Title: Changes for the Suns game
Post by: Simonator on April 14, 2025, 10:40:00 AM
Id make quite a few changes, but one that just has to be made imo is dropping Miller.. we have Balta ready to go and Gray playing really good footy in the VFL. Its a shame they gave Miller no. 12. I'd also drop Short but we all know that wont happen. Also not a fan of this make-shift ruck/fwd role for blight, he tries, but just isnt up to it imo and to be fair to him, he has trained in the backline his whole time at the tiges.

In: Lalor, Balta, Alger
Out: Sonsie, Miller, Bauer (give him a couple full games in the vfl)

Dow should be dropped with Sonsie played in his spot and given at least half the chances Dow's been given to prove he's crap. :shh

I think the benefit of bringing all of the young talent in through the draft is that we are able to keep turning over the 22 this year to see who is prepared to stand up for 100 minutes. Have to say, and as a fan of his, than Jack Ross has disappointed me a little since round 1. I like Miller and felt sorry for him as the pressure up field was laughable at times - one of Treacy’s goals was a poor tackle technique from Hopper / but I understand if people want to drop him.

You have to ask the question who is to blame for the 16 inside 50 marks for Freo - the defence or the midfield pressure?
Equally, why are Freo able to lay 30% more tackles than us?

The issue of pressure - both real and perceived are the real questions that first must get asked of the coaching direction and then of the players not delivering to instructions if that’s the problem.

To underline my point, we laid 76 tackles against the Blues and just 40 yesterday.

Not enough pointing on the senior group alot of them way below standard struggling with basics. It's a massive issue the kids can't do it all.

We get a lot better when Dion and Smillie come in for Dow and probably KMac.

I'd swap Miller and Blight roles. Miller is alright in the ruck and has good foot skills for a big man I'd get him up the ground.

Team Tips:

Focus will again be directed at whether or not Richmond opts to select defender Noah Balta, whose court date is just a week away. The Tigers stressed that their choice not to play Balta against Fremantle was a ‘purely football decision’, with the key-position stopper subsequently lining up against the nation’s best under-18 players in a practice match at RSEA Park last Sunday. The question will again be asked in the lead-up to this week’s selection, with key defender Ben Miller providing little resistance as Dockers star Josh Treacy did whatever he wanted at the Barossa en route to six goals, while Jacob Blight continues to play a swingman role.

Spearhead Tom Lynch was subbed out ‘managed’ but appeared proppy all afternoon, with Jacob Bauer coming on after starting as the sub. If Lynch misses against Gold Coast, Bauer could slot back into the starting 22, with Harry Armstrong (hamstring) set for a lengthy stint out of action.

Key forward Jonty Faull was competitive in a tough start to his AFL career, with Samson Ryan, Liam Fawcett and Tom Sims waiting in the wings for forward-half opportunity in the seniors.

No.1 pick Sam Lalor (hip) has been labelled a test as he plots a recall after missing against Fremantle.

In the Mix - Round 6

It remains to be seen what Richmond does with Noah Balta, who made his return to football via a VFL exhibition match against the under-18 AFL Academy. Lalor is a chance to return after a week off. Clarke is within touching distance of a VFL return, while Lefau and Young have return timelines for the first time. Liam Fawcett kicked three in the VFL on return from concussion and a broken nose, but only a handful of AFL-listed players featured.
