How come we’ve got to play at there dump.
-
Can’t read into these games too much, but definitely looking for a few guys to try and stand out.
Keen to see banks, sonesie, Dow, coulthard, brown, Clarke.
-

I think our squad gives an idea of what they are looking for today. Blokes to put their hands up for the really stuff in a month.
Interesting to see the Dees selecting basically a full strength squad.
I was at the Captain's run yesterday morning for the season launch for the membership group I'm in and I have to say I was very impressed with how much stronger both Brown and Gibcus look in the upper body
-
Main thing today is no injuries (touchwood) and as you said Simonator the cubs so improvement and put their hand up for round "zero".
-
Samson, Graham, Hopper and Dow in the starting centre. Banks and Kmac on the wings.
-
Get Naismith on!!
-
And that's why Balta is a defender :P.
-
And that's why Balta is a defender :P.
40 out, have a shot
-
Balta, Kosi, Bolton, Campbell, Sonsie up forward.
Gibcus, Young, Broad, Floss, D.Rioli, Brown in defence.
-
The umps up to their usual standard even in preseason ::).
-
Naismith, Bolton, Ross and Hopper now into the centrebounce.
-
We get the centre clearance and Kosi marks in the pocket. Just misses.
1 - 12
-
You can't tackle players not in possession you muppets ::)
-
Short now on in defence and Pickett on the wing.
Samson back in the CB ruck alongside Graham, Hopper and Ross and Melbourne get another easy clearance and goal.
1 - 25
This is getting ugly :P.
-
Who do we take with pick 1 this year?
-
Broad long and Balta outmarks May 25 out. Goal!
Finally :gotigers
Rich 1.1-7
Melb 5.1-31
-
Who do we take with pick 1 this year?
:snidegrin
-
Forced the turnover midfield, Kmac hands out to Bolton kicks to Balta inside 50 who chips to Kosi 20 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 2.1-13
Melb 5.1-31
-
Who do we take with pick 1 this year?
:snidegrin
Pick 18 I mean. Balta for the Coleman?
-
Baker missing due to his sister's wedding according to the commentators.
-
Who do we take with pick 1 this year?
:snidegrin
Pick 18 I mean. Balta for the Coleman?
:lol
It's going to be a box of chocolates with Noah up forward :-\ lol.
-
Green cuts off the Melb defender's clearance and hits up Kosi 35 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 3.1-19
Melb 5.1-31
-
Quarter time
Richmond 3.1-19
Melbourne 5.1-31
Goals: Koschitzke 2, Balta.
That quarter was 22 mins of a Sunday walk in the park for the Dees with easy CCs and hitting us on transition off our turnovers followed by the final 8 mins of us making the most of a couple of Melb turnovers.
Still not protecting the defensive side but kind of hard the way we are overpossessing by hand.
-
Mansell injured with an ankle (has ice on it on the bench).
Another non-free ::). That was HTB. Melbourne player took the tackle on.
-
Hopper doesn't blaze away and goes across the arc to find Graham on 50. Hands off to Short who bombs the goal on the run :gotigers.
Rich 4.1-25
Melb 5.1-31
-
Again another non-free! No such thing as HTB to us ::).
We get it back anyway and Bolton goals from 50 :gotigers.
Rich 5.1-31
Melb 5.1-31
-
We have genuinely looked good since I started watching half way through the 1st.
-
Maurice Rioli now on up forward.
-
We have genuinely looked good since I started watching half way through the 1st.
Don't look away Willy :snidegrin.
-
Throw-in 40 out and Gawn pushes Balta in the back in the ruck. Set shot for Noah and he goals :gotigers.
That's six straight and we're in front :o.
Rich 6.1-37
Melb 5.1-31
-
Gawn just playing with Samson :P.
-
Gawn just playing with Samson :P.
Well credit to Samson he did get one back on Gawn there by running to HF to win the free and F50 entry.
Maurice's snap from the pocket misses.
38 - 32
-
Gawn just playing with Samson :P.
Too worried about Gawn instead of the ball
-
Gawn thumps the ball 25m over the boundary. Free to Kmac 30 out on the boundary. Misses everything and it's a throw-in. Ross' snap misses everything as well and it's OOTF. Melb clear.
-
Gawn just playing with Samson :P.
Too worried about Gawn instead of the ball
Yep, spot on wayne.
-
Front half pressure. Bolton over to Sonsie who runs into an open goal :gotigers.
Rich 7.2-44
Melb 5.3-33
-
Gibcus intercept well. Good transition. Sonsie on the wing to Bolton who hits up Campbell in the pocket. Misses.
46 - 33
-
Naismith putting his hand up.
-
LOL. Almost made an absolute mess of that. Balta makes up for it and goals :gotigers.
We're hurting them on defensive transition and forward half pressure.
That's 8 straight :o.
Rich 8.5-53
Melb 5.4-34
-
I'll give this Balta experiment one thing. He can't have a tall stuff playing on him. He's too athletic for them. Melbourne have Tomlinson on him this qtr. If only Noah had a forward's IQ. It's more hit and miss.
-
Another transition goal. Bolton on the end of it :gotigers.
That's nine straight!
Rich 9.6-60
Melb 5.4-34
Serves that Melbourne player right. Tried to take Broad out and came off second best.
-
May hears footsteps. Balta off to Bolton who bounces it through for ten straight :o :gotigers
Rich 10.6-66
Melb 5.4-34
-
Naismith putting his hand up.
My thoughts exactly lol.
Gets serious elevation
-
Ump gives Melb a free and goal.
66 - 40
-
That mark was after the siren ::).
-
I'll give this Balta experiment one thing. He can't have a tall stuff playing on him. He's too athletic for them. Melbourne have Tomlinson on him this qtr. If only Noah had a forward's IQ. It's more hit and miss.
Well said and agree.
I haven’t been a fan of him forward in the past but he is looking super dangerous today.
-
Half-time
Richmond 3.1 10.6-66
Melbourne 5.1 7.5-47
Goals: Balta 3, Bolton 3, Koschitzke 2, Short, Sonsie.
Only a preseason game but there was a lot to like about that 2nd quarter. Forward pressure and defensive transition strong, Naismith keeping his own against Gawn, Gibcus shining in defence, Bolton and Balta looking dangerous up forward.
Neg: The umps as usual ::)
-
Umpiring is disgusting. Pluck a soft free to Gawn for a nonexistent block and then pay a mark after the siren. It’s stuffen BS.
-
I think we have already got what we needed from this game .
Looking forward to hearing Kanes thoughts on Monday 😂
-
Why are Fox showina replay of the Bounce now?
-
Game back on Kayo. 3rd qtr about to start now.
-
Have a shot Samson! What's with modern footballers who don't want to kick a goal if they mark inside 50?
-
Wasted a couple good chances (incl. Sonsie OOTF) and then we didn't complete the tackle and it gifts Melb a soft goal :P.
66 - 53
-
Much better Sonz. Lowered the eyes and found Green 40 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 11.6-72
Melb 8.5-53
-
Good ball movement again. Short goes towards goal and Green to run onto it and he gets a toe to it. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 12.6-78
Melb 8.6-54
-
Samson backchat? Gives away 50 and a goal to Melb.
78 - 61
-
Lefau warming up on the boundary. Last chance to impress before the SSP decision tomorrow.
-
Melb getting on top this quarter. Our dumb mistakes not helping.
-
Wow this has deteriorated :P. Preseason fatigue.
-
Melb feeding off our many mistakes and they hit the front.
78 - 80
-
This umpiring :facepalm.
-
Speaking on frees Campbell gets taken high just before the siren. Set shot after is through :gotigers.
Back in front. Lead by 4 at 3/4 time.
-
Seth Campbell has been busy.
-
3/4 time
Richmond 3.1 10.6 13.6-84
Melbourne 5.1 7.5 12.8-80
Goals: Balta 3, Bolton 3, Koschitzke 2, Green 2, Short, Sonsie, Campbell.
Not pretty that 3rd qtr :P.
-
Is it me?
But have to say so far I've been disappointed in Ryan's game. Really needs to start hitting contests harder and make more of an effort to make contests. 2nd efforts are non existent too often
Others thoughts?
-

Not you WP. Samson has been ordinary. Naismith is clearly ahead on today's effort.
-
Lefau on. If he's playing in the first 4 quarters then you'd think he's a strong chance to be the SSP choice.
-
The Kiwi snags a goal!
-
Lefau on. If he's playing in the first 4 quarters then you'd think he's a strong chance to be the SSP choice.
And on cue he causes the turnover and goals :gotigers.
Rich 14.6-90
Melb 12.8-80
-
Totally confused by the umpiring
Whistle happy one minute, in their pockets the next :-\
-
Miller on at FB.
-
Totally confused by the umpiring
Whistle happy one minute, in their pockets the next :-\
The former when it's Melb and the latter when it should be a free to us :thumbsdown
-
Green's skewed high kick actually worked to Marlion's advantage and he wins the ball and runs into an open goal :gotigers
Rich 15.6-96
Melb 13.8-86
-
Not you WP. Samson has been ordinary. Naismith is clearly ahead on today's effort.
Naismith does one thing Samson refuses to do and that's 2nd effort
Last centre bounce perfect example
-
Thomson Dow very good in the middle
-
Good pressure. Dow to Bolton who finds Maurice 30 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 16.7-103
Melb 13.8-86
-
McAuliffe looks like getting his first run.
-
McAuliffe looks like getting his first run.
Gets Petracca and wins the HTB free :clapping.
-
Great set shot kick from the boundary by Sonz :clapping. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 17.7-109
Melb 13.9-87
-
Who was that then that gathered the ball on the bounce and gave the clean quick give? I missed who it was.
Brown misses a sitter.
110 - 87
-
Good pressure again forces the error. Kmac finds Dan Rioli on 50. Misses.
111 - 87
-
Who was that then that gathered the ball on the bounce and gave the clean quick give? I missed who it was.
Brown misses a sitter.
110 - 87
Think it might have been McAuliffe to Banks
-
Lefau lol. Put Lever on his backside :snidegrin.
Goal to Bolton (nice slot from an acute angle). :gotigers
Rich 18.9-117
Melb 13.10-88
-
Who was that then that gathered the ball on the bounce and gave the clean quick give? I missed who it was.
Brown misses a sitter.
110 - 87
Think it might have been McAuliffe to Banks
Thanks WP. That's even more impressive as he's a first gamer.
-
Got to love "Melbourne have more players out than Richmond" excuse now coming from the commentators.
-
Won by 23 pts if we count the 4 quarters of the seniors game :clapping. Three more periods to go with the VFL players coming on.
-
Looking forward to hearing Kanes thoughts on Monday 😂
Means nothing, just teams experimenting. Blah, blah, blah
-
Got to love "Melbourne have more players out than Richmond" excuse now coming from the commentators.
Who?
Nice result Richmond, positive for the players to take out and learning the Yze-system …
-
Got to love "Melbourne have more players out than Richmond" excuse now coming from the commentators.
They took in a much more experienced squad than we did. Silly statement TBBH
-
You can feel the new coach energy
-
End of 4 quarters (seniors game):
Richmond 3.1 10.6 13.6 18.9-117
Melbourne 5.1 7.5 12.8 14.10-94
Goals: Bolton 4, Balta 3, Koschitzke 2, Green 2, Sonsie 2, Short, Campbell, Pickett, M.Rioli, Lefau
Only preseason but surprisingly a lot to like after the first 20 mins. As a team, the forward half pressure and ball movement on transition. Individually, Naismith, Dow & Gibcus (played 3 qtrs) the top 3 of our lesser likes.
-
Any injuries?
-
Mansell went off early with an ankle
-
Anywhere I can watch replay?
-
On for the VFL periods:
Cumberland, Smith, Coulthard, Hugo, Clarke (#11), Trezise, Hayes-Brown, and SSP contender Schofield (#33).
Lefau (switched to #6), McAuliffe (#21), and Miller have stayed on.
-
Anywhere I can watch replay?
HRT, do you have Kayo?
-
Some nice showings by the cubs I thought. Naismith impressive too, if his body can hold up, he may get a lot more games then we expected.
Who are the Melb players that were missing; Oliver, Salem, anyone else? Whereas we were without Dusty, Taranto, Prestia, Lynch, Nank and Baker.
-
Yassine kicks our first of the VFL 'quarters'.
Rich 19.12-126
Melb 16.10-106
-
Who are the Melb players that were missing; Oliver, Salem, anyone else? Whereas we were without Dusty, Taranto, Prestia, Lynch, Nank and Baker.
Only other one of their stars would be Angus Brayshaw. The other senior players would be Petty, Ben Brown, Tom McDonald, Spargo, Melksham and Hunter. Mind you some of them are fringe players.
-
I missed one of our goals (who kicked it?).
Archie May finds Cumberland in the pocket. Cumbers' radar not on today. That's two misses.
133 - 106
-
Short VFL quarters. Only 20 mins.
End of 5th:
Rich 20.14-134 .......(2.5-17)
Melb 16.10-106 ...... (2.0-12)
Goals: Schofield, Yassine

Wally’s thoughts on the praccy game:
Got killed for the first 10 mins then kicked 10 in a row and ended up winning pretty comfortably.
Overall, very positive sigs. We played with dash and good defensive pressure.
Naismith was super solid and should be our first choice ruck.
Dow very impressive through the middle. One of the best on. Should be best 22.
Balta dangerous up forward in the first half with a few goals. Faded in the second but may have been moved around.
Kosi as above. Kicked a couple.
Defence looks much better with Gibby in and Grimes out.
Seth and Steely were busy and showed a bit of nouse up forward.
The kiwi is a solid unit and absolutely nailed some blokes. Will probs get the rookie spot.
Kane Mcaulliffe came on in the last. He is ripped and took down Trac in a HTB.
Sonsie did some classy things and kicked 2. Looks fit.
Vlas and Broad and Daniel all solid.
Bolton elite and probs BOG.
Samson was horrible. We struggled when he swapped into the ruck with Naismith.
Banks ok.
-
Great summary Willy. Can't disagree with any of that.
-
Top stuff by Cumbers. He was out of position initially but was able to win front position and take the contested mark. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 21.17-143
Melb 16.10-106
-
Anywhere I can watch replay?
HRT, do you have Kayo?
It's also on Fox Footy,
So I'm sure they will replay the 1st four quarters at some point. Don't think they will bother with the 3 VFL ones though
-
Our ressies need some goalkicking practice :P.
-
End of 6th ...... (2nd VFL period):
Rich 21.19-145 .......( 2.5 3.10-28 )
Melb 19.10-124 ......( 2.0 5.0-30 )
Goals: Cumberland, Schofield, Yassine

-
Street out of the centre to start the last period and Lefau takes the contested pack mark 35 out. Misses the set shot though like his teammates (3.11 now).
-
Both Lefau and Schofield doing nice things in the last few minutes.
Schofield took a strong mark at HB then when to Lefau (another good mark). Lefau tackle kept the ball inside 50 and Schofield takes the mark in the forward pocket. Missed from the boundary though.
-
Our VFL side doing their best to lose the overall scoreboard. Down to just 2 pts.
-
End of the 7th and final period ....... (Final 3 VFL periods)
Rich 21.21-147 .......( 2.5 3.10 3.12 )
Melb 22.13-145 ......( 2.0 5.0 8.3 )
Goals: Cumberland, Schofield, Yassine

Umpires took the pee all day. 4 50’s. 3 downfields and 2 blocking frees and everyone of them to the Shemons. Complete BS.
-

"but ...but ..but it's our game style under Hardwick...." :shh
-
I only caught qtrs 3 & 4 but it seems based on the comments here that young Samson hasn’t included his contest work at all. Needs to impose himself more, can’t be losing contests to players half his size let alone the taller opps. The 5 seconds he spends contesting each ruck contest isn’t enough to warrant a spot. Might be 3rd choice ruck at this point.

I know we arent allowed to say the word that rhymes with cat when discussing overweight female players
This isn’t the case with male players I assume .. as Zion Williamson is called out frequently for being fat and having a lack of professionalism
Would anyone here consider MRJ’s condition as being adequate for an AFL footballer?
Are the rules different for aboriginal players or whatever an aboriginal is called in 2024 that isn’t offensive ?
Dan Connors was a flog, and got called out publicly for his conditioning ..

I couldn't give a stuff about what he looks like, I just judge him on performance. If he kicks and creates goals, and performs defensively, then he can look like Billy Bunter for all I care.
-
We can always use an unlikely bulky hero
-
Not a big deal and this may have been discussed already but was there any reason why our playing jumper didn't have a black sash?
It seemed a little empty and boring for a jumper. I think it could at least had a Tiger on the front of it.
-
How shyte was the commentsary btw? Was more like an episode of This is Your Life where Michael Barlow was the guest of honour. :shh

Not a big deal and this may have been discussed already but was there any reason why our playing jumper didn't have a black sash?
It seemed a little empty and boring for a jumper. I think it could at least had a Tiger on the front of it.
Agree. Was awful.

I think the idea is that players have to earn the sash by playing in official AFL games so they no longer put it on the pre season guernseys. But yeah agreed, could atleast chuck the tiger on the front.

So which afl listed players only got game time in quarters 5-7? i.e. who is Defs not playing round 0.

Cumberland, Miller, HRS, Kaleb Smith

HRS - LOL. That dud isn’t even VFL standard.

We don't wear match day guernseys in the pre-seaon. We haven't since Newy was captain. TK is correct players must earn the Sash. Nothing new here
So we wore our yellow training guernseys. Our 2024 training guernseys don't have a Tiger on the front just grey lines (stripes)
Here's a link to the black one on sale at the store

Not looking good for Cumbo. Third coach in a row now that rates others ahead of him.
Also did juddy clarke play?

Cumberland should at least have some trade currency....not a first rounder but at least more than the token crap we usually get for our fringe players... :shh
-
Cumberland still streets ahead of any small forward outside of Bolton when it comes to creating scoring opportunities
I'm sure if he starts the year in the 2s he'll be knocking the door down again.
Wouldn't think he'd have much currency though. Good chance of becoming a player at another club when they pick him up for nothing

Nope
Wasn't Cumberland in the rehab group a few weeks back after he hurt his ankle or knee or something? Might explain why he only played VFL minutes
