I’ll be going to this game. Just show the effort that we did against the dons and I’ll be happy.
-
I'm heading down the highway
Just a 35 minute trip.
Show what they did against the Bombers and it's a positive.
And we're a very sneaky show, long shot but a sneaky long shot
-
At $10.50 it's worth a punt imo lol
-
Will be quite the lark at Pork Barrel Park. :shh
-
Will win this. Stuff Geelong and their stupid "we are the best" arrogance.
Sorry used to live in Geelong and just venting the hate 😎
-
Guess Graham in for Prestia is like for like - both just as likely to ping a hammy before halftime.... :shh

Tigers’ burning question: What level of competitiveness will we see in Geelong?
Following a pair of almighty beatings at the hands of the Bulldogs and Lions, we witnessed a much-needed response from Richmond last Saturday in a gallant loss to Essendon. Specifically, there was an improvement in pressuring the opponent and attack on the ball. However, Adem Yze’s men couldn’t punish the Bombers in the same way they punished the Tigers. This Saturday, Richmond travels to play Geelong at the Cattery. It’s not a venue Richmond has historically had success playing at — its last win at Kardinia Park was in Round 9, 2006. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t compete with the same ferocity they did for most of Dreamtime at the ‘G. They will have to attempt to be competitive without mercurial forward-midfielder Shai Bolton, who entered concussion protocols after a heavy collision with teammate Mykelti Lefau, though they might benefit from the returns of Jack Graham (hamstring) and Rhyan Mansell (concussion).

I fear this game might go the way of the recent trip to Brisbane.
Geelong might take this opportunity to beat up on us to wallpaper over recent cracks .
This is going to be an incredibly youthful Richmond team , I just hope they bring effort.
I’m relieved their midfield is not at full strength- that is one area we should be able to compete.

Richmond fired-up for rare away trip to Geelong
Oliver Caffrey
AAP
Fri, 31 May 2024
Richmond are embarking on their first trip to Geelong since 2017 with "nothing to lose" as the Tigers attempt to capitalise on the Cats' four-game losing streak.
After being crunched by the Western Bulldogs and the Brisbane Lions in consecutive weeks in May, Richmond were competitive in a tight Dreamtime defeat to high-flying Essendon last Saturday night.
Superstar Dustin Martin was back to his scintillating best against the Bombers and has loved feasting on Geelong in the past.
The Tigers will be without fellow gun Shai Bolton (concussion) and veteran Dion Prestia (managed) but regain premiership midfielder Jack Graham from injury.
Coach Adem Yze said the Tigers (1-10) would "play on that" when asked about taking on under-fire Geelong as massive underdogs.
"We're going down there with nothing to lose," Yze said.
"We haven't played down there for a while so that's exciting in itself.
"We're going to have to create our own intensity and an energy, so having nothing to lose can be a scary thing (for the opposition)."
Yze will again coach from the bench after a successful match on the sidelines against the Bombers.
"I felt like I could help the players stay engaged ... if we lose momentum, how we can step back in and stay in the moment," he said.
Geelong coach Chris Scott insisted the Cats weren't panicking even amid his worst losing streak since starting at the club back in 2011.
The Cats have lost two successive games at GMHBA Stadium for the first time since 2015.
"I've actually been really happy with the last couple of weeks in the way our players have approached it," Scott said.
"I didn't think we were flying at the start of the year, even though the scoreline was 7-0, and I don't think the last month has been a disaster, either.
"If we hit our straps there's going to be a bad time to play us as well. It's (an) uncomfortably tight (season)."

The Certainties for Round 12 - Geelong versus Richmond
Nic Negrepontis
SEN
1 June 2024
Stewart for 20+ disposals
Tom Stewart has played some of the best games of his career against Richmond and he will feast on the understrength Tigers.
Stewart has been tagged in recent weeks, but will enjoy some greater freedom this weekend and is a lock for 20 touches.
Lefau kicks a goal
Lefau has quickly emerged as a player the Tigers can persist with long-term. He's kicked a goal in four of his last five weeks and is growing week on week.
Expect him to hit the scoreboard again this weekend against a Geelong side that has not been at its best for a month now.

-
Couple of playes practising goal kicking
One of them is Noah Balta
Cumberland there too, didn't miss one ;D
-
The old debutant is the sub routine
-
Family flies over from WA for what will likely be 15 minutes of footy assuming Graham doesn't ping his hammy again early on.... :shh
-
Sonsie still up forward
-
Lefau goal inside the first 30 secs :gotigers.
Blow the siren ;D.
-
Holmes kicks it OOTF. Sonsie ping from the boundary hits the post.
7 - 0
-
Not sure who Nank was trying to find? Just gifted the Cats a goal against the run of play.
-
Thanks Captain. Three Richmond options and give to the only Geelong player.
Another great turnover. :banghead :help
-
Great lace out pass by McAuliffe to Marlion. Misses.
8 - 6
Can't waste these chances. Not copy the VFL side earlier.
-
That's HTB ump ::).
-
Cumberland free 50 out. Hands off to Dusty on the run from just inside 50 = Goal :gotigers
Rich 2.2-14
Geel 1.0-6
-
Strong start by Cumbo
-
Baker hammy apparently and subbed off? :P.
Can we get through one match without someone going down and especially early :banghead.
-
Well Baker isn't subbed off. He was running along the boundary.
-
Marlion cuts back in board and passes it to Lefau 15m out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 3.2-20
Geel 1.0-6
Hopefully Baker is okay :pray
-
Sonsie another poster with the snap.
21 - 6
-
Graham soccers it in the air 35m and Baker's in the right position to mark (lucky). Goal! :gotigers
Rich 4.3-27
Geel 1.0-6
-
1 min to go and we don't protect the defensive side of a HF stoppage :banghead.
-
Bloody late goals! But great start. Tackling well.
-
Mansell you dud...looking forward to 2 more years of that substandard crap..... :banghead
-
Quarter time
Richmond 4.3-27
Geelong 2.2-14
Goals: Lefau 2, Martin, Baker.
Best quarter we've played all year outside of the Swans game.
The last 5 mins though we lost our cool heads. Wasted two open F50s and before our dumb habit of gifting the opposition a late red time goal :thumbsdown.
-
It's a good start but I don't see us maintaining this level considering how unfit we seem compared to the rest of the competition.
Graham has been the key to our success that quarter was instrumental.
McAuliffe was very good also.
Lefau looks very good as was Mansell.

:rollin
Goal to Cumberland. Bounce fooled Kolidjashnij :lol :gotigers
Rich 5.3-33
Geel 2.2-14
-
Mansell did well to kill that against two Cats. Forces a F50 stoppage. Ends up with a Sonsie set shot 35 out. His third miss :P and this was the easiest one.
34 - 14
-
How about the umpire calling back the kick by Geelong. Guy juggles the mark and then quickly kicks it and the umpire calls it back because he marked it… that’s play-on every day of the week.
-
McAuliffe set that shot up. Out to Sonsie who finds Campell 30 out. Misses.
These are all gettable ones :scream.
35 - 20
-
Lefau too strong. Gets it to Sonsie over to Mansell in the goalsquare = Goal! :gotigers
Rich 6.5-41
Geel 3.2-20
-
Sonsie has class, need him getting 20 touches a game.
-
Great F50 pressure Tiges :clapping
McAuliffe two efforts. The centre clearance and then the F50 tackle that wins the HTB free.
Spoiled it though missing the set shot.
2.5 from set shots :scream.
42 - 20
-
Wet weather footy now.
Cumberland finds Lefau 40 out. Another miss :scream.
That's now 2.6 from set shots :scream
43 - 20
-
Samson now from 25 out. We've got to kick these. Yes! That's better. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 7.7-49
Geel 3.2-20
-
Finally!
-
Some real positive signs the last 2 weeks. Some guys starting to settle in roles and at the level.
-
McAuliffe heading towards a Rising Star nomination if this continues :pray.
-
Stupid Marlion. It's not dry conditions to try tricks.
-
:facepalm.
-
Sub Pickett and never play him again.
Momentum killer every week.
-
Seriously get him off
-
Wet weather footy Tiges! Play for territory and stop overhandballing :banghead.
-
Talk about clueless :facepalm.
-
Can see what's going to happen here.
-
I’m putting both of those goals down to Pickett. Like seriously this has been his standard for going on 3 years now :banghead
-
Lmao - good stuff Machine Man.... :clapping
-
Let them back in the game with the last 5 minutes of cluelessness in the wet :banghead.
-
Half-time
Richmond 4.3 7.7-49
Geelong 2.2 5.3-33
Goals: Lefau 2, Martin, Baker, Ryan, Mansell, Cumberland.
Repeat of the first quarter. Dominate general play but waste chances and then gift red time goals to the Cats through being clueless and panicking :scream.
-
Can we maintain the rage.. I hope so.
Should be 6 goals up but hey we are in front..
Few stupid mistakes and poor set goal kicking but as a whole cannot complain. Even Cumberland is showing great signs

Soft effort from Short yet again cost is a goal.
Self fulfilling prophecy about to occur tonight pretty clearly
-
Baker weaves through traffic. Off to Short who hits up Campbell 35 out. Goal! :gotigers
We get the goal straight back.
Rich 8.7-55
Geel 6.3-39
-
Thought the exact same thing. Zero interest in attacking the footy or the man.
-
Short is an even bigger liability than Pickett..... :banghead
How about do some actual defending there Miller... :banghead :banghead
Geez Dow's lack of size & strength kills us at the centre bounces.... :banghead :banghead :banghead
-
We haven’t come out to play so far.
-
Our pressure has dropped away. Allowing the Cats as much time and space as they want :scream.
-
Soft start.
-
We've come out asleep. Can't get our hands on the footy.
-
Horrible defending by Baker.
-
Allowing a Cat to just waltz through the stoppage and out the front :facepalm.
DEFEND TIGERS!
-
Dusty marks in the middle and gets 50. Goal! :gotigers
Geez an understatement to say we needed that.
Rich 9.8-62
Geel 8.4-52
-
Geez we’re getting the rub from the umps tonight.
-
Fumbling and low % panicky decision making :banghead.
-
GET PICKETT OFF
Everytime he goes near it he stuffs it.
-
Stuff me, can we sub Marlion off. And Cumberland just chases shadows and butterflies.
-
Still can't defend on a goal-line :facepalm.
-
Getting smashed in the middle this quarter. Completely turned the game, didn’t make enough of our dominance when we had it.
-
Geez we have dumb players!
Let's play slow, allow Geelong to flood back then allow them to spring off HB with no one defending :banghead
-
Getting killed in transition. Mids not working hard enough
-
The youngsters can't maintain the pressure for a full game but it's up to our experienced players to settle things down and keep their stuffing heads..... :banghead
-
Take Pickett off please.
Bring on the kid.
-
Thanks Stewart. Only way we are winning the ball is via Geelong brainfades.
Samson good mark. Goal! :gotigers
Back in front!
Rich 10.8-68
Geel 10.5-65
-
Getting killed in transition. Mids not working hard enough
Not protecting the defensive side. It's a bad habit of ours.
-
Baker doesn’t look right.
-
Once again Holmes is allowed to burst out of traffic with space galore and no Tigers defensive side :banghead.
-
Marlon again tries to tap the ball on instead of taking possession.
-
Bloody ballwatching allowing the Cats to do whatever they want :banghead.
-
Our F50 entries are clueless and our small forwards are nowhere to be seen at ground level. Just playing into Geelong's hands.
-
Max Holmes lol
Like a kid who dropped his ice cream cone
-
Why is no-one ever within 5 metres of our goal line putting pressure on their defenders? :banghead
-
Can we use our sub please, there are a million guys out there that can’t get near the footy. Pick 1 and sub him in!
-
3/4 time
Richmond 4.3 7.7 10.8-68
Geelong 2.2 5.3 11.5-71
Goals: Lefau 2, Martin 2, Ryan 2, Baker, Mansell, Cumberland, Campbell
Talk about clueless and timid that quarter :thumbsdown.
-
Dow the speed bump..every stoppage they just run though him and away with the ball- even when he gets the ball first..... :pillowfight
-
Why is no-one ever within 5 metres of our goal line putting pressure on their defenders? :banghead
Yep. Just stand back and watch, and let Geelong clear the ball from end to end under no pressure :facepalm.
-
Mids need to get a touch or 2 and apply pressure this quarter. Really really weak that last quarter.
-
Any chance they’ll sub Pickett and give the kid a run
-
Bring on the kid
-
Some of this stuff we're doing is so bizarre we'd be accused of tanking if we weren't so crap.
-
Frees kicks now evening up ::).
-
Here we go.
-
Soft as :banghead.
Bring on the sub Yze. What are you waiting for?!
-
Balta obligatory turnover :rollin
-
Finally!
Smith subbed on for Marlion.
-
Another disgusting sub debut for 20-25min game time.
Disgraceful.
-
Just really really putrid since half time. Our ‘leaders’ can’t get near it.
-
I don't remember a Tiger team that loses its feet so much and so easily. We play like we are wearing ice skates.
-
Not to mention it was Pickett who asked to be subbed and not the other way round.
-
We have literally just stopped running.
-
Not the fittest team going around. :shh
We aren't match fit, we are Meehan fit! :rollin
-
Graham been putrid after half time.
-
Dusty been putrid after half time also.
-
Fumble, fumble, fumble ::)
This second half has been soft as!
-
Seth Campbell is a very average decision maker.
-
Dusty been putrid after half time also.
The whole team has been putrid after half-time. Played like a team that didn't want to win.
-
Dusty been putrid after half time also.
The whole team has been putrid after half-time. Played like a team that didn't want to win.
Maybe we are seriously tanking
-
Game was won in the midfield. Just completely flipped at the half.
-
Brave effort. Not fit enough, lots of youngsters.
No effective forwards except Lefau who's done his knee there.
-
Lefau came down with a straight leg and hyper-extended the knee :help.
-
Good honourable loss and our draft position hasn’t been compromised
-
Marlion with calf soreness.
Lefau was jogging off with that knee :huh.
-
Not a fan of tanking. Game of 2 halves.. pathetic .
Tanking is a loser mentality
-
Marlion with calf soreness.
Lefau was jogging off with that knee :huh.
Hopefully Lefau is ok. Hopefully Marlion is out for a while. Shouldn't be playing.
-
Brave effort. Not fit enough, lots of youngsters.
No effective forwards except Lefau who's done his knee there.
Not disputing the rest of your post pmac, but this second half has been anything but brave. We just rolled over. It's been a 10 goal flip since we lead by 29 pts late in the 2nd and we've kicked just 3.2 since then. At least go down swinging.
-
Lefau hyper extended the knee.
Hopefully no ligament damage.
-
Marlion with calf soreness.
Lefau was jogging off with that knee :huh.
Hopefully Lefau is ok. Hopefully Marlion is out for a while. Shouldn't be playing.
Yep, touchwood about Lefau :pray.
We do need Marlion to get to 100 games though in or out of form.
-
Seriously can't underestimate how much we miss MRJ's defensive pressure.... :shh
-
Most of the senior players should be embarrassed by their lack of effort in the second half.
-
SONSIE is a waste of time and space. Nothing player
-
Great first half but got smashed once again in the middle. We have many players who fumble. For me they are the ones who need to go as it costs us goals. Overall it was not a bad game.
-
Final Score
Richmond 4.3 7.7 10.8 10.9-69
Geelong 2.2 5.3 11.5 15.9-99
Goals: Lefau 2, Martin 2, Ryan 2, Baker, Mansell, Cumberland, Campbell
3.2 to 10.6 after half-time says it all. Add the two late goals the Cats kicked just before HT and we just caved. Can accept us tiring late given all the cubs out there, but when you come out after a 20 min HT rest and in front on the scoreboard, you should still be fresh and keen to go again. We came out asleep, timid and clueless.
-
Serious question. Is there a tanking element to losses like this?
The effort particularly from the senior players just wasn't there after half time.
-
SONSIE is a waste of time and space. Nothing player
Can at least hit a target unlike White Jon Dow.... :shh
-
Competitive losses are a win . First half was very encouraging.
-
SONSIE is a waste of time and space. Nothing player
How would you like it if I said you were a nothing person, waste of time and space ?!
-
Came out with some fight which was great to see.
Not much we can do if we're not fit enough to compete for 4 quarters but that's what you get with mediocre fitness department led by a mediocre fitness department head.
If we won't invest in quality then it will reflect onto the team.
We have a few injuries and it's good to see some games into some players we might find useful to keep or trade in the future.
A lot of our players just can't run both ways and just don't have the juice or skill to get more ball.
Dow just isn't good and is probably all we will get from him. I would rather see Sonsie in there for a few weeks but maybe he isn't as fit as Dow so that might be the reason.
McAuliffe was really good in the first half and couldnt find it in the second half.
I thought Ralph-Malph do some good things tonight but he also faded in the last.
Thought our defence fought it out without the help of the mids at all in the second half. Brown soundly beaten all night by Dempsey and Vlaustin had a pretty uninspiring night by his standards.
Like most others, Graham just didn't have the legs to play more than a half of footy.
Samson did better than I expected. Great to see both rucks get some marks tonight. Nankervis dominated ruck play but repeatedly gave it the opposition mids so what's the point "winning taps"?
Overall a better performance than I expected.
-
Na was back to rubbish
-
Tonight wasn't a tank, tanking happens positionally. Players don't tank, as if Broad would be happy with tanking for draft picks or Nank. Players want to sing the song.
Just a tale of a young side that had a huge crack, pressure rating elite for 1st half and then took foot off the gas in 2nd. Maybe happy with effort or thought others would do it for them. Thats a lack of experience. Add that some mediocre Cats players who were shocking first half turned up in the 2nd. Bowes, Dempsey etc.
-
Serious question. Is there a tanking element to losses like this?
The effort particularly from the senior players just wasn't there after half time.
Our long injury list is doing the tanking job for us. We wouldn't be 2nd last with just one win if we had close to our full list to choose from. The Swans win came about thanks to Lynch and Taranto playing amongst others. In the long term, we'll be better off for this. The cubs are getting regular games and we'll find out who is up to AFL level. Better that than doing a St Kilda and finishing just outside the top 8 in no man's land fooling ourselves into thinking we're better than we actually are.
-
Spot on MT, this way the kids get experience and the clubs sees who’s shows enough potential!
-
On the bright side - top 2 picks still in play..... :gotigers

First half was sensational. Best footy we've played all season. Had Pur foot on their throats until Pickett with more of his selfish antics gifted them 2 goals
Held on in the 3rd as best we could with fatigue setting in
Again in the 4th held on as best we could until the dam broke and then they got junk time goals.
Will say this it isn't all doom and gloom at Punt Road, some of the Cubs are showing a bit and with that there's alot to like about the future

Richmond’s improvement in Dreamtime wasn’t a one-off
Lachlan Geleit
SEN
2 June 2024
While Richmond went down by 12 points to Essendon last week, there were clear signs of improvement after back-to-back losses of more than 90 points.
There was clearly improved effort in that clash, but many were pondering whether that was just their players getting up for a big game.
Well, after Saturday’s 30-point loss to Geelong, we can at least know that the Tigers are beginning to figure some things out.
Even though they’re now 1-11, there are signs there that this team won’t be disastrous easy beats for the rest of 2024. They even led at Geelong until the Cats snatched the lead back 24 minutes into the third quarter.
There are obviously still some talent issues with the likes of Shai Bolton, Josh Gibcus, Jacob Hopper, Tom Lynch and Tim Taranto sidelined. Still, Adem Yze is at least getting a bedrock of effort and intensity.
Once even a few of those big names return, this side will improve pretty quickly and should scare a few sides in the second half of the campaign.
It’s not all doom and gloom at Tigerland as many felt was the case just a fortnight ago.

As long as we only scare 'em and don't actually beat 'em....but you can just see us coming home with a wet sail once the big guns start returning and winning half a dozen meaningless games that'll see us miss out on getting any of Smith/Smillie/O'Sullivan/Trainor as well as a chance to bid on the top academy players and get more high picks... :shh

I see us winning a few late as well
Brisbane and Adelaide SHOULD win enough to keep us at bay
We really don’t want to win this week
St Kilda and West Coast are the problem .. we want them winning a couple more each
Then we can come home with a wet sail, finish the year off well and still finish second last
-
Honourable losses.

Report Card: Round 12

RICHMOND
Richmond’s attempt at staging a tremendous upset of the Cats at GMHBA Stadium proved futile, despite a spirited effort at a venue they’ve had a torrid time playing at in recent decades. The Tigers built a 29-point second-quarter lead off the back of incessant ball pressure and a surge mentality that reminded of the club’s dynastic premiership period. After a gallant effort in Dreamtime at the ‘G last Saturday, Adem Yze’s undermanned brigade can again hold their heads high in defeat — but will be looking to sustain their manic pressure over a four-quarter period.
In the votes
Liam Baker (game-high 31 disposals, 15 contested possessions, five clearances, six tackles, one goal) led the way for Richmond between the arcs, while Noah Balta (18 disposals, nine marks, three contested grabs, equal-game-high nine intercept possessions) stood tall behind the ball. Mykelti Lefau (two goals) was a constant threat inside forward 50.
Room for improvement
Finishing games out remains a key point of improvement for these Tigers, as they continue to lick their injury wounds — Marlion Pickett was subbed out with calf tightness, while emerging forward Mykelti Lefau (knee) is facing 12 months on the sidelines with an ACL tear. After equalling Geelong’s inside-50 tally in the first half, Richmond ended up -23 in the count at full-time.
