Late change for the Tigers
Sarah Hosking out ( managed), makes sense after her hammy issues pre seaspn
Stella Reid comes in, :huh3, nor sure about that
I thought we were a sneaky chance but with those 3 outs, nil confidence now
-
Massive outs. However, it's a wet day in Tassie, so hopefully we play K.I.S.S. footy and turn it into a territory battle to make the most of the conditions.
-
We're kicking into the breeze in the first.
Greiser with the first score. A point.
-
Can someone tell Poppy Kelly that it's probably a good idea she try and mark the ball on her chest today. :help
-
Well done girls. Just get it forward.
Conti long from HB. Sheerin kicks it off the ground inside F50. Yassir 1-2 with Greiser and Emily kicks the goal :gotigers.
Rich 1.1-7
Norf 0.0-0

Don't stuff around the handballs. Just get it forward!
-
Great work by Gabby just tough as nails.
-
Stop bloody handballing in the wet when you can kick it instead :banghead.
-
Great work by Gabby just tough as nails.
Did you notice the N0rt player did not have eyes for the ball?
-
Quarter time
Richmond 1.1-7
North Melb. 0.2-2
Goals: Yassir
Did well to keep Norf goal-less against the breeze. Just need to cut out the needless handballs as the ball is like a cake of soap. Just go long and direct and win the territory battle.
-
Excellent work by the girls to keep it simple in this weather.
Sheerin is an absolute beast out there. She's best on ground by a mile.
Conti is all class.
Seymour has been tough in defence. In fact all the girls down there have been very solid.
Greiser has done some good things early she just needs to settle before she kicks the ball.
Bacon has had some early touches which is great to see.
I think Luke is going to be more valuable than Poppy Kelly considering Luke can actually mark and kick the footy Luke has three kicks and one mark.
It's looking good for us.
:gotigers

Don't freaking handball backwards :facepalm.
-
It looks like these conditions are made for Dempsey.
-
Poor Stella Reid, she not quick at the best of times, in perfect conditions. In these conditions she's like a tractor doing a lap at Bathurst against a V8
-
Sheerin pushed in the back 50 out. Goes long. Off hands and rushed.
8 - 2
-
Sheerin is a gun. Lavey has been pretty good so far.
-
Why are we going wide towards the boundary with the breeze? :huh3
-
Poor Stella Reid, she not quick at the best of times, in perfect conditions. In these conditions she's like a tractor doing a lap at Bathurst against a V8
Haven’t watched a minute of the AFLW all year so can’t comment
But if she is that slow she shouldn’t get a game should she ?
-
You play dumb footy and give up territory and you get what you deserved. Seriously, dumb! :banghead

Why are we going wide towards the boundary with the breeze? :huh3
Great point. Our good ball users aren't thinking and McKenzie has been out of the play so far so our ball use inside 50 hasn't been good especially this quarter.
It's not really smart footy this quarter at all.
-
Libby Graham doing her weekly stupid play that turns the ball over and Charley Ryan gave away a really stupid free
-
Half-time
Richmond 1.1 1.3-9
North Melb. 0.2 1.2-8

Just wasted the breeze :banghead. That was just a dumb quarter. Why did we continually go wide towards the boundary? Why are we trying to link up by hand in the wet? It's clearly instructed so that's on the coach. Just continually gifted Norf the ball and territory :banghead.

Not sure bringing in Poppy Kelly was a great idea considering the weather conditions either.
Luke has been doing just fine and can take a grab in these conditions. And we have plenty who can take the odd ruck contest around the ground.

Reid plays like doesn't like contact or tackling. There were a couple of times where she was actually first to the ball, but she just gave it up too easily as soon as there's the slightest contact from an opponent. She needs to be harder at the footy and more desperate in the contest if she wants to play at this level.

Get your point but with no Brennan this game, I think the plan is to leave McCelland up forward rather using her to give a chop out on the ruck.

Kick the ball

This is on the coach. He won't change his gameplan to reflect the conditions.
-
Don't sook about it Bec, dumb footy bt the entire team
Here's a tip Tigers do not under an circumstance go to Reid
-
You can't expect to continually gift the opposition forward half territory in the wet due to your own stupidity and expect to win. This is so frustrating to watch.
-
Can't see us coming back from here.
No Brennan is massive. Seymour is captain today and she's been average in that qtr
-
Terrible quarter by the girls except Conti was able to carve it up on occasion but no one able to finish all her great work.
I'd like to see McKenzie step up and exert her influence on the game. She been pretty quiet and hasn't really been able to play her game at all.
-
3/4 time
Richmond 1.1 1.3 1.3-9
North Melb. 0.2 1.2 2.6-18
Goals: Yassir
Let's see how stubborn our coach is. If we don't change the way we are playing and start just getting the ball forward with long kicks, soccer kicks or anyhow then a loss will be on him. No more handballs or trying to pick the ball up under pressure. Win the contests and K.I.S.S.

What exactly are the umps sucking

Pathetic defence

Norf have outsmarted us Ch 7 commentators. They are playing wet weather footy why our stubborn coach has us trying to play his dry weather over-possessive gamestyle :banghead.

Great goal. :gotigers

Amazing! A quick long direct kick inside 50 by Lavey and we get a shot and a goal to Greiser. Who would've thought that would work in the wet!

Summed us up today. Went wide to the boundary and stuffed it up. Clueless footy!

FMD the umps are stuffen cheats

That should have been a free to McKenzie

23 to 13 free kicks. Guess who has more? :help

Conti is an absolute gun.
Sheerin was very good especially in the first half.
Dempsey was solid all game and stood out in the conditions. I thought Grieser did some good things in the conditions also with limited opportunities.
I thought Poppy Kelly did some good things especially in the third quarter after a terrible first half.
Other than that not a great day for the girls. Terrible skills and undisciplined football doesn't win you games.
Very disappointed in McKenzie especially considering her ability she was well held and didn't have any influence on the game at all.
Not a great day by the coaches either and the team was pretty terrible after a promising first quarter and we supposedly play better in the wet. :help
-
lmao ..how is this still a thing? :joker

The Kangaroos cement their place at the top of the ladder with a hard-fought win in the wet in Launceston. It was the Kangaroos' top-liners that wrestled control of the match towards the team - after trailing contested possessions at quarter-time, the Kangaroos won the contested possession count by 23 at full time, thanks to 45 between Jasmine Garner, Mia King and Ash Riddell.
The Tigers will lose no admirers after bringing the challenge right to the top-of-the-ladder Kangaroos. Ultimately, they too often were unable to make the most of their forays forward, registering just one goal from their forward-half ball-movement chains - the source the Kangaroos managed to score all three of their goals from.

----------------------------------------------------------
FLAG favourite North Melbourne has overcome atrocious conditions to extend its best-ever start to an AFLW season with a 12-point win over plucky Richmond.
The Kangaroos' lowest score of the year so far was enough to see them home in a 3.9 (27) to 2.3 (15) victory in Launceston on Sunday.
The result left Darren Crocker's side unbeaten on top of the ladder with five wins and a draw after six matches, albeit with other sides having only played four or five games due to the competition's compressed fixture.
But it came at a cost when captain Emma Kearney sustained a hamstring injury early in the first quarter.
The long-time North skipper appeared in good spirits when chatting with teammates at the breaks.
However, the Kangaroos will sweat on the results of scans on Kearney's injured right hamstring heading into the second half of a short season.
Jasmine Garner (24 disposals, one goal), Mia King (22 touches) and Ash Riddell (22) were all influential for North as they gradually ground down their opponents.
Garner was involved in an entertaining duel with Eilish Sheerin (17 disposals, six clearances) and kicked the Kangaroos' sealer late in the final term.
Richmond star Monique Conti (32 disposals, seven clearances) was on another level with her cleanliness and precision with the ball, regularly making a mockery of the wet and windy conditions.
The Tigers, who were without captain Katie Brennan and winger Maddie Shevlin because of ankle injuries, led for most of the first half after Emelia Yassir pounced to give them the first goal into a stiff breeze in the opening term.
North had to wait until there was one minute left in the first half to post their first major when Alice O'Loughlin converted a free kick.
O'Loughlin's goal briefly tied the scores but Richmond led by one point at the main break.
The Kangaroos lifted in the second half, when a series of behinds and Bella Eddey's neat finish from the pocket gave them a nine-point advantage at the final change.
Caitlin Greiser gave Richmond a sniff when she converted a free kick and cut the margin back to five points with more than seven minutes left to play.
But Garner, who missed a set shot earlier in the last quarter, made the most of her next opportunity to give North breathing space again and they hung on.
Richmond (4-2) hold their spot in the top eight despite their first defeat since round one.
North host the Western Bulldogs in round six, while the Tigers will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Collingwood.

Since when does the number of goals determine the spectacle of a sport?! That's the sort of crap we get from the likes of media clowns like Robbo. Funny how the biggest and most popular sport in the world has low scoring. The game against Norf was a highly contested wet weather footy match [not that our dopey coach realised this either :facepalm ] which was close on the scoreboard all day. But yeah, as a spectacle for the neutral it's a shame it wasn't more like "*check notes*" a one-sided game in perfect conditions that was over before half-time or as enjoyable as watching a team across a whole season that could only win two games out of 23 :facepalm.
Anyway, if you don't like AFLW then that's your prerogative. But it's getting really boring after every game now we get the few same olds having to repeatedly tell the world they hate it. We heard you the first time. If don't like it, then don't watch it and don't bother posting in the AFLW threads.
-
You don’t help your cause for posters not commenting on threads when R6 in the AFLW is being compared to the AFL GF.
It’s an absolutely ridiculous comparison and Dio could have gone far harder
Just my opinion. Which I thought forums were for.

It's not just round 6 ::). The same small few repeatedly sook about the whole AFLW competition being "a joke" [that was the quote that I replied to]. The comparison was a dig at that ridiculous cheapshot from the sidelines. Just because you don't like AFLW or any sporting comp for that matter doesn't make it a joke. The sellout crowd today at Punt Rd despite the wet weather shows the couple of haters on here are the minority.

I’m a hater of the quality of the product
I’m not in the minority
Woman’s footy will improve (it already has). I have two daughters and love the fact I could kick a footy with the girls .. I went to all their games (sometimes travelling 4hrs to do so)
As a side note - What constitutes a sellout at Punt Rd?
Move the game to the MCG and see how the crowd goes
I’d suggest the biggest non GF crowd in the AFLW this year will be smaller than the smallest AFL crowd ..
The product has a LONG way to go to get anywhere near NRLW as a spectacle
