Adelaide v Richmond Preview
Seb Mottram
SEN
5 June 2024
The most lacklustre Thursday night clash seen so far in 2024, there’s still plenty on the line when Adelaide (14th) hosts Richmond (17th) to kick off Round 13.
With just one victory from their last four games, Matthew Nicks’ Crows are desperate to get back on the winner’s list and keep in touch with the top eight. A loss will likely see them 14 points behind 8th place heading into the bye, with Sydney to come the following week. Against a Richmond outfit missing almost 10 of its best 23 players, defeat on Thursday night would signal season over for Adelaide.
But the Crows won’t find it easy. They have the most season-ending injuries of any club after Richmond, with Matt Crouch (shoulder) joining that list this week. Taylor Walker (back) and Jordan Dawson (foot) will also need to prove their fitness.
Nicks’ men have only won two of their six games at Adelaide Oval this year and are 1-1 in Thursday night fixtures in 2024. They’ve also failed to capitalise on a blockbuster fixture, with just one victory coming in a night game.
On the other hand, Richmond has punched above its weight in recent weeks. Fielding 12 players with less than 50 games against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium in Round 12, the Adem Yze’s Tigers scrapped and fought their way to a five-goal lead in the shadows of half-time before running out of legs after the break.
It followed up a competitive effort in Dreamtime at the ‘G against Essendon as proof the young Tigers are starting to buy in.
But without a discernable gameplan and against a Crows outfit that simply has to come out breathing fire, the Tigers aren’t expected to fire too many shots.
Tip: Adelaide by 38 points.

THE 4 CERTAINTIES FOR ADELAIDE VERSUS RICHMOND
BY ANDREW SLEVISON & SEB MOTTRAM
Here is what we consider certainties for the Round 13 Thursday night clash between Adelaide and Richmond.
Adelaide
Soligo for 25+ disposals, 5+ clearances
Jake Soligo has been on fire in 2024, particularly at Adelaide Oval.
In the six games the Crows have played at their home ground this season, Soligo had a quiet one against Geelong and was subbed off at half-time against the Eagles with 14 touches to his name.
Every other contest at Adelaide Oval has seen Soligo rack up at least 27 disposals and five clearances.
No club averages fewer clearances than the Tigers and Soligo will be eyeing a performance to get his side back on the map.
Rachele to kick one or more goals
Plenty has been shaken up in Adelaide this week, with Josh Rachele proving a key aspect of the fallout to last week’s loss against Hawthorn.
The 21-year-old told media earlier this week that he didn’t know why his midfield time had been reduced in Round 12, a comment that has since been criticised.
The last time Rachele was in the media after his side’s loss to Essendon, he bounced back with his best game of the year against North Melbourne the following week.
The 2021 top draftee has goaled in every game at Adelaide Oval this year bar one and coming up against 17th-placed Richmond, he should continue that form.
Richmond
Taranto to have 25+ disposals
Tim Taranto returns from a broken wrist and should be right back in the thick of the action for the Tigers on Thursday night.
In his five outings in 2024 he has amassed 25 or more disposals on three occasions after a tardy start in his first two matches.
The Tigers have been crying out for the presence of the reigning best and fairest back in the middle and we expect him to be prolific.
Taranto has had 25 or more touches in 20 of his 28 Richmond appearances and that should be the case again.
Ryan to kick at least a goal
Samson Ryan is likely to play a key role as a marking forward given the injuries to Richmond’s forwards.
Now that Mykelti Lefau is out, the Tigers will be forced to go through Ryan and/or Jacob Koschitzke.
Given that Ryan booted a career high of three majors against the Crows early last season, we’ll side with him to find the big sticks on at least one occasion.
He kicked two against Geelong last weekend and has scored at least a goal in 10 of his 17 matches over the last two seasons.
With limited other tall options inside 50, Ryan should get his chance.

NO LATE CHANGES
SUBSTITUTES
Adelaide: Ned McHenry
Richmond: Kane McAuliffe
https://www.afl.com.au/news/1145107/follow-it-live-adelaide-crows-v-richmond-tigers
Mitch Cleary on 7news said Kosi will start up forward.
-
Don't agree with McAuliffe as the sub
Bad call
-
It’s a tradition now. If your family is at the game u are the sub
-
Dow gets to start ahead of McAuliffe..... :joker :propeller :facepalm
-
Insurance for Presty to do a hammy in the first quarter.
-
Shocking kick Shai.
Don't know what Graham was thinking?! :huh3
-
Lucky there Nank. Had a teammate running into 50 and you burnt him.
Cumberland a bit lucky too with that free. Take it. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 1.0-6
Adel 0.1-1
-
What's with the jumper?
I don't like the black on the back.
We win a premiership in the other one why the heck do we need to change it?
-
Picked the wrong option with every kick towards F50 :facepalm.
-
What's with the jumper?
I don't like the black on the back.
We win a premiership in the other one why the heck do we need to change it?
Agree. White numbers on yellow doesn't work.
-
Kmac free from 45. Straight through the middle. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 2.0-12
Adel 0.1-1
-
Should have been a free to Dow in front of goal.
We get it back with Kmac 45 out. This one is sprayed. We get a point from the snap.
13 - 1
-
Bolton dropped one that landed in his lap. Graham sprays badly the snap.
14 - 2
-
Kmac ping misses.
15 - 2
Got to make the most of these chances.
-
KMac having a day out
-
They look on. Baker having a day out. His attack is like
Chalk and cheese compared to dow, who should
Be dropped
-
Taranto's kick a touch lucky. Gets out the back and Mansell gathers, bounces inside 50 and bananas a goal :gotigers.
Rich 3.3-21
Adel 0.3-3
-
Stupid by Shai cost us a goal
And just a comment on Tom Brown, non competitive in a couple of contests, unacceptable
We should be 4 goals up :banghead
-
Here we go again. Coughing up soft red time goals :banghead.
-
Shai… 3 bounces out of the centre and runs himself into trouble. Should have been an uncontested running shot at goal 🤯
-
Here we go again. Coughing up soft red time goals :banghead.
And should have been another after Kosi drops what he should taken
-
Can our bloody forwards get into position and attack the footy :banghead.
-
These late quarter fade outs are ridiculous
-
These late quarter fade outs are ridiculous
Fitness issue #magic :shh
-
These late quarter fade outs are ridiculous
It's nothing new
We did it under Dimmw
I don't think we can afford to have Kosi and Ryan in the F50 together
-
These late quarter fade outs are ridiculous
Fitness issue #magic :shh
Please has nothing to do with fitness
It's all got to do with nothing between the ears
-
I like the way we’ve started, some ball control and some overlap guy running. We’re competing but I sometimes feel we don’t value possessions high enough in the F50. Too many blind, loopy handballs to no one rather that taking any more care to deliver a better quality disposal.
-
These late quarter fade outs are ridiculous
Fitness issue #magic :shh
Please has nothing to do with fitness
It's all got to do with nothing between the ears
Couldn't wait to jump on that grenade could you - loyal soldier of the meehan corp.... ::)
-
Quarter time
Richmond 3.4-22
Adelaide 2.4-16
Goals: Cumberland, McIntosh, Mansell.
2 sucker (lucky it wasn't 3) goals on the rebound in red time thanks to our out of position forwards allowing the Crows to bounce out of the front of our F50 under no pressure. Especially our small forwards who clearly don't know the meaning of front and square. Schoolboy stuff! :banghead
Should be 4 goals up.
-
Too many soft pricks with no appetite for the contest.
-
WTF are we not wearing our 2017 GF strip just for the LoLS
-
These late quarter fade outs are ridiculous
Fitness issue #magic :shh
Please has nothing to do with fitness
It's all got to do with nothing between the ears
Couldn't wait to jump on that grenade could you - loyal soldier of the meehan corp.... ::)
No Meehan fan but fatigue isn't a big issue in the first quarter. Our midfield-forward connection is hopeless as are our forwards. Has cost us 4 goals already tonight.
-
We fade out in every quarter and every game - ya can't say fitness has nothing to do with it.... :shh
-
Campbell :gotigers
Rich 4.4-28
Adel 2.4-16
-
Graham is just too slow
-
Classic example there of how Graham's lack of pace just kills us.... :banghead
-
Graham is just too slow
snap :shh
-
Those with an eye to the draft won’t like what happens the back half of the year
This won’t be a bottom two side with a decent injury run
Prepare for us to finish in ladder no man’s land
-
Great example of Dow not attacking contests and zero 2nd effort
-
Some structure issues down in defence.
This should be addressed.
-
We fade out in every quarter and every game - ya can't say fitness has nothing to do with it.... :shh
Later quarters yes but dumbness going forward has gifted the Crows all 3 of their goals. Our forward half play is totally clueless :banghead.
-
Great example of Dow not attacking contests and zero 2nd effort
Agree
Also agree with those posting about Graham
Runs like he’s stuck on a treadmill .. liability
Despite people on here quoting figures in the past that he’s our fastest runner :lol :lol :lol
-
Dow is really, really bad
-
Great example of Dow not attacking contests and zero 2nd effort
But I keep getting told he's our most improved player and is a clearance machine now.... :shh
-
Poor coaching continuing to just bomb it long.
-
Exhibit A. Another aimless long bomb to no one :banghead.
4th Crows goal on the rebound turnover :banghead.
-
Great example of Dow not attacking contests and zero 2nd effort
But I keep getting told he's our most improved player and is a clearance machine now.... :shh
And getting told about Graham’s electric pace
-
Worst decision of the year against Nick there.
Boy the umpiring is pathetic now
-
Here come the men in the fluro..... ::)
-
Speaking about clueless, how about the ump paying that as a "push" against Floss :facepalm ::).
-
Speaking about clueless, how about the ump paying that as a "push" against Floss :facepalm ::).
There was a clear free kick to Adelaide missed when Campbell goaled
Even upperer
-
Graham across to Prestia on 50. Hands off to Broad on the run = Goal! :gotigers
Rich 5.4-34
Adel 5.5-35
-
These umps :facepalm.
-
Some really soft efforts to tackle by Prestia and Short.
-
Ok now I'm starting to wonder if Brown's elite foot skills are indeed as mythical as Shortstep's..... :shh
-
Our inability to protect the defensive side and be front and square at contests is terrible. It's schoolboy stuff. We all just run past the footy and leave a huge space for the opposition forward of the ball for them :help.
-
Good stuff recruiting a key forward who can't mark to save himself #Koshitske... :facepalm
-
GET FRONT AND BLOODY SQUARE YOU IDIOTS! :banghead
-
Another blinder from Shortsteps so far.... :clapping
-
PIN THE ARM!
U14s stuff! :banghead
-
Kosi is also completely useless
-
Captain courageous is getting his pants pulled down by a 6 gamer :banghead :help
2 marks :rollin
-
So when we duck it's htb..... ::)
-
Dow has the strength of a school boy
-
OMG, we actually found and hit a target inside 50.
Mansell misses.
35 - 36
-
Someone needs to remind Bolton that he's a solid not a liquid..... :shh
-
So when we duck it's htb..... ::)
But a Crow diving and laying on the ball 15m out isn't HTB. They can't complain about the Draper one now.
-
Kosi is stuffen useless
-
Dow has the strength of a school boy
It's just beyond embarrassing now.....almost starting to feel sorry for him and his apologists....almost.... :shh
-
Give sonsie a run in the middle and ship Graham/Dow off to anywhere but Adelaide oval
-
Dow has the strength of a school boy
He literally gets ragdolled. It’s not even his physical strength at this point because people of similar weight don’t get bumped off like he does ( stack in his first year or smaller guys like kozzie etc ) he’s just soft and it’s all mental. He doesn’t have an attack mindset and is happy to just coast along. Seen enough of him 2 months ago and nothing has changed
-
Dow has the strength of a school boy
It's just beyond embarrassing now.....almost starting to feel sorry for him and his apologists....almost.... :shh
:shh :shh
-
Good stuff recruiting a key forward who can't mark to save himself #Koshitske... :facepalm
Maybe he's been tutored by Ryan :whistle
-
Half-time
Richmond 3.4 5.5-35
Adelaide 2.4 5.6-36
Goals: Cumberland, McIntosh, Mansell, Campbell, Broad.
After wasting first quarter chances, we're probably fortunate to be just a point down after that 2nd quarter. We have no idea and system forward of centre outside the long aimless bomb to out of position forwards.
-
Kosi, what to make of this player.
-
Good stuff recruiting a key forward who can't mark to save himself #Koshitske... :facepalm
Maybe he's been tutored by Ryan :whistle
Or vice versa given he's vastly more experienced and it's his primary job...... :shh
-
Cumberland is also an expert a manning up the least influential opponent on the ground. Every single time, zero effort to cut out the dangerous option 5 meters away.
-
Good stuff recruiting a key forward who can't mark to save himself #Koshitske... :facepalm
Maybe he's been tutored by Ryan :whistle
Just 2 marks in a whole half between them :P.
-
Good stuff recruiting a key forward who can't mark to save himself #Koshitske... :facepalm
Maybe he's been tutored by Ryan :whistle
Or vice versa given he's vastly more experienced and it's his primary job...... :shh
Touche
-
Move Brown forward this half. Been poor thus far so would swap him for Kosi before Kosi is subbed.
-
God I hope Dimma still loves Shortsteps..... :shh
-

-
The Good:
Balta - killing in down back
Mansell - pressure machine up forward
Baker - just gets it done.
The Bad:
Nankervis - should be dominating but once again seems to get beaten by hacks or youngsters when he should be dominating - only 2 marks and 5 disposals and taps to no one. :banghead
Dow - just isn't a good midfielder or player
Prestia - he really has just fallen off the cliff really has no impact anymore
The Ugly:
Koschitzke - just a nothing player that is out of his depth in this level.
Forward Play- Our forward cohesion and entires are woeful
-
The Tigers have struggled to transition the ball this quarter with six of eight chains starting in their defensive half being intercepted by the Crows.
Of 55 possessions chains in the first half for Adelaide, just eight have originated in their forward half with 42 coming from their defensive half.
https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/6001#timeline

Erin Phillips is completely useless but I guess she ticks two boxes..... :whistle
-
15-8 free kicks so far. Cheats.

Well done Kosi
-
Gee that Brown kick to Kosi was delicate AF
-
Cumbo Cumbo Cumbo :clapping :clapping :clapping
Yeah
Apparently the worst player to ever pull on a Richmond jumper
Absolute joke :lol :lol :lol :lol
We are a side that can’t score , and he isn’t worth a shot
Moronic
GO CUMBO
-
Brown long and Bolton marks out the back of the pack 35 out.
Ahh Shai. Misses the easy ones.
60 - 42
-
Seriously, what hope does Kosi have with delivery like what Dow just dished up :help
-
Balta having a game and a half.
-
Dow............. :banghead
-
Yes it was a throw but well done by Kosi , great 2nd effort
-
Was that Baker with that handpass out the corner of his eye?
Taranto finds Baker. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 10.6-66
Adel 6.6-42
-
Balta having a game and a half.
Superstar in the making. Just leave down back FFS.
-
Even that was a mistake from Dow but we got away with it..... :joker
-
Very lucky there Broady.
-
I think brown needs a rest.
-
Balta having a game and a half.
Superstar in the making. Just leave down back FFS.
took 20 years but finally a good post
-
"The ball got knocked out" ::)
"Unlucky" ::)
That's meant to be HTB you muppet under the new stricter interpretation ::).
-
Here come the umps and the red time goals...... :banghead
-
I think brown needs a rest.
Agree
A couple of good kicks this qtr but overall been very disappointing
-
Balta having a game and a half.
Superstar in the making. Just leave down back FFS.
took 20 years but finally a good post
:shh :shh :shh
-
Not sure if Shai is stupid, selfish or both, but stuff me he can do some really really dumb stuff!
-
Kosi good mark inside 50 not paid
Then a contested mark on the back flank and showed some prick as well
Has actually been ok this quarter
-
KMac :clapping
-
Kmac great goal :o :gotigers
Rich 11.6-72
Adel 7.8-50
-
Kosi good mark inside 50 not paid
Then a contested mark on the back flank and showed some prick as well
Has actually been ok this quarter
Won't be playing next week now though..... :shh
-
Any chance we can use the sub?
It’s a disgrace he was the sub anyway
-
That crows player must be so soft. Got winded and needed play stopped and trainers. FMD
-
Kosi probably thinking he won't be playing next week anyway with Lynch back.
-
Kosi is going to be in strife
And Cumberland massive brain fade :scream
-
Stupid selfish Cumberland. Just cost a shot on goal :banghead.
-
KMac :clapping
Having a rare good one...... :clapping
-
Not sure who the Adelaide defender was there, but jeez he went down like a concrete helicopter
-
Kosi good mark inside 50 not paid
Then a contested mark on the back flank and showed some prick as well
Has actually been ok this quarter
I like the elbow to the midriff. If he keeps that up I may change my mind about him.
-
For all the good stuff Cumberland has done tonight
That brain fade could be very costly
Hope for Noah’s sake it isnt
-
3/4 time
Richmond 3.4 5.5 11.6-72
Adelaide 2.4 5.6 7.8-50
Goals: Cumberland 3, McIntosh 2, Mansell 2, Campbell, Broad, Baker, Koschitzke.
6 goal quarter :o.
-
Cumbo you effwit...
-
Not sure who the Adelaide defender was there, but jeez he went down like a concrete helicopter
It was the Irishman that Kosi whacked in the guts behind play
-
I know it's technically a stupid thing to do but that sort of spice I really like especially from our forwards who should be feared and not to be trifled with.
If Cumberland keeps that sort of interest and concern for his teammates he has my vote. :clapping
All he needs to do now is show the ball to one of those Adelaide defenders as he slams through the sealer
-
Not sure what was more silly, Cumbo lightly pushing that bloke in the chest or the umpire paying the softest of frees for it
-
Not sure who the Adelaide defender was there, but jeez he went down like a concrete helicopter
It was the Irishman that Kosi whacked in the guts behind play
Bloody soft as butter!
-
That was almost Benny hill stuff at the end there. Cumbo giving away a shot at goal. Prestia kicking it backwards straight to the oppo :banghead
-
Cumberland you moron
-
Not sure what was more silly, Cumbo lightly pushing that bloke in the chest or the umpire paying the softest of frees for it
Seeing it cost us a goal I think it was a little more than silly
-
Stupid selfish Cumberland. Just cost a shot on goal :banghead.
Selfish my stuffing arse
Idiotic yes
Inexcusable absolutely
Selfish ????
He was sticking up for Mansell, his teammate.. opposite of selfish
-
Not sure what was more silly, Cumbo lightly pushing that bloke in the chest or the umpire paying the softest of frees for it
Inb4 the Cumbo bashers focus on that and not the goals.... :shh

Not the time to try and be a 'hero'. It cost the team a goal. It was selfish.
-
Here we go :banghead
-
Yep here we go
:banghead
Easy centre clearances
-
I’ve seen this movie before.
-
Not much effort out there. Tank is on.
-
Here comes the "fade out"....#top2picks :shh
-
So instead of being 28 pts up, it's now back to 10 :banghead.
-
So how was that not HTB against Dawson ::).
-
Here comes the "fade out"....#top2picks :shh
Not much effort out there. Tank is on.
Hope so
-
Lmao - does it litterally have to as obvious as Shaw on Riewoldt in the GF replay for us to get a htb? :banghead
-
Thank goodness for Campbell
Short heard footsteps and dropped what he should have marked
-
Shorty you were very lucky there.
Campbell great goal on the run :gotigers.
Rich 12.6-78
Adel 9.9-63
-
Gorgeous kick by Campbell. He's going to be a good player blimey we've done well there.
Good smarts, skills and physicality.
-
We actually got a free this qtr.
-
Bolton almost from the pocket. Poster.
79 - 63
-
Kosi has steadily improved as the games gone on.
-
Blue muppets doing their best not to pay us frees ::)
-
Yet again Dow plays spectator

Classic Shortsteps there.... :clapping
-
Yet again Dow plays spectator
Yep they put the spectator on the field and made the player the sub.... :banghead
-
McAuliffe subbed on.
Not sure who was taken off?
-
Sonsie subbed off.
-
McAuliffe subbed on.
Not sure who was taken off?
Sonsie....wasn't great but fmd how Dow is still out there.... :banghead
-
Rachele lmao 🤣
How scared is she
-
Apparently you can hold players off the ball now if they're wearing yellow..... ::)
-
fmd our tacklers just follow the ball ...just no anticipation whatsoever.... :banghead
-
After all the non-HTBs calls, they ping us ::)
-
Commentators harping on about how good Short has been
As his pathetic kick results in a turnover and a goal
-
Seriously these umps are trying to get the Crows over the line ::).
-
Umpires aren’t going to let us get over the line.
-
Just take McAulliffe's head off - play on... :banghead
-
Can we buy an obvious free kick, just 1
-
Pathetic by Dan rioli
Absolutely pathetic
-
What a dumb kick by Rioli
-
Prestia off with calf soreness :P.
-
Surely even we can't lose it in 20 secs.
-
:gotigers :gotigers :gotigers
Crows players and fans to get to hear our theme song again :rollin
-
Well done Tiges
-
To hell with tanking. Nothing better than a W :gotigers
-
I just left work/the lab. Holy crap tigers won? Cummy kicked 3? Should I buy a lotto ticket? Can someone give me a review of how we went and where was it won? I’m assuming taranto made a massive difference?
-
baby steps..... :shh
Must admit - instincts take over during the game, but once it's over, a win feels a bit like a draw at this point....(https://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_neutral.gif)
Definitely want to win next week though..... :gotigers

played a good game. Tough as old boots

Anyone thinking we will finish bottom two is dreaming
May as well win the next 10 and play finals
Better than what’s about to happen
-
We need some morale boosting wins and this is one. Why continue with Dow at this point ? I’ve never seen such a soft timid player be given game after game. What does he even bring to the table ?
Bolton same old arrogant, dumb stuff.
Balta dominant.
Brown looks tired and needs a rest
Prestia injured again ? Take him out back at this point.
Having Taranto and baker really strengthen the mids. Throw McAuliffe and sonesie in with them and let them develop
-
Good to hear our song at the end of a game, for a change …
Wrapped for the young blokes to taste a win!

I just left work/the lab. Holy crap tigers won? Cummy kicked 3? Should I buy a lotto ticket? Can someone give me a review of how we went and where was it won? I’m assuming taranto made a massive difference?
A mixture of it being a game between two bottom sides, our ins making us stronger especially across the midfield, the Crows' outs making them gettable, and Balta being a wall a kick behind the ball (one of his best games ever).
We won it with our six goal 3rd quarter. Got enough of a break to hang on in the last.

Agree but when we're challenging again he'll go the way of Miles & Lloyd..... :shh

Our list close to full strength is a 10th-14th one IMHO. Only reason we are bottom 2 is due to our horrendously long injury list. Get Lynch back up forward and keep him, Taranto and co. on the park, and we'll definitely win a few more on the run home. Still need to play the cubs though as they are the future.

Full strength 7-12th I think
We will end up in the horrible area a few positions higher than is ideal
Desperately need the eagles to pull their fingers out
-
Nice to have a win but I'd rather a better pick at this stage, hate to say it.
Proud of them though. They had a legitimate dip. Won the tackles despite losing disposals.
-
Mid table finishes that get us nowhere and cause us to overrate our list until we finally bottom out when Tassie comes in.....#TheRichmondWay.... :clapping :gotigers :clapping

Agree
At the moment it hasn’t shafted us , but we wouldn’t want to gain too much momentum
-
Off topic a little , but Adelaide barely have anyone left from the 2017 GF on their list .!
-
Tigers theme song would rankle every Adelaide supporter especially played at their home fortress. Go Tigers, great job and well done.
Must say I like YZE coaching from the boundary
-
Taranto makes such a difference to this team. His ability to win contests get to contests and tackle is first class.

In Korea with Mini-me and went to dinner but checking the scores. Went back to our hotel for last half of fourth quarter and Mini got the game up on her laptop only to have the coverage freeze in the dying last 20 secs. Happy to have my tips wrong :gotigers

Full strength 7-12th I think
Full strength with new coach bounce I reckon we would have been 6-10
I still reckon we will get a better idea of where we are as club especially list wise in 2025

I think the injuries and mess of a season could be a blessing in disguise
Absolutely crucial we win some games for the cubs, but not too many

Yep , fair call
I just think and I know I'm in minority but I don't think our list is in as bad a shape as it appears.
Through this horrible season we are seeing a lot of positives from our Cubs especially a couple who so many of us (rightly IMO) have been critical of (eg Hugo, even Cumberland the last 2 weeks). Yes there are some that have stagnated eg Dow and Ryan but the others are showing plenty
Couple in thwtcwe seem to have found some gems in Campbell and McAuliffe and things aren't IMHO as dire as what it appears
-
#playthecubs
that’s what 2024 is about!
Taranto is huge for us.
Campbell, Brown, McAuliffe, HRS, Miller ✅
-
I reckon we have missed the boat to a degree. Yes we have played some kids almost only becuase of injuries and too often even then reluctantly. but we could have played a more and got more games into them as well.
Two examples this week McAuliffe as sub and Smith dropped having got a few minutes the week before. missed an opportunity imo to at least look at one or two talls in Bauer, Gray, Blight. Trouble with is it means favorites like Short dow and McIntosh have to be dropped.
Funny how quickly people forget after a meaningless win against a very poor opposition last night.

Play who we have been crucified with. Injuries. You said Bauer he needs match fitness after his long Injuries. Blight and Gray let them learn the system and the fundamentals in the vfl then get them in. Mate kids have played by force or not it's happened. I agree there is a few experience heads letting us down and would rather see them out, but we need some guiding the cubs to.
-
Windbag just finding any old reason to moan as per usual.
-
Yeah...
Like stuff me, this year hasn't been good. But last night we got to watch our club get a win and see some young kids play some good footy. But nah let's come on here and write essays on how we've done it all wrong
Just enjoy the occasional win every once n a while eh..

I've been calling for kmac to be dropped, but honestly, last night he was one of our best. Cannot drop him if he keeps this level of performance up. Dow is improving each week and will only get better. SHORT is the one who needs to be dropped. All he does is get cheap stats . Pumps up his numbers , runs meaningless KMs just to butcher the ball.
-
Yeah...

We’ve only played 40 this year. How dare we be so conservative.

lol at you lot it was a mistake riddled game and just highlighted how poor Adelaide are going atm.
A poor team beat an even poorer team.
Do people really think we have done well with the likes of Smith and McAuliffe and others.
The hypocrisy of some here People have complained bitterly about seniors not getting dropped and kids not getting rewarded.
It has permeated the whole site yet here we win a nothing game and its like watching leopards change their spots.

This is like getting a great steak and whinging because the chips are a little over cooked.
Kevin Sheedy once described his coaching career as being 8 hours of highlights.
Even you can’t claim that

Well forgive me and anyone else who actually enjoyed the fact we won a game. Can see some light at the end of what for the last month in particular has been pitch black tunnel. Or is enjoying seeing the likes of Campbell, McAuliffe, Hugo, Lefau develop.
Sorry if that doesn't fit your ultra never-ending narrative of negativity and incessant bagging of nearly everything the Club does but we don't always get what we want do we?
I'll take the glass half full approach in this instance, you can continue down your path of negativity and misery because clearly you know no other way

All of us who disagree on certain players at times can at least put that on the backburner and simply enjoy a win sometimes

AFL Report Card
Foxsports
11 June 2024
RICHMOND
A spirited Richmond outfit staged an unexpected upset victory over the Crows on Thursday night at Adelaide Oval, resigning the Crows to further sorrow in a lost year. After going into half-time neck-and-neck, the Tigers booted five unanswered goals to begin the second half, taking a 22-point lead into the final change. Adem Yze’s young brigade didn’t look back from there, staving off a last-gasp Adelaide assault to win just their second game of the season.
In the votes
Noah Balta (20 disposals at 90 per cent efficiency, 12 marks, seven intercept possessions), Liam Baker (24 disposals, seven inside-50s), Jayden Short (31 disposals, game-high 704 metres gained). Tim Taranto recorded 26 disposals and 14 contested possessions in his return game. Noah Cumberland needed just four kicks to boot a team-high three goals but let himself down in the third quarter by reversing a shot at goal after an unnecessary act.
Room for improvement
The Tigers were -48 in the disposal count and -45 in uncontested possessions and often looked vulnerable against Adelaide’s transition movement from their defensive half. However, they were able to apply enough pressure to force the Crows into costly turnovers.

:lol They were very good though as noted.
But neither were that good. Not better than Balta or Nank.
-
Nank was crap in the first half but excellent in the second......and fair cop to Shortsteps - was arguably Adelaide's biggest contributor....so no surprise Stevie Nicks gave him full marks...:shh

EACH CLUB’S WINS AND WOES FROM ROUND 13

What they got right
Ramped up pressure and work rate
Richmond came to Adelaide to win.
It was evident form the outset with their pressure and work rate through the roof.
The Tigers were full of spark early, kicking the first three goals which set up the eventual eight-point win.
Adem Yze’s side has been building to this over the last three weeks and it was effort, intent, pressure and work rate which were the hallmarks of their second win of the campaign.
Balta in defence
Noah Balta is best suited as a defender.
He has been tried as a forward at times, but it’s clear to see that his best position is in the backline.
Balta was near impenetrable on Thursday night, taking 12 marks, having seven intercepts and rebounding from defensive 50 on five occasions to go along with his 20 disposals.
Along with fellow premiership defender Nathan Broad he helped hold together the defensive formation, assisting youngster Tom Brown and the inexperienced Ben Miller in having significant contributions.
Unlikely goal sources
The Tigers lost another forward in Mykelti Lefau to an ACL while Dustin Martin didn’t make the trip to Adelaide.
That left them without three of their top four goal kickers heading into the round yet still they managed to conjure a winning score of 12.7.(79).
You could have written any price on the quartet of Noah Cumberland (three goals), Kamdyn McIntosh (two), Rhyan Mansell (two) and Seth Campbell (two) combining for nine goals.
Some of those players can be good for a goal here and there but to come together for a winning score would have been pleasing for Yze.
What they got wrong
Lost another fourth quarter
The Tigers need to find ways to be better in the final term.
Although they were able to manage the game professionally after the Crows kicked the first two goals of the fourth quarter, there were many nervous moments.
Richmond has won just two fourth terms this season and were again beaten late with the Crows kicking 3.3 to 1.1 in the final 30 minutes.
They average just 10.8 points in fourth terms this year, while their opponents average 25.7.
