Genuine chance but Lynch's absence will hurt. >:(
-
After last nights performance you’d expect Port to come out breathing fire next week
It will be fascinating to see how the youngsters handle this

Port Adelaide v Richmond Preview
Andrew Slevison
SEN
20 March 2025
The critics have been out in force in the wake of Port’s 91-point drubbing at the hands of Collingwood last Saturday night. Ken Hinkley has been at the forefront of that criticism given the narrative of the Josh Carr succession plan.
Captain Connor Rozee (35 disposals, nine inside 50s) and Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines (34 disposals, 10 clearances) can hold their heads high, as can veteran Travis Boak who breaks Russell Ebert’s full club record, but there were few others.
Against Richmond on Saturday, Hinkley must instil an us-against-them mentality which has served him so well in the past.
The Tigers were the talk of the town after a stirring comeback over arch rivals Carlton last Thursday night.
Adem Yze’s aura was on show as he masterminded an against-the-odds 13-point triumph, with his side recovering from a deficit of 41 points. No.1 draft pick Sam Lalor starred on debut, sparking the young and exuberant Tiger cubs. He picked up the Rising Star nomination for his efforts.
This week they’ll have to tackle a wounded Port in hostile territory without the ‘godfather’ of the forward line, Tom Lynch, who is suspended.
The blowtorch has been placed on the Power all week in the lead-up. Hinkley’s desire to coach on has been questioned, and that would hurt his pride. You’d imagine they will come out breathing fire in front of their faithful.
There was little confidence in the Tigers last week, and although they surprised many, it’s difficult to see them repeating those efforts. Port on the bounce-back at home to make it five on the trot against the Tigers.
Prediction: Port Adelaide by 27 points.

Expecting them to come out breathing fire and get up for Boak who tends to smash us.
But you never know...this side is going to be up and down I think. Hope they're up and about tomorrow.
-
I think a lot of our losses will be due to lack of ball pressure through the midfield and when it’s in our fwd50. We saw that in the first half against Carlton, those repeat entries got us. When we can slow down the movement of the opposition, I think our defence can stand up though. Not confident with blight/miller one out, but with rushed kicks or dump kicks in blight can act as a great intercept mark and allows vlastuin, broad and now trainor to come in to the contest as well
-
Just about to head off to the airport
Result is irrelevant to me, just want to see the same effort and intensity as last week
-
Hope we have a good showing but kids will be up and down a lot.
-
Port are the definition of down hill skiers. At home I expect them to smash us.
-
NO LATE CHANGES
SUBSTITUTES
Port Adelaide: Christian Moraes
Richmond: Kaleb Smith

From Barrett's Sliding Doors column:
IF ...
it was Mission Impossible last weekend ...
THEN ...
it’s Mission Impossible II on Saturday against Port Adelaide. Love how they’ve selected another first-gamer, Liam Fawcett. And the bookies are saying a win in the sequel wouldn’t be as far-fetched as the original.

-
Result is irrelevant to me, just want to see the same effort and intensity as last week
Agree WP. Same here.
-
Hopper held and no free to start right off ::).
-
BS HTB decision. That was a handpass ::). Charity goal for Port.
-
Slack defending so far. Not working hard enough off the ball.
-
Pathetic start. Their waltzing it inside 50
-
And a 2nd 50 meter penalty.
We're asleep
-
Dumb Miller. Mind you that was a dive.
Falling down on transition. Turning the ball over at HF and they are hitting us on the counter.
-
Campbell :gotigers
Not pretty but we'll take it.
Rich 1.0-6
Port 3.2-20
-
Just getting killed at ground level after the contest.
Bauer had to keep his feet at the centrebounce.
-
Why aren't we tagging Rozee?
-
Great work by Campbell. Harry you should have kicked that.
7 - 27
-
There's no options. You look up the ground and no one is moving or leading up.
-
Thought Armstrong could kick.
Missed an absolute sitter.
-
Go for goal Mansell. That was a waste.
-
Taranto looks spaced out on acid.
-
We are just gifting them goals. We can't find a target to exit from D50.
-
Lalor doesn't have a back to push apparently ::).
-
Blight ran past about three teammates just ballwatching. He can't do it on his own.
'Effort' has been the opposite of last week.
-
The problem with a win is that it gives you hope as a supporter.
-
The boys have been pretty embarrassing so far, eroding some good will from last week already
-
We’re making them look like they’ve got 30 players out there. Extras in the forward line, around the ball, everywhere.
-
Cheap shot by Horne-Francis :thumbsdown.
-
Quarter time
Richmond 1.3-9
Port Adel. 6.6-42
Goal: Campbell.
Got a bath that quarter. Can't compete let alone win without workrate across the park from the whole team.
-

If our lack of effort continues we will lose by 100 plus today. Hopefully they can lift, starts with Taranto. He's been horrible so far
-
Nothings changed. Port players running loose everywhere.
-
Too easy.
When we actually do get our hands on the pill we fumble anyway and gift the ball away.
-
Keep your feet. That's twice in the last 5 mins that Ross has gone to ground in the contest.
-
Borderline unwatchable but will hang in until half time.
-
It’s one thing to lose, but our leaders have been absolutely horrible
-
Great goal from Powell Pepper but 3-4 fumbles and poor handballs lead to it.
-
There is zero intent today. Just pure ball watching and spectating.
-
Getting badly beaten in middle
-
It’s one thing to lose, but our leaders have been absolutely horrible
Totally agree, 💯. Hopper Taranto been poo.
-
There’s no reason we can’t win stoppages with nank Taranto and hopper, unless of course we over invested in Taranto and hopper which is becoming more obvious by the day
-
Why do we let Alir look like an absolute superstar every time we play them. Tell Fawcett to just play on him FFS.
-
Nice! Fawcett nails his first goal for the Tigers from beyond 50 :gotigers
Rich 2.5-17
Port 9.10-65
-
Great goal.
-
Dow actually hit a target from traffic :o.
Bauer goal :gotigers
Rich 3.5-23
Port 9.10-64
Comeback on ;D
-
Can't fumble in the corridor of the D50.
-
I would get Hopper & Taranto out of the middle. Try someone else
-
I would get Hopper & Taranto out of the middle. Try someone else
Agreed, I feel bad for yze having to rely on these guys
-
Small comeback mounted but snuffed out pretty easily. Taranto needs a rocket
-
I'm fact, id sub Taranto out.
-
Green had to be stronger then at HF. Too easily pushed off the ball and Port were away.
-
Smith subbed on for Banks (concussed).
-
I think a lot of our losses will be due to lack of ball pressure through the midfield and when it’s in our fwd50. We saw that in the first half against Carlton, those repeat entries got us. No pressure from our mids at all. I’ll say all year, I don’t care if we lose as long as we give good effort. Our leaders and experienced mids have been deplorable. Uninspiring. I hope our young kids don’t look to these guys for inspiration
-
Defense is getting murdered by the lack of midfield pressure.
-
That was our best movement from a kick-in by miles. Actually was able to maintain possession.
Fawcett showing glimpses.
Bauer butchers the set shot though and hits the behind post.
-
Senior players should have better awareness. Poor by Kmac. Gifted Port another goal.
-
That last play from McIntosh sums up today and the senior players. No awarenesses.
I'm really peeed off with Lynch, he needed to be out there today.
Anyway, will be torn all season about winning, being competitive and getting the number one pick.
-
Senior players should have better awareness. Poor by Kmac. Gifted Port another goal.
Think you should cut KMac some slack there, clearly absolutely no talk from his teammate less that 2 metres away
-
Some senior players should be embarrassed by their "efforts" so far.
-
Half-time
Richmond 1.3 3.6-24
Port Adel. 6.6 13.11-89
Goal: Campbell, Fawcett, Bauer.
Hard to find any positives aside from Fawcett doing a couple of nice things that quarter.
Nank is trying he's not meant to be ground level player as well because our mids around him have been lazy.
Can't blame the backline when the ball is coming into our D50 regularly under zero pressure.
-
Some senior players should be embarrassed by their "efforts" so far.
Worst game I have ever seen from Taranto and that includes his time at the Giants.
Ross having one of his worse games as well.
-
Just no work rate or accountability from mids, many of which are senior players.

-
Port have kicked 8.8-56 from stoppages alone which is a record to half-time :help
-
That contest then summed up Taranto and Ross' game. The former has fumbled the loose ball and coughed it while the latter has gone to ground too easily.
-
Another goal off our turnovers at HF.
We've made Jones today look like Houli off HB.
-
Ross has not coped with a tag
Very frustrated
-
Hello mistackle after mistackle.
The lack of effort is the most disappointing thing from today. The cubs may have fallen into the trap after last week's win but the senior players should know better.
-
Ross has not coped with a tag
Very frustrated
Perhaps he could start will not losing his feet so easily in the contest. Been horrible today.
-
Collingwood’s free kick count from last night will out score us.
-
Again just then Ross went to ground in the contest and coughed it up.
-
A few of our cubs are long kicks. Lalor goal.
Rich 4.7-31
Port 16.13-109
-
Well done Blight now in the ruck. Wins the HTB free 30m out.
He also kicks his first goal as a Tiger :clapping
Rich 5.7-37
Port 16.13-109
-
That's just a lazy dump nothing nowhere kick by Hopper in the middle.
We gift Port another goal off a turnover.
-
Not watched a moment because I have family over.
What's the short answer why we're getting spanked so hard?
-
Kmac goal.
Rich 6.8-44
Port 17.13-115
-
Not watched a moment because I have family over.
What's the short answer why we're getting spanked so hard?
Poor effort/workrate opposite of last week. Midfield smashed.
-
Summed us up today. One Tiger chasing in the FP while everyone else was watching :facepalm.
-
There's no defensive cohesion. Port players have been able to escape the tackle, run past 3 Tigers and then they are away.
-
I've never seen TT play a worse game, doesn't look interested.
-
And yet another goal off our turnover.
You run towards the opponent before dishing the handball to a teammate in space. Not telegraph the pass as your teammate just gets near that same opponent :facepalm.
-
I've never seen TT play a worse game, doesn't look interested.
Yep. He'll deserve the criticism after today's poor effort.
Mind you we'll have to put up with a week of Cornes going on and on about it :sleep.
-
Too cute Seth. Waited too long. Once you were clear of Aliir it was an easy shot on the run.
-
We look very easy to play against this week.
-
3/4 time
Richmond 1.3 3.6 6.9-45
Port Adel. 6.6 13.11 19.13-127
Goal: Campbell, Fawcett, Bauer, Lalor, McIntosh, Blight.
Got to at least run out the last quarter.
-
Ross has not coped with a tag
Very frustrated
Perhaps he could start will not losing his feet so easily in the contest. Been horrible today.
Oh agree, worst game ever. But just pointing out his inability to cope with a tag
-
Not watched a moment because I have family over.
What's the short answer why we're getting spanked so hard?
Poor effort/workrate opposite of last week. Midfield smashed.
I have no issue with the cubs. Effort is definitely there
Senior blokes outside of Broad it's not there
-
3/4 time
Got to at least run out the last quarter.
Which will be interpreted as the opposite putting the cue in the rack if it happens.
-

Lol were winning the free kick count for once. Oh the irony.
-
Another simple target missed and Port goal from the turnover. Rinse and repeat.
-
The number of times we've gone so easily to ground in the contest has been pathetic :banghead.
-
Kaleb Smith will be lucky to hold his place. Sonsie a much more versatile option and TBH a better player.
-
Mansell's efforts can't questioned. Think Nank has tried his best. Very disappointed with Taranto.⁹
-
Armstrong also kicks his first ever goal :clapping
Rich 7.13-55
Port 20.14-134
-
Use both hands Sam going for the mark.
Mind you there was lack of talk as his teammate was behind him.
-
Armstrong putting in a late cameo. Kicks his 2nd.
Rich 8.13-61
Port 20.14-134
-
Have we ever fumbled the ball so much? Ross fumbles, goal.
-
Goal to Seth
Rich 9.13-67
Port 21.14-140
-
Good news is we’ve certainly got some young talks with some real athletic traits. Fawcett looks like he’ll be serviceable, Bauer shows flashes. Plenty of talent on the sidelines.
Hit the draft next year with high quality mids
-
When Prestia returns play TT forward. Permanently
-
Didn’t lose by 100 :thumbsup
-
Tuned in late.
Honestly thought the kids looked knackered and as a whole the team was just out muscled by a more mature and clinical side.
Plenty to like about Armstrong, Blight, Fawcett etc.
These games will happen.
-
Big plus not losing by 100. Port always going to come back hard. With such an inexperienced team could have been far worse
-
Final Score
Richmond 1.3 3.6 6.9 9.14-68
Port Adel. 6.6 13.11 19.13 21.14-140
Goal: Armstrong 2, Campbell 2, Fawcett, Bauer, Lalor, McIntosh, Blight.
A reality check. Don't bring the effort and you end up 10 goals down at HT. Fought it out at least as it could have easily turned into a 100+ point loss.
-
Hopper ? mccauliffe should be in , drop hopper
-
Plenty worse than Hopper
He’ll be the permanent whipping boy
-
There was nothing wrong with the effort of cubs, absolutely nothing. Not sure what people are expecting? Our season is going to be like this. Good weeks, poor weeks and the odd great week.
Said it earlier our senior players let us down.
Lots of greenshoots today. I walked out of the ground enthused by the cubs. They didn't drop their heads, made mistakes but buttered up and tried to make amends. I'll take that every week over non effort
-
Port played this game on their terms and we had no answers. They bullied us at the contest and they had players in miles of space all day across all lines. Defence never had a chance.
On the flip side, when we got hands on it in tight, we were swamped and couldn’t spread. So many short handballs to players already under pressure.
Hopefully lots to learn for the youngsters.
When Balta comes back, both he and Blight can give Nank a decent break in the ruck.
-
The Tigers recorded 121-114 contested possessions and 39-36 clearances including 18-10 centre bounce clearances, but just 27-32 effective clearances. They recorded just 173-352 uncontested possessions and 64-127 uncontested marks.
Port Adelaide recorded a disposal differential of positive 180 today, the highest disposal differential on record. They also recorded a pressure factor of 182 to 163 and scored 8.4 to 1.3 from shots on the run. They scored 8.2 to 0.3 from defensive midfield and 12.4 to 4.8 from intercept chains.

Dow needs to be Capuano'd asap - how much more stuffing evidence do they need? :banghead
I'd say trade Taranto & Hopper too but who the stuff would want them? :shh

Everyone can see that our senior players let us down. When you rely on Taranto and hopper, you’re going to be in trouble
-
It’s trendy to bag the poo out of Hopper
If he holds up, he will be the least of our problems
-
It’s trendy to bag the poo out of Hopper
If he holds up, he will be the least of our problems
It's "trendy" because he's playing like utter shyte and is the poster boy for our cronic lack of pace.

And we recruited these 2 guys to be inside beasts. Taranto showed great form in his first year as a tiger, not much since. Hopper has never showed anything as a tiger. So these 2 guys that we are relying on to effectively make us competitive around stoppages are both failing. It’s gonna be a tough road
-
A fit Prestia will help both Taranto and Hopper. But Ross and Dow aren’t AFL standard mids so just have to wear it until Smillie, Hotton and Lalor are ready for that role.
Thought Sonsie was stiff to get dropped on the back of being the sub week 1.
With Rioli gone, we’ve lost all our run and attackoff half back. Aside from Short we have zero small defenders (and Short is hardly as defender). If, like today, when our mids don’t run hard to defend we have no-one to mop up when the ball hits the ground.
-
Lmao Ross from BOG to "not AFL standard" within a week. :shh
-
Happy with the kids all showed something , the big worry how many senior players went missing and killed us with brain fades that's not acceptable and it's not on coaches either.

Same old story as last year

Hopper was our biggest disposal getter with 24 but our 12th ranked player… crazy.
Watched a replay of the 3rd quarter this morning, one centre bounce stands out where he is under no pressure and tried to handball, misses the ball and throws it straight to a port player. Heaps of other horrible plays. I’m so sick of watching him stink it up… not a great leader for our young guys. I’d be paying a team to take him and trying to get a better mid in who can actually set good examples for our kids. McRae would’ve been so much more effective
-
Had a free pass after the Blues win, and sorta played like it.
No issues from the kids, loved Trainor aggression. Armstrong signs. Lalor kept cracking in. Just play the kids. McAullife over Dow, Kmac and even Hopper if I'm honest.
-
Hopper well what did you expect? He offers nothing and we should have dumped his sorry arse a long time ago.
Now we have no chance as no one will offer anything reasonable for him.
we are stuck with him unforunately.
-
Positives …
* looked for all money like it was going to be a 100 point belting - Richmond won the last quarter.
* Armstrong gets his first 2 goals.
* Blight pitch hitting in the ruck
* Fawcett did a few nice things
* Another game into the kids .
Negatives….
* Another really poor start - game over at halftime.
* TT and Hopper just look like they’re collecting pay cheques.
* gifting opposition easy goals with 50 m penalties.
* Mansell injury
* Senior players were embarrassed by the endeavour of the kids .
* looked like witches hats again .
-
Floss, Miller and Trainor fined $1000 each by the MRP for that melee.

Richmond
King: Outgunned, out-hunted and got smacked. A week is a long time in footy.
Cornes: a side still mentally stuck in the MCG change rooms from Round 1 — where they were too busy soaking up Gatorade showers and sooking about someone who questioned the coach's aura.

AFL Report Card: Round 2
Catherine Healey, Jack Jovanovski and Ben Cotton
Foxsports
24 March 2025
RICHMOND
Nine days after notching one of its best home-and-away wins in recent memory, the Tigers dished up a stinker against a fuelled Port Adelaide outfit. Adem Yze’s side was blitzed at stoppage from the get-go, outhunted by their hungrier counterparts. The absence of key focal point Tom Lynch was understandably costly as Liam Fawcett made his AFL debut, but the visitors didn’t have the same desperation — from both ball-winning and pressure perspectives — on Saturday as they did in Round 1 against Carlton.
In the votes
Skipper Toby Nankervis was typically scrappy at the coalface, winning a match-high eight clearances to go with 39 hit-outs and 13 disposals. Jacob Hopper led the way ball-winning with 24 possessions and six clearances. Seth Campbell (two goals from five scoring shots and seven score involvements) and Harry Armstrong (2.2 and five marks from 12 disposals) were among the bright spots in Yze’s attack.
Room for improvement
In the first half alone, the Power kicked 8.7 (55) from stoppages, encapsulating the home side’s dominance around the Sherrin. And while Richmond was slightly better with its effort and intent in the second half, Port Adelaide still finished the match +180 for disposals — the highest disposal differential on record. “Adem Yze will be disappointed, but he knows where he is in this stage of the development,” Jonathan Brown said post-game on Fox Footy. “Saw some good things (from them) in the second half.”
