-
Rioli starting in the guts.
ps. Commentator doesn't have his mic on. Barely hear him.
-
These umps :facepalm. Run down tackle = no free ::).
-
Nice gather by Clarke and slots it home :gotigers.
6 - 0
5 min Q1
-
Messy but good forward pressure leads to Bauer snapping the goal :gotigers.
Rich 2.0-12
GWS 0.0-0

-
Twice Tiger defenders don't keep their feet and GWS get their first :facepalm.
13 - 6
-
:banghead
-
Noah is certainly barking instructions :clapping
-
This bombing it inside 50 isn't working (esp. when Samson spoils his own teammate).
However, Bauer gets a free off the ball 35m out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 3.1-19
GWS 1.0-6
15 min Q1
-
Lucky again. Blind handball to Fawcett who wasn't expecting it. Raso however gathers and gets pushed in the back. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 4.1-25
GWS 1.0-6
17 min Q1

That was our best play off HB. Sadly Fawcett misses a sitter on the run. Yassine to Lefau who sets up Fawcett goal side but he tries to curl it through rather than just run in a straight line at goal.
GWS go coast-to-coast. A costly 11 point turnaround :banghead.
26 - 12
-
Finally, the commentator has his mic on. However, now there's no game sound. Cameraman is lost too.
:wallywink
-
Can Samson actually hold onto a mark? The problem with him is he hasn't developed from 3 years ago.
-
We just love giving up junk time goals :help
-
Rebound off our HF line and goal to the Giants after the siren :banghead.
Quarter time
Richmond 4.3-27
GWS 3.1-19
Goals: Bauer 2, Clarke, Raso.
-
The problem is our forward line.
- Long high bombs inside 50.
- Talls who drop sitters against smaller opponents.
- Hero chasing smalls who run past goal side of the contest rather than getting defensively front and square. This continually allows the opposition to waltz out the front on the rebound and score cheapy goals at the other end.
Bloody schoolboy stuff :banghead
-
Lucky again. The initial kick inside 50 went straight to a Giants defender when Fawcett was free. Bad turnover by GWS in defence and Clarke runs into an open goal :gotigers
Rich 5.3-33
GWS 3.1-19

Ball-up 20 out. Bad positioning by GWS allows Maurice to waltz out the front and goal :gotigers

Finally find a mark inside 50. Collier 55m out puts it up to the hot spot and Lefau is the one to take a chest mark 20 out. However, hits the post :P.
40 - 19
-
The last 3 mins was let's stuff up every play and gift the Giants the ball :banghead.
Goal to them. Again a Tiger defender (Kosi) loses his feet) :scream.
40 - 25
-
Again not pretty but good forward pressure gets the Giants to cough up the ball and Trezise goals on the run from 40 out :gotigers.
Rich 7.5-47
GWS 4.1-25

-
OMG Samson actually held onto a mark inside 50 :lol

And Samson goals :gotigers
Nice rebound by Clarke off HB to Raso on the wing who gets past two opponents and kicks inside 50 where Samson marked.

Just a useless bit to trivia
My godmothers grandson is playing for the Giants, he's on their Rookie list. Kicked their last goal.
-
Samson in D50 spoils his teammate/drops the mark and the Giants kick a goal :facepalm
54 - 33
A meek start after half-time. Haven't got past the centre.

Bauer makes up for a silly error with a great smother.
Clarke's snap misses.

50 against El Nour gifts the Giants the goal.

Not switched on this quarter.

Alger and Maurice did well on the wing. Lefau snaps blind at goal when he had more time and it rolls through for a behind.

Don't kick it to Samson. He can't mark it :P.

Apart from Maurice's goal that quarter was rubbish from us especially at stoppage/contest and defensively.
-
Getting smashed at stoppage this quarter. Their ruckman is owning OHB & Samson.
Ryan is a pussy.
It's embarrassing to the gender that he gets pushed around so easily at his size.
-
That quarter was ridiculously long - not the first time it's happened this year in the VFL either and it's usually when our opponents are deep in attack and chasing down our lead. :shh

Blight is a level above VFL quite clearly. Young belongs in the VFL.
Plenty of guys showing they're worth a game. Lefau's physicality would be great in the 1sts.

Won it in the second quarter. Better team in the first half. However, that second half was ordinary. In the end we did what we had to do.
Rioli in the midfield, Blight and Clarke the best 3 of the AFL-listers.
Disappointing games from many of our talls in the ruck and forward of the ball.

Alger still a ways off , Fawcett cement hands ngtmi :shh

Fawcett needs to start taking marks if wants to be an AFL player. :shh
Actually at the ground really felt for him. He's trying so bloody hard (perhaps too hard) and just can't clunk them.
Personally think he'll be fine

Got the Lynch lynching.

VFL Tigers tame Giants in enemy territory
By Connor Burns
RFC website
31 May 2025
After starting on fire, the Richmond VFL squad withstood a GWS Giants comeback to run out comfortable 12-point winners on Saturday.
It was the Tigers who started well through Judson Clarke and Jacob Bauer, as they kicked goals within the first 10 minutes of the game, giving Richmond just the start it needed.
Livewire forward Bauer, who hasn’t been at his goalkicking best in recent weeks, announced his return to form with a second goal for the game midway through the first quarter.
Massimo Raso then pushed the lead out further for the Tigers, before Billy McGee Galimberti answered back for the Giants on the stroke of quarter-time to keep his side within touching distance.
The Tigers went into quarter-time with a slender eight-point lead, before being clinical coming out of the first break. They kicked four goals for the term, playing with attacking flare, while restricting a dangerous GWS attack to just one. That gave them a handy 28-point half-time advantage.
The Giants needed a response out of the main break, and they found one through goals to Nathan Wardius and youngster James Peake, as GWS hit back hard.
But like they have done in previous weeks, the Tigers responded to the challenge with Bauer kicking his third, followed by Maurice Rioli who kicked his second goal to steady the side.
Both teams continued to be efficient from their inside-50s, in a free-flowing and entertaining contest with Richmond holding steady to maintain a healthy 20-point lead with one quarter to play.
The last quarter was more of an arm-wrestle in the early stages as the Giants hung on for dear life, while the Tigers searched for a knockout blow.
After several missed opportunities for the Tigers, Conor Stone made them pay with a beautiful set shot to bring the margin back to 16 points. Richmond then responded with a classic small forward’s goal from Mohammed Yassine, as he got the crumbs and snapped a beauty off his left foot.
Just when it looked like Richmond had done enough to win, Harry Rowston and young gun Jack Ough kicked goals to bring the margin back to just 12 points with minutes left. However, the Tigers held on for a tight victory.
The injection of Rioli into the midfield paid dividends as he provided spark and speed, finishing off with 25 disposals and two goals. Clarke also continued to go from strength-to-strength (27 disposals and two goals), after returning in recent weeks from an ACL injury.
Richmond 4.3 8.6 11.10 13.14 (92)
GWS 3.1 4.2 8.8 12.8 (80)
Goals: Bauer 3, Rioli 2, Raso 2, Clarke 2, Yassine, Trezise, Scott, Ryan

Just bought this up because we did not play one genuine AFL listed mid in this game.
While it was good to see them try Rioli as a mid and they probably need to persevere with that move if he is to survive. It was probably forced on them to do so.
It just high lights the lack of mid numbers on the list..
Question can Rioli play as a mid at afl level regards motor.

IMHO, no he doesn't but does have the motor for bursts in the middle. I've always been surprised that they haven't tried it more often
-
A bit like Kosi Pickett from the Dees perhaps
-
Yze and the coaches need to start doing this because I’ve seen very little of it. They seem to just have a core group of mids that they run through there during a game. Even last season where we had the likes of baker, dusty and especially bolts that got very limited opportunity to run through there.
Agree with the above sentiment. Can Rioli make it at AFL level, evidence to date suggests not, but it must be the hardest job in footy to be stuck in our fwd line and go long stints without touching the footy.
Same thing applies for Lalor. Looks dynamite when he gets a run on ball, but the opportunities have been so limited.
