‘There have been discrepancies’: Geelong ‘expecting’ sanction over third-party player payments

Expected fines for cap cheating.
What a stuffing joke.
Dead set cheats and they should lose that last flag of theirs.

This is just typical, not only of Geelong but of the AFL itself! Fines mean guilt! Failure to declare payments is cheating the system!
As a former bank employee I was expected to recognize that one number is bigger than it should be, that its over the limit - that when people write cheques that over-draw their account we are expected to 'bounce' those cheques. Its not our problem, its the client's problem! Its really quite simple, black & white with no wriggle room.
Fining the club is only the beginning, taking something away from them to balance the books is the next step. When their salary cap is clipped will they still be able to field the same team?
My inner skeptic expects the AFL to accept Geelong's rubbery accounting. Pay the fine & it will all go away ... ::)

Carltank lost draft picks in the early 2000's for their salary cap breach, how come geelong aren't punished the same?? :thumbsdown

My understanding is that so far the investigation hasn't shown any serious breach of total player payments.
They've looked into Scott's two other jobs aside from being a head coach and those two appear to get through the loopholes fine. I'm not happy about this and think it should be illegal.
Otherwise there was an AFLW player who got a lease car that the AFL wasn't notified about which isn't a big deal IMO.

If they've cheated either the TPP or soft cap, sure. Plus draft penalties.
Particularly the TPP.
I think the multiple jobs that Scott has is an abuse of the loopholes and shouldn't be allowed. All the full time coach and player wages are sufficient and I don't think it's reasonable that any company pay significant funding to a player or coach for taking a photo here and there a la Judd/VISY.

And Spud Frawley and our players with their deals with Casey
It’s a tale as old as time
If anyone thinks every club isn’t doing shady poo, they’re in dreamland
I guess it’s just a question of what levels .. with Geelong its concerns of farms and other things players are supposedly receiving

Yep probably. I'm sure Puma paid Dusty lots.
I want all contracts public knowledge like in the USA and all 3rd party payments as well. The AFL should know that if Chris Scott is paid $100,000/year as the 'director' of 5G Networks but does about 30mins work/year that it's a rort, for example, and just include that money in the soft cap.
Remind of me of Eddie McGuire giving out jobs at CH9 to WAGs to sweeten deals, trying to purchase premierships under the table.

Imagine whatabouting & seriously comparing the incompetent rabble under Casey from 20 years ago that resulted in no success to the continuing systematic decades long rorts & corruption at Geelong that's handed them 4 flags (and that's not even counting the other stuff that went on when Robinson & Dank were there under a junkie coach.) :shh
