids are fast and i reckon will expose the cats. then u have polo and foley who are both good in and under and polo is quicker than he looks also. add tuck and cogs and an inform krak, we should win this game. knob, simmo and patterson will dominate the air and ruck and cr8 nightmare matchups 4 the cats.
if anything, drop tiv 4 razor, but even thats cruel as tiv was pretty good tagging last week.
these are good headaches.
about sugar, i dont even think he is aby value 4 us, in th emidfeild or as a leader, sorry mt.
its easy to see that richo and joel both are the true captains of our team. sugars skill level is also slowing up and putting our midfeild down.
i really hope that next yr , there is a captaincy change, keep sugar in the leadership group if need be but we need to look fwd . this is his 2nd yr at it, and reg injury, its enough time to see he iisnt the man to wear no17.
we need a fast slick and full on attcking team, players like gas and sugar wil just cre8 more stop start footy. the kids seem to play well together and dont seem to make all the mistakes the senior group often do, and the kids have adapted to terrys plan far better.
keep an unchanged line up in my opinion

Reckon Hartigan is mighty unlucky - I think he's been OK the last few weeks.
No surprises with the "Ins" ;)
-
I reckon Harts is unlucky too WP. Okay he didn't do hardly anything last week with only 5 possies but his form before that wasn't too bad. Wallace must have read X's post on letting Lids, Blingers and Meyer run riot over the Cats. I thought Danny would get dropped ahead of Hartigan.
Still a pretty solid line-up through the lines in terms of match-ups with Geelong.

With the exception of McGuane which was a selection based on (IMHO) the need for height more so than the kid being ready for senior footy I don't think any of our kids (2004 & 2005 drafted kids) will be dropped after 1 game. I reckon the plan is to give at least 2 possibly 3 to give then some experience and confidence

The only thing that makes me nervous about Newman on Ablett is if Bomber Thompson pushes Ablett close to goal. I agree X Rainesy would be a good match-up on Chapman but he is now our best small forward stopper whereas Newman isn't.

true mt, but isnt it fantastic how we have options now! thats what i like about how our team is developing. i think lids bling and meyer will all have blinders, and krak too. lets hope they dont let me dwn and make me look like a fool............ prob too late hey1 lol

True X. Our Depth isn't quite there yet and probably still 2 years away but at least now it's talented youth under Wallace who are showing what they've got to offer :thumbsup instead of recycled duds under Spud taking us nowhere year after year.

Johnson, Hall return
7:10:56 PM Thu 25 May, 2006
Exclusive to richmondfc.com.au
Richmond has named skipper Kane Johnson and defender Ray Hall for this Saturday's clash against Geelong at Skilled Stadium.
Johnson has missed the past three matches with a hamstring injury while Hall has been sidelined for the previous two rounds due to calf soreness.
The Tigers have dropped the versatile Daniel Jackson and defender Brent Hartigan, while key backman Darren Gaspar, who has only played three matches this season because of a hamstring injury, is an emergency, along with the uncapped Matthew White and Jackson.
But Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong said Johnson and Hall needed to prove their fitness on Friday in order to play this weekend.
"They both trained well on Wednesday, but they both have to get through the last training session on Friday," Armstrong told richmondfc.com.au.
On Gaspar, Armstrong said: "We couldn't put three players in the side who are under an injury cloud."

not even on league teams and the footy show!!!
can u believe gary lyon the d i c k saying we are not in form!!
i think many ppl are judging this game based on history, but recent history says we only lost by a pont last yr, and since then we are a better team imo.
i really hope we win, living in geelong will be sweet if we do! and i am confident we wont just win , i am confident we will win comfortably as long as we jump out of the blocks in the first quarter and crush the pussies confidence.
remember the days when the bombers, hawks and cats had feild days v us, well they are over!
lloyd , the bomber tool, just picked the cats cos he hates us and no other reason, davey picked the cats because he was licking lloyds balls all night being a footy show virgin he was nervous and a sheep, sam and billy are cats so u can understand that, but lyon the d head, u would think he would have a mind of his own but still followed the others!
that was the first footy show i have seen in 3 yrs or so, and wont ever watch it again

but two is acceptable ?
Moron.
Screw Johnson man,he'll just rip the heart out of what they have been able to achieve the last 3 weeks without his rudderless leadership.

i agree! his disposal is poor also.
i reckon the tigers should really consider dropping him as captain at yrs end. he is slow and only drags our team down.
the tigers were brainwashed when we picked him, just because he played in a premiership team, btw , that premiership team carried him and he was prob the worst player on that list skill wise.
we should chase cousins! he has 5 or more yrs left in him and is a true leader on the feild where it counts and has gr8 skills! i would hand cousins the captaincy if he came over! that may upset or offend some ppl, but he is exactly what we ned in our midfeild, hey judd would be handy too , but i like cousins!
but
i really think white will debut and sugar wont pass fitness test, word has it his hammy isnt just quite right, fingers crosed
-
I think we have to keep a very close eye on the return of Monica. Before his lengthy stint on the sidelines with injury, he was a gun and could damage us off the bench. I hope Cogs doesn't get him. :pray

All got through training although I've heard whispers about White too X.
Btw I didn't see Sugar out there when the Swans smashed us in the midfield and pumped us by 118 points. Remember it was Johnson and Joel playing across HB that was the major reason we almost got across the line last year at Kardinia Park.

Field umpires: McBurney, Davis, Chamberlain
I don't know who's worse - McLaren or McBurney :scream :help

lol, so true mt
and on channel 10 sugar implied he iss ready and the team has lifted its intensity also. sugar as i believe will play, unless they are playing funny games

Thanks for that X.
According to Cats Claw, 3AW through Craig Hutchinson said that Ablett is rumoured not to be playing tomorrow. Pulled up from some sort of injury at training during the week.

Cloud over Geelong with Riccardi out
27 May 2006 Herald Sun
Scott Gullan
GEELONG veteran Peter Riccardi is out of today's crucial clash with Richmond at Skilled Stadium.
Riccardi was ruled out last night because of a strained calf while there is speculation star forward Gary Ablett is also under a cloud.
Geelong high performance manager Steve Hocking confirmed Riccardi had not come up for the club's season-defining match against the Tigers.
But Hocking was confident Ablett would line up.
"He'll play," Hocking said.
Ablett suffered a knock to his knee during a marking contest on Wednesday night and immediately left the training track.
Only 15 Cats joined in light training yesterday with Ablett away from the main group and restricted to stationary skills.
Richmond officials are expecting at least one other change from Geelong with their suspicions heightened by a late change to the Cats' emergencies yesterday.
Young ruckman Mark Blake was replaced by forward Charlie Gardiner on the emergency list.
The Cats were last night still deciding whether pacy rover Mathew Stokes or midfielder Paul Koulouriotis will come in to replace Riccardi.
Another making his debut for the Cats today is new club doctor Chris Bradshaw who has returned to Australia after a two-year stint with English soccer club Fulham.
Bradshaw, who previously headed up Richmond's medical team, said he had learned a lot overseas which he hoped could help Geelong overcome a recent bad history of soft-tissue injuries.
"I now have some fairly firm ideas on how not to do stuff from a sports medicine point of view," Bradshaw said.
"With Richo (Matthew Richardson) at Richmond we found that if you keep him on the track he doesn't break down as much.
"You have to tread a fine line. At Richmond for a while there we probably went the wrong way and put too much emphasis on recovery and holding blokes back rather than running them a bit more.
"It's all about treading that fine line and treading it successfully, and Geelong seem to have a good handle on it."

Who will play on Ling? Remember Ling's comments from a couple of years ago, having no respect for the Tigers. He always seems to have a field day against us. Where's Tim Fleming when you need him?
