Next up is Samson Ryan.
In his third season, Samson played 14 games out of a possible 23 to take his career tally to 15. It was his first year where he played more than one AFL seniors match. He played all 14 matches in a row from the round 2 win over Adelaide where he kicked 3 goals to the round 16 loss to Brisbane. After that he made no more appearances at AFL level for the rest of the year.

How did we all rate Samson's year?
-
I gave it a 5.
As I am rating it on output and I give him a pass being generous.
BUT
For me it's a 5 with a bullet. Reckon he has the potential to be one of the premier tap rucks in the comp in time. Very exciting young player.

6
Thought he was good but often played when conditions wouldn't suit him.
Need to persist and hope he becomes a viable forward/ruck option.
-
If nothing else his ruck work in those first few games when Nank was suspended and he was first ruck was easily the best we've had this century. :shh

Thought Ottens was pretty good myself
-
Gave him a 6
Reckon Damo summed it up well
When you consider where he was at end of 2022 his improvement has been excellent
And I for one will admit I didn't see it coming
-
Needs to be competitive outside of the 5-10 seconds he spends in ruck contests. Regardless of the conditions he didn’t offer much even in marking contests and especially when the ball hit the ground.
-
His last 3 games had almost no impact which is a worry

Didn't really hit his straps as a ruck until he went to Geelong - best season at Richmond was mainly up forward as one of the "twin towers" with Richo in 2001.... :shh

His the future fullstop rucks hit there peake 24 to 25 tracking well.

Spot on
:cheers :cheers :cheers

Still not 100% sold. We have a 206cm skinny ruckman who clearly lacks size and core strength.
Hoping like mad he can improve significantly these things in the off season.
Maybe then we will have a better idea of what we actually have.
People compare him to Tim English with their size and shape, fair enough. So far he is way of English as far as Agility and athleticism goes.

Ridiculous comparison
They are basically the same height and weight now
With one being 26yo and the other 22yo and growing into his body
Ryan will end up far heavier and stronger than English .. of course he is currently more lanky than being as athletic/agile .. different body types

What part of agility and athleticism dont you get Damo.
Lots have compared him to English and in those areas he is definately a poor mans English.
And i disagree im not sure Ryan will ever be a real big bodied ruckman but to really succeed i have a feeling he will need to become one.

Of course
Standard Claw
Someone disagrees and the response starts with
“What part of agility and athleticism dont you get”
Get fair dinkum and read what I said you narcissistic prick
READ IT
My reasoning is clear .. he isn’t as agile and athletic because he is a different body type .. and he WILL end up far heavier than English .. who is a stick figure at age 26
As opposed to our 22yo

Tsk tsk tsk now. No need to get hot under the collar.
Hmm READ IT.
They are very similar body types hence all the comparisons. So we will just have to disagree about that point.
At age 22 English was miles in front of Ryan in all areas despite being a stick and struggling with similar problems that Ryan has..
So far Ryan has not done a lot to suggest he will be better than English in any area.
Lets hope he does eh just for your sanity eh. :snidegrin
-
I think that it is true English is ahead of him at the same age ……
if that was a relevant comparison.
Which you brought into the thread
Quoting “some people”
Which might well be “the voices in your head”
They are 2 very different players. Similar in height and weight only.

Scared of the wet and cold.
Would prefer to go off injured and habe a hit shower.
