That fwd line is laughable five players between 182cm and 179cm with Mate Colina a 213cm basketballer who is not a footballer per say.
Seems in the two's they don't need good structure but are still expected to thrive.

-
Well that was a great start - NOT! :P Samson gives away a free to start and then Biggie spilled the mark in defence.
0 - 6
-
Mate clunking good mark at CHF. Hands off to Maurice who nails it on the run from 45 :gotigers.
Rich 1.0-6
Werr 1.0-6
-
Why not wait to see if we mark it at CHF for the advantage?
-
Perfect tackle paid push in the back :facepalm.
-
Perfect tackle paid push in the back :facepalm.
The umpiring infection that began in the AFL has also reached VFL level. This is the first VFl match I have watched in a long time; I was hoping to see some 'normal' footy but it is infested with the same cultural poo as the parent company.
The only good thing I can think of when it comes to the AFl turning into a giant steaming dog turd is that it must surely be good for local and regional footy clubs and the pie vans that rely on their patrons.
What level do I have to watch to get some decent, no-nonsense footy?
-
Ryan winning the rucks but palms or hand passes to opposition every time. :help
-
Schoolboy errors and poor defending once again :P.
6 - 14
-
Ryan winning the rucks but palms or hand passes to opposition every time. :help
Yeah he'd be better to just throw it on the boot himself rather than dinky handball it to a guy under serious heat who is just gonna throw it on the boot anyway.
-
George wins the HTB free (ump took long enough to pay it). Misses.
7 - 15
-
Martyn crapped his pants. Not a good sign
-
Can we handball more to teammates under pressure?! It's really working a treat :facepalm.
-
Another goal to them. No pressure from us.
7 - 22
-
Not sure what our plan is. Our ball movement and decision making is atrocious.
-
Says a lot about Samson tonight that the first clearance we get was when Ross took the throw-in :P.
-
Ross absolutely butchering it.
-
Not sure what our plan is. Our ball movement and decision making is atrocious.
Continually turning it over seems to be the gameplan tonight :help
-
Mansell to Samson on the lead. 45m out near the boundary. OOTF! :P.
-
Good run and receive by Banks out of defence. Goes to Bauer who in turn kicks it inside 50. Off hands to Samson but his grubber kick misses.
Quarter time
Richmond 1.2-8
Werribee 3.4-22
Goal: M.Rioli
One word summary: "Crap!"
-
Tom Brown and Sam Banks behind the ball look okay.
-
Can anybody anybody enlighten me to the purpose behind Wednesday night football
You’ve got to be stuffing kidding me
I’m watching but duck me
-
Terrible quarter.
Stack unsighted. RCD ineffective. Ryan taps to opposition. Dow unsighted.
Very lacklustre it looks as though the whole team has the flu or something. :banghead
Brown looks good Ross lively and is all over the ground but his disposal is terrible as is everyone else.
Miller is ok.
Castagna still can’t kick in the VFL either. :rollin
-
Firstly, Wednesday night is stupid.
Colina looks ok at this stage, couple of nice marks.
Agree with the mids, butchering it and panicking under pressure.
Weribee look the better side clearly at this stage
No breeze at all, no advantage either way
-
Possies: (which ignores missing targets :facepalm )
Ross 12
Miller 9
Brown 7
Castagna 5
M.Rioli 5
Ryan 5

Biggies 4

Team stats:
Disposals even but we're handballing as much as we are kicking which is a bad sign.
Clearances even.
Inside 50: 10 - 17
Tackles: 8 - 14 .... very soft that qtr.
Hitouts: 12 - 5 but we're doing nothing with this advantage apart from Samson handing Werribee the ball.
Frees: 5 - 5
https://www.afl.com.au/vfl/matches/4259#team-stats
-
LOL. Werribee players haven't been standing properly on the mark yet we get pinged the first time we do it ::).
-
Gee the lighting is sub standard
-
Gee the lighting is sub standard
Thank god it is. Our skills are crap
-
OK, now Tom Brown is butchering it too.
Samson Ryan our best deliverer by foot? (Even if our worst by hand.)
Not good lol.
LACKLUSTRE was spot on.
-
3 straight turnovers coming out of defence :banghead so we inevitable gift them a shot on goal. Lucky the shot fell short.
-
Gee the lighting is sub standard
just like our disposal
-
I think our newbie is playing in the black fella (don’t know his name) for Werribee and is getting his pants pulled down.
-
Oh man we really suck tonight.
That was amateur hour on the last line.
-
OK, now Tom Brown is butchering it too.
Samson Ryan our best deliverer by foot? (Even if our worst by hand.)
Not good lol.
LACKLUSTRE was spot on.
Brown is a concern
-
The lights here are pathetic.
-
Stupid Noah. Took the mark in the centre and then tried a cute handball while on the ground and gave it straight to Werribee.
Sonsie with an airy top of their goalsquare.
Playing like we don't care :help.
8 - 24
-
I'm now thinking that it must not have taken much for Judson to distinguish himself in this team!
Nice couple of minutes from Mansell.
-
Forward line throw-in. Mansell gets the free 35 out. Goal! :gotigers
Understatement to say we needed that. Against the run of play too.
Rich 2.2-14
Werr 3.6-24
-
I don’t think we have invested into the VFL either. What’s with our development at the club. The girls don’t have a VFLW our VFL team has poor development.
RCD hasn’t been able to develop properly. Stack seems to have gone backwards despite his natural talent. Is Morris any good at coaching?
-
Castagna with the center clearance!
Are we doing a Jayden Short with him?! Throw him into the center against the Blues!
-
Henderson injured his ankle. Coming off.
-
Castagna with the center clearance!
Are we doing a Jayden Short with him?! Throw him into the center against the Blues!
Blues would love that. Their mids would just let him kick it handball it :rollin
-
Castagna with the center clearance!
Are we doing a Jayden Short with him?! Throw him into the center against the Blues!
Hope not. Short's kicking is long and laser like. Castagna's kicking is like a out of control sprinkler :P.
-
Castagna with the center clearance!

Blues would love that. Their mids would just let him kick it handball it :rollin
I guess when you've excelled in one position for so long, well, the great players--they need a new challenge and to add a string to their bow!
-
Ffs why can't players tackle anymore.
This game is stuffed all the way down to VFL now.
Just horseshite.
-
Not sure what Morris is instructed to do. George in the middle :help stack is being wasted, just terrible coaching.
-
Meanwhile the stupid umpire takes a good 15 seconds to deliver the center bounce every time. I forgot--it's all about them.
Just throw it up, get out of the way, and let the men play football please idiot.
-
Ross can’t kick or handball :banghead
-
Werribee player drives his head forward into the tackle and the ump gives him the free for too high ::).
-
Ffs why can't players tackle anymore.
This game is stuffed all the way down to VFL now.
Just horseshite.
Back in the day I used to watch every game. But nowadays I struggle to get through a full Richmond game it’s so hard to watch most of the time. The skills, the rules, the adjudication, the ball movement at all poo.
The mid to late 90’s was the pinnacle of footy.
-
Another made up free gifts them a goal ::).
14 - 37
-
Such a bad game to watch. Our team is just terrible. If i was Stack i would walk off……

Same. I remember watching the AFL then chucking a random VFL game on and watching that too because it was just good to watch the footy. It made you feel good to watch footy. These days it makes me feel the world has gone to poo to watch footy--that I'm a sane guy in an insane asylum. The lack of real conversation about it among the "sports journalists" is equally maddening.
-
18 professional players getting flogged by part time players. My goodness
-
Umpires are stuffen clueless
-
Umpires are stuffen clueless
Nothing to do with the umps tonight. We have been absolutely pathetic. Embarrassing by all and the coaching department.
-

To be fair, I think both statements are true.
We have been poo.
The umpires have also been poo.
-
Dow out of the middle. Off hands and Cumberland roves a goal on the siren :gotigers.
20 - 43
-
Not worried about the umps. More concerned about us looking lazy, unskilled and undisciplined.
-
Half-time
Richmond 1.2 3.2-20
Werribee 3.4 6.7-43
Goals: M.Rioli, Mansell, Cumberland.
Pathetic in all departments. Lucky to be 'only' 23 pts down.
-
Umpires are stuffen clueless
Nothing to do with the umps tonight. We have been absolutely pathetic. Embarrassing by all and the coaching department.
2 goals dreamt up by the umps…..turn it up. They are stuffen hopeless
-
I wonder what Ryan is telling his mids before the centre bounce?
“I’m gonna tap it to the opposition so you tackle them to force another stoppage” :rollin
Or
“Im gonna take possession and handpass it wildly in any direction so be ready!” :rollin
-
Not sure why we continue with Martyn playing in the backline. George playing on ball with Ross means turnover city. Players playing small forward without the opportunity to play high are just wasted. Brown doesn’t look good under pressure or when he needs to put his body on the line.
-

Yeah but how about the players, beyond hopeless that half.
-
Watching this game we should’ve taken the bloke that’s playing on Bauer, William I think, very impressive and dominating out of their defence.
Not a great debut so far.

We're playing like a team that arrogantly thinks they shouldn't be playing on a cold Wednesday night.
Less than one tackle per player in a half of footy is damning.
A team not working for each other and not willing to do the bread and butter hard stuff.
Aarts, Cumberland, Martyn and Stack playing like they know their papers are stamped.
-
Watching this game we should’ve taken the bloke that’s playing on Bauer, William I think, very impressive and dominating out of their defence.
Not a great debut so far.
The way the ball is being moved and butchered by us tonight Bauer probably wishes he was back at North Adelaide. He also doesn't know our gamestyle (even if we were playing it well).
Colina likewise. If he doesn't mark it which as been most of the time he's out of the play once it hits the ground.
Both will need time.
-
Biggie was good that quarter as was Miller but I’d like to see Miller kick it more as he’s got great foot skills. Brown is lively but he’s wayward by foot.
Our defence is under the pump pretty much the whole first half.
Not much else to be pleased with.
Colina looked good in the first minute and haven't seen him since.
Is Stack playing? Very disappointing has everything going for him but it looks like he’s not there. I don’t get it. If only I had his ability back in the day :banghead
All our mids are pretty poor.
-
The more I watch AFL the less interested I become
The rules and umpiring has ruined the game
Shocking is a stuffen campaigner along with Gilligan and the crappy twins
-
Watching this game we should’ve taken the bloke that’s playing on Bauer, William I think, very impressive and dominating out of their defence.
Not a great debut so far.
In fairness he is playing his first game at a new club. Learning a new game plan and his more seasoned aren't helping at all
Umpires are stuffen clueless
Nothing to do with the umps tonight. We have been absolutely pathetic. Embarrassing by all and the coaching department.
Embarrassing is the word that comes to mind.
-
George trying to hit the roof with his kicks.
They shouldn't be playing on a Wednesday night so I don't blame them really.
The facility in its current state other than the surface is embarrassing
-

Fair enough. Just stating the facts though.
We need a ball movement coach. It’s bloody terrible.

Ryan to Sonsie out of the middle. Free to Colina 25 out. Misses. Kicked it like a basketballer :P.

And that is what is wrong with the rules right now. That was HTB but is paid a throwing tackle :facepalm.
-
Do they have these stupid rules in the SANFL? Bauer sucked in on the mark by the faked handball.
-
Just when you think we couldn't do things any worse we do :help.
That was pathetic by Samson and Miller to allow a chest mark in the goalsquare.

In fact we have dropped the ball on development since Covid at all levels. McRae was a huge loss, we haven’t replaced them with any quality.
We don’t look fit either.

Part of the problem is our VFL listed players. We lost so much quality and experience and replaced it with ....ummmm....err not much

Explains why SA footy is very watchable.

What about WAFL? Is WAFL footy watchable?
It is when Fyfe is playing in it. :rollin

These commentators aren’t much chop. More mistakes than the umpires. :help
-
Biggie looking disinterested. We are so undisciplined
-
And Ross must go
-
Umpire #32 is hopeless. Gets sucked in to give a free for every little contact accentuated by Werribee players :facepalm.
-
Werribee defensive turnover to Stack on 50 who passes it to Young on the boundary. Goal!
Rich 4.4-28
Werr 10.9-69

Gee
Haven’t watched much VFL this year
Don’t seem to have any passion or effort at all this team
The stupid rules and adjudications make it nigh on impossible to watch also
Our game is being destroyed

Whistle happy Umpire #32 has paid the baulk of those against us ::).
Werribee has had over twice as many inside 50s btw: 23 - 50 and far more tackles 32 - 44 despite far more of the ball :help.
-
How can you play three quarters and have only three touches?
It’s mindboggling. Has stock forgot how to play? How can you lose it so badly?
What a waste. :banghead :banghead
RCD (8), Dow (5) , Sonsie (11) have been very poor. :help
-
Thank Dimma
-
Blatant trip against Ross = no free.
We've been woeful and deserve to lose badly tonight but that doesn't excuse this disgraceful biased umpiring.
-
Bad turnover coming out of defence by Werribee and RCD finds Bauer 35 out. Goal! His first as a Tiger at any level :gotigers.
Rich 5.4-34
Werr 11.10-76

Even the commentators are talking about the frees we don't get paid.
Anyway, Ross finds RCD 48 out. Misses.

How can so many mids be this poor? Absolutely terrible.

Worried about tomorrow night :-\.

Thank Dimma
For what? Stack’s failure to apply himself consistently? Maybe he should take some responsibility himself.

Werribee 3.4 6.7 10.9 13.13-91
Goals: Bauer 3, M.Rioli 2, Mansell, Cumberland, Young.
-
Terrible performance. Really disappointing.
Absolutely smashed in the middle despite Ryan getting first touch but all were ineffective. I’m not a fan of his
Ross got a lot of ball and was keen to take them on but his disposal is atrocious.
All our mids were very poor and disappointing. Not one could get something going.
Miller our best by a country mile he had a lot of the ball because the ball was mostly in our defensive half.
Good to see Bauer get his hands on the ball and snag some goals in the last
The “Richmond way” non existent. Pressure and tackling was below standard.
Personally particularly disappointed with Stack, Mansell, RCD and Dow
-
Ross must have played well and dominated right as its VFL? Those blokes who gushed over him after a few games could we get please get a quick snapshot of his performance since that infamous game.

Can anyone explain why they keep putting RCD in forward line of extended periods?
Makes no sense
But then again there was alot of positional moves that made zero sense

VFL Tigers go down to Werribee
Richmond showed early promise, but were ultimately no match for a well-oiled Werribee outfit at Punt Road Oval on Wednesday night.
By Brenton Mann
Richmond Media
9 June 2022
From Hawaii to Punt Road Oval.
Mate Colina was used to wading in the sultry waters of Waikīkī; on Wednesday night he found himself making his VFL debut against Werribee on an icy and still mid-week night.
Colina got the crowd buzzing after a telescopic mark on the paint of 50, the giant key forward couldn’t resist Maurice Rioli Jnr streaming passed, hitting Rioli with a handball, who then composed himself to kick the Tigers’ first.
The category B rookie played out three-and-a-half quarters, splitting his time between forward and ruck and got through his first hit-out unscathed ready to tackle next week.
The round 12 contest under lights showed early promise for Richmond, unfortunately the well-oiled machine that is Werribee held the Tigers at arm’s length, clinching a 37-point win.
The Tigers of the south-west had answers to all the questions asked by their hosts, the final score reading 13.13 (91) to 8.6 (54).
Werribee showed its intent from the outset, blasting the ball inside 50 from the opening bounce and nailing the first goal.
Rioli’s goal followed and the faithful started to warm-up before the Tigers from down the Princes Highway slotted back-to-back goals.
Richmond arrested back momentum as Colina provided a beacon in the front half.
Unfortunately for the home side, they couldn’t garner momentum on the scoreboard as Werribee took a 14-point lead into quarter time.
Jacob Bauer would have been a little more accustomed to the conditions he encountered in his Yellow and Black debut.
The springy key forward from North Adelaide made the move from Sydney to the SANFL powerhouse to put himself in an “elite environment” which culminated in Bauer finding his way to Tigerland.
Bauer warmed into his role in the second term, launching himself at the ball in the air, crashing packs and exerting his physical influence.
The mid-season draftee gave the Tiger Army something to cheer about in the final term, as Bauer marked with authority inside 50 and then pierce the ball through the teeth of goal.
His first major was just an entrée, with Bauer providing a focal point in attack, showcasing his marking prowess and veracity in front of goal.
Three goals in his first outing as a Tiger showed promise of things to come.
Another SANFL product, Rhyan Mansell injected life into Richmond early in the second term, putting his head over the ball inside forward 50 and drawing a free kick for his troubles.
Importantly for the Tigers, Mansell watched the canary yellow Sherrin sail through the goals into the night sky.
Werribee sensed the Tigers turning the tide and swiftly piled on three majors to push the margin out to 29 points.
Richmond’s effort couldn’t be questioned, but its execution in transition and ability to win contests forward of the ball were lacking, which meant it couldn’t keep the ball trapped in its half.
Trailing by 29 points, in the shadows of half-time, Noah Cumberland skated onto a loose ball in the Royal Hotel pocket and sliced through his first major in sync with the siren.
The goal and hope flickering for the Tigers as they entered the main break, intent of changing their fortunes.
The script remained unchanged however, with Werribee flexing its muscle and maximising its chances inside 50 with four goals for the third term.
Richmond changed the complexion of the game briefly late in the third term as Sam Banks kickstarted a chain from the back-half, which led to Sydney Stack nabbing a forward-half intercept.
Stack showed his innate awareness to find Tylar Young on a sharp lead, who marked strongly.
The defender-turned-forward gathered himself in foreign territory to snap his first goal of the night and Richmond’s only major of the third term.
Werribee led by 41 points at the final change and briskly made it 48 points before Richmond found its groove.
The home Tiger outfit gained reward for their momentum as Bauer jagged a trio of goals in the final term and Rioli Jnr sparkled with his second.
It wasn’t Richmond’s night, however its evolving maturity shone through as it stuck to the task and fought it out until the end.
RICH 1.2 3.2 4.4 8.6 (54)
WERR 3.4 6.7 10.9 13.13 (91)
Goal Kickers:
Richmond: Bauer (3), Rioli Jnr (2), Cumberland, Young, Mansell

Even Sonsie it seems is going backwards. He was at least getting plenty of ball early in the season.
Reckon we need to just let em play in their best roles and positions. Also put a bit of structure in place its ridiculous the way we setup imo.
We have VFL listed talls not a lot but enough to help us out as far as structure goes. Would also love for us to play more of the bigger bodied VFL listed players we have in roles like wing and midfield.
Reckon we should be setting up like the following Mirroring most of what we do in the seniors. Outside of Castagna and Ross the AFL named players are regular reserves players.
FB: Rhyan Mansell 180/78 22yo - Tylar Young 196/97 23yo - Joel Nathan 191/89 21yo
HB: Tom Brown 186/77 18yo - Bigoa Nyuon 197/93 21yo - Sydney Stack 179/78 22yo
Plenty of height with a couple of the VFL Boys in tall positions. Brown and Stack provide run and in their right positions imo and Mansell gets the shut down job on the smalls.
C: Sam Banks 187/71 19yo - Collier - Dawkins 191/93 22yo - Tyler Sonsie 181/73 19yo
R: Samson Ryan 206/104 21yo - Jack Ross 187/87 21yo - Thomson Dow 183/79 20yo
The players who need to be developed thru the midfield are there. We need to find decent wingmen and Banks is there Sonsie gets a bit of freedom on the other wing. Like the idea of him with time to use his foot skills.
HF: Mathew Parker 188/?? 26yo - John Jorgenson 198/94 22yo - Judson Clarke 180/72 18yo
FF: Maurice Rioli 179/75 19yo - Ben Miller 198/98 22yo - Jacob Bauer 192/85 20yo
Lots of height for VFL. Clarke plays high hf Rioli as the pressure goal kicking small, Parker in his most suited role and giving a bit of experience. Plus the three talls.
Miller i have had in the back of my mind for ages as a fwd, he played there against men as a junior and did well. The thinking is we really do need to find key forwards. Jorgenson is a good fit i prefer Mykelti Lefau but he has a serious injury. Last Bauer plays the third tall most likely his role in the seniors in the future if he makes it.
INT: Aarts 177/76 27yo - Jason Castagna 182/82 26yo - Will Martyn 186/83 21yo - Noah Cumberland 183/80 21yo - Mate Colina 213/111 23yo
Aarts and Castagna as an experienced player Aarts can be injected thru the midfield or where needed. Gotta admit i find it hard to pick Castagna even in the reserves. The other three are obvious parts of the midfield rotations.
Some of the VFL players id rather we play when the injuries hit. Just looking for bigger types as we have a plethora of smalls.
Lachlan Street 189/93 23yo utility, Bailey Henderson 189/84 22yo Wing, Tom Brindley 195/83 23yo mid/fwd, Lachlan Carrigan 191/78 19yo wing. Fraser Elliot 188/89 20yo inside mid.
Plus talls when an opportunity arises Jack Scanlon 194/87 23yo kpf, Sam Tucker195/89 20yo kpd/kpf.
Still very young but its not all 19yo and it has structure and some size to it that should enable it to be competetive most of the time.

Banks looks like a good player imho. Sonsie and Brown have work to do.

Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in last Wednesday night's Round 12 match against Werribee at the Swinburne Centre.
Jack Ross (26 disposals, five marks, five clearances)
"He was outstanding on the day with his intent. He cracked in, tried hard, and led the way for our young team."
Ben Miller (25 disposals, nine rebound-50s, seven marks)
"I thought 'Funky' was pretty good. He let himself down on lead-ups at times, but all in all, was solid in the contest and made some good decisions on offence."
Samson Ryan (23 disposals, 40 hit-outs, six clearances, five marks)
"I thought it was his best game for the club. He had 40 hit-outs and battled really hard. His contested stuff was great and his aerial game was quite strong."
Tom Brown (20 disposals, seven marks, three inside-50s)
"He's taking some really good steps forward. He was really clean which was noticeable, and he is wanting to get more involved in offence. We're seeing a definite improvement in his defensive actions."
Bigoa Nyuon (17 disposals, six marks, three rebound-50s)
"He probably didn't stand out like he has been over the last months with a few lapses in concentration, but overall played a solid game."
Jason Castagna (16 disposals, seven inside-50s, five clearances, five tackles)
"He started with a bit of a circuit-breaker through the midfield. He had a really good first half before going up forward and probably found it hard to impact, but tried all day."
Tyler Sonsie (16 disposals, four rebound-50s, three marks)
"We're probably not getting the balance of contested ball that we were earlier in the season, so it's a challenge for Tyler to get in and under and win the footy for us, but we saw a few glimpses of what he's capable of in and around contests."
William Martyn (12 disposals, two tackles, two rebound-50s)
"Will has been really diligent in leading the backline over the last couple of months. Once again, he tried extremely hard. He got beaten a couple of times but didn't give up at any stage."
Sam Banks (12 disposals, two tackles, two clearances)
"We want the footy in his hands because he makes great decisions and is a wonderful ball user. We probably didn't see as much as we would like of that, but when he had the ball, he certainly made things happen."
Riley Collier-Dawkins (11 disposals, seven tackles, three clearances)
"While Riley had seven tackles on the day, we feel as though he can probably have more of an impact at this level, and the challenge is on him to do so."
Maurice Rioli (11 disposals, five tackles, three clearances, two goals)
"As is always the case, Maurice busted his gut for the team. He was asked to have more of an offensive impact, and it was great to see him have three shots on goal and kick a couple of really classy goals."
Jake Aarts (nine disposals, three tackles)
"It was a tough day for small forwards and whilst Jake tried everything he could, he probably struggled to have the impact that he would like to on the game."
Sydney Stack (nine disposals, three inside-50s, two marks)
"It was a game of two halves for Sydney. The first half, like most of our others forwards, he really struggled to get into the game. But, he went back in the second half and attacked that really positively and had an influence down back, which was great to see."
Thomson Dow (seven disposals, two clearances)
"He didn't have his best game and will be looking to bounce back in and around the contest next week."
Jacob Bauer (seven disposals, two inside-50s, three goals)
"It was really great to see Jacob work his way into the game, not only hitting the scoreboard and seeing his teammates celebrate his first goal in Richmond colours, but also to bring his teammates into the game late in the game."
Rhyan Mansell (five disposals, two inside-50s, one goal)
"Tried hard up forward and was able to hit the scoreboard. He didn't finish the game as he was an emergency for the AFL game the following night."
Noah Cumberland (four disposals, one mark, one goal)
"Noah was pretty sore on the night and didn't have the impact that we've come to expect from him. He kicked a really clever goal on the half-time siren, but he is well-aware that we're looking for more of an output from him."
Mate Colina (two disposals, one tackle)
"Started like a house on fire in his first game for the club. We're really excited to see what he can bring over the coming weeks. It's a really early stage of his development as a player and he will take a lot from his debut outing."
