Richmond has confirmed its leadership model for the 2024 AFL season, which will feature three vice-captains to support Captain Toby Nankervis.

Liam Baker, Tom Lynch, and Jayden Short have each been appointed as Vice Captains, highlighting their standing within the playing group and broader football department. They will continue to be supported by a strong group of player leaders across the list.

Baker, 26, has played 110 games for Richmond, including every match across the past three seasons.

The seventh-year Tiger has continued to develop on and off the field each year at the Club, playing his role across multiple positions and in 2022 being voted as the AFL’s Most Courageous Player.

Baker’s consistency has seen him finish in the top-six of the Jack Dyer Medal for four consecutive years.

Lynch has booted 192 goals across 85 games playing for Richmond, thriving at the Club since he arrived ahead of the premiership-winning 2019 season.

The 31-year-old has been a leader at Richmond since his arrival, drawing on his long AFL experience, which includes two years as a club captain at Gold Coast.

Lynch was coming off a Jack Dyer Medal winning 2022 season before injury restricted him to just four games last year. He remained a strong and vocal part of the group despite being sidelined.

Short, 28, is entering his 10th season at Richmond after being a rookie selection ahead of the 2015 AFL season.

The long-kicking defender has consistently performed for the Tigers across 153 games, highlighted by winning the best and fairest in the 2020 premiership year.

Short’s voice is easily heard around the Club, and his personality and energy is matched by his professionalism, making him a key driver of standards within the group.

Richmond GM Football Performance Tim Livingstone said:

“We are fortunate to have a strong group of leaders right across the playing list, which is invaluable for our club."

"Part of our 2024 Leadership model is having Toby as Captain, and Liam, Jayden, and Tom as Vice Captains, which is a terrific acknowledgment for them given our selection process is heavily driven by the players and endorsed by our coaches and staff,” he said.

“All four guys have great respect across our Club and the broader competition, and it is exciting to have their support, along with the contributions of all of our playing group to lead us forward.”

Also Jayden short being included shows the respect he has within the club .

Leadership is always a hard one looking from outside the club, coz we don’t know how the players feel about certain players and who’s a natural leader off the field. I can say nank for the most part when he actually plays, baker and lynch all show strong leadership on the field. I love the addition of lynch. Short is a bit of a strange one but he must have the respect of the playing group and he’s been around for a long time now

Someone put it to me the other day that Jack Graham wasn't included in the leadership because he'll be traded/moving on next year?

Imagine if he was in it. Can't have one of your vice captains at risk of being dropped all the time.

Baker would want to show up next week. His game was pathetic and didn't feel it was important to lay a single tackle is not great leadership

If thats what it takes both he and short can go to freo.

sooner we fast track this midfield the better. Its slow and bereft of talent.

Basically only two more drafts before the talent pool is affected  by Tassie - need to hit both of them as hard as we can... :shh
