12. RICHMOND (4-5, 86.2%)
Round 10 game: Collingwood at Victoria Park, Sunday 3:05pm
Win: Finish 8th if they win by at least 10+ goals and Sydney and St Kilda lose, otherwise Miss Finals
Lose: Will Miss Finals
The Tigers’ finals case is on the borderline of mathematically feasible, after their 38-point loss to Geelong did a lot of damage to their percentage. Realistically losing four of their last five games, including narrow defeats to the Dockers and Suns, has ended their year. But hey, maybe they thrash Collingwood and somehow have a chance going into the last game of the season, who can say?

Peck to debut against Pies
Richmond key forward Amelia Peck will make her AFLW debut in Sunday's Pride Round clash with Collingwood at Victoria Park.
The 23-year-old, who also plays in the ruck, was recruited by the Tigers from the Southern Saints as a replacement player ahead of Season 7.
After over a year of hard work at Tigerland, Peck earns her debut after recovering from a thigh injury she sustained midway through the 2023 season.
Ferguson gives Amelia Peck the news that she will debut this weekend against Collingwood.

Full R10 preview: Collingwood v Richmond

3 November 2023
In a frustrating season for the Pies, where injury has marred an otherwise potential-filled year, it will come down to Sunday's clash with the Tigers to decide whether they reach a fifth-consecutive finals series. Collingwood needs the win, and to make up some percentage if it is to make it. Once again without important defensive duo Ruby Schleicher and Lauren Butler, it is important that Richmond really challenges the home side's depleted backline. Living in their forward half will be key, because the alternative is exactly what Collingwood wants – trapping the ball in attack, setting up a high defensive line and intercepting any attempts to exit. Instead, Richmond must force Collingwood to defend deep.
Another injury blow, albeit this one on the Tigers' side, is ruck Gabby Seymour's unavailability. Given the rich vein of form Pies ruck Sabrina stuff is in, Richmond's Poppy Kelly must be ready for a physical four-quarter battle. stuff has the potential to really take the game by the scruff of the neck, and Kelly simply cannot allow this to happen.
As has been the case for much of the season, Richmond just needs to be within touching distance of the lead coming into the final quarter to be a genuine chance, but this is especially pertinent this week as the Pies fall away significantly late in games. Collingwood has won just one final quarter this year, so the Tigers just need to weather the early storm, then put the foot down.
Tip: It's time for an upset. Richmond by three points.

What the hell? Seymour had a syndesmosis? Oh man she’s gonna be out for the next 10 years based on our medical team’s recent track record .
Also we gonna get belted by 100 points because our back up ruck is non existent
-
Poppy Kelly will have to ruck for most of the day, which means we'll be effectively one down at the source as soon as the ball is at ground level as she can't move and get to contests. AFLW has and is evolving quickly. Agility, speed and quick reactions are now as crucial as they are in the men's comp.
In any case, we have nothing to play for today and are playing terrible footy (what gameplan?!). Whereas the Pies still have an outside chance of finals if they win by a big margin.

Throwing the ball back way over the head is 50, umps ::).
Rushed point.

-
Geez we have some dumb players. Why tap it out 10m from goal into the corridor to the opposition? :facepalm.
-
And that is why we suck. Ferguson's gameplan is all wrong. We don't defensively support each other. Exhibit A: Yassir runs forward when Brennan needed support rather than going in to win the loose ball. Not only just gifts the opposition the ball in the contest but it leaves our defensive side (opposition's offensive side) wide open to run forward and rebound in space.
-
Our goalkicking is just as bad. Another gettable snap and miss (Shevlin).
3 - 12

Quarter time
Richmond 0.3-3
Coll'wood 2.0-12
Had enough of the ball in general play and equal inside 50s but again we can't score a goal :facepalm.

We are getting the centre clearances but once it gets to HF/in50 we have no idea. Ends up a scrap and rushed aimless disposals and scores = points.

Sums us it when we kick long over the heads of the leading forwards :facepalm.
Good smother at HF gives us the ball back on the turnover with an open forward line. We finally use ball cleanly too with everyone the same page. To Eastman 45 out who hits up Brennan 35 out in the pocket. Goal! :gotigers

------------------------------------------------
RICHMOND has dashed Collingwood's finals chances with its best win of the year, sending the Pies crashing out of contention to the tune of 52 points.
Both sides – who have been hit by injuries to key players this season – will miss finals after qualifying last year, sitting one game out of the top eight following the Tigers' thumping 11.11 (77) to 4.1 (25) victory at Victoria Park.
It marked Richmond's highest ever AFLW score, topping the 68 against West Coast last season.
After St Kilda's win over Carlton, Collingwood came into the game knowing it had to win by at least three goals – more to create a buffer over Sydney – in order to put itself back into the finals race.
Halfway through the match, it had only raised its percentage by 1.5 of the required 7.3, and the Pies went on to score just one point in the second half.
The Magpies didn't have it all their own way early, the teams level in inside 50s at quarter-time, but the home side were able to capitalise deep inside their own attack with two goals.
Two quick set shot conversions from Richmond skipper Katie Brennan not only hauled her side back into the game, but gave them the lead halfway through the second, with the Pies struggling to effectively clear their defensive half.
But a series of Tiger behinds was quickly followed by a Nell Morris-Dalton brace, immediately wiping out the brief lead.
The cumulative absence of Collingwood defenders Ruby Schleicher (PCL), Lauren Butler (hamstring) and Selena Karlson (shoulder) really hit home as Richmond peppered its attacking half in the third term, with Jordy Allan forced to play a tight defensive role rather than provide her usual rebound.
The Tigers owned the footy throughout the game, winning the midfield battle and denying the Pies first use of the ball.
Mon Conti, Grace Egan and Eilish Sheerin combined beautifully in the midfield, while Brennan and the returning Sarah D'Arcy were a handful in attack where the Tigers recorded 22 scoring shots to five.
Brit Bonnici (who seemed to reach for her back throughout the game), Mikala Cann and Aish Sheridan battled hard, but just didn’t win nearly enough of the ball to have a meaningful impact.
Magpies have room for improvement
The Pies will be looking to improve on two key areas ahead of next season – taking marks inside its own forward 50 (creating easier scoring opportunities for its forwards), and limiting opposition marks in attack. The marks inside 50 count sat at 1-10 at half-time, with only Richmond's inaccuracy keeping it interesting in the first half. It finished at 2-14, as the Tigers began to run the footy inside 50 in the second half.
Richmond's new midfield mix set for 2024
After including debutant key back Amelia Peck and with Sarah Hosking shifted forward, the Tigers decided to throw Sheerin onto the ball, with immediate effect. Sheerin – who played as an inside midfielder for AFL Sydney club Inner West Magpies – was just the bullocking presence needed for Conti to shine, recording 11 clearances off her own boot.
Up next
It's season over for both sides.

Yep, where has it been?
Great team effort but a couple of the whipping gal's deserve special mentions
Poppy King - hands down best game she's played for the club. She's a ruck not a forward. Super impressed with her game today 👏
Caitlin Greiser - there's been alot of comments about her size. Having met her during the week have say most of it unfair . She is actually very slim though you wouldn't know watching her on the TV or even ar games but anyways... she got the rewards today for her 2nd and 3rd efforts which go unnoticed...well done
Debutant Amelia Peck - impressive. Just did her job down back, didn't panic made good decisions. Congrats

Mon Conti, she's a star
In Richmond's last hurrah of the 2023 season, gun midfielder Mon Conti decided her side was going to go out on a high. With added support through the middle from rebounding defender Eilish Sheerin, alongside the reliable Grace Egan, Conti gathered a stunning 34 disposals and 11 clearances, while also laying eight tackles for the day. She topped it off with a powerful goal after breaking free of the stoppage and powering forward, as the Tigers recorded their highest ever score and biggest ever AFLW win.

Yassir has copped a $100 fine for her part in the melee.
3 Pies copped fines but only ex-Tiger Sansonetti for the melee. The other two were presumably for the sling tackles on Egan and Hosking.

Another record, Monique Conti's 73 clearances has pipped Kiara Bowers' 72 of last season. Conti's tireless efforts through the contest for the Tigers, even when the side was struggling, are represented in the numbers, including double-digit clearances on two occasions.

Yassir has copped a $100 fine for her part in the melee.
3 Pies copped fines but only ex-Tiger Sansonetti for the melee. The other two were presumably for the sling tackles on Egan and Hosking.

Because (and it happened right in front of us) after saying we were getting a 50m penalty one of our players went in and ragged dolled Sansonetti, which was stupid.
Just on Sansonetti still peeves me that we de-listed her and kept Molan for 3 seasons. Sarah showed a helluva lot more than Molan ever did. ::)
