“THEY’RE BOTTOM FOUR”: CORNES PREDICTS TOUGH YEAR FOR YZE'S TIGERS

5 January 2024
Kane Cornes has predicted a bottom four finish for the Tigers in their first year under new coach Adam Yze.
Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Cornes recalled the anticipation built around Richmond’s 2023 campaign, where Trent Cotchin was shifted forward to make room for star midfield recruits Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper.
The season culminated in a 13th-placed finish and the departure of three-time premiership coach Damien Hardwick.
They have since said goodbye to hero's Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt and don’t appear close to flag contention.
“I think they’re bottom four,” Cornes said.
“You watch in the next month or so we’re gonna get a lot of information from clubs… ‘someone’s gonna be the next Dustin Martin as a mid/forward.”
“Last year it was Trent Cotchin and I said ‘if Trent Cotchin kicks more than 15 goals for the year, I’ll run eight laps of the tan wearing a number 9 Richmond jumper.
“Of course I was right… he didn’t get anywhere near 15.
“I’ll do something similar if Richmond make the eight.”

Cotchin and Riewoldt are champions of our club .
However replacing them with fresh legs in 2024 will only make us stronger. Both of them limped to the finishing line with broken bodies.
I believe the only way we finish bottom 4 is if Lynch goes down again during the opening month .

Kernel really does have a huge chip on his shoulder

“Of course I was right
The man summed up perfectly with his own words
What an absolute flog
-
Yeah he was also right when he said trading for Prestia was a mistake. The guy is campaigner and should be ignored at all costs

Some highlights of K.Cornes last game. Some great highlights here from Jack & Titch #gotiges

And if we do finish bottom 4 then we have a poo load of picks to fix the problems

Lol , I never noticed that
Really strange a more “Port Adelaide” player didn’t get that job
-
Will be interested to see how Soldo goes at Port

The rest of the senior players must have hated him.

He’ll struggle as no.1 ruck. Doesn’t have the athleticism needed to ruck the majority of the game.
-
Good centre bounce and tap ruck but not enough around the ground, I liked him as he played a role but he is replaceable
-
So lemme get this str8, Corn jumps all over Taranto's kicking because that is what Champion data says (that it's poor), yet when CD says we have the 8th best list it's a hard disagree, because, well... because he wishes otherwise. If that doesn't expose him as a narrative merchant then nothing will.

Personally I think he'll do fine

If he can consistently take marks he will do fine, but if he starts dropping the ball the crowd will jump on him.

I know it was only 1 game (I think vs Hawks) but Soldo has shown he 'can' play that sort of game and actually kick goals.
I think with fitness and #1 role he'll do well. Two things he hadn't had much of with us the last 2-3 years.
-
I think he's a confidence player and the Port crowd can be brutal.

This is a bloke who walked out a b and f because he didn't win it and had to be consulted to come back in.
