The Tigers sit a lowly 13th on the ladder with just four wins and a draw to their name, but Longmuir is wary of the danger they pose.
“A lot of their games that they’ve lost this year have been one or two kicks. They’ve been in every game they’ve played,” he said.
“They’re really dangerous in some of the things that have held them in really good stead for a lot of years.”

Fremantle v Richmond preview
Jack Makeham
SEN
7 June 2023
Saturday’s match is poised to be a pivotal clash for two sides on the outside looking in of the finals hunt.
Fremantle are currently riding a four-game winning streak, having bounced back strongly from their less-than-ideal start to the season.
On the other hand, Richmond is keeping themselves just within sight of the top eight, having won three of their last five in an effort to offset winning just one game through the first seven rounds.
With both clubs needing all the momentum they can get, the Dockers and Tigers will certainly be giving their all.
Fremantle has looked a completely different side since changing from a conservative game style to a method of free-flowing ball movement, and their dramatic increase in points per game has reflected that.
Yet this hasn’t come at the cost of their trademark stingy defence, which was very much on display in last week’s impressive victory over the Demons.
This doesn’t bode well for a Richmond side that has had plenty of trouble scoring this season, boasting the 13th ranked attack as they are plagued with issues with their inside 50 entries.
Considering all but one of Fremantle’s wins have seen them score over 100 points, Richmond will likely be looking to turn this match into a scrap, something which we have seen them do multiple times this season.
The Tigers certainly have the talent to take down the red-hot Fremantle, but the Dockers on their home turf are certainly a tough task.
Tip: Fremantle by 17 points.

Tigers aim to keep Fremantle's high-flyers grounded
Justin Chadwick
AAP
June 9, 2023 5:47PM
Richmond have trained their focus on keeping Fremantle's star defenders grounded leading into their round-13 AFL clash at Optus Stadium.
The Dockers (6-5) have thrust themselves back into premiership calculations with a stunning four-match winning streak that included a win over Melbourne at the MCG.
Defenders Alex Pearce, Hayden Young, Brennan Cox and Luke Ryan have played a key role in Fremantle's success, with their intercept marking and rebound proving crucial.
Richmond utility Liam Baker, who could play up forward against the Dockers, said his team must restrict the influence of Fremantle's star-studded defence.
"You can't just be letting their backs fly. We won't be doing that," Baker told reporters on Friday.
"We're going to keep them accountable. They'll be keeping ours as well.
"We just have to play five per cent better than we have been.
"We've been going alright ... but (Fremantle) are flying at the moment."
The Dockers will be without ruckman Sean Darcy (hamstring) and midfielder Jaeger O'Meara (suspension) in their quest to post a fifth-straight win.
Darcy's absence means Luke Jackson will take on the lead ruck role, with forward Josh Treacy his back-up.
Last week's sub Sam Sturt has been included in the 22 to play a full-time forward role, while winger Liam Henry also comes in.
Midfielder Will Brodie, who has been in hot form in the WAFL, couldn't be considered for a senior recall after injuring his ankle at training.
Richmond welcome back defender Nick Vlastuin (corked leg) but lose Noah Cumberland (calf).
The Tigers notched their first win under interim coach Andrew McQualter last week when they edged past GWS by six points.
With four wins, one draw and seven losses to their name, 13th-placed Richmond need to beat Fremantle to keep their faint finals hopes flickering.

THE CERTAINTIES FOR ROUND 13
Fremantle versus Richmond
Andrew Slevison
SEN
9 June 2023
Milestone men Baker and Rioli to combine for 40+ disposals
Liam Baker, who plays his 100th game, has been in solid form again this year and is averaging a career-best 22.1 disposals.
He has reached the 20-touch mark in eight of his 12 games this year and has picked up 21 and 22 in his last two against Fremantle.
Daniel Rioli, who plays his 150th game, is also averaging a career-high 23 touches so far in 2023.
His lowest tally this season has been 17 which came in last week’s win over GWS, but he had not been below 20 prior.
Rioli’s record against the Dockers isn’t overly flash, averaging just 15 touches across five outings, but he has picked up 20 and 23 in his last two visits to Optus Stadium (against both Freo and the Eagles).
Based on the above, we’re banking on the Richmond milestone men to amass at least 40 disposals between them.
Amiss and Frederick to combine for 3+ goals
Jye Amiss is developing nicely for Fremantle.
In 2023 he has kicked 19 goals in 10 outings, including 11 in his last four courtesy of three hauls of three.
He went goalless in his first appearance of the season, back in Round 2, but has kicked at least a goal a game since.
Similarly, Michael Frederick has booted at least a goal in all bar one of his games this season.
He has tallied 14 in nine overall in 2023 and has kicked two or more on five occasions.
The Dockers duo, while having never kicked a goal against the Tigers between them (Amiss 0 games, Frederick 2 games), are in scoring form and should combine for at least three goals on Saturday night.

In previous years it did. But this year our form in the wet has been abysmal because we still try stupidly to play handball linking dry weather footy :facepalm. In the wet we need to K.I.S.S. and win the contested footy and the territory battle. Less handpassing and more long kicking to contests with our smalls front and centre as it's difficult to mark the slippery ball. Rinse and repeat for 4 quarters.

Elite pace for a 192cm bloke right there
Offers nothing though :rollin
-
Quarter time
Richmond 4.3-27
Fremantle 1.3-9
Goals: Short 2, Taranto, Ross
-
Slow start, to handle the pressure of the first 10 minutes and settle they way we did was the most pleasing thing
Really good 1st qtr
Hope we can keep it up
-
Wow, this commentary is second rate. They'd better watch it, in this day of AI they may resurrect the old team of Jack, Lou and Pete...
-
Meanwhile at the cricket
,Marnus gone
Aust 5/135
-
Really good pressure and our run & spread is good too. Good signs early.

-
Repeat of the first 10 mins of 1st. Butchering the ball out of defence and turning the ball over.
-
That's twice Nank has hit it straight down the Freo player's throat on his 2nd attempt at a stoppage :banghead
-
Great transition
Goal Clarke
-
Clearance from HB stoppage. Bolton to the hot spot to where Pickett is. Clarke crumbs the goal :gotigers
Rich 5.3-33
Freo 1.4-10
-
That was dumb as at HF. Kept knocking/possessing the ball backwards allowing Freo to clear and goal :banghead.
-
Would love a holding the ball decision at some point today!
-
Dusty attempt for the miracle from the boundary. Misses.
34 - 16
Here comes the rain.
-
Would love a holding the ball decision at some point today!
It's a joke isn't it.
-
HTB not a rule anymore?
-
Young again just allows Amiss to easily push him off and mark it :P.
-
Samson needs to be stronger in the air both when going for the mark as a forward and when defending. So many times he goes up half heartedly or with one hand. Very frustrating.
-
Young is terrible
-
That was pathetic defence
Young's opponent having a night out this evening :scream
-
Wtf no advantage??
-
How about advantage you twirp? ::)
Rushed behind.
35 - 22
-
Tarantoooooo
#151 baby
-
Taranto you ⭐️
-
More soccer than Aussies Rules in our F50 and Taranto gets the goal :gotigers.
Rich 6.5-41
Freo 3.4-22
-
Right idea but no smalls for the over the back. Rushed.
42 - 22
-
Don't bloody handball/knock it backwards in the wet :banghead.
-
Dusty from the pocket but it falls short. Rushed. Should have made the distance there.
43 - 22
-
Disgraceful by Rioli
Just lazy
Gifts them a goal
-
Frees: 2 - 9 ::)
Anyway, poor turnover by Daniel. He's normally better than that.
-
HTB against Fyfe ... ump says nah ::)
-
Why give it to Young
He's clueless under pressure
-
We really need to hold here with 2 mins to go
-
Dusty's pressure has been very good tonight
-
Some really stupid footy there
-
Broad didn't have possession ::).
-
Umpires are certainly picking and choosing what frees they pay. Broad tackled without taking possession no free. Fyfe, had prior, no free.
-
Outrageously bad umpiring. Getting absolutely nothing.
Surely 3 FK’s in a half is an all time low?
-
HTB against Fyfe ... ump says nah ::)
Had him dead and the commentators are saying he was held, didn't have the ball lol
-
Half-time
Richmond 4.3 6.7-43
Fremantle/Umps 1.3 4.4-28
Goals: Short 2, Taranto 2, Ross, Clarke.
Frees: 3 - 11 ::)
-
:banghead :banghead
Stupidity 101
Shai had to go long handballing to Broad was stupid
But well done Ryan punching so thwt last kick doesn't score
-
The pick up off the bootlaces & blind turn at full pace from Ross was just so brilliant …. :clapping
-
Meanwhile at the cricket
Aust 5/159

Broad didn't have possession ::).
Sometimes there is no doubt about the non calls we don't get. That was one of them.
-
The pick up off the bootlaces & blind turn at full pace from Ross was just so brilliant …. :clapping
Yes it was; made up for the HTB about 30 seconds earlier where he took, to long to put it on his boot
-
Shai had to go long handballing to Broad was stupid
Problem was Shai looked up and no one was forward of the ball except Broad 15m away. There were 3 Freo defenders at our HF line and no Tigers to kick to. We lost our forward structure.
-
Stats to HT:
Disposals: 198 - 161 .... ( contested: 82 - 65 )

Dusty 50m pass to Jack (Pearce got lost). Goal! :gotigers
Rich 7.7-49
Freo 4.4-28
Jack needs one more to equal KB on 778 goals.
-
Jack R goals
But gee I hate ghost around the corner kicks whe blokes are 30 metres out on slight angle
-
Shorty for the 3rd time from outside 50 :gotigers
Rich 8.7-55
Freo 4.5-29
-
Overrated HBF with another average kick lmao
-
Short goals
That's 3 mediocre goals
-
Did Claw say he was going to this game? It will be interesting to here his view on Shorts game.
-
Jack goals after a great centre clearance
:gotigers
-
Dusty big high bomb from the centre clearance and Jack marks 20 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 9.7-61
Freo 4.5-29
-
Jack making me wonder again if he should play on for another 12-15 games haha
-
Did Claw say he was going to this game? It will be interesting to here his view on Shorts game.
Yes he did
He said this
Well OER'S will have to put up with old claws observations. Im told its different at the game to the telly AS THOUGH I DONT SEE EM PLAY EACH YEAR.!!!!!!!
-
Cotch out to Broad who runs onto the ball and hits up Jack 45 out. Misses.
62 - 30
-
Mansell from near the boundary slots it :gobdrop :gotigers
Rich 10.8-68
Freo 4.8-32
Brilliant by Baker btw.
-
That was HTB to us but the idiot ump wouldn't blow the whistle and then Graham gets pinged for a sling tackle ::).
-
Frees: 3 - 14 ::)
-
That was HTB to us but the idiot ump wouldn't blow the whistle and then Graham gets pinged for a sling tackle ::).
Yep
I'm calling it
O'Gorman is the worst ump in the game right now
-
Make that 3 - 15. This is blatant cheating >:(
-
Brutal and biased umpiring. That was HTB and the player had an arm free but chose to hold the ball and take it to ground. It’s either really poor umpiring or a really poor rule or both.
Frees are 3-14 nearing 3/4 time…
-
Dusty out of the stoppage and around the body is across the face and rushed.
69 - 39
-
Effn dumb by Balta
Pathetic
-
Geez you're a dumb stuff Balta.... :banghead
-
Captain's goal
-
Nank :bow
Grabs it from the ruck via the throw-in and snaps around the body for a goal :gotigers
Rich 11.9-75
Freo 6.9-45
-
Geez we are a dumb team that never learns to protect the defensive side at stoppages especially in the D50 :facepalm.
-
...then gives one straight back... :facepalm
-
Why was Fyfe allowed to do that :banghead
Pathetic defence at the stoppage
-
Wow that free to Walters is dead set cheating
-
All our good work in the first half of this qtr is wasted
-
Another BS free to Freo :thumbsdown
-
Young is utterly useless.... :thumbsdown
-
Even Nath Jones said it wasn't a free
-
We’re out of gas and clues!
-
No one in the goalsquare and rushed. Schoolboy stuff :banghead.
70 - 57
-
Seriously not one Tiger on the goal line to shepherd it through
Geez we are dumb sometimes
-
We get sooo dumb so quick when momentum shifts.
-
No one in the goalsquare and rushed. Schoolboy stuff :banghead. We would have given away a free kick.
70 - 57
-
Boys need to fight this out
-
Young is utterly useless.... :thumbsdown
Been saying it since round 1
Right now he is not up to AFL standard and becomes a liability
If I was Freo I'd be directing all F50 entries through Young's opponent
-
We get sooo dumb so quick when momentum shifts.
Panicky Tigers of Old.... :shh
-
3/4 time
Richmond 4.3 6.7 10.10-70
Fremantle/Umps 1.3 4.4 8.9-57
Goals: Short 3, Taranto 2, Riewoldt 2, Ross, Clarke, Mansell.
Hard to play 4 qtrs when the opposition have 4 extra muppets cheating for them >:(.
-
Young is utterly useless.... :thumbsdown
Been saying it since round 1
Right now he is not up to AFL standard and becomes a liability
If I was Freo I'd be directing all F50 entries through Young's opponent
1 possie in 3/4ers of footy.
Problem though is he gets lost and panics so is out of play once the ball hits the ground.
-
Mind you, we’re getting a royal prostate check from the umpires 3-16 free kick count is atrocious across 3 quarters of wet weather footy.especially when you see the crap they pay the other way.
-
Young is utterly useless.... :thumbsdown
Been saying it since round 1
Right now he is not up to AFL standard and becomes a liability
If I was Freo I'd be directing all F50 entries through Young's opponent
Biggy's one AFL game wasn't nearly as bad as some of the tripe this bloke's served up.... :shh
-
The issue in the last 10 mins was the centre clearance: 5 - 12. Need the sweeper to not get sucked in so they just don't walk out the front of the centre.
-
Another great goal assist by Young..... :banghead
-
Where the F are you pushing that to young? :banghead
-
Young again costs us another goal. Just tapped it out so the Freo player could soccer it :facepalm.
-
Another great goal assist by Young..... :banghead
I just call em another goal to Young
He might as well be kicking them
-
Not going to make excuses for the guys tonight as the game is far from over but it must be so deflating being paid absolutely nothing from the umpires.
-
Let’s blindly tap it out to the dangerous and open side of the pack… said no decent defender ever!
-
We are in huge trouble now
-
First Shai stuffed up kick OOTF caused the turnover.
Second - Dumb (allowing the ball over the back of the pack on the wing) and then fumble by Ross gifts Freo a goal :banghead.
-
Another great goal assist by Young..... :banghead
I just call em another goal to Young
He might as well be kicking them
This guy needs to be replaced with any of Miller, Biggie etc. Anyone.
-
I can see it now all Claw will be talking about is how we should hafe drafted Amiss
-
Fyfe is killing us since he’s gone in the middle.
-
That is not a free, that's a fair bump
-
That's not a bump. Both players going for the ball at the same time.
-
Shut up Basil.
OMG we actually got a free :gobdrop
-
We got a free
Praise the lord it is a miracle
-
When you can’t tell under slow-mo whether the bump was to the head, you know the game has gone to absolute poo.
-
Love Mansell
-
When you can’t tell under slow-mo whether the bump was to the head, you know the game has gone to absolute poo.
Yep
The game is stuffed
-
Brilliant 2nd effort by Jack Graham
-
Graham should be captain
-
That umpire blew his whistle for front in contact before he touched him!
-
Jack fmd you have to nail that
-
Young subbed out
Hopefully for the remainder of the season
-
Freo player slips over. Graham taps to Dusty who hits up Jack 35 out. Hesitates on the run-up and misses.
77 - 69
-
Why did Marlion keep that in
-
Point to us.
78 - 69
-
Another miracle free
To us in our F50
Pickett stuffs it up
-
OMG we actually got a HTB decision.
Pickett from the boundary. Into the man of the mark. Behind.
79 - 69
-
Well we won't here anything good about Short after that stuff up
-
Where was the snicko thing?
-
Looked like a poster to me.
Shame Broad didn't touch or mark it though.
-
Poor effort by Ross, pick the ball up, get tackled and take it over the line for a ballup
-
Jack and Pickett have had chances. Only themselves to blame if we lose this.
Oh and the umps.
-
Poor effort by Ross, pick the ball up, get tackled and take it over the line for a ballup
Thought the same.
Instead taps it to their advantage lol
-
Honestly two minutes to go they should just keep possession and ice the game.
-
This is a great win
Season is still alive
-
Rioli shot from 60 to waste 30 secs. Goes to the line and Bolton marks between the goal and point post.
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
:gotigers
-
You little beauty :gotigers.
-
Great game fellas.
Nank was excellent
Bolton BOG
Taranto was great again.
Cotchin was tough
Dusty was a pressure beast all game.
Great game by all
-
Final Score
Richmond 4.3 6.7 10.10 12.13-85
Fremantle/Umps 1.3 4.4 8.9 10.10-70
Goals: Short 3, Taranto 2, Riewoldt 2, Ross, Clarke, Mansell, Nankervis, Bolton.
Does this class as another close win? :phew
-
My heart...! Great gutsy win against extended opposition, Tiges. 🐯
-
You’d think subbing Young out would give you a preview to the change(s) for our next game!
-
Lots of other great contributors tonight. Our midfield effing crushed it and Nank slaughtered the million dollar man Jackpoo.
Cotchin was sensational.
Martin, Prestia, Vlastuin, Short, Taranto.
Young sucked, sorry mate don't think all hope is lost but it's been ordinary since the first month.
-
Any idea when Hopper is due back?
-
Any idea when Hopper is due back?
I'm guessing 4-6 per usual
-
Any idea when Hopper is due back?
After the bye
-
Huge win!
Graham in strife?

Jack… ‘Nankervis is the best wet weather ruckman in the league’.
Maybe he should be crumbing and not rucking lol
-
That was a brilliant final qtr by Jack Graham. I know Shai Bolton was sensational but Fridge's qtr was pretty darn special too
Contest after contest

They had the bye and we came off a 6 day break. :clapping

Graham in strife?
For what? That "dangerous err cough cough tackle"
The guy got up and played on

Yeah, the dangerous tackle. They have been suspending blokes left right and centre for these tackles, even when the player isn't concussed.

That was a brilliant win in the road against a good team + their umpires.
Vlastuin and Grimes great in defence. Bolts, TT and Nank excellent in the middle.
Old man cotch with a lazy 28 disposals on his way to being carried to game 300 next week….

Back to back wins on the road for that matter.
Tough ask

Good win but it seems like everyone forgets about all of our problems because of this one win ?

Let us enjoy it Simonator
No doubt Claw will be on here in the not too distance future to deflate us all ;D
But in all seriousness while long term the problems are still there this win to me shows me a couple of things
When we play our best footy we are still super competitive and that we can beat alot of sides, not the best ones but middle tier ones
We still have the nucleus of a good side. Yes we've got holes but we do have some good stock coming through and a couple of our kids look like they are finally taking the next step we've been crying out for them to do. Jack Ross being the perfect example

Geez mate, the game just ended an hour ago. Let us enjoy it for a bit lol
-
What a joy to watch that was.
Outstanding game, best ball movement I've seen for a couple of years. Well done to all at club for the mini turn around. Let's have some consistency and who knows what can happen from here.
-
Have t read the game thread to see if any others me tiones this but far out the sub of Walters changed the game.
How did we see our own use of the sub with Hugo, who I thought was next to pointless coming on. Not Hugo's fault I can't imagine it being easy watching 3.5 qtrs then come on in dieing stages to make an impact.
But compare to Walters impact our sub selection, timing and usage had absolutely zero impact on the game.

Well even these days ... Hugo<Walters

Useless. I don't see a role for him at AFL level currently.

Hugo is McIntosh with hair
-
Whack!! His best spot is the wing though he ain't no back pocket
-
Hugo is McIntosh with hair
Nowhere near as fast, fit or physical. KMac far better
-
Might be faster? Just think it's wing or nothing

Eff off
What an insult to Kmac

Sometimes these votes are hard to deconstruct and sometimes easy.

Not a lot of love for old man Cotchin. Thought he was just about our best. How he didn't get at least one coaches vote is beyond me.
Taranto was a beast and Bolton was great. Nankervis won the ruck battle but should have considering Darcy missed the game. Fair dinkum Toby is an extra big mid what he does when ball is on the ground continues to be undervalued imo.
Noticed comments about Short thought it was a typical Short game with three goals making it a good one.You can bet he wont get soft gimmes around the 50 metre arc next time we play em or from other sides. Yes they were all good long kicks at goal i find it funny though that is what people are hanging their hats on. Have never said he doesnt kick the ball long but usually its coming of hb and its usually just a dump kick down the line to a contest especially when there is pressure..
Maybe im just blinkered when it comes to him but i just dont like a lot about the way he plays. But three goals is three goals good on him.
thought it was a good game to watch. for once i didn't get poo faced despite a good spot close to a bar which made for a pleasant change for me. Most live games i have to watch a replay to catch up everything i missed.
To finish have to say both Graham and Ross are just okay players and Tylar Young is not up to the standard.

Report Card: Round 13
Ben Cotton, Ben Waterworth, Catherine Healey and David Zita
Fox Sports
June 13th, 2023
RICHMOND
The Tigers flew to Perth knowing they’d be gearing up for a wet weather clash. But they backed in their system and kept their talls in the line up. And the move paid off as Richmond cashed in on the absence of Dockers’ big man Sean Darcy. A +22 hit out count led to a +7 clearance win which got the visitors on the front foot time and time again. The impressive win has ensured finals are not as out of reach as many critics had said when Damien Hardwick opted to walk away.
In the votes
Tim Taranto is in All Australian form. He was the difference in the opening half and proved his side’s best by full time with 35 disposals, seven tackles, seven clearances and two goals. Shai Bolton was impressive in the slippery conditions with 33 touches and a goal. Jayden Short kicked three big goals from outside 50 to be his side’s leading scorer, while veteran Jack Riewoldt - who admittedly wasn’t the most accurate - stepped up with two crucial goals.
Room for improvement
Marlion Pickett had just the 10 touches, and it’s now known he had legal concerns to contend with touching back down in WA. Kamdyn McIntosh didn’t have his usual dare from half back with just the 11 disposals. Dylan Grimes managed just one mark in a disappointing outing.

OVERREACTIONS, POSITIVES, NEGATIVES & UNDROPPABLES IN ROUND 13

The Key Takeaway: There is still life in the Tigers
Two wins on the road over GWS and now Fremantle has breathed life into Richmond’s season.
It didn’t start all that well against the Dockers on Saturday night as the Tigers gave up territory and conceded scoring shots, but they fought back hard to wrestle back control.
Andrew McQualter has them playing a very similar brand to what Damien Hardwick did, which is understandable given he’s been there for so long, but it’s a promising sign that the players have continued on in the same vein.
What was looking bleak a few weeks back now has plenty of promise as the Tigers look towards Trent Cotchin’s 300th game against St Kilda this weekend.
The Positive(s): Career-high Shai, vintage Cotch
Shai Bolton was enormous in the win over the Dockers.
He finished with 33 disposals and 11 inside 50s - both career-highs - as well as 16 contested possessions, six clearances, six score involvements, a massive 925 metres gained and the sealing goal after a nice mark to cap it all off.
Bolton’s last quarter was a thing of beauty, amassing 14 touches and deriving the ball inside 50 on six occasions.
His performance was supported by the best game of Trent Cotchin’s season.
The 33-year-old picked up 28 disposals, 15 contested possessions and seven clearances in a perfect little tune up for his milestone match this weekend.
Tim Taranto (35 disposals, seven clearances, seven tackles) continued on his merry way and Dustin Martin (27 disposals, eight inside 50s) also had his most prolific game for a few weeks.
The Negative: The news in the aftermath
After a strong away win, there was some bad Tigers news floating around.
It’s not directly relating to the game, but the situation involving Marlion Pickett is a massive negative for the club.
While Pickett is innocent until proven guilty, it’s a distraction the Tigers just don’t need at the moment.
Additionally, triple premiership star Bachar Houli was airlifted to hospital over the weekend following a car accident. He suffered a broken pelvis and other fractures and is in a stable condition in hospital.
It was an average end to a decent weekend for Richmond.

Vintage Clawski!
Yep 100% vintage honesty. lurked around the 50 metre line all by himself and a team mate got it out to him.A lot like most of his goals where a team mate has the ball near 50 and he runs past for a freebie.
Take a look at the whole of his game. take those three goals out which are very much an abberation, 31 goals for his career it was damn ordinary. Kicking three goals gave him a pass mark.
What never ceases to amaze me is just how often when he is involved in play nothing comes from it.
Teams should be sitting on him if he is so damaging by foot but most weeks they just leave him be.That tells you what.
-
mate, they were all cracking goals. Blind freddy can see that.
Just give a little credit where it's due and your overly-negative rants might gain some credibility.
