For me its Jagga all the way - will be a 200 gamer
Number 1 pick should be about certainty not risk in my opinion.
-
Think I want Langford or Smillie.
Can't help it.
Unless they're a Neale or Serong etc I'm much less interested in the shorties.
Would prefer a Cripps/Bont size.
-
Haha Slowford - yeah let's finally get rid of Graham only to use pick 1 on a taller version of him.... :help
Smillie's too much of a boom or bust - won't be a Bont or Cripps IMO but could be anything from another Tom Green to another Ely Smith.... and we'll be getting the real Tom Green in a few years anyway... :shh
FOS or Lalor are the correct answers. :shh :shh

How slow is he?
How do his combine results stack up?
-
Won't know until he does it....but his lack of speed & agilty have been noted by many others not just me..disposal is hit & miss too (like Cotchin -either very good or horrid) and doesn't look one touch..he looks about half a yard quicker than Graham & is obviously much taller - some might argue that if Graham was half a yard quicker & taller he'd be a very good player, which Langford will be (both he & Graham are Larke Medalists btw)- just not Top 5 good IMO....blokes like him & Smillie you'd take in a heart beat with our 4th pick - which will likely still be in the teens but not our first 3 which will likely be top 10....if our midfield wasn't already so slow then maybe you would take him higher....I also like Reid -joint Larke Medalist with Langford- who has elite disposal and decision making and isn't quick either (and somewhat shorter than Langford)but I'd take him with our 3rd or 4th pick...reminds me a bit of Eroll Gulden... :shh

Trust in Jagga....:shh
-
The combine will lock in our selections.
Jagga will test well but his interview will get him over the line for Pick 1. Next Captain.
-
Smith will win a lot of individual awards - which will be nice for him at least.... :shh
-
Think Jagga is a safe bet and will be a nice footballer.
When we revisit this draft in 10 years time and he’s still in the top 5 - that’s a win .
I have heard opinions that Finn O Sullivan has greater upside- hopefully we can get both
-
As with most drafts it’s near impossible to know. For me it’s between jagga and fos. Langford is a late bloomer who could develop into a really damaging player, much the same for Lalor. Any of those 4 could win brownlows imo.
Still have Draper, Ashcroft, Smillie ( who seems to have fallen out of favour for many) and Reid too.
-
Think they’ll go Jagga as the safe bet at 1. Even if he doesn’t end up being the best player of the draft, which pick 1s very rarely end up being, he seems to have all the makings of a very very good 200+ gamer (injuries permitting).
Just don’t think they’ll risk pick 1 on someone they are hoping can reach a higher ceiling. We’ll have another 3-5 first round picks for them to make riskier selections.
-
Jagga is a Darcy Parish clone. Heaps of possessions but not effective. FOS every day of the week and then some. The player most likely to be a match winner of all the projected early picks

Bit of a stupidity trend here what's this meant to mean? Along with Slowford, have to call out some dumb comments Dio.

Agree. Get pick 3 and take FOS, Draper whoever is available.

Jagga will be better than parish imo, but also I think parish could’ve been a star had he been drafted to a better club.
Jagga is closer to daicos than parish imo.

Really like the two big mids Lalor and Smillie nothing new there. Sid Draper and FOS seem like the best two of the smaller mids.Draper i like a hell of a lot as well.
Assuming we get pick 6 from GCS then im likely going with the Dusty type in Lalor at 1 and hope like hell Draper is there at 6. I wish we had pick 4 that would solve the problem.
If it seems a good chance that Smillie or Lalor are there at 6 then id go the other way and take one of Draper or Fos at 1.
For me it is about judging who is most likely to be there at six a big mid or a small mid.

lol, doesn’t anyone think we need a key forward or three :banghead

Most of the best talent at the top end of this draft appears to be midfielders but I'd be surprised if we don't grab one or two at some point - it's allegedly a deep draft....especially when the likes of O'Farrell & Gerryn are rated in the 30-50 range and the likes of Nichols even beyond that...I know we like Faull & Armstrong but I'd take Tauru before either...reckon they'll all be gone by the time we're finished with our primary midfield targets though ..latest word is that Tauru is rocketing up the charts with a bullet and Norf are even considering taking him with pick 2... :shh

True , but we have a gaping hole and I’d be after the best key forward, trying to pick up good ones late is a recipe for average at best , If Ofarrell gets to the 20’s 30’s I’d grab him too , very good lock down Key back man , we sure have a lot of holes in our list.

Only tall likely to go top 10 is a kpd. There will be plenty of opportunity to take tall forwards after that point with the picks we are expected to have.

Gone off Ough - been very ordinary the CTL Granny... Hannaford looks a handy player... bit of an annoying little shyte who plays for and wins frees like Ginnivan - which is good when they're on your side... :shh
-
Also absolutely have to bid on Ashcroft at pick 1 and make Bears pay- same goes for Marshall if we get the chance.... :shh

Floyd Burmeister another one - 199cm fwd/ruck - was good in the GF today in a losing side.... :shh

We either need to bid on Ashcroft or have a one sided wink wink trade completed with the Lions
-
Sydney doing fine with Amartey (rookie), Logan #4 and McLean PS Supp.
Think the clear learning here is that you just have to keep drafting talls every year, probably at least 1-2 forwards and 1-2 defenders.
-
Agreed Andyyyy and hit up free agency
-
Have mentioned it several times. We actually have very good numbers when it comes to key defenders and key forwards.
But having numbers and have the role covered are two different things.
With all things being equal we have our kpd's in place and they are damn good one's in Balta and Gibcus.
Its the lack of quality in the back up kpd's that is our problem. While it is not an urgent problem and does not need fixing this year with such a strong crop of mids to be had, a quality pick in coming years is needed imo.
Where we take players is relevant, Its indicative of quality. Saying that i acknowledge it is not uncommon to find good ones with later picks. Later picks tends to be a high turnover way to do it though.
Our kpd's and where they were originally taken. I think it does reflect the use of earlier picks to get quality and reflects what you get mostly with later picks.
Gibcus #9, Balta #25, Miller #63, Young (r), Blight (r) msd. The goal is to replace one of the latter three with a quality pick or player. Just dont think we need to do it this year. If a real goodun is there and we rate him so be it. We will find out about Blight and we have some reasonable cover if the top 2 get hurt so its not urgent.
Key forward well that is another matter.
Lynch #11 and 32 yrs. Fawcett #43 19yo. Koschitzke #52 and a stop gap, Lefau (r) ssp 26 yr old coming off a second knee. Gray (r) msd 21yo.
In all this at both ends we have a third tall type in Bauer another rookie msd pick.
Clearly we do not have Lynch's replacement and should have had him there three years ago developing. We also have not replaced Riewoldt looking for similar quality. While we do have good numbers, after 32 yr old Lynch we just do not have the quality.
I think we must target a kpf with one of the picks we will likely get in the 12 thru 17 range. If another rated one falls to our picks in the twenties then take one there as well.
We will have about 8 ND picks and all of them could be inside the top 30. Something like 1, 6, 9, 12, 13, 17, 20, 21, 29.
Optimistic maybe.
We are losing two quality players in Bolton and Rioli and imo we should be replacing them both with quality picks for players who play their roles.
Rioli well Travaglia at 9 there's a replacement for ya. Leaving us two options for the other hbf in Smith and maybe Trezise. could play Banks and Brown there as well.
Bolton well do we want more a fwd or more of a mid?. One who would fit the bill would be Hotten at around pick 17. Pick 12 goes on Armstrong or the best Kpf available. 1 and 6 goes on the two best mids available. It still leaves us with good picks and options.
Pickett is gone and McIntosh won't be too far behind him so lets target a quality wingman who offers more than both.
The opportunity is there to not only target best available but its so even on talent serious list needs as well.
