Toby Nankervis suffered a PCL injury late.

Ivan Soldo broken thumb.

Who rucks for the Tigers next week?

Tom Lynch hamstring on minor end but Damien Hardwick concedes he’ll certainly “miss weeks”

Oh gawd!

But in saying that we don't have any other option so he'll have to play  :help.

Out: Lynch (hammy), Nank (knee), Soldo (thumb), Aarts, Castagna.

In: Floss, Gibcus, Ryan, Cumberland (into the 22), Ross (if fit)

Sonsie the sub or into the 22 if Ross isn't right.

Ryan and Miller will have to share the ruck duties against Goldstein :help.

Out: Lynch, Nank, Soldo, Aarts, Castagna.

In: Vlastuin, Gibcus, Ryan, Balta, Cumberland (into the 22), Ross (if fit)

I'd play Gibcus forward, with either Balta or Ryan occasionally forward, rotating in the ruck.

Could be we dont risk Balta, Martin and Cotchin if all three are fit then they play.

Team with and with out them  would go for me like the following.

Broad - Tarrant - Grimes

Vlastuin - Miller - D Rioli

Pickett - Bolton - Ralphsmith
Ryan - Ross/Cotchin - Prestia

Sonsie - Riewoldt - Martin
M Rioli - Balta - Gibcus.

Baker - Graham - Short - RC-D - McIntosh

Outs from Lynch inj, Nankervis inj, Soldo inj, Aarts, Castagna, Edwards, Dow, Cumberland.
Ins from Vlastuin, Ross, RC-D,Sonsie, Martin, Gibcus, Balta, Ryan, Cotchin.

Out: Lynch, Nankervis, Soldo, Aarts, Castagna, Dow

In: Gibcus, Balta, Vlastuin, Dusty, Cotchin, Lambert

If any or multiple of the last 3 aren’t fit then bring in the 3 best kids from the vfl tomorrow and no that doesn’t mean picking recycled senior players i.e. Parker.

Balta to be primary ruck, rotating with Gibcus through the fwd line.

With more injuries...

Out
Lynch
Nankervis
Soldo
George
Aarts

In
Ryan guess we have no choice
Cotchin
Balta
Gibcus
Vlastuin

Balta or Gibcus will have to go forward and Balta to ruck with Ryan.
Backline still sufficiently tall with Tarrant, Miller, one of Gibcus/Balta, Grimes etc.

Already enough forced changes and I thought his pressure was sensational.

Great pass off to Cumberland, very unselfish.

Big injuries force Tigers to call on raw ruckman.

----------------------------------------------------------------

They [Richmond] have no known ruck available and might have to fashion a Marlion Pickett (very good again on a wing) as first ruck next week. Suddenly, North next week is a danger game, given the way the Roos played on Saturday.

Do we risk broad in the ruck? Didn’t he pinch hit there in 2021 and was actually serviceable? But if Balta is also unavailable I guess it’s Ryan. But speaking of ruck, what’s mate Colina doing next weekend?

It must be Ryan to come in. Has been playing first ruck all year in the VFL and performing ok. I would play Miller as the second ruck this week.

It's a given he will play; only ruck we have available

Who we use to give him a chop out is the big question

Even if Balta plays; doubt they will risk playing him much in the ruck

Tom Browne on 7news saying no Dusty this week which is what we already knew.

The RFC website has Nank listed as doubtful along with Ross who is unlikely to return from a medial he did at training last week.

Burge said Balta and Cotch could play this week if both get through training. Cotch also needs the okay from the specialist which they believe he will get.

Ryan is taller and physically heavier than Xerri though less physically developed. NM started putting games into Xerri at around the stage Ryan is at now.Give him a go against the second stringer and lets see where he is at.From what i can gather Ryan is developing and it cannot hurt at this stage to get some games into him.

Team Tips:

Richmond will need to rethink its ruck setup for the clash with North Melbourne.

Toby Nankervis (knee) is in a race to prove his fitness while Ivan Soldo (thumb) and Tom Lynch (hamstring) have been ruled out through injury. Marlion Pickett could provide a back up ruck option if the Tigers didn’t want to go with another tall.

Noah Balta, Trent Cotchin and Josh Gibcus could all return from injury/illness.

Noah Cumberland could also be promoted to the starting side, after playing as the medi sub in the loss to the Gold Coast.

In the Mix: Round 18

Howard Kimber

The Tigers had injuries added to insult from the round 17 loss, with Tom Lynch (hamstring), Ivan Soldo (thumb) and Toby Nankervis (knee) all on the sidelines as the Suns stormed home. Nankervis is a chance to face North Melbourne but the other two will miss.

Nick Vlastuin and Josh Gibcus will return to bolster the backline, with Ben Miller the most likely to make way.

Trent Cotchin and Noah Balta are also expected to be available, putting last-man-in Thomson Dow in the gun.

Last round's medical sub Noah Cumberland made the most of his opportunities, putting pressure on the small forwards.

Maurice Rioli jnr is averaging just five disposals and 1.5 tackles through the last month, while Jason Castagna or Jake Aarts could pay the price for costly final-quarter misses.

Verdict: Vlastuin, Cotchin, Balta, Gibcus come in with Cumberland moving into the starting 22, replacing Lynch, Soldo, Miller, Dow and Castagna

According to Dimma today:

Cotch got the all clear from the doc. So he'll train today and be available.

Floss back from suspension obviously.

Balta to play forward. Dimma said we see him primarily as a defender but given Noah gives us the flexibility of playing him back, mid or forward and us being skinny up the front end at the moment, he'll play "out of position".

Nank a chance. We'll see how he goes at training today. We've got to weigh up the benefits of playing him this week versus waiting until next.

Soldo to miss a week with is thumb.

Dusty - we're reasonably confident he'll push for next week but he's still in the doubtful category. We thought it was on the relative minor scale but it hasn't responded to the level we would like. That's not to say he won't play next week but being an important player we'll likely err on the conservative side.

As mentioned in the Ryan thread, Samson likely to play from what Dimma said today.

Never been a fan of two small fwds who play nowhere else. Think Cumberland while he did get a bit of ball in good spots is like Castagna with his disposal not as bad of course.
For me it comes down to either Maurice or Cumberland and while im worried about juniors offensive output id like to see him get one more week.

Have basically named Sonsie to give us a bit of rotation thru the middle and some genuine class and ball use up fwd.

With Edwards there who won't get dropped no matter how poor he goes Bolton, Junior, with Graham and Baker able to perform the small role as well  i just don't see a reason why we have to play another  dedicated small fwd. In doing so we we limit our options and become too small imo.

What i wouldnt give for us to discover a small/medium fwd who has pace great skills a good goal sense who tackles well who can go thru the middle if need be.

Nice scoop WP  :cheers. Hopefully Nank gets through the game okay  :pray.

Interesting to see if Ryan comes in for Soldo or we roll Balta as 2nd ruck?

Does Gibcus come back in for Miller to give us more flexibility in we need to switch Balta back and Gibcus forward?

Could be up to six changes to maintain our same structure (?).

In: Sonsie, Cotch, Balta, Ryan, Floss, Gibcus.

Out: Aarts, Castagna, Lynch (inj), Soldo (inj), Dow, Miller.

Bolton moves forward and Baker goes into the midfield.
