Prestia and Cotch both named on the extended bench. To be rested so they are fresh for more winnable games against the Suns & Eagles?
-
Wait isn’t broads suspension over? What’s up with that?

Normally excited for this game. But after the last few weeks I'm a bit numb to it all.
Hope Bauer gets his chance but doubt he will
-
No idea of who is still injured
B Grimes - Young - Vlastuin . Grimes and Vlastuin on short notice.
HB Mansell - Balta - Rioli.. If MRJ is playing fwd then we dont need another pure negating fwd in mansell. Pop him back to his natural position.
C Pickett - Martin - Banks.
R Ryan - Taranto - Sonsie.
HF Clarke - Riewoldt - Cumberland. Went Clarke instead of MRJ
F Bolton - Bauer - Miller. Gotta play with structure with Bauer. Miller provides cover in defnse if needed against Gawn or Grundy plus the stuff role.
Hopper - Baker - McIntosh - Cotchin - Prestia.
Just like the balance with seven of the youngish blokes Bauer, Miller, Clarke, Cumberland, Banks, Sonsie, Ryan who dont have a lot of games to their name with a good mix of senior players around them.
Plenty of natural fwds and plenty of natural defenders plenty of mids with good height and size thru the team.
-
If Bauer plays it won't be as a forward, he would start as a defender IMHO
But cannot see him getting a game
-
That is typical of the club. Bereft of tall fwds plenty of tall defenders but hey lets play one of the only two tall fwds we have in defense.
Why aren't people sick to death of this kind of thing. Yet the silence is deathening.
-
Sonsie dropped is ridiculous
-
So Hugo or Sonsie will be sub. I personally think Cotch should be sub every game. I can't think of a better sub, injct some leadership and wisdom when things get close.
Put Rioli on ground in Cotch half forward role and put Sonsie on bench.
Hate to agree with Cornes that cotch won't hurt the scoreboard. Forward pressure is important but not at the expense of putting goals on the scoreboard. We are bottom 4 for points scored and this is why.
Miller Riewoldt Cumberland
Cotchin Martin Mansell
Is not a forwarding that suggests goals. Appreciate Lynch is out but it's just not been developed good enough. Especially when our midfield doesn't kick enough goals apart from Bolton. Graham back in here doesn't solve the issue either.

I was carrying on about it right here the other day. But I'm a newbie, so haven't got much voice yet. ;)

Puzzling with Sonsie :banghead.Make the young players the scapegoat for poor team performance. Last chance saloon for some serial experienced undeperformers .

Bauer played his junior career as a back. Played one season (SANFL and VFL - 2022) as a forward. Started 2023 as a forward and was not getting involved enough. An issue that raised itself over summer. Which was raised by Dimma. He has now been moved back and is getting way more involved and with his good kicking is helping set us up.

Are you referring to Balta?
I think it's important for him to develop as a defender. We did this last year and it didn't work. He needs to string a few seasons together as a key back.

Balta has an enormous amount of attributes but he is just not a smart football player. He clearly doesn’t have natural footy smarts and so IMHO will make a terrible forward.
Keep him in defence and once he finally matures and learns the game (and the rules) he might be able to make a late transition but hopefully we will not ever need him up forward. At this stage of his development he clearly still needs simple commands and cartoon pictures that help him understand the game and his role in it.
We really should be looking to developing natural young smart forward players either from another club or from the draft that will be with us for the next 10 years.

He may be referring to Bauer

why would you drop Sonsie?

Ross and Bauer are named in our VFL team. So presumably, the sub will be either Sonsie or Hugo.
-
I hope sonsie is the sub.
Kid looks like class every time

why would you drop Sonsie?
Because the MC brought Sonsie in in the first place as a "forward" rather than as a mid. So, as a small "forward" he makes way for Maurice. Likewise, Hugo being dropped is a supposed like-for-like for Short returning.
-
Cotchin out, Sonsie in as sub as early as possible

Oh cmon that is stretching it. He was drafted as a tall fwd because we had none and based on his sanfl and vfl form as a fwd.
Fwds in a lot of games struggle to impact in lots of games. It happens.
Yes he has showed he can play back as well as fwd but we don't need tall defenders we DESPERATELY need to play and develop what young genuine tall fwds we have in the fwd line. And make no mistake he has looked promising as a fwd.
I understand this week we have a crippling run of injuries to both our tall defenders and two tall fwds. Not helped by the injury to another young tall defender in el nour today. So they played him in defence in recent weeks because of this. I get it but imo it is a mistake . Players will come back from injuries and then we have no tall fwds even in the vfl that have played there.
We just have to look past this week and take a proper view of the long term.
Would not have hesitated to play young Jacob as a tall fwd this week in the seniors because the situation demands it its something that should happen for the good of the list and team.
Although going by his game in defence today you would not think so.
Gunna say i for one because i advocated we take him so strongly will be looking closely at Jacob Van Rooyen tommorrow.
-
why would you drop Sonsie?
Ah this as well why would you. As usual old favorites dont have to account for bad games and the kids cop it in the neck.
Sonsie should play on ball this week as a big part of midfield rotations.
-
Hugo is the sub.

No late changes for #AFLDeesTigers.

@melbournefc - Bailey Laurie
@Richmond_FC - Hugo Ralphsmith

Sonsie should have been the sub. Poor selection.

Sonsie should have been the sub. Poor selection.
HRS leads Sonsie on just about every stat you care to name. Sonsie hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire, though he perhaps has more 'potential'. But, as they say, potential + $4.50 still equals a flat white.
-
Most were poor the previous week. Sonsie is/will be a ballwinner (even Ross is for that matter). Playing all three of Clarke, Mansell and Hugo ahead of them against Melbourne with their bigger bodies in the contest was an odd call.
Subbing Miller off when we were short across the park as it was, was another perplexing decision.
-
Agree MT. I though Mansell needed to be subbed. Or in hindsight Maurice who looked gassed in 3rd qtr.
