Why Richmond Needed Midfielders... Badly
By Footy A2Z
28 Feb 2023
Following a stop-start 2022 campaign, a busy off-season for the Tigers has media outlets buzzing about a potential return to the top four this season. The arrivals of Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper on 7 year deals from GWS have provided the team with much needed midfield reinforcements.
So after their engine room stuttered for much of last year, have Richmond now fixed their midfield woes and why did they even need to in the first place?

That's a great video.
Only thing it doesn't say is that eff face Hocking introduced that rule and said he hated seeing Richmond abuse the guarding of the mark, then his own damned team won a premiership. Fmd corruption or what

I think what is being missed here is just how poor our list management and recruiting, the little we did was in this area.
The title of the thread says it all. Why Richmond NEEDED midfielders BADLY
The same can be said for other areas as well.
To get a dynasty you add quality to younger blokes Prestia, Nankervis Caddy 2016, in this case we roll the dice adding two big mids to an aging list.
I just think sometimes being able to aquire mature players glosses over areas we have been poor in to varying degrees.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'd give up our three premierships in a heartbeat for another go at the 2018-2022 drafts with a top-end draft hand. Then we'd see what our recruiters are made of!

Er…Um… I’ll take the silverware

I'll take the cupboard full of silverware too ... :cheers

Success comes at a price to during that era we weren't getting the top picks and add to that gws and sun's coming in creating compromised drafts and yes we did recruit badly at times.

Yeah and maybe just maybe if everything falls together we might be able to jag a premiership which is certainly better than the **checks notes** 3 premierships we actually won :help

Why are they making Taranto look like he is gender fluid?

Don’t know what all these new terms mean, and refuse to learn

SEN discussion about our midfield this year:
Joining Taranto in yellow and black is fellow former Giant Jacob Hopper and Leigh Montagna thinks the midfield duo will help turn one of Richmond’s weaknesses into a newfound strength.
“I love Jacob Hopper,” the former Saint said.
“Similarly, I think we underestimate how good a player Jacob Hopper was at the Giants because he’s been out of sight and out of mind.
“I love him as well, they compliment each other, I saw them in the practice match against the Kangaroos and they haven’t lost much at all.
“In fact (inside midfield) was probably an area of weakness for Richmond.
“But now, when you look at (Dion) Prestia fit and Shai Bolton is going to play through there, they are going to be formidable.”
