AFLW Injury Report: Week 3
Get the latest injury update from AFLW High Performance Manager Elizas Morrison ahead of Saturday's clash with Sydney at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.
Eilish Sheerin, quad
"We're hoping Eilish should be available this weekend. She's progressed great, if anything, we've been having to pull her back, which is just the character that she is. So, she's back to full training. We'll test her throughout this week, but hopefully she'll be available for the game (against Sydney)."
Ally Dallaway, hip corky
"Ally's still pretty sore. As you can imagine, she was in a lot of pain during the game, so we'll just give her a couple of days and see how it settles. But, we're hoping that with a couple of days rest it'll clear up nicely and she should be available to play."
Tamara Luke
"We're really happy with where Tamara's at. We spoke to the coaches when she first came on board, and we knew that it would (take) a few weeks just to rebuild her, we don't want to put her out there too early... With the condensed season, that's the real aim, to have her available the whole (season) to help Poppy Kelly (in the ruck). She's available with with some minutes, she has been the last couple of weeks, but it's just when we best use her for the season."
Imogen Brown, ankle
"Imogen had a rolled ankle late last week, she just missed out on playing in the scrimmage. That morning, she just presented with some soreness. So, we're just going to monitor it this week and investigate a little bit further. But, we're hoping that she should bounce back pretty quickly."
Tessa Lavey and Sarah Hosking's returns
"So happy with where they're at, obviously some really great success stories, and I think credit to the medical team in particular, they've done a huge amount of work (for both players' returns)... They've both pulled up really well, which is good."
Shelby Knoll, knee
"Shelby's been doing great. She's done a hell of a lot of her work in the background, working really closely with Caleb, our rehab coach, and then also with the physios as well. She's back in a couple of drills and warm ups and those sorts of things with the group. So, we're hoping to get her back into more and more footy over the next couple of months, which I think is going to be great for her."
Katelyn Cox (knee) and Montana McKinnon (knee)
"It's obviously a little bit earlier in their ACL journey for those two (compared to Knoll). A little bit more day by day for them. So, we're just trying to increase some of their movement, get them in the pool, get them moving around a little bit more... Back in around the club, back in around the girls and working really closely with our medical team. So, tracking well."
Richmond will name its Week 3 line-up on Thursday at 6.20pm.

So how come there is a high performance coach for women?
What is the men’s high performance coach/department doing atm??

So how come there is a high performance coach for women?
What is the men’s high performance coach/department doing atm??
Because it's a different program so it has its own staff just like the VFL program. AFLW have their own medical team, trainers etc
As for the men's staff they'd be on break like the players while the club looks to hire Meehan's replacement

Didn't hurt us on the scoreboard but that was an ordinary quarter by us. Get back to disciplined percentage footy such as keeping your feet in the contest (esp. Greiser), not trying to run around opponents on the mark, and of course the very Richmondy not rushing a behind in the goalsquare :facepalm.

Dominated the last 10 mins of that 3rd qtr but only 1 goal from 13 inside 50s. Lack of composure, poor decision making, as well as not taking the set shot when it's the best percentage option. Copying the men's team inside F50 that qtr :facepalm.

First quarter was arguably the best we've played. Flawless footy at times. Dropped away in the 2nd and lucky it didn't hurt us on the scoreboard. Got on top as the 3rd went along and dominated for the rest of the match. Margin should've been even more if we had kicked straight in the last.
One of the positives that stood out is we didn't rely on Monique having a bag of possies. McKenzie was clear BOG (what a gun!). As WP said, Sheerin makes us such a better side. Katie lead from the front. Dempsey her usual consistent self. Lavey's best game since coming back from injury. Kelly had her best game by far in the ruck (not just hitouts but around the ground stuff too). Seymour very good in that defence/sweeper role. Lynch, Miller and Yassir also good games.
-
They should make Beth Lynch tackling coach for our men. She has the perfect technique and rarely gives away a free when she tackles. She tackles to hurt bur fairly if that makes sense

Tigers skipper shines in Richmond's thumping win over Swans
By AAP with Alison O'Connor
14 Sep 2024
RICHMOND captain Katie Brennan kicked three goals in a stunning first-quarter blitz to help fire her side to a 46-point thumping of Sydney on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers' red-hot pressure and slick ball-use overwhelmed their opponents early as a five-goal opening term laid the platform for the 10.8 (68) to 3.4 (22) victory in Coffs Harbour.
Brennan's game-high tally of three majors was complemented by two each from Maddy Shevlin, Sarah Hosking and Mackenzie Ford.
Ellie McKenzie was best afield with a career-high 23 disposals, with Grace Egan (19 touches) and ruck Poppy Kelly (38 hitouts) also outstanding.
Montana Ham (two goals) was a shining light in attack for the Swans and Laura Gardiner worked tirelessly for a game-high 29 touches.
The Tigers' engine room and forwards were on fire early as they opened up a 30-point lead by quarter-time.
The 5.1 to 0.1 scoreline marked Richmond's second-best first quarter in their AFLW history.
Brennan had three goals from her first three kicks opposed to Alice Mitchell and snared three of the Tigers' seven marks inside-50 in the first-quarter onslaught.
Sydney finally mustered a response when Ham kept her feet in a contest and slotted her first major early in the second quarter.
The midfield battle evened up before half-time, but Richmond maintained its buffer through efficiency in attack and were not seriously threatened after the main break.
The Tigers' total of 68 points was their second-highest in AFLW history.
The result, in the first AFLW meeting between the sides, gave Richmond a 2-1 record, while Sydney (1-2) has now lost consecutive games after winning their season-opener against Collingwood.
Another ACL for luckless Swans
A week after losing co-captain Chloe Molloy to a season-ending ACL injury, the Swans confirmed pre-match defender Alana Woodward had also torn her ACL. Woodward was a late change ahead of the clash against the Tigers, with the club saying the 34-year-old reported knee soreness during Thursday night's training session. She underwent scans that confirmed she had a partial tear of her ACL. Woodward was due to return from a hand injury in the match against Richmond.
Up next
Richmond could notch up its third win of the season when it comes up against winless Carlton at Ikon Park on Thursday night, while Sydney will play cross-town rival Greater Western Sydney on Sunday afternoon at Henson Park.

Last week from memory she only got 3 or so but she was playing a shut down role on Zreika, however this week there was no excuses

Finally got a chance to watch the game.
Excellent performance from the girls. :gotigers :clapping
McKenzie was elite all day. Just oozed class and was very clean and had minimal mistakes. She makes me want to watch the girls game.
Great to see Sheerin back and seeing her play midfield on occasion.
Brennan was an absolute beast up forward and should've kicked more than 3 goals.
Mon Conti was heavily tagged but still impacted with her class and poise. She was a tackling machine all day.
Hosking and Mckelland were effective keeping the ball up forward.
"Merv Keane" Graham was much improved today. Thought Lynch was very good in defence. And great to see Gabby Seymour get more involved and exert her energy and influence. .
Egan was better and made less mistakes and was much more effective than the last two matches.
Greiser was still terrible I thought. Except for one play where she used her size and bulk to get front position and took an easy mark. Why she doesn't do this every contest is beyond my comprehension. Besides the minor wins she did have she was easily bumped off the ball, her opponent got better position and her kicking for goal is sub standard.
Lastly a very Special mention to my whipping girl Poppy Kelly who played an excellent game all round. She dominated ruck taps and even got the odd clearance herself. Her around the ground marking was very good. I hope to see this consistently all year and if she plays to this level you'll never hear me say a negative word about her again.
-
Richmond coach Ryan Ferguson was extremely pleased with the Tigers five unanswered goals in the first quarter.
“I really like getting out of the blocks early, you’re not going to always put that many goals on an opposition but when you get the chance you need to be able to do that,” Ferguson said.
“But it was more just setting the tone in the way that we played, our hunt of the ball, our pressure was immense early so we were winning the contested ball but they had no time and space and that just allowed us to get territory dominance and then some composure with our disposal allowed us to get some scoreboard pressure which was huge.”
