Grimes will be an enforced out.
Fire away with your changes?
-
I hope they don't reward the team for winning and make minimal changes, by which I mean Ross was quiet. Edwards might make a call himself but I think it's unlikely--and Dimma would never drop him. Martin still a week or two away apparently.
In: Gibcus MRJ
Out Grimes Ross
I agree with others that we need a bit more pace in the side, but not sure who to bring in. Also not sure who drops to the 2s when Dusty returns for finals. :whistle
-
Pickett and McIntosh were really ordinary today. Id drop one of them and put in a kid.

I dunno, our wingers are two of the first names on the team sheet for me at present. One area where we don't have a problem so far imo.

Pickett I’d agree. Was pretty annoyed when he kept the ball in on the goal line then handballed it straight to Robinson and then proceeded to rip his head off. But Mcintosh after an ordinary first half, filled in, in defence and did very well I thought.
-
Yeah. I cant see Dimma making that change. He'll stay with experience as long as we are in the hunt for finals. Weve got a good percentage, if the race for the 8 heats up % will be important.

% won’t matter for us ramps as we’ve got the draw

Out: Ross, Grimes, Graham
In: Dow, Gibcus, MRJ
-
MRJ has to play. Maybe for Ross.
Balta to play defence for Grimes. Soldo comes back in for 2nd ruck.
In MRJ, Soldo
Out Ross Grimes
Think the rest will stay. Edwards mat make the call honourably and Dow comes in.
-
Out: Grimes (inj.), Edwards (rest), Ross (omitted)
In: Gibcus, MRJ, best mid from VFL
Don’t think we need soldo against port unless nank doesn’t pull up. They’re currently playing without a recognised ruckman so one of balta, Miller or Gibcus should be able to give nank a chop out.
-
INS: MRJ, Soldo, Gibcus
OUTS: Grimes, Miller (we have to keep Balta back), Ross
It is clear that certain players no matter how they perform in the VFL are not going to get picked, so no point in mentioning them anymore
-

I thought Miller did a good job when he was rucking around the ground. Somrone needs to give Nank a chop out. Miller gives us some flexibility.

Serious? I thought KMac was huge in the second half.
-
Im more disappointed in Pickett than McIntosh. Picketts been excellent for most of the year but hes been coasting a little bit.
-
Absolutely no way I'd be dropping either of them.
-
Out:
Edwards (retire)
Ross (omit)
Grimes
In:
Gibcus
MRJ
Probably RCD / Dow
-
Geez at half time you could name half the team for the axe. 4 or 5 imo did not improve a great deal.
I will even name the 5 Edwards, Ross, Graham, Short, Pickett and i think while he always goes at it i thought Baker struggled a fair bit as well.
MR-J RC-D, Gibcus as ins would be my starting point.
-
Short had a few great games in the midfield but has struggled for several weeks. Time to put him back for a while to provide some drive and get his confidence back up.
-
Jon Ralph post-match on Fox Footy reckons Gibcus will be the simple straight like-for-like positional swap for the injured Grimes.
-
Out - Graham Edwards Ross Pickett Grimes
In - Rioli, Gibcus, Collier Dawkins, Banks and Brown
-

If there is one thing I can guarantee it is neither Graham or Pickett will be dropped and RCD won't be selected

Isn't that three things?
-
Out: Grimes, Edwards swap with MRJ, Miller
In: Gibcus, Biggie (2nd ruck).
Ross to keep his spot, he'll be better for the run.

You cant be serious on Biggie Seriously :lol
-
Dow should be close to coming in surely, maybe for Ross
Biggie played ruck yesterday and from what I saw he'd be a long way off playing support ruck in the ones.
Gibbo may come in to provide some support down back but would also like to see MJR play
Maybe Gibbo sub
-

Who would you rather in the ruck with Nank? Soldo, Miller or Biggie? I vote Biggie - he's been playing in the ruck in the 2s for periods, so clearly someone in the coaching fraternity is thinking what I'm thinking.
Maybe Ryan comes in, but for Port, I don't think we need two ruckmen, and I reckon we have gone past Soldo.
-
Biggie is learning a new role as backup ruck/forward. Has potential but will need to further develop. Miller played this role in the second half yesterday and looked good.
-
It’s not just about who you’d rather play as second ruck. Nank will ruck the majority of the game so it’s more important that they can defend. Biggie didn’t look ready when he played. Rather Miller or Balta or Gibcus give nank a chop out.
-

LOL - First time Miller has ever played as a back-up ruck and you reckon he is a better option than Biggy - please

Where did he say that?
Whoever it is will only need to ruck 20-30% of the game. More important is how they play their primary role. Was a very small sample size for sure, but Biggy did not look ready for seniors in his debut. Plus you’ve got Balta or Gibcus that can help in the ruck, doesn’t necessarily have to be Miller or Biggy.
-
Not sure on others people's thoughts but we had too many pure defenders on Sunday against Brisbane.
Tarrant, Miller, Broad, Grimes. Add Vlastuin.
One too many and not sure the balance is right.
-
I know Miller had a bit of a poor game but for me im hoping they keep on persevering with him down back. Failing that give him a crack at Ruck/fwd. We drafted him from Subiaco but he got to Subi via Railways in Kalgoorlie playing against men as a fwd.
He played for WA in 2015 and 2017 but id suggest people go have a look at him playing for WA IN 2017 he was very impressive in the ruck and his pace and athleticism really stood out.
Maybe just maybe we have it wrong with him we decided early to play him back but perhaps we should have been developing him in the role that had us draft him.
Dunno what it is call it a feel but i can see him becoming a pretty good player for us his pace his size 198cm and his kicking generally all look great. Im sort of just waiting for him to break out of the shell and show us what he really has .
Just have to persevere and keep putting games into him in what ever role.
Like a lot of others he got his pants pulled down early but he was one who kept on giving 100%.
-
I agree claw. Ive been backing him in since we drafted him. Theres something there. Maybe defence has stifled him. I like his around the ground rucking. Thought he was competitive. He has some decent wheels when he is running full pelt too. Hes got weapons - his kicking is neat and kicks it 50 metres post high. We just need to work out how to use them.
-
Yep, seems like a logical role for him to play.
-
Goood call clawski. Look ok in ruck

Team Tips:
Richmond kept its finals hopes alive in a gutsy win over Brisbane, but it came at a cost, with Dylan Grimes potentially set to miss the rest of the home and away season with a hamstring issue. It likely opens the door for Josh Gibcus to return to the senior side. Richmond’s 22 otherwise looks well settled after strong performances from youngsters Tyler Sonsie and Noah Cumberland, while it’s hard to see Ivan Soldo coming back in against Port’s Jeremy Finlayson-Charlie Dixon ruck combo.

In the mix, R21: Who's pushing for selection, who's under the pump?

Given Dylan Grimes' hamstring injury, the Tigers have two options. Josh Gibcus can be recalled to the side, with either himself or Noah Balta to play in defence, or Balta definitely plays defence and Maurice Rioli progresses from medi-sub to starting 22. Other players who might come under consideration include Ivan Soldo, who dominated the ruck in the VFL with 36 hitouts and six clearances, but the forward mix of Jack Riewoldt, Tom Lynch and Noah Cumberland worked well against Brisbane. Thomson Dow (29 disposals, nine clearances) may once again come into the selection frame, as will Jason Castagna (18 disposals, two goals).
Verdict: Gibcus for Grimes.

Would've thought we would keep the team structure of the 2nd half in the Brisbane game with Maurice in the 22 rather than going back to the first half set up with one too many defenders and no forward pressure.
In: M.Rioli (into the 22)
Out: Grimes (hammy)
Sub can be another mid such as Dow or RCD as Port's one wood is contested footy. Alternatively one of Stack or Brown. Please Dimma NOT butchers like Aarts or George! :help
The other question is whether we stick with Miller as second ruck who gives us some flexibility down back or bring in another recognised ruck in Soldo?
-

If RCD cannot get a look in last week after his best VFL game in a number of weeks. He is no chance this week going by the coach's summary of his game. Different rules for different fools

Not sure about that looks like more to it attitude ,work rate hunger who knows to patchy for me RCD one good game then goes through the motions next couple of games.

I wondered if they might give Sampson Ryan a go? Balta stays back, Sampson can pinch hit in the forward line.
If we want to drop someone, drop Ross. Make him sub and start Rioli.
-
I wouldn't be surprised to see Sampson named but it would be at the expense of Miller I reckon.
Otherwise we would be too top heavy. Bad luck for Miller as he's been ok.
Rioli in for Grimes seems a given.
-
Gibcus in for Grimes
Maurice the sub. Itll be peeing down and when theyre knacketed half way through the third bring young Maurice on to give them a bit of a hurry up. Can see him doing a number on the in the last 45 minutes of the game.
-
why MRJ the sub? Is he not fit?
Play him the whole game, and if he aint fit then wtf is Burge doing?
-
He is fit but hes a burst player. Hes not a lambert type thatll run all game. Maurice is a high impact type player. For now in our current situation he can do big damage in the last 30 to 45 minutes of a game when everyone else is running on the spot and he comes on and just runs rings around people with his speed.
-
In the meantime, Josh Gibcus and Rhyan Mansell are in the frame to plug the hole in defence.
"We've got some players who can fill the void although we are replacing a pretty valuable player," Hardwick said.

Dimma said Mansell has been in good form in the ressies while he said Gibcus needs to get through training today as we rate and judge training form too.
