Win today and we play Williamstown in a Wildcard final.
Lose, but Sandy also loses, then we play Gold Coast away in a Wildcard final.
Lose, but Sandy, wins then it's season over.

Seems we've got Blues fans as commentators in the stream :chuck
"Carlton can throw a spanner in the works for Richmond as they often have done over the years"
:huh3
Ah once in a 2013 EF isn't "often" ::)

First goal to Austin Johnson :gotigers

Out of the centre and Archue May marks and goals :gotigers
Rich 2.0-12
Carl 0.0-0

We get two quick goals in 3 mins by kicking long and direct. Then for some stupid reason we start blindly handballing like mad going around in circles and have coughed up the next two goals :banghead
12 - 13
-
Amazing! We have a height advantage in our forward line and we kick long and direct and get a goal. Not hard Tigers!
Ball comes to ground and Yassine wins the HTB free 10m out :gotigers.
Rich 3.0-18
Carl 2.1-13

Long kick gets over the back, 2 vs 2 and Samson gets his toe to it, but it floats just wide.
19 - 13
-
Maurice causes the F50 turnover with the tackle and finds Collier 40 out directly in front. Misses.
20 - 13
-
We keep it inside 50 from the Carlton kick-in. Loose ball gets to 15 out and Davidson with the snap from the pack goes through :gotigers

Carl 2.1-13

If Combo gets another contract I'll spew up after that. He has zero football IQ. None
-
We were out but Cumberland selfishly tries to beat 2 Blues players on the wing rather than give it off first option and it costs us a goal the other way :banghead.
26 - 19
-
Where was the defence Tiges? Carlton players free everywhere inside our D50. Lucky they miss.
26 - 20
-
Can we drop anymore uncontested marks? :P
-
After playing volleyball 20m out from Carlton's goal :help, Harris rushes the ball from 10m and gets pinged for deliberate. Gifts the Blues a goal and the lead :facepalm :banghead.
26 - 27
-
Langford is a big boy. Pretty explosive but I'd worry he might turn plodder like hopper when he puts on even more mass
-
Quarter time
Richmond 4.2-26
Carlton 4.3-27
Goals: May, Davidson, Johnson.
We have players with the IQ of their shoe size :facepalm. Our stupid need to handball sideways and backwards to no one even when the direct kick to a 1-vs-1 inside 50 is the best option :banghead.
-

he has a nice left foot especially for that size
-
Our best transition of the ball so far by far. Maurice with the free deep in defence. We get it out. Draftee Langford a nice move finds Dow in the centre, then to Cumberland to Wilson who marks 40 out. Goal! :gotigers

Carl 4.3-27

Couragouse fly for the mark at HF by McCarthy. Had his legs taken out in air with the players coming the other way. Maurice to Davidson goes long. May does well to bring it to ground and Fawcett crumbs and goals :gotigers

Better but still stuffed up transition chances when we were out. It's a rare VFL match where we have far more AFL-listed players (10-2) plus a height advantage up forward via May.

Geelong leading Sandy 20 - 15 at QT.
-
McAuliffe hasn't come back out after HT. So he must be injured.
Guiney also out for the rest of the match.
-
May from 60 goes to the top of the square. Comes off hands but Langford can't get it and it's rushed.
We get back from the kick-in but Cumberland gets caught HTB.
We get it back again and Davidson finds Wilson 45 out. Hooks it going for distance.

Dominated that 3rd quarter in general play and should be at least 8 goals in front. But our Richmondy goalkicking, lack of IQ and undiscipline has kept the Blues in it :banghead

Pickett's was bad but we got a second chance. It was our "happy handball" on the wing (Davidson ended up under pressure and handballed blindly into the corridor) that coughed up the second turnover which gifted the goal.

Final Score
Richmond 4.2 9.3 12.9 14.10-94
Carlton 4.3 6.5 10.7 12.13-85
Goals: Cumberland 2, Davidson 2, May 2, Johnson 2, Wilson 2, Yassine 2, Fawcett, Hayes-Brown.
We're into the Wildcard weekend but we won't last long in the finals if we play dumb and waste so many chances like we have over the last month.
- Maurice our best and easily our most skillful by far when it mattered.
- Dow was solid with his 3rd qtr his best when he was winning numerous centre clearances.
- Sonsie got a lot of it but often he was caught on his wrong (left) side and was sloppy or ran himself into trouble trying to get back on his right leg.
- Cumberland was his usual Jeckyl and Hyde self.
- Samson was ok in the ruck but had a mare with his hands when up forward. Couldn't catch a cold.
- Smith was solid without standing out. Lucky that D50 turnover kick in the last didn't cost us a goal.
- OHB's output/ruck influence over the past month (granted he missed a game thru concussion) has coincided with the team's drop off. His only highlight today was the mark and first goal.
- Marlion on managed minutes and played like it.
- Fawcett on managed minutes as well but at least showed glimpses.
- McAuliffe's day ended at half-time. Not sure what the injury is if that's the reason.

VFL Tigers secure Wildcard spot
By Zakariya El-Houli

18 August 2024
Carlton 4.3 6.5 10.7 12.13 (85)
Richmond 4.2 9.3 12.9 14.10 (94)
Goalkickers: May (2), Davidson (2), Cumberland (2), Yassine (2), Johnson (2), Wilson (2), Hayes-Brown, Fawcett
Best: Rioli, Dow, Davidson, Sonsie, Harris, Wilson, Johnson
-------------------------------------------------------
Richmond will feature in the VFL’s Wildcard Round for the second consecutive season after defeating Carlton by nine points at IKON Park on Sunday morning, 12.13 (85) to 14.10 (94).
The nine-point win marks the Tigers’ second over the Blues this season, the first coming in Round 14 at the Swinburne Centre by 36 points.
In a thrilling second-half of football, The Blues overturned a 26-point deficit to establish a lead in the final term, however, two crucial goals from Noah Cumberland and Sam Davidson late in the game restored the lead for the Tigers, and saw off a resilient Carlton outfit.
A highlight came from VFL Tiger Tom McCarthy.
McCarthy’s (14 disposals, eight tackles and three marks) outstanding display of courage set up Liam Fawcett to kick his first of the morning.
A strong five-goal-to-two quarter saw the visitors ahead by 16 points at half time.
Off the back of returning from a nine-week injury in Richmond’s match against Sandringham last week, Archie May was again potent in the forward half on Sunday morning.
May kicked the all-important first goal of the second half and finished with two goals from his five shots at goal to go along with his 12 disposals and nine marks.
Despite winning the quarter, the Blues took advantage of the undisciplined Tigers to stay within touch.
The hosts converted two goals off the back of three 50-metre penalties conceded by the Tigers in the quarter.
AFL-listed Category B ruckman Oliver Hayes-Brown got in on the action with his first goal in the Yellow and Black, however, a game-high 26-point Tiger lead was cut down to just 14 points after the Blues converted on the three-quarter-time siren.
The Blues continued their momentum into the final term, kicking back-to-back goals, and establishing the lead for the first time since the first break.
Crucially for the Tigers, Noah Cumberland and Sam Davidson kicked two crucial goals to regain the lead for their side.
Davidson was outstanding on Sunday morning to finish with two goals from his 20 disposals.
In the end, the Tigers saw off an inspired Carlton outfit that fielded just two AFL-listed players and recorded their tenth win of the season.
Most crucially, the win secured a spot in this year’s VFL finals via the Wildcard Round.
With further details to be confirmed, Richmond will look ahead to their Wildcard challenge against sixth-placed Williamstown next week.
