Bombers applied pressure to ball carrier and has given the Dees a lesson.
You don’t need a team of greats. Just a host of good ordinary players that are fanatical about working for one another. Like Sydney last night that were young but prepared to work hard for one another and we were sloppy and not disciplined
-
we havent worked hard for 2 years on a consistent level.
This whole playing the richmond way is laughable. No such thing exists anymore.
dees will smash us by 10 goals.
-
Hard to see us turning it around
At least it’s back in Melbourne
AFL back to it deceitful best with all games being sell outs, you might just find that in a lot of games the majority of tickets were given away
Ps; no coincidence that Adelaide got the first opportunity , when the polo player comes from there
-
Apparently Gawn is back.
-
Might be first time in over a decade I might tipping against the Tigers
-
Lol, now the south Australian polo playing politician has extended for 3 years, AFL must be getting some kickbacks to cover the ticket giveaways
-
Keep same team.
Keep playing the cubs.
Attitude and intent to win and score goals.
For me, when need to continue playing the cubs.
What we need to change is the game plan and the free-will be kick goals and attack the matches.
Attack the match and play fearlessly, kick goals.

Lets be honest we have not been good enough for two years and it flows into this year as well.
-
Gawn, Lever and Brown possibly all back for the Dees. So, they'll be at full strength :P.

MELBOURNE v RICHMOND (Addam Maric Cup)
Monday April 24, 7:25pm at the MCG
Tigers’ burning question: Can Richmond curtail their discipline woes?
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick wasn’t a fan of what he saw from his senior players in a match against a top team in Sydney that the Tigers were well in. The 50m penalties from Shai Bolton, Kamdyn McIntosh and Nick Vlastuin were all avoidable. Hardwick labelled his side’s discipline as “incredibly poor” and “ridiculous” in scathing post-match criticism. But stats show it shouldn’t just be last weekend that concerns Hardwick – the Tigers have already coughed up nine 50m penalties this year. And alarmingly since 2018, Richmond has conceded 55 50m penalties more than the rest of the competition in a worrying “theme” of bad behaviour.

Might be the first 100 point belting for 7 years.
Massacre I reckon.

I reckon it won't be.
We'll have a shot, give ourselves a chance, then squander it hard like usual.

Melbourne v Richmond Preview
Jack Makeham
SEN
20 April 2023
This year’s Anzac Eve clash between the Tigers and Demons has plenty of weight behind it.
Richmond comes into the match desperate for a win to get their season back on track, having secured just one win so far this season.
These early struggles come as a surprise to many who expected the Tigers to return to the top of the competition in 2023, however their lack of cohesion combined with a string of injuries has resulted in a side that can’t get themselves over the line.
Meanwhile, Melbourne’s hot start to the season hit yet another snag last week, as the Demons were completely outworked by a fiery Essendon side.
Melbourne have largely looked like the juggernaut we’ve come to expect them to be for the majority of the year, yet teams like the Bombers and Lions have shown that these Demons are gettable.
While the Demons have had injury issues of their own, they look to be almost out of the woods, something which cannot be said for the Tigers.
Richmond still has holes all over the ground, but by far the one that will have the biggest impact on this matchup is the absence of Tom Lynch.
Without their centrepiece going forward, Richmond’s attack has had its fair share of struggles, relying on a 34-year-old Jack Riewoldt and rookie Samson Ryan to pick up the slack.
Without Lynch to worry about, Melbourne’s star defensive duo of Steven May and Jake Lever could have their way with this banged-up Richmond unit, a matchup which the Tigers have to be concerned about.
In order to keep things competitive, Damien Hardwick will want to turn this into a scrappy affair, similar to Richmond’s Round 3 match against Collingwood.
Yet with their issues piling up week after week, right now the Tigers look outgunned heading into the clash and will need to put together their best performance all season if they’re to upset the Demons on Monday night.
Tip: Melbourne by 16 points.

3 of the 4 we had against the Dogs including Deboy and O'Gorman :help.
-
Still some doubts about Gawn but their coach reckons he'll play.
-----------------------------------------------------------
MELBOURNE skipper Max Gawn won't be risked against Richmond on Monday night unless fully fit, as his Demons look to respond to one of their more humbling losses in recent times.
Goodwin said star defender Jake Lever and Michael Hibberd would play against the Tigers and was confident ruckman Gawn would prove his fitness in their major training session on Friday.
"When we play our best football we play with intensity in that [defensive] phase of the game and around our contest.
"Richmond pose some challenges in that space ... it will come down to our action on the weekend, it's not really what we talk about now, it's how we come out and do it and execute it."

-
Oliver has the flu too. So some doubt whether he'll be 100%.
Clayton Oliver missed training today due to flu-like symptoms. Will complete a solo session this afternoon to prove his fitness for Monday night’s clash with Richmond.

-
I think this is a really good chance for the club to turn it around. We don’t have to win but I just want to see us play the right way. Bring the pressure and intent, the composure in defence. Just hit targets and simple handballs and bring some good pressure and I’ll be happy to be honest
-
None of the handball happy tactics we have employed in the 1st quarters this year might be a good start.
-
No gawn and no Oliver? Ok so just a 10 goal loss instead of 100pt. Let’s go!!!!
-
If we want to work on something on Monday night, then it's not beginning the game half asleep and having to play catch up footy. Apart from the Adelaide game, we haven't kicked more than two goals in our first quarters.
Carl 1.4 vs 3.1
Coll 1.0 vs 2.6
Dogs 2.4 vs 6.3
Syd 2.2 vs 4.4

Demons stars Gawn, Oliver cleared to face Richmond
Oliver was battling in recent days but trained at Gosch's Paddock on Sunday and is a certain starter for Monday night's match against the Tigers in front of a crowd of more than 70,000.
He will be joined in the side by captain Max Gawn as the star ruckman makes his first appearance in four weeks after injuring his knee against Brisbane in round two.
But it would not surprise if the Demons made a late change, with former Brisbane and Western Bulldogs tall Josh Schache taken out of Sunday's VFL match.

-
Hope they are under done and gas themselves in the first half.
Knowing Oliver though that ain't gonna happen lol
-
Win lose or draw doesn't matter to me. Why ? simple i strongly believe we cannot win another flag this year or even in coming years so my emphasis is on playing younger blokes who i think can be a part of one in 5 - 7 yrs time. Play with enough experienced heads there while they are still there.
Also there is a bit of lets see what some of them have to offer without throwing them off a cliff.
We rolled the dice in trades and have lost. Not because of the trades but because our better players continue to decline and we have done a poor job in replacing them imo.
I reckon good clubs know the the number is up and change accordingly. well the number is up time right now to start the process of playing as many kids as possible.

Our skills and disposal doesn't improve and our mistakes it's been happening all year this could get ugly.
-
Dual All-Australian Leigh Montagna believes the Demons are primed for victory, not only due to their improved personnel, but also because their biggest strengths can expose one of the Tigers’ biggest weaknesses.
“Melbourne’s forward-half game is as good as anyone’s in the competition. They are turning the ball over in their forward half more than any other team in the comp and their pressure in the forward half is second in the competition, so that is a big asset,” Montagna told Fox Footy’s First Crack.
“Why it’s relevant is because Richmond have given the ball back the second-most in the competition from their back-half … It’s been their Achilles heel this year, Richmond, coughing the ball up in their defensive half.
“Richmond need to absorb that pressure – it’s been a bit of a weakness – so if they can do that, they’re a chance. If they can’t, they’ll get blown away.”

6:50pm
-----------------
Pre-game
We strongly encourage everyone to be in their seats by 6:40pm, with the pre-match ceremony commencing at 6:50pm.
The Anzac Day Eve pre-game ceremony will pay tribute to current service men & women, veterans and family members of the Australian Defence Force.
As the lights at the MCG are dimmed in honour of the ANZAC’s, we will take a moment of silence for private reflection, a flame from the Shrine of Remembrance will be delivered and the lighting of the cauldron will be done on stage.
This will be followed by a moving observance of the Last Post, and New Zealand and Australian National Anthems.

Cheers :cheers

Before the ball is bounced there is one real big positive. The 8 kids with around 20 or less games are getting a feeling of the atmosphere of big games and with get to see the effort required at this level. Excited for them. Pitty Sonsie is not there though.
-
Not expecting a win today but I would like to see better application and skills. Pressure and tackling is free.
I'll be satisfied enough if we see the right intent.
-
Troy Chaplin up and about for the Dees.
Got the defenders together for a pump up huddle pep talk
(https://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Tenant/NorthMelbourne/Files/Gifs/140915_gif_4.gif)
Lest we forget
-
Reckon we'll know in the first 5 minutes whether we'll be competitive or not tonight. Melbourne will be fired up after their loss last week. We need to strong first quarter unlike the past 3 weeks.
-
God I love Pickett. He is a seriously smooth mover.
-
Dumb overpossessing by hand. You can't do that unless your teammate is able to move forward.
-
How was that not a free to Balta? Diabolic
-
Cumberland crumbs the goal :gotigers
Rich 1.0-6
Melb 1.0-6
-
The kid is just a natural forward. WOW. Play him, play him, play him!
-
How was that not a free to Balta? Diabolic
"It's the way Richmond plays why they are last in the free kick differential" ::)
-
Cumberland crumbs the goal :gotigers
Rich 1.0-6
Melb 1.0-6
Let's hope he kicks 6.
-
Wow, our forward line looked functional then. And a measured kick lace out inside 50. Crazy.
-
Bolton to Jack 35 out. Misses.
7 - 6
Got to kick those, Jack..
-
Judson Clarke. Soft. Pathetic
-
Being killed on the spread.
Can't bomb it forward either to May and Lever. Cumberland didn't look right to two free teammates running past.
-
Miller nearly has his head ripped off and it's called HTB ::).
-
Players just aren’t working hard enough
It’s clear as day our blokes aren’t prepared to run defensively to support
It’s gonna be a long night if the boys don’t extract the digits :help
-
That's two.
-
Lucky that Dees defender had a brainfade. That was just a dumb long bomb by Bolton to 1 vs 3.
Cumberland + 50 = goal :gotigers
Rich 2.1-13
Melb 2.1-13
-
Couple of good touches by Cotch!
-
Second smart inside 50 by Cotch. Finds Hopper 45 out. Goal!
Rich 3.1-19
Melb 2.1.13
Only the second time this year we've kicked more than 2 goals in a first quarter.
-
Lucky that Dees defender had a brainfade. That was just a dumb long bomb by Bolton to 1 vs 3.
Cumberland + 50 = goal :gotigers
Rich 2.1-13
Melb 2.1-13
Free kick soft
50 soft but there
But umpires are stuffed
-
That's two.
That's 3
-
We fooled them with hackness in the middle :lol.
Cumberland gets his 3rd :gotigers
Rich 4.1-25
Melb 2.1-13
-
Cumbo!! :gotigers
-
That was another free not paid to Balta (Viney front on contact) ::).
-
Again why no free to Balta being bumped front on when taking a mark??
-
Cumberland should have been in the team since round one
-
Dusty will almost the miracle goal from the boundary. Poster.
26 - 14
Great nailing tackle by Pickett on Petracca :thumbsup.
-
Brilliant tackle
-
Cumberland shanks it from 55 OOTF. Normally he's better than that.
-
Dirty ball inside F50 + forward pressure works again. Melbourne struggling at ground level in defence.
Mansell goal :gotigers
Rich 5.2-32
Melb 2.2-14
-
Well, how long can we keep it going for?
-
Players just aren’t working hard enough
It’s clear as day our blokes aren’t prepared to run defensively to support
It’s gonna be a long night if the boys don’t extract the digits :help
The boys clearly read my post because they did exactly extract the digits after I posted.
I’ll clearly take the credit. :rollin
-
Quarter time
Richmond 5.2-32
Melbourne 2.2-14
Goals: Cumberland 3, Hopper, Mansell.
Best quarter we've played offence & defence so far this year.
Now we need to do it again for another 3 quarters rather than just one.
-
We’re on here lads!!!! Hope we can keep the pressure up and shut down their run through the middle.
-
We’re on here lads!!!! Hope we can keep the pressure up and shut down their run through the middle.
Long long long way to go
-
Samson doing well in the centrebounce ruck against Gawn so far.
Pickett is switched on. Hard at it but not going overboard giving away frees.
-
Taranto centre clearance. May holds Jack's jumper (free). Misses again. Geez Jack!
33 - 14
-
Can't miss open targets.
-
Cheap shot to the Rioli's head by May.
-
Nice to see the kids showing some signs.
-
Samson from the pockett :o :gotigers
Rich 6.3-39
Melb 3.2-20
Hopper is having a top game so far btw.
-
Really liking Ryan tonight, coming along very well.
Better conditions for him too.
Wish he'd kicked that 1st quarter kick into F50 instead of cute to the HFF but that's a learning he should take.
-
I'm probably getting all happy and stuff but we might have more quality young talls in the system than I thought.
Balta Gibcus Young
Ryan
Miller
They're showing some signs ...
-
Jack :gotigers
Great effort by Cumberland against 2 to bring it to ground.
Rich 7.3-45
Melb 3.2-20
-
Gee wouldn't it be great if Dan Rioli ended up captain wearing 17.
-
400 up at the 'G for Jack.
766 for the career (12 behind Bartlett now).
-
Short to Jack. Goal :gotigers
Rich 8.3-51
Melb 4.2-26
Maurice's chasing has created a couple of turnovers for us.
-
Play within your limitations Youngy.
-
Short from 55 just misses.
52 - 32
-
I'd sub Pickett out.
-
Half-time
Richmond 5.2 8.4-52
Melbourne 2.2 6.2-38
Goals: Cumberland 3, Riewoldt 2, Hopper, Mansell, Ryan.
-
Play within your limitations Youngy.
Yep has cost us 2 goals so far. One in each qtr >:(
-
I'd sub Pickett out.
Why?
Been pretty good apart from that Langdon goal.
We need his hard body too.
-
Good half, now the real challenge comes …. :pray
-
I'd sub Pickett out.
Terrible call. Been good.

-
I'd sub Pickett out.
Terrible call. Been good.
Been poor in the D50, he could have crushed a bloke in each quarter and stopped a goal.
Otherwise been good.
-
I'd sub Pickett out.
:gobdrop
Been very good
-
Good half, now the real challenge comes …. :pray
Yep. Need to back it up.
Last 5 mins of the first half our inside 50 decision making wasn't great. Can't bomb it long aerially and a direct line to Dee defenders who have the numbers. Need to follow Cotch and kick it across to the fat side or that 45 kick.
-
Umpiring has warmly favoured us too IMO, compared to the usual rectal exam we're used to, although I think Balta's been ripped off a few times too.
-
Maintain tigers
Got to take the step real soon, tonight is it
And fwiw I think demons get away with everything, us can’t touch them
-
Maintain tigers
Got to take the step real soon, tonight is it
And fwiw I think demons get away with everything, us can’t touch them
Too used to being totally rogered mate, we get stuffing nothing
-
Very ordinary start here. Writing is on the wall.
-
Very ordinary start here. Writing is on the wall.
Looking like it
-
That's better Tiges. Kmac does well to bring it to ground and Jack spins and goals :gotigers.
Rich 9.4-58
Melb 7.4-46
-
Doing dumb things like that in defence :banghead.
-
Really Vlastuin :banghead
-
Taranto centre clearance. Jack does well top almost mark it. Dusty normally kicks those :-\.
59 - 53
-
Would have preferred a drop punt there from Dusty. What does he think it is, the 2020 grand final?
-
Dan Rioli checks his kick allowing Jack to lead from behind and mark. Goal! :gotigers
4 for Jack.
Rich 10.5-65
Melb 8.5-53
-
Why does Hamish McLachlan keep saying we have kicked the last 4?
-
That was a clear throw >:(.
-
Mansell finally gets his second kick of the day and dishes that up? Set up that whole goal play for Melbourne.
-
Gave them enough chances butchering the ball.
Mansell's was the worst. We were out.
-
Gave them enough chances butchering the ball.
Mansell's was the worst. We were out.
Yep filthy on that.
He's a VFL player.
Luckiest one out there tonight.
-
Why does Hamish McLachlan keep saying we have kicked the last 4?
He's saying Jack kicked our last 4
-
Bolton inside 50 and Samson marks over the shorter Dee defender. Aims for the behind and it stays there. Poster.
66 - 59
-
Bolton inside 50 and Samson marks over the shorter Dee defender. Aims for the behind and it stays there. Poster.
66 - 59
Really hurts that miss
-
Bolton should have hit Maurice. Maurice great tackle wins the free. Misses though.
67 - 59
-
How is that not a throw? FFS.
Should call it throwball these days.
-
Dumb footy keeping it alive in D50 with a minute to go. Gifted them a goal on the siren :banghead.
Mind you that should have been HTB against Melbourne ::).
-
Don't look like they have the legs to run it out
Lot of blokes spectating at times.
I feel for a guy like Pickett working his ass off there and having no stuffing backup.
-
How much better is it to see some pressure and intent ? Yeah the skills and decision making is still average but it’s a big improvement
-
Too many stupid stuffing mistakes!!!
-
5.5 to 8.3 since qtr time. Getting mown down here.
-
We get noting
Time to just go, no use doing anything else
We need to find our mojo
Not going to do it manufacturing
-
Needed to convert.
Dumb footy keeping it alive in D50 with a minute to go. Gifted them a goal on the siren :banghead.
Mind you that should have been HTB against Melbourne ::).
Yep very stupid by Marlion
-
3/4 time
Richmond 5.2 8.4 10.7-67
Melbourne 2.2 6.2 10.5-65
Goals: Riewoldt 4, Cumberland 3, Hopper, Mansell, Ryan.
Errors from rushing and not keeping our heads.
Also 2.3 that quarter and two misses were directly in front. Can't waste chances in front of the sticks.
-
Who we subbing out?
-
Who we subbing out?
Surely Mansell?
-
Gotta say Clarke and mansell have not looked afl standard
-
Baker has kept Pickett quiet yet Dimma has apparently moved Bakes forward?
-
Gotta say Clarke and mansell have not looked afl standard
I think Clarke has sucked.
Terrible by foot including when in space and that's pretty much his only option at the moment unlike a Taranto who can get hard ball
-
Well to be fair to the umps they are consistent with that tonight.
Free to Miller for taking out his legs by May.
Misses :scream.
68 - 65
-
Who we subbing out?
Surely Mansell?
KMac?
-
Well to be fair to the umps they are consistent with that tonight.
Free to Miller for taking out his legs by May.
Misses :scream.
68 - 65
Calling it early but crap like that kills our scoreboard pressure and momentum. Ryan too.
I reckon that's the game gone.
-
You idiots! :facepalm
Haven't learnt from last year :banghead
-
Wtf has happened to Vlastuin. He’s half the player he used to be
-
Flipping heck :banghead
-
Wtf has happened to Vlastuin. He’s half the player he used to be
agree
-
Miller subbed out for Hugo.
So we've gone shorter :-\.
-
Well that's 3 to Tylar Young tonight :banghead
-
The difference this second half is goalkicking :banghead.
-
Vlastuin has been terrible this season. I don’t think he’s had one good game this season.
-
Why would they take Miller off. Hardwick has lost the plot.
-
Van Rooyen is the one we overlooked for Tom Brown.
-
Why would they take Miller off. Hardwick has lost the plot.
Yep. Makes no sense.
-
It seems like every time vlastuin touches the ball or
Goes near it something bad happens
-
We’ve put the cue away :thumbsdown
-
We need to face facts here. Were half the team we were. We could all probably see this coming at half time.
-
We’re not fit. We are plodding, can’t get to contests, just let players run past us with zero edits to chase.
-
No scoreboard pressure when guys like Miller, Ryan and Rioli can't kick a goal.
-
Why balta forward ? We know he’s not a fwd and he’s been solid in defence tonight
-
We need to face facts here. Were half the team we were. We could all probably see this coming at half time.
Yep.
Need to find out which kids are going to take us forward and get them out there with the 24-27 age bracket we have currently. Anyone 29 and older can be looked at for trades/retirements.
-
Dusty just can't kick a goal tonight. That's 3 behinds.
69 - 84
-
We need to face facts here. Were half the team we were. We could all probably see this coming at half time.
Well we are literally almost half the team we were with our injuries.
-
Dusty is a shell of his former self these days
-
Good pack mark Samson. Needs to kick these. Misses again :P.
70 - 84
Can't win if you don't kick goals.
-
1 more scoring shot than them for the game ...
-
That's a late hit ump. Should be 50.
-
I’d put a line through mansell, Clarke and ralphsmith. None of these guys are good enough for afl. Samson Ryan will also find himself off the list in a few years I reckon. I hope we can trade into the draft this off season.
On a side note what’s up with these changes in the 4th? Why move balta and baker ? What is the purpose here ? Baker hasn’t touched it up fwd… we know he’s not a fwd. it’s seriously bewildering
-
Baker misses as well. 5 in a row :banghead.
Amateur hour >:(.
-
14 more behinds and we’ll win this!
-
Crikey they've put Mansell behind the ball?
-
We never learn from our own stupidity :banghead.
-
Absolutely pathetic final qtr so far
Embarrassing again
Just gifting them goals
-
Absolutely pathetic final qtr so far
Sickening really.
You'd think they would show a bit of fight.
-
Who’s bright idea is it to pick mansell to begin with but then put him in the backline in the 4th in a close game ? You can’t make this stuff up
-
Van Rooyen is the one we overlooked for Tom Brown.
Makes you sick doesn't it. He was so highly rated. I bet even Brown was surprised.
-
Dimma has screamed of desperation late in this game. He's out of ideas.
Totally agree on Clarke, Ralph Smith & Mansell. They aren't going to make it.
It sucks we aren't going to have a first rounder this year.
-
Think tonight we've seen how far off the pace Young is
Dee's been very smart in this qtr. Directed the majority of entries through hid opponent and sadly he's been found wanting big time
-
Van Rooyen is the one we overlooked for Tom Brown.
Makes you sick doesn't it. He was so highly rated. I bet even Brown was surprised.
On Matthew Clarke's watch.
-
Either our players can’t follow the game plan or the coaches are dog sh*t and can’t coach.
-
Dimma has screamed of desperation late in this game. He's out of ideas.
Totally agree on Clarke, Ralph Smith & Mansell. They aren't going to make it.
It sucks we aren't going to have a first rounder this year.
Jury is out on MJ as well, just not dangerous enough around goal. Looks to have done his hammy as I'm typing.
-
Classic Dusty goal. :p
-
Took a shot from the goalsquare for us to finally kick a goal in this second half.
Dusty goal.

Just constantly kicking inside 50 to 1 v 4.

Yep, hobbled off
Hammy or calf

So. 16th on the ladder. 3 games outside the 8 already. No point tanking with no picks.
Awesome 👍

Final Score
Richmond 5.2 8.4 10.7 11.12-78
Melbourne 2.2 6.2 10.5 15.6-96
Goals: Riewoldt 4, Cumberland 3, Hopper, Mansell, Ryan, Martin.
Same number of scoring shots in the last quarter. 1.5 to 5.1. The old bad kicking is bad footy :thumbsdown.
6.10 to 13.4 after 1/4 time is just more evidence of it. And they weren't difficult shots. Amateur hour! :banghead

Thanks WP.
Great! More injuries :P.

He out marked him once. The other was due to Vlastuin holding his arm. Grimes was the third goal. A little harsh on Young WP

Gutted
That's all really
Yet again 2 goals after half time
Unacceptable
-
Wonder how Hopper & Taranto are feeling? Must be wondering what the hell is going on.
-
Was Miller injured. Awful decision to sub him IMO. Should have been one of the wingman and replace the system with Hugo. Van Rooyen goals don't happen is Balta is there helping out. Got belted in middle after that. Shocking decision.

Must be fitness issue.
-
1.Poor kicking for goal.
2. Going away from what got us there and started kicking long to outnumbers. The plan to avoid May and Lever intercepting was a good one they just went away from it.
3. Trying to do the spectacular when what is needed is to get the ball and keep the ball. Some of our players just need to do the simple things right.
4. Lack of experience really showed when the game was on the line.
5 Still making lots of skill turnovers. Not as bad a previous weeks but still to many.
-
Wonder how Hopper & Taranto are feeling? Must be wondering what the hell is going on.
Is it really a secret what’s happening though? We have like 6 of our best 22 out so obviously we’re going to struggle.. if you think they’re worried now imagine when Jack, cotch, dusty, grimes all retire. Coz I can tell you that Clarke, mansell and ralphsmith and Ryan won’t be filling their shoes
-
Impressed with Ryan Samsons progress.
Especially against gawn/Grundy.
Goal kicking needs some work, but he's not alone.
Ben Miller should never be thrown fwd again. Backline and pinch hit.in ruck only.
Judson Clarke needs work but need to keep playing him.
-
Some winnable games coming up. Swans Dees and Pies all played already who are likely to be top 4 at worst top 6. Dee's and Pies certainly top 3.
-
I honestly wanted to punch my TV every time Richo the traitor spoke tonight.. He potted his own side unfairly all night.
-
Didn't think we were that bad tonight. Give us Nank, Lynch, Graham & Broad and we might have finished in front.
More scoring shots, more inside 50s - we missed 5 consecutive set shots.
All things considered, we looked better than the last couple of weeks and if we can maintain our levels and get some players back, we'll win some games in the next 8 weeks.
-
Can’t fault the effort tonight- but it’s frustrating to leave so many goals on the table .
-
I watched the first half then had to tuck my daughter in bed passed out from Exhaustion woke up and saw the score! Oh man talk about rude awakening.
Can anyone give me detailed insights on shai bolton’s game? He’s been the most disappointing for me so far this season
-
2nd half to put simply.
- Dees got on top in ruck.
- As we tried we started to kick long and this fell into hands of Lever and May.
- We matched with inside 50s but kicked 3.9 in 2nd half all gettable shots. Dusty dribble kick and goal on run. Samon 2 set shots from 35. Miller set shot from 35. Baker tough angle but gettable. Maurice set shot.
- Miller subbed and Balta in ruck in last qtr, didn't work and isolated Young who got beaten by Van Rooyen who kicked 2.1 in the last sorta being the difference when game was their to be won. He kicked straight and we didn't.
Matched em but didn't take opportunities.
-
Our fitness is an issue but it might have been planned like this.
The club probably thought we would be breaking even by the bye round and our fitness would be ripe after round 15.
Unfortunately it’s not 2019 anymore.
-

Miller wasn't injured
I would have subbed Young as the Dees (smartly) directed all their deep F50 entries through his opponent. Young had a dirty night but will hopefully learn from it.
Would have left Miller on and thrown him back
Have no idea why Hugo was the sub TBBH. Should have been Sonsie, or he'll even Ross
Someone asked about Shai Bolton, most frustrating player out there for us at the moment. MIA far too much. At least he didn't give away any stupid 50s, that was a positive
-
Unfortunately for the Tigers they slump to 16th on the ladder, making it the lowest spot they’ve found themselves in on the ladder at the end of a round since way back in round 14, 2014.

When we are down does anyone truly believe we can come back and win games anymore?
Conversely when we are up even by 5-6 goals, is everyone just waiting for teams to come back and run over the top of us?
Feel like I’m watching the Richmond from the 90s and 00s again.

Not fit enough.
In 2017, we were all still worried about getting rolled over even if we were up by 7 goals considering our terrible past. But we all realised is that we could crush an opponent into submission by 3/4 time and just roll over them in the last. So 2018-2020 we were all full of expectations I hadn’t experienced since 1980.
Where’s the bloke that got us the type of fitness that was high pressure and high intensity for four quarters and we could even turn it up in the last?
Where’s that fitness guru gone? Can we get him back?

Said this a few times that Dimma likes to manage the score rather than blow out the opposition. When your up by 20 points at half time you should come out and try to kick the first 2-3 to get a decent lead. Obviously it's not deliberate but we seem like we try to conserve energy.
Last night this started about half way through the second quarter. Our intensity just stopped.
-
Yeah this is bang on, we also use soccer tactics that we aim to get a lead and hold it.
Compare that to Cats who have gotten a lead in last 3 games and have absolutely obliterated teams. I can't see us thrashing even the bottom teams with how poor we are in front 3rd. We need more strike power.
-
Second half we went way what we we're doing well our disposal and skills dropped big issue for me in 2023 and our senior blokes went missing or killed us with mistakes. As soon as Balta went out of defence floodgate opened and Young was opposed not his fault.Hugo was the wrong sub and Miller should have switched with Balta.
-
pies seem to be going okay with no ruckman :shh. The excuses some on this site give are quite funny.
teague was the forward coach now apparently he wasnt, or maybe he was just part of the offensive team and thats why we cant score so kudos to teague :lol :lol
nank playing and we win, when he has done sfa for a while now. Dusty, Floss ditto.
we are fit enough just lack personnel so the young ones who been in the system is the reason we cant run out games, and so its not the fitness staff's fault etc etc
I dont believe any of the kids who have played senior footy recently will make it with the exception of Noah C , Ryan and Sonzie. Id like to know if Brown makes it because we gave up a lot and to date he has delivered sfa. Il wait for that one.
-
You might find we could have got a quality key forward for the pick, and the way it’s going Brown will go to Geelong for free and will become a good player for them

Total disaster.
Bloke has stacked on 8kg since being drafted and kicked 9 goals in 4 games.

AFL Report Card: Round 6
Ben Waterworth, Catherine Healey, Ben Cotton and Jono Baruch
Foxsports
26 April 2023
RICHMOND
An improvement from last week, but ultimately Richmond wasn’t good enough to claim the win. The Tigers jumped out to a 25-point lead in the second quarter but were ultimately run down by a classy Demons outfit.
In the votes
Jayden Short showed his importance to the Tigers’ outfit on his return with 30 disposals and a game-high 644m gained, while a resurgent Jack Riewoldt fought brilliantly against the Demons’ defence with a second consecutive four-goal haul. Nick Vlastuin was terrific in defence with 21 disposals, 12 intercepts, eight marks and seven rebound 50s, while Dustin Martin probably played his best game for the season with 1.3 from 25 disposals.
Room for improvement
Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said his side continues to be its own worst enemy after losing a game that “looked like a Richmond game”. Ultimately, poor accuracy in front of goal and an inability to keep the clamps on Melbourne’s powerful ruck duo after half-time left the Tigers vulnerable to a Demons comeback when they should have been well in front. Rhyan Mansell and Hugo Ralphsmith had just four disposals each, while Noah Cumberland had a funny night. Cumberland was dominant in the first term with 3.1 from four disposals before only managing three more touches for the match. Hardwick post-game said Cumberland can “be as good as he wants” but has “got to get to work on some things in his game – and a lot of that has to do with Noah, how bad he wants it.”

KANE CORNES' EIGHT OBSERVATIONS FROM THE TWO ANZAC GAMES
SEN
26 April 2023
Richmond's off-season move gets better for GWS
“Checkmate GWS, I wouldn’t trade pick three on its own for Taranto and Hopper let alone 12, 19 and 31, whilst also being hamstrung by those two seven-year deals for players that will be well into their thirties by the time they have expired.
“It was obvious to those paying attention at the time, and it should be obvious to all now.
“It was a poor list management move that has the potential to hurt them for a long time.”
Richmond are killing Richmond by foot
“Speaking of that, Richmond’s ball use continues to hurt them, they went at just 60 per cent by foot with Melbourne feasting on their turnovers.
“They kicked 72 points in that category. That’s what Richmond did to the opposition for years, now it’s happening to them.”

Hopefully we do some goalkicking practice this week :banghead.
Expected score wise we should've/could've been at least level but we missed six set shots inside 50 on less than a 30 degree angle compared to Melbourne who didn't miss. As they say bad kicking is bad footy and we've only got ourselves to blame for our amateur goalkicking :thumbsdown.

Richmond v Gold Coast Preview
Andrew Slevison
SEN
27 April 2023
Richmond ‘hosts’ Gold Coast at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon, a venue they’ve struggled at in recent times.
The Tigers have failed to win in their last five attempts there and we know how much Richmond people apparently hate the venue.
The Suns have won their last two over the Tiges, one which came at Marvel in 2021, and the most recent which was the unforgettable Noah Anderson after-the-siren goal at Metricon Stadium last year.
Stuart Dew’s Suns enter this on the back of a 43-point win over North Melbourne at home, a timely confidence booster which ended a run of two straight defeats. They will have to navigate the next little period without co-captain and star midfielder Touk Miller though.
Over in the Richmond camp and they find themselves with an absolute must-win match in front of them due to an unenviable 1-4-1 record which has their season slipping away. They are likely to have combative midfielder Jack Graham back while important defender Nathan Broad returns from suspension.
Damien Hardwick’s side was good for 75 per cent of the game against Melbourne and arguably should have won if they kicked straight in the second half. It was a much improved performance and one that will fill the coaching staff and playing group with an enormous amount of confidence.
It certainly won’t be easy as the Suns are a tough nut to crack, but if the Tigers want to reignite their season, it must start this weekend.
Tip: Richmond by 14 points.
