Street with the centre clearance. Loose ball 20 out. Trezise hands out to Bradtke but his snap around the body misses.
Essendon go coast to coast for a goal. Very poor defending from us.
13 - 12
-
Olden with the centre clearance. Good play by Cumberland keeping the ball in front of him. Gets the handball to White who runs in and kicks the goal from an acute angle :gotigers.
Rich 3.1-19
Ess 2.0-12

Melville with the centre clearance (Miller in the ruck btw). Faimalo hits the post.
20 - 12
-
Young's miskicks out of defence. Turnover costs a goal.
20 - 18
-
Young has cost 2 goals with turnovers already.
-
Last 4 inside 50s = OOTF & 3 lazy kicks straight a loose Bomber defender :facepalm. Two by Cumberland.
-
Like their senior counterparts the kicking inside 50 is a disgrace. Particularly Cumberland
-
Serves us right for our own lazy stupidity. Waste F50 entries and marks and surprise surprise the opposition go down the other end for a goal :banghead.
20 - 24
Any player who marks inside 50 within the "Vee" and doesn't take the set shot should be dragged.
-
Disgusting play. Fumbles, Turnovers, woeful all around
-
Defence leaking like a siv
-
Young has cost 2 goals with turnovers already.
Make that 3.
-
Young has cost 2 goals with turnovers already.
Make that 3 :P.
Missed handball to Faimalo's feet who fumbles again and Essendon get another goal from our turnovers.
20 - 30
-
Banks long and Biggie marks 20m out (free for being held anyway).
Misses a sitter :P.
21 - 30
-
Olden kick from 52 falls short and rushed.
22 - 30
The decision making is unbelievably poor :help.
-
Quarter time
Richmond 3.4-22
Essendon 5.0-30
Goals: Cumberland, Nyuon, White.
Behind on the scoreboard thanks to a quarter of fumbling, dropped marks, woeful decision making, missed chances and poor defending :thumbsdown.

Amazing how many modern players are allergic to just picking up the ball and going for the obvious option of the sticks :P.
-
Street long. Bradtke playing behind and should have been an easy mark to his opponent. However, it's dropped. Cumberland front and square gathers 25m out but sprays it. Had a free man in the goalsquare too but should have nailed what was really a sitter.
35 - 39.
-
Good transition from defence. Green to Faimalo to Bradtke but the latter misses on the run from 40.
36 - 39
-
50 against Olden for a heavy bump. Gifts the Bombers a goal against the run of play.

-
Amazing how many modern players are allergic to just picking up the ball and going for the obvious option of the sticks :P.
Exhibit A just then your honour!
Miller doesn't go for goal and passes it across to Banks.
Banks then gives it off 40 out instead of taking the shot.

Just more of the same butchering of the ball especially going inside 50. A mixture of poor footskills, poor decision making and lazy forwards who won't lead up at the ball-carrier and create space.

Just watched the third quarter. I reckon Sonsie was on about 20% efficiency by foot. :help

-
Don't get the wraps on Banks? Hasn't got near it when I've watched.
-
LOL. Sorry for laughing but that was pathetic u10s defending.
Didn't pin the tackle so the ump gave the Bomber player ample time to get the handball away. Then Trezise spoils the high ball up the corridor 10m away straight to a free Essendon forward who kicks the goal.
Once again embarrassingly brainless footy :facepalm.

Two easy goals blown :facepalm.
Brindley tries to chip it rather than just kicking the ball normally.

VFL Tigers fight and win over Bombers
Richmond kicked the final five goals to come from behind and defeat Essendon in the VFL curtain-raiser match on the MCG.
By Richmond Media
20 May 2023
ESS 5.0 7.4 10.7 12.10 (82)
RICH 3.4 5.7 7.9 12.12 (84)
Goal Kickers:
Richmond: Cumberland (4), White, Olden, Nyuon, Miller, Johnson, Faimalo, Bradtke, Banks
Best Players: Cumberland, Banks, Trezise, Miller, White, Sonsie
-----------------------
The Dreamtime at the ‘G curtain-raiser ended in dramatic scenes, with Richmond clawing its way back from five goals down in the final 12 minutes to secure a near heart-stopping two-point win.
For the second week in a row, the Tigers’ fate hung on a kick after the siren, this week however they were two points to the good, as players, coaches, staff and fans rejoiced, final scores reading 12.12 (84) to 12.10 (82).
Noah Cumberland got the ball rolling in the blink of an eye with a strong contested mark and goal, and then set-up Bigoa Nyuon on the paint of 50 moments later.
Cumberland stripped the ball from congestion on the Southern Stand wing, swung onto his left and pierced the ball into the corridor to find Nyuon.
The Tigers' No.47 steeled himself and sent a right-foot kick goalward with the goal umpire arching his back as it sailed over his hat.
The Tigers’ sharpshooter, Cumberland won the Sir Doug Nicholls Award for best afield after kicking two vital goals in the final term to help his side across the line.
Harrison White joined in the goal festivities, showcasing his class with a right-foot goal from the right forward pocket.
Essendon matched the Tigers goal-for-goal, with six majors kicked collectively in the opening 13 minutes.
The Bombers were unerring in front of goal, slotting five goals straight for the quarter to the Tigers’ 3.4.
The host’s precision continued into the second term as they kicked their sixth goal to open up a game-high lead.
Cumberland slotted Richmond’s first goal in nearly a quarter, courtesy of a 50-metre penalty.
The dynamic and enigmatic forward was involved once again, as the Tigers overwhelmed the Bombers at half forward, the ball ending up with Cumberland, who showed great poise and vision to find Austin Johnson on the open side.
Johnson gathered and goaled as quick as a flash, clawing the margin back to under a goal.
By the time the half-time siren sounded, Richmond had more scoring shots (12), but trailed the Bombers by nine points.
Essendon struck first in the second half which sprung the Tigers into action.
Richmond’s opening goal for the term came via the right boot of Cam Olden.
The Tigers’ defensive intent in the contest couldn’t be questioned, however Essendon’s ability to transition the ball from its back-half and win contests ahead of the ball was causing trouble.
The game was slipping from Richmond’s grasp before Kaelan Bradtke hit-up at the ball carrier, marked on his chest, wheeled around onto his right and set sail for home.
The ball swung home on the breeze, injecting some life into the Tigers.
Both teams had chances to add to its goal tally late in the third term, however neither could capitalise.
The Bombers extended their lead out to five goals early in the last quarter before Sam Banks sparked the Tigers.
Banks was unflinching in the air, had multiple shots on goal in a short space of time, his final one sneaking through for a major.
Cumberland then read the fall of the ball to perfection, clutching onto a mark and then pumped his fist in defiance after slotting his third goal.
Misilifi Faimalo’s manic pressure was a standout all day, however his most important moment came at 23:40 in the final term as his goal edged the Tigers closer.
Cumberland took the advantage from a free kick close to goal and slotted his fourth as Richmond’s pulse began to spike.
Richmond’s heart was then palpitating when Ben Miller breached the 50-metre arc and kicked the go-ahead goal.
In a tense final two minutes, the Bombers were awarded a stuff at the junction of the boundary and 50-metre lines with two seconds remaining.
Essendon’s shot clattered into the behind post, not registering a score.

I have wondered to myself if Miller could become a Midfielder? Big call but if he trained as a mid next preseason he might become a weapon around the ground. He is a good field kick and is generally good in traffic. Crazy thought...

VFL Report: Round 9
Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in Saturday's two-point Dreamtime win over Essendon at the MCG.
Tyler Sonsie (28 disposals, seven inside-50s, six rebound-50s)
"He's been playing down back over the last two weeks and I thought we saw some really good in his defensive work which was pleasing. He had a big impact on the game late when he went into the midfield."
Sam Banks (19 disposals, eight contested possessions, five tackles, one goal)
"I thought Sam had another really good game. It was really pleasing to see him have five tackles and eight contested possessions which is an area we've identified for him to focus on. I thought he was outstanding in that space on the weekend."
Noah Cumberland (17 disposals, eight marks, five inside-50s, four goals)
"Noah won the Sir Doug Nicholls Award for best on ground on the weekend. His defensive acts were particularly pleasing and I thought he started the game really well with a great aerial contest and contested mark inside 50. But, it was his ability to lean into his team and provide energy right throughout the day."
Ben Miller (13 disposals, 14 hit-outs, four clearances, one goal)
"His last quarter was outstanding. He competed well and played a really smart last few minutes when the game was on the line, and was a big reason why we were able to hang on in the dying stages."
Kaelan Bradtke (12 disposals, four tackles, four inside-50s, one goal)
"Had some big moments. He's not too far away from breaking a game apart and hopefully with some continuity in his football that's around the corner."
Jacob Bauer (12 disposals, five rebound-50s, three marks)
"Jacob's contest work is as good as we have at the Club, but I'd love to see him give himself more opportunities to compete in those contests. But, he equally had some super aerial contests in which he was able to nullify."
Tylar Young (10 disposals, three rebound-50s, three marks)
"Really solid game from Tylar after a couple of weeks out with injury. He was on managed game time and did a great job defensively. His next challenge is to use his speed and athleticism to create a bit more for us on offence."
Bigoa Nyuon (10 disposals, four marks, one goal)
"Those who saw him play on the weekend would have been buoyed by his contest forward of the footy. I thought he was a really dangerous option for us up forward and could have easily kicked another couple of goals."
Steely Green (seven disposals, four marks)
"Interesting one for Steely. He had a good impact on the game with some really crucial contests and moments. I'm really excited by what he can do, he has a huge tank and blistering speed."
