Hugo off HB - one-two with Sonsie - runs to 50 by the boundary but kicks it OOTF.

We have the breeze.

Pathetic defence. Floating ball into the breeze and we allow a Swan to chest mark 10m out :facepalm.

However, the Swannie missed (touched on the mark).

We give it back and and gift them goal.

8 - 7

Plenty of butchering of the ball  :scream.

Soft easy centre clearance goal to the Swans.

Then undisciplined off the ball stupidity by us gives them another shot. Doesn't make the distance and we clear.

Really poor at the throw-in on the wing. Two Tigers ballwatching allowing a Swan to go at the ball.

We get it back. Cumberland in the centre breaks the tackle and Lefau marks 40 out. Misses.

Quarter time

Richmond   1.3-9
Sydney      2.2-14

Goal: Cumberland.

Hello soft and woeful! Intensity switched off after 5 mins and we completely wasted our chance with the breeze by giving the Swans who wanted it more most of the possession.

Half-time

Richmond   1.3      4.5-29
Sydney      2.2      5.7-37

Goal: Bradtke, Cumberland, McDonagh, Lefau

If we're playing to a system out there, I'd like to know what it is, aside from let's choose the worst/dumbest option and turnover the ball at every instance. Protecting the defensive at contests and executing a proper tackle would be nice too. So far, made to look second rate by the second bottom side that has only won one game.

50 less disposals and 12 less tackles (just 44 for the whole game) against the 20th placed team with just one win before today = bruise free footy.

That pathetic soft performance could cost us a top 10 spot (finals).

Best Players: Ralphsmith, Trezise, Sonsie, Coulthard, Olden, Dow

--------------------------------------

Richmond struck fast and early in Thursday afternoon's VFL match against Sydney at Punt Road, with Noah Cumberland getting the Tigers off to the perfect start.

Unfortunately, it was the Swans who finished the better though, their six-goal-to-nil final term securing a 21-point win, the final score reading 12.16 (88) to 9.16 (67).

The blustery conditions didn’t lend themselves to clean, free-flowing football, as both sides' attacking chains broke down due to turnovers.

Sydney scrapped two goals in quick succession, and held a five-point lead by the first break, as the Tigers looked to capitalise more with ball-in-hand.

After slotting a goal in the opening minute, Richmond had to wait over half an hour to register its second.

In the short time he’s been a Tiger, Matthew Coulthard has showcased his vast skillset, and in a game that was at times starved of precision, it was Coulthard who calmly set-up the Tigers’ second major.

Mykelti Lefau waltzed into an open goal after being handed the ball by Kaelan Bradtke.

The returning Garrett McDonagh then made it a Yellow and Black double, as he coasted by Ivan Soldo who had just dragged down a towering mark.

The Swans slammed on three goals in the blink of an eye, meaning the Tigers trailed by just over two goals.

Whenever Richmond needed an injection of speed and class, Coulthard answered the call.

The electric forward’s nous and foot skills led Samson Ryan into space, who then turned and drilled the ball to the advantage of Bradtke, who kicked truly from close range.

Sydney clung to an eight-point lead as the half-time siren sounded.

Much like the start to the game, Cumberland helped himself to the opening major of the second half, finishing off the good work of the Tigers up the field.

Richmond got going.

Tyler Sonsie shimmied his way out of the centre square, placing the ball to Lefau, the play ultimately ending with a mark to Thomson Dow just inside 50.

Dow gave the Tigers’ faithful a reason to remove their hands from their pockets, as he eased through his set-shot from a tight angle.

Ryan, Cumberland and Bradtke combined for Richmond’s seventh goal, before Hugo Ralphsmith got the Tigers roaring.

Dow put himself in an attacking position to intercept, which set in motion a wave of Yellow and Black surging towards Brunton Avenue, as Ralphsmith rode home a bomb from beyond the arc.

Sydney hit back, cutting the margin to nine points, which was short lived, courtesy once again of the sure left-boot of McDonagh.

The goal was the cherry on top of some classic high-octane Richmond football.

The Tigers amped up their pressure rating, and more importantly, cashed in on the scoreboard.

Richmond took an 18-point lead into the final change and would need to fight into the wind to grind out the four points.

The Swans ate into the margin with two swift goals, drawing withing five points.

Scores were then locked at 65-apiece as Sydney found its voice.

The Swans made it four goals on the bounce for the term, re-capturing the lead by five points.

The deficit pushed out to 14 points, as the sky darkened, and the lights took effect.

Richmond could only muster three points in the final term whilst Sydney piled on six goals of its own to run away with the win.

VFL Report: Round 16

Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in last Thursday's loss to Sydney at the Swinburne Centre.

Thomson Dow (30 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 11 clearances, one goal)

"Had an outstanding game. Led all players with 11 clearances and was instrumental for us in and around stoppage. It was good to see him hit the scoreboard also."

James Trezise (22 disposals, six marks, five rebound-50s)

"Also outstanding. He won the ball back for us a dozen times off the opposition, and for most of the day, he used the ball very well. He's in very good form and he's ready if an opportunity presents itself."

Tyler Sonsie (22 disposals, six inside-50s, two marks)

"He had a reasonable day. We'd love to see him impact in and around stoppage a little bit more and win more of his own ball. Having said that, he used the ball pretty well to create for us on the day."

Hugo Ralphsmith (16 disposals, three marks, one goal)

"He played down back and on a wing and I thought he ran and carried and was able to overlap really well to break lines on occasion. But, we probably could have got more bang for buck from his disposal."

Noah Cumberland (15 disposals, seven inside-50s, two goals)

"Had four shots on goal. He has the opportunity to really impact games, which we saw on the weekend. I'd just like for him to be a little bit more consistent through the four quarters."

Tom Brown (14 disposals, five rebound-50s, four marks)

"He was okay without being outstanding, the bar has certainly raised for him over the last few weeks. His ball use was very good, but I think he's capable of taking it to another level."

Bigoa Nyuon (14 disposals, eight rebound-50s, three marks)

"An interesting game. His best was very good. A couple of his big spoils were crucial for us, I'd just like to see more of them."

Ivan Soldo (13 disposals, 32 hit-outs, five marks)

"We dominated hit-outs through Ivan, we probably just didn't make the most of them around clearances. I thought he battled away on the day, but struggled to really dominate on a difficult day for talls."

Matt Coulthard (10 disposals, two marks, one inside-50)

"An interesting day for Matt. I thought he had the opportunity to have a big influence on the game. He looked really promising, but probably didn't have the impact on the scoreboard we would like for him to have."

Samson Ryan (10 disposals, five marks, two inside-50s)

"Once again, he looked as though he could have blown the game apart. He took three towering contested marks and had a number of shots on goal, but was unable to convert unfortunately."

Kaelan Bradtke (nine disposals, four marks, two goals)

"Kicked a couple of goals and gave another off. I think he's progressed really well over the past month. He's having a much bigger influence on games for us and has been much improved in his aerial contests."

Steely Green (eight disposals, two marks, one inside-50)

"Didn't have a huge impact on the game, but I did really like his energy in and around the ball. He did look lively when he was around the footy and I'm certain that will translate into a breakout performance in the coming weeks."

His reviews are a joke

You would think we beat the ladder leaders and not lost to a pack of battlers

They always are - Clarke's and even MaCrae's were just as bad....Dow who he talks up the most will probably be delisted at season's end... :shh

Not sure what's going on with Dylan Stephens to be playing VFL but he's a talented kid (22yo)

Wouldn't mind him at Punt Road

Same as Dow - too good for VFL not good enough for AFL and the fact that he's still not getting a game while Sydney's midfield is being slaughtered nearly every week probably tells you all you need to know. :shh
