Title: McQualter's post-match presser / Beaten in all facets; Game over at Quarter time
Post by: one-eyed on August 04, 2023, 11:30:05 PM
Mini just had his post-match presser. A summary of the snippet shown on Ch 7.

* Incredibly disappointing. Beaten in all facets of the game in the first quarter. Beaten on the inside and outside. They nailed their tackles yet slipped through ours. It was overwhelming and we couldn't handle it. Game was over at quarter time.

* Dogs are always a high possession game and we're not. So that's not indicator. It was the contested footy and tackling that mattered and they dominated.

* Didn't notice any lethargy coming into the game and after quarter time we had players still chasing and running out the game. The 5-day break is not an excuse.

* Players not picked tonight were not rested. They weren't available. Cumulative load and not able to play. :snidegrin

Not surprisingly, Mini was notably miffed with tonight's performance.

Game was over 15 minutes in

2 of the 3 senior players who missed tonight based on how they've been playing wouldn't have made one iota of difference

But their leadership may have been, which is a worry for when they retire

Agree around leadership re Cotchin and to lesser extent Dusty

Grimes hasn't been the same player since he became co-captain. So with the utmost of respect I don't think we missed his leadership all that much

I would argue Grimes might have even contributed to a bigger defeat.

Spot on.
People using the 3 players missing wouldn’t have made a difference.
Coaching staff failed.
Players failed.
Simple.
