Richmond v Adelaide Preview
Andrew Slevison
SEN
26 June 2025
The lowest scoring team and second worst defensively versus the third highest scoring team and second best defensively.
The second lowest percentage versus the highest. That is a recipe for disaster.
Richmond copped an almighty 79-point smacking at the hands of the Western Bulldogs last weekend and it gets no easier here as they host Adelaide, who are fresh off a bye.
At the Adelaide Oval in Round 13 last year, the Tigers knocked off the Crows by eight points. Since then, Adem Yze’s rebuilding side has won just three of 24 while Matthew Nicks has guided the Crows to 13 wins from 24, but more importantly a 9-5 top-four record in 2025.
The last time the Crows were in action they were rolled over by Hawthorn in a low-scoring Launceston eyesore, but expect them to unleash the shackles at the ‘G on Sunday.
While the Tigers have won the last two over the Crows, it’s hard to tip them here given the class gulf between the two sides.
Adelaide’s attacking arsenal of Riley Thilthorpe, Darcy Fogarty, Taylor Walker, Josh Rachele and Ben Keays have all kicked 20-plus goals so far this campaign. The Tigers have only Seth Campbell who has hit that marker.
Yze will be expecting an improved defensive performance after conceding 21 goals to the Dogs. Increased pressure around the contest could help the Tigers make a game of it early but the Crows should eventually find their scoring mojo.
Prediction: Adelaide by 45 points.

From Barrett's Sliding Doors column:
IF ...
Richmond led GWS by 28 points at three-quarter time, before losing by three points in round 12 ...
THEN ...
its next two matches were dreadful, before and after their bye, against Sydney and Western Bulldogs. The tidal wave has hit it. And there are a few more on the way, another one on in the form of the Adelaide Crows looming on Sunday.

Tigers ready for challenging Crows
By Henry Milic

Richmond coach Adem Yze is hopeful his young Tigers side can deliver a positive performance against the fourth-placed Adelaide Crows this Sunday.
Adelaide has one of the AFL's most potent and high-scoring attacks, but Yze explained how there's more to the Crows than just attacking flair.
“I think most teams in the top four are good at scoring, but within that is the contest,” Yze said.
“They are top four in most of the metrics that we want to be good at, around contest, clearance and post clearance possession.
“They are going to test us in different ways, but we understand what’s coming.
“They are coming off a bye, so hopefully we can put on a really good show, and more importantly, play the way I know we can play.”
Richmond’s young group has shown glimpses of brilliance this season, however, Yze said the test lies in putting it all together for four quarters of football.
“We might have fluctuation from week to week, but what we are trying to do is make sure that we don’t have those from quarter to quarter," Yze said.
“We have worked on that and reviewed it, not only the technical and the tactical, but what (it does) to us mentally.
“When we do lose momentum, how can we minimise it? We have worked on it now, hopefully we can go and implement it.”
The Tigers have won four of the past five match-ups against the Crows and Yze is looking forward to the strong support the Tiger Army is sure to provide on Sunday at the 'G.
“The Tiger Army have come out in numbers throughout the season for us and I hope they are as excited as we are for our younger players,” Yze said.
“Throughout this whole journey, we are always going to look for green shoots and the growth of our younger players.
"This week will be no different. We will have some younger players playing on some really talented players and an opportunity to play against a top-four team at our ground, and we can’t wait to test ourselves against them.”

-
Putrid simple skill execution by young players and leaders alike. No excuses for that. Embarrassing
-
Hard to watch. Jasper getting in good positioning and got a few nice touches.
-
Quarter time
Richmond 0.1-1
Adelaide 2.5-17
Lucky not to be six goals down already :help. Only saved by the Crows inaccuracy.
Can't hit a target to save ourselves generally but total and utter disconnect between our mids and forwards. How about our forwards actually be proactive and move? How can you not have a forward leading up at the ballcarrier or not attacking the hot spot? How many uncontested marks are we going to give their defenders with not a forward in sight? :banghead
-
A Crows error and a lucky bounce out of nothing was the only way were going to score a goal.
7 - 23
-
Nice goal Banksy :gotigers.
We actually got a chain of possession going.
14 - 29
-
Can we fumble anymore loose ground balls? ::) :banghead
-
Simple handballs are going to the feet of teammates more often than not. Unbelievable
-
So many dropped marks our skill level is the poorest I’ve ever seen. Major list overhaul still needed
-
Fumble, fumble, dropped mark, fumble, dropped mark :banghead
The skill level is deplorable. Auskick level :banghead.
-
Lefau off. Sounds like an issue with his knee :(. Likely to be subbed off for Kmac.
-
Lefau off. Sounds like an issue with his knee :(. Likely to be subbed off for Kmac.
Update. Thankfully not the knee. It's a calf issue.
-
Blight showing why he isn’t afl quality.
Hard to watch this poo
-
So many fumbles
-
Adelaide are just feeding off us. Woeful to allow them to go the length of the ground so easily.
-
What kind of leader is lynch ? stuffing dumbass
-
We deserve to give up a last second goal for our own ineptness :banghead. Once again fumbling and running over a loose ball :banghead. Schoolboy stuff! :banghead
-
Another game, another smashing in the midfield. Centre bounce of any combination of Ross Taranto hopper and Prestia is just laughable.
-
Half-time
Richmond 0.1 2.2-14
Adelaide 2.5 8.7-55
Goals: Ralphsmith, Banks.
Pathetic! Not sure what is worse? The U12s level skills or the crap attitude we've displayed from the start aside from the period early in the second quarter.
-

Surely Ross gone at the end of the year. Dow too IMO. Prestia retire .
Should try to only have one of Hop and Taz in there at any time in '26. Need some pace and skill.
-
Can’t stand to watch hoppers absolutely useless disposal
-
Finally something bright to talk about. First goal for Trainor :clapping.
-
Can’t stand to watch hoppers absolutely useless disposal
Sums up our pathetic skill level. Hopper butchers a pass to an open Lynch on the lead who finally gets free of his opponent and the Crows then run it down the other end for an easy goal :banghead.
-
It's one thing to be beaten by a better opponent, but it's another to dish up such a pee poor collective attitude and U12s skills. Continually fumbling, dropping marks, ballwatching & giving up on contests, etc.
Sorry, this is by far the worst we've played under Yze. It's embarrassingly bad! >:(
-
Can’t stand to watch hoppers absolutely useless disposal
At least he doesn’t poo himself like a certain forum favourite
So far that certain somebody, whom you and Gregory Focker cheerlead for , has 5 disposals and 6 “shirk the contest” .. and I’m being kind
-
Tough shot. Nice kick Seth :clapping.
26 - 78

Focker :lol
You summoned super seth
-
Last two inside 50s we had free Tigers and we chip it to the Crow defender :banghead.
-
OMG we kicked two in a row. Comeback on :snidegrin.
32 - 79
-
Leading goal kicker and only bloke who can kick inside 50. :lol
-
30 secs to go and you spoil the ball back into the middle of the D50 corridor where the opposition have free players :facepalm. Again schoolboy errors :banghead.
-
Leading goal kicker and only bloke who can kick inside 50. :lol
was the kick prior deliberately high so that Mansell could drive the knees in.
Goals, setting up goals and enabling opposition injuries. His leg does it all
-
3/4 time
Richmond 0.1 2.2 5.2-32
Adelaide 2.5 8.7 12.13-85
Goals: Lynch, Campbell, Ralphsmith, Banks, Trainor.
This amateur crap from us is painful to watch :help.
-
How much of this garbage comes down to coaching structure, positioning, game plan etc. and how much do we blame the players for poor attitude and useless skills?
-
The skills today are school boy quality.
I've never seen a team miss so many handball targets.
-
Not sure how Sonsie doesn't make the distance from 40 on the run?
But it enables Alger to kick his first goal :clapping.
39 - 91
-
Green and mansell haven’t done anything for weeks. Time to drop them
-
More fumbling (Hugo), then the free and & 50 (Green), then no one putting pressure on the goalshooter running at goal inside our D50.
Seriously, schoolboy crap! :banghead
-
Mansell goal.
45 - 97
-
Is this game enough evidence that Blight isn’t afl level? Along with pretty much our whole
Team to be fair
-
Another goal to Adelaide after they feed off another loose ball fumble by us (Green this time).
I'd love to know how many fumbles we've had today. Must be close to 100 :help.
-

Team to be fair
Yes.
-
Alger kicks his 2nd :gotigers. A rare positive today.
52 - 110
-
Let's just have 3 Tigers either ballwatch or not watch the hips as Curtain waltzes through them untouched :facepalm.
-
We've given up 9 goals from turnovers in our back half :help.
12 goals all up from turnovers :help.
-
Mansell
Green
Blight
Sonsie
Ralph smith
All not afl players
Midfield smashed again. Hopper Taranto Prestia Ross are a horrible combination. Worst midfield in the comp easily. Embarrassing
-
Final Score
Richmond 0.1 2.2 5.2 8.6-54
Adelaide 2.5 8.7 12.13 18.14-122
Goals: Alger 2, Lynch, Campbell, Ralphsmith, Banks, Trainor, Mansell.
Eek! Should change our name to the fumblers :damnpc
-
Midfield needs some pace urgently.
-
Our percentage is now the worst in the AFL at 64.8%.
-
Desperately need an injection of class. Hopefully Lalor back this week.
