She did give out a sensational HB that gave us the goal that gave us the lead ;D
-
Is Gabby Seymour injured? She looked sore after the game.

Is Gabby Seymour injured? She looked sore after the game.
She copped a knock to her shin in the last 4 minutes and was helped off the ground by trainers. They are hoping she gets up but I'm not at all confident

R5 preview - Richmond vs Fremantle
By Gemma Bastiani
womens.afl
28 September 2023
Fremantle will be disappointed with its 20-point loss to Essendon last week, falling away late in the game after going toe-to-toe with the Bombers for the first half, while Richmond had the opposite experience, breaking free of Carlton late in the game to claim the win. The Dockers want to play a contested game and get the ball on the boot to gain ground, whereas the Tigers are more focused on using their strong defence to rebound through the corridor. The run and carry, handball game Richmond plays when at its best is close to unbeatable, and it is something that has the potential to unsettle a typically stable Fremantle defence.
Both sides will be without important star players - Kiara Bowers for Fremantle, and Ellie McKenzie and Bec Miller for Richmond - but they have also been able to adapt this year without those contributors to still post wins. Where they have fallen, however, is in third terms. Richmond is yet to win a third quarter this year, while Fremantle has won just one, so whichever side can get a stranglehold after the main break will be best placed to claim victory.
Tip: The Tigers will have just a bit too much run. Richmond by 10 points.

How was that not a free for an unrealistic attempt? Freo player got nowhere near the ball :huh3
-
First goal to Freo.
0 - 6
-
Being beaten in the 50/50 contests. Falling down going inside F50 and defence is really missing Miller. Poor start.
0 - 12
-
Jones with the set shot 25 out. Goes around the body rather than drop punt and misses badly :P.
1 - 12
-
Not switched on today. Again, poor defensively & soft in the contest and we just cough it up.
1 - 18
-
Sack Ferguson. Guy is clueless
-
Quarter time
Richmond 0.1-1
Fremantle 3.0-18
Well, that was crap! It seems we got the first couple of In50s and thought this is going to be easy and then mentally and physically switched off. Not sure what's the obsession today with handballing either. We're going backwards and sideways with the ball while Freo is kicking long and going direct and it's paying off for them.

Freo should be 5 goals up. Missed two sitters running into goal. We're flat-flooted and a rabble today.

If there's a schoolkid mistake to be made, we're making it :facepalm.

stuffen woeful. Too many players with no idea. Forward line is packed and no one is in our backline. stuffen basics missing

That was a mark to Brennan.

Egan to Lynch in the pocket. Goal with 30 secs left in the qtr :gotigers.

Freo 4.5-29

Half-time
Richmond 0.1 1.2-8
Fremantle 3.0 4.5-29
Goal: Lynch.
Very lucky to still be this 'close'. Freo missed about 4 sitters that quarter which have kept us in it. Should be 7 goals down and game over. That's how woeful we've been. It's at ground level we're getting smashed. Beaten up in the contest as Freo players are on the move while we are flat-footed and caught 5-10m behind. When we do get it forward there's no one front and square just like men's team :banghead.

Commentators are spot on. We turned up thinking it's only Freo who are coming off a 5-day break and we're getting owned for not showing the opposition respect.

Dempsey passes to Greiser 25 out on a 45 degree angle. Misses.

Goal to Freo. Again, from us losing a stoppage/contest because Freo players are on the move while we're flat-footed.

Ball-up F50. Conti's snap misses.

I don't think you can have your arms around the forward ump. Greiser tries a kick off the ground in traffic and it's a point.

Sarah Hosking out of the game. Another injury (leg/hammy) :P.

We get out of D50 into space. Yassir on the wing kicks inside 50. The ball bounces and the Freo defender misses it. Greiser into an open goal :gotigers.

Final Score
Richmond 0.1 1.2 3.3 4.6-30
Fremantle 3.0 4.5 5.6 5.7-37
Goal: Brennan, Greiser, Lynch, Jones.
Got what we deserved. Can't win a game thinking you can wait until 5 mins before 3/4 time to turn up. Freo were missing their two best players and coming off a 5 day break in 28 degree heat.
It also shows our depth is poor. Our best 22 is decent but once we get a few injuries the bottom end is really exposed.
It doesn't help either that the coach uses the same tactics as the men's team that doesn't work especially with the taller (and slower) side he is putting out there. We got smashed at ground level for 3 quarters until Freo tired. Also, when you're 7 points down and got a stoppage inside F50, you don't leave the defensive side wide open for the opposition to waltz out and easily into their F50. Freo of course, weren't as stupid and built a wall defensively to take time off and kill the game.
Just a pathetic arrogant 'effort' all round.

Game lost in the coaches box as much as by the players on the field
Terrible performance, disgraceful TBBH
But most of the time you reap what you sow in this game and we certainly did today :banghead
-
Greiser has been a massive disappointment so far IMO.
I was expecting much better from her.
Dempsey has been awesome in every game this year. Has improved more than anyone.
Poppy Kelly is a non factor and her tap are useless. She is an absolute waste of a spot and I have no idea what the coaches see in her. The most uncoordinated player in the competition by far.

Richmond stormed home but ran out of time after giving up a big early lead to huge AFLW underdog Fremantle at Ikon Park.
Ronny Lerner
HeraldSun
September 29, 2023 - 3:28PM
Fremantle has kept in touch with the AFLW top eight after staving off a fast-finishing Richmond and hanging on for a thrilling upset seven-point victory on Friday.
The Dockers headed into the match as rank underdogs without injured star duo Kiara Bowers (knee) and Ebony Antonio (knee), but they defied the odds to run out 5.7 (37) to 4.6 (30) winners.
By the time Makaela Tuhakaraina kicked her second goal, a magnificent snap shot on the run from 30m out, the Dockers were up by 26 points early in the third period.
But just as Freo looked to be cruising to victory, Richmond roared to life, booting the last three goals of the game to get back within seven points.
The Tigers’ tackling pressure rose significantly and they sharpened up their ball use against the waning Dockers in 28-degree heat at Ikon Park.
Richmond had all the momentum in the final quarter, but they were their own worst enemy in front of goal. Mon Conti missed a snap shot from 20m out on the run, and shortly after, Caitlin Greiser’s soccer attempt from the goalsquare went the wrong side of the goalpost.
With seven minutes remaining, Courtney Jones had the chance to get Richmond within two points, but her set shot from just 15m out went across the face of goal.
Then with two minutes remaining, tall Tiger Poppy Kelly dropped a sitter on the half-back line and from the ensuing turnover, Tuhakaraina marked 40m out from goal, allowing her to chew up valuable time when the Tigers should’ve been pushing forward again.
Richmond had one last roll of the dice with 1:13 remaining, but Gabby Seymour’s deep kick into the forward line was marked by Fremantle’s Aine Tighe.
Richmond’s pressure was fierce all day, as they out-tackled Fremantle 82-59, but the Dockers held sway in clearances (32-25) and contested possessions (117-109).
Tighe was her team’s best player once again, finishing with 19 disposals and a goal, while captain Hayley Miller was also influential with 17 touches and a goal.
For the Tigers, Conti produced another brilliant performance that saw her record 30 possessions (16 contested), nine tackles and nine clearances, and she was well supported by the ever-improving Kate Dempsey, who had 24 disposals.
The loss was compounded for Richmond by Sarah Hosking injuring her hamstring in the final quarter.
TIGERS AMBUSHED
Fremantle got off to a barnstorming start, kicking the first four goals, and made Richmond pay for its early inefficiency up forward after the hosts led the inside-50s 8-4 at one stage.
From that point, the Dockers had the next 11 forward entries as their lead stretched to 27 points late in the second quarter.
And if Gabby O’Sullivan (twice) and Aine Tighe didn’t hit the post, that lead would’ve been much larger.
Such was Fremantle’s domination of territory that it took the Tigers 11 minutes to enter their forward 50 for the first time in the second term.
The lack of pressure on Fremantle’s midfielders was telling and a converted set shot from Bethany Lynch with nine seconds remaining in the second term saved Richmond from the ignominy of a goalless first half.
DOCKERS’ PERFECT START
Miller set the tone early for the Dockers, kicking their first goal in spectacular fashion as her quick snap off one step from 35m out, while being vigorously pushed off balance by Katelyn Cox, floated home.
Three minutes later, Tighe produced a magnificent snap shot around the corner from 45m out which snuck home to extend their lead to 12 points.
Jones had the chance to halt Fremantle’s early momentum at the 13-minute mark of the first term, but her snap shot after marking 20m out was terrible and didn’t make the distance on the full before bouncing through for a minor score.
FREO IN THE FRAME
The result enhances Fremantle’s chances of a return to the finals, but the Dockers are not out of the woods yet. With a 3-2 record, they will still probably have to win three of their last five matches to qualify, and with heavyweights Melbourne and North Melbourne still in their run home, as well as Geelong (away), they still have the job ahead of them.
Meanwhile, Richmond (3-2) missed a chance to keep in touch with the top four and could find themselves out of the top eight by the end of the round. They too will likely need another three wins to make the finals, and with fellow top-eight sides Gold Coast, Essendon and Geelong still to come, they’ll be made to earn it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Richmond's fast-finish couldn't upset Fremantle, falling by seven points on Friday afternoon.
It was heart-in-throat stuff as the Tigers threatened to mow down the visitors' early lead, but Fremantle stood strong to ultimately win 5.7 (37) to 4.6 (30) in the first game of Friday's double-header at Ikon Park.
Up against it without star duo Kiara Bowers and Ebony Antonio, the spread of impact Dockers coach Lisa Webb enjoyed from her side was impressive. Ten different Dockers registered double-digit disposals for the day, allowing them to find long patches of control against a highly-fancied Tigers.
Fremantle got the fast start – something it hasn't done reliably so far this year – which immediately had the Tigers on the back foot. The Dockers dominated the territory in the opening half, suffocating the home side of opportunities to score.
Emma O'Driscoll (13 disposals, six intercepts) continued her impressive season, pressing high out of defence to compress the ground and aid in her side's territory dominancy, while Sarah Verrier (seven disposals, five tackles) was a crucial link on the wing between the midfield and forward line.
Richmond, meanwhile, struggled to generate the quick, neat corridor run it relies on so heavily to get into attack. The Dockers' work rate and pressure caused fumbling play and repeated turnovers from the Tigers, stunting opportunities for its forwards.
Kate Dempsey’s tireless work on the wing continued with 24 disposals and four tackles, while Gabby Seymour battled admirably in the ruck against Mim Strom, finishing with 17 hitouts and six tackles.
Once they found more control at stoppage, winning effective, attacking clearances, the Tigers were able to slam through two quick goals by way of Katie Brennan and Courtney Jones to keep the contest alive going into the final break.
Fremantle loves a thriller at Ikon Park
The Dockers have a history of playing out in thrillers when they travel to Ikon Park. Their battle with Carlton in 2021 famously required a three-goal final term to run over the top of the Blues. Last season they fell agonisingly short of the Bulldogs as they pressed the home side late. This season's edition was no different, as they got out to an impressive early lead before Richmond chipped away to get within the final margin of seven points, but the Dockers stood strong to hold on. Fremantle at Ikon, you know you're getting a heartstopper.
Fast-starting Dockers
For a Fremantle side that has had a stuttering start to the season, getting on the front foot against Richmond was imperative. And get on the front foot it did, kicking three opening quarter goals on its way to its highest half time score since the 2022 (season six) qualifying final against North Melbourne. Aine Tighe's work in the forward half proved difficult for the Tigers defenders to contain without Bec Miller, while Gabby O'Sullivan's return added some dynamism to the Dockers' attack.
Up next
Richmond will host an up-and-about Gold Coast side at Ikon Park on Sunday afternoon, while Fremantle will host North Melbourne at their home of Fremantle Oval in the game immediately following the Tigers.

Been a long time since I've beenso disappointed in loss as I am after today's debacle.
1st half was diabolical and insipid. Agree with you Mr OE total lack of respect and just didn't show up to play just thought it was some how going to happen. You cannot allow your opponent to get a fast start like that
For a side that believes it is a top 4 side they should be embarrassed. Top 4 sides don't dish up what we saw for 2 and half quarters. In a 10 round H&A season losses like today's cost you top 4.
Kudos to Freo, though they had a very clear plan and executed it perfectly. Their plan was to run and play on at all costs. They also had the added bonus of having a good CHF and a dominant ruck.
I said in post earlier that we lost it in the coaches box today and I stand by that. The selections are baffling but outside of that the lack of or refusal to try and mix things up and stop Freo's run is a coaching issue. Then to have no one forward of centre when we actually got the clearance from Freo's back half cost us time and time again. Though this has been an issue all year
Greiser has been a massive disappointment so far IMO.
Greiser was alot better today, but seriously the delivery to her is shambolic 9 times out of 10. She leads she gets ignored, she doubles back towards goal because we go happy handball through the middle or wings and they kick it to where she was when she was leading.
Dempsey would easily be running 2nd to Mon Conti in the B&F
We are missing McKenzie but they need to get her injury issues right. She reminds me of Cotch in his first couple of seasons when he had Achilles troubles take the time and get it right... please Tigers get her the specialist attention she needs, send over OS to join Gibcus for specialised training programs....
Just on Poppy Kelly have said ad nauseam this season she isn't a forward. But in the last when she went into the ruck she at least nullified Freo's giant at centre contests.
Gabby Seymour tried her guts out as always but she got smashed in the ruck contests today and it was costly. Great around the ground but at the hit outs out pointed. Do wonder how sore she was from last week?
Again poor coaching, took until the final qtr to try that for an extended period :banghead
Just so bitterly disappointed

Sarah Hosking out of the game. Another injury (leg/hammy) :P.
Meehan working his magic on the girls as well I see. :shh
Na cant be mate. Old Lukey boy is doing a fantastic job at the moment. We should give him some credit as it was a tough job to get. Up against uum himself.
-
Just watching the Bulldogs and Saints game and what makes some of the list decisions of of the last few seasons all the more frustrating is seeing Alice Edmonds running around for the Doggies. Her improvement over the last 3 seasons is extraordinary. Her ruck work and mobility around the ground is a cerdit to her.
Could have used her today

Oddly enough, we've moved up a spot to 7th on the ladder despite our pathetic 'effort' yesterday. On the other hand, we blew a massive chance to jump into the Top 4 given how other results went our way this weekend.
